    Thank you so much guys. That was FUN. Thanks for letting me tag along.
    I was a lineman for Clay Lacy in Vannuys and got to go on a check ride in a Lear 35, the chief pilot knew I was interested in being a pilot so, at Bakersfield he looked back and said, Kesler - take right seat.
    Thrill of my life, I got to do a radar vector approach around back into Bakersfield. On climb he showed me the sweet spot power setting where the aircraft got happy instead of full stress on the airframe. It's a nice nuetral midweight control yoke, finger touch.
    Man was it a rush approaching at 160 ->134, things happen really quickly; its a 2 pilot craft for good reason.
    If you guy's ever need an extra set of great eyes (20/10) for a ride, I'm here in Herriman and drive past south center every day.

      BTW, I absolutely LOVED your winterish video climbing right over farnsworth peak, as my great grandfather's peak ( Kesler peak) just north of it was stunning to see on that majestic flight.
      You guys do know how truly blessed you are don't you? I get so thrilled just watching your amazing videos. Stunning.

      I got to train with Condor squadron NA AT-6 in Van Nuys which are very solid massively heavy not a stitch of comfort trainers. Quite the opposite of the Lear. Heavy Metal, full kick right foot aircraft (tank like).

    I enjoy watching your adventures a lot. Something about those old Czech jets makes me a little nervous though. At 71 I'm a little less adventuress than I used to be. Something about a PT6 in front is reassuring to me. LOL Great job there!! 8) --gary

    • @gtr1952
      @gtr1952 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BigDickMark Well Doc, I hear ya. I'll give you a 1/2 point for that. Mike's Lancair Legacy is a (highly) modified experimental plane. Not subject to the strict rules/regs of a certified plane. The PT6 he had was a "used" one, and one of 2 from a Beech King Air, that were replaced. He got no log books, time and condition were unknown. I don't know why I'm defending them, there are 1000's of them out there flying every day. TBM's, Pilatus PC12, King Air, on and on. Aero L-39 Albatros, not so much.
      BTW, Mike also put himself in a bad situation. A Holiday Inn for the night might have been a better plan. --gary

      @@Troy707 just seems strange it would be that contained in 400km/h air. And there was no water on the plane. Nah I think it's a 360 degree software stitch issue.

      @@davidduganne5939 pretty sure it's a stitch effect because it's a 360 camera and it's on the border of the two 180 degree cameras. It can't be a material fluctuation and it can't be water. Just a strange software artifact.

    You DO know that mines blast large salvos of explosives to loosen the minerals?

    • @igclapp
      @igclapp 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The mines notify the FAA before they do any blasting and the FAA puts a TFR over the area to keep planes away.

    just curious.. arent you supposed to wait for the previous aircraft to depart the runway, or take back off, before taking the runway behind them?

    • @ocscmike

      No. Lining up and waiting for the runway to be clear is pretty standard practice. 💪

  • @speedbrake
    @speedbrake ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting - when I did SFO training in the L-39 we used 70% throttle, speed brakes out to simulate the glide profile of the L-39 with no engine. My understanding was that's from the original POH, but I haven't read the original myself.

    • @mattguthmiller
      @mattguthmiller  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Basically there’s two camps - one to do it that way, one with throttle at idle. 70%/speed brakes at 140 KIAS better simulates zero thrust but not at other speeds, whereas idle better simulates the drag available if you’re off speed. So we do them both ways. Ultimately you just gotta be able to figure out how to get to the runway.
