    As Marlon says below this is like the Witnesses . My husband was raised in that cult. When I met him, I knew something was off. We were in a KFC and he had a total melt down.He did not know how to order. I got the story of his childhood and knew he needed some serious help. So I helped. Thirty years later He is mostly good but some of his siblings are not.

    Charles H Spurgeon “Plymouth Brethren have no feeling wherever their principles are concerned. I know indeed of no sect or denomination so utterly devoid of kindness of heart. It is the most selfish religious system with which I am acquainted. It is entirely wrapped up in itself”. Charles H Spurgeon “The Darby Brethren” June 1869

      I have personally dealt with the cutting edge that shed my emotional blood indifferently & repeatedly, from an ex exclusive brethren, who is a product of, and has been conditioned by this religion/cult. Emotional cruelty was second nature at times. I now realize, from research etc, what could drive a person to be so calculated and cruel, while actually thinking/believing they were being a decent person... They are taught to believe that everyone outside the religion is bad & will take advantage of them. In my experience the exact opposite was the case. I think women in society in general are more at risk from guys coming out of this religion, than the guys are from the society they have been told is uncaring and bad!! Of course every person is different, but the conflict of the utter arrogance and self entitlement (which is likely to be a learned thing in that very male dominated religion) when he clearly thought/believed he was being a decent person, versus the better side of the guy was stunning to behold. Cruel. There needs to be more awareness of the impact of this religion on people. Both the ones suffering it by having to leave behind family etc (another example of cruelty) & tackle their conditioning, and the ones who are interacting with them once they leave. Love and healing to all.

    It is a huge dilemma for many religions who want to keep themselves untainted by the world. If someone leaves and keeps contact that can mean the influences of the outside are brought in. I certainly don't agree with how they do it, nor how many other groups from the Amish to the FLDS and others do it but I can understand it.

      Hi. If you don't mind me asking, are you UK based? I come from an "open" brethren background, which was thankfully significantly different to the more exclusive aspect of "brethrenism", and I read about the scandal in the 70's. An acquaintance of mine (who I have not been in contact with for a good while now) wrote a history of the brethren which covered this. Have you recorded a testimony of what life was like growing up in the exclusives? I had meetings with the exclusives at one stage in my younger days, and they made it clear that if I joined I would be well looked after, BUT, I would of course have to separate from family and friends! I declined. In one house I saw pictures of Darby and others (Taylor maybe, Raven, etc) on the wall; sad that the movement under Darby and Co, though not perfect, was biblically Christian, and some of it's splinter groups descended into absurd and wicked extremes of separation.

    I went to primary school with 2 brethren, a girl and boy (not related) in the early 2000s. Then once they were intermediate age they had to go to their own brethren school. I think they were open brethren. I always felt sorry for them because when we watched a video or movie they had to leave for another room. Or when we had jump jam or any activity involving music they weren't allowed to listen to the music or participate.

      There are many Brethren I know and they all own computers, have regular jobs, own TVs etc But there is one extreme group in my area that keeps to itself called the Raven Brethren and they hold doctrines foreign to others. Most are like the local Baptists and not extreme. The problem is that the Brethren movement has many little groups under its umbrella some of these have taken the name without any relationship to the original movement and others are schisms of schisms and their beliefs and approaches are highly varied among them. What is being described in this video is not universal to the whole so-called Brethren movement.

      Be expected to leave your family forever though. Exclusive brethrenism is a perverse offshoot of the early to mid 1800's movement under Darby and company. There are proper "brethren" churches which have a much healthier and biblical stance on issues of separation and fellowship.

Like the love of money being the root of all evil. And not being able to serve two masters. And that pastors/leaders are not meant to be given to drink... And the truth will set us free etc etc. If they're so free, why are they caged off from the rest of the world, and behave more wordly according to scriptural interpretation, than a lot of people I know! You are very much wrong. PB started since 1825 when Edward Cronin and Edward Wilson's family gathered together at Wilson's house, breaking the Bread for the Lord Supper for the first time. Then they moved to Fitzwilliam's Square 9 as the number of the people increased, Lord Congleton and Hutchinson, Henry Groves, Bellet joined there and moved to Aungier Street again. Thereafter John Nelson Darby Joined in late 1827. Darby wasn't famous so much until the split in 1848 between Open Brethren and Closed Brethren.

    • @sheilanixon913
      @sheilanixon913 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they started in 1848, and quickly divided into 2 groups 1) The Open Brethren led by George Muller and Anthony Norris Groves, based in Bristol The Open Group meet up with Christians from other churches and 2) The Exclusive Brethren Christian Church or Kelly Brethren or London Brethren first led by J>N>Darby and A.J. Cronin based in Plymouth.They have a Great Leader --The Elect Vessel -Bruce Hales , who is based in Melbourne This group do not meet up with other Christians , not even their fellow brethren in the Open Brethren although their teachings are similar
      I was engaged to someone from the Exclusives in 1857 , but we split up when Jim Taylor said that we had to separate from our relatives who were not in the Brethren.Most of my family were Evangelical Low Church Anglicans , and I loved them so much that I broke off our engagement. Many Exclusives from the London area including some politicians eg Anthony Crosland , and a leading Historian A.J.P.Taylor all left in 1961 and 1962 , My best friend from school decided to stay "in" when we left and I have n ever seen her since 1957. Just FYI, not all Brethren are related, or like this! We in the Church of the Brethren believe in no force in religion, that we must be in the world in order to shine a light on Christ in the world, and are not exclusive like this.....so please be careful in just saying Brethren..ty

      My thoughts exactly, although I think they have an Ephesus age spirit and need an evangelical spirit to keep humble, prepare their children via interaction with the local population as well as fulfilling the most important of all great commission. When a church becomes a duty and not a mission it’s lost its vision. The lord sent a sword upon the earth the sword of the spirit which divides sin and convicts it to the cross where it belongs. The church doesn’t need to evolve into a secret society time capsule. It needs to adapt but stay true to the word, set boundaries with children, don’t abuse them and tell them the truth about sin and they won’t want any part of it.
