There is so much music out there on youtube , that it can be overwhelming. So, when I want to listen to some classical guitar, it is either Julian Bream, or Jennifer Kim. Totally satisfying. What I love about her playing, particularly in slower pieces, is the sense of real tranquility she brings to the music. It is never rushed, and she gives the music the natural pacing that it requires. Then, in faster pieces such as in the last movement of this Barrios work, her virtuosity is just astounding.
No metronome, No robot, Expressive. Yes !! Congratulations, Jennifer ! Many contemporaries of Agustin Barrios have affirmed that this is how he interpreted it in his concerts. Only for the recording it seems that he did not agree to divide it into two sections, side A and side B of the album, and that is why he executed it (never better said) so quickly. Nowadays, almost all the guitarists on the planet play it like this. That I only know Jorge Cardoso and the undersigned we interpret it without metronome, just like the fantastic Miss Kim, whom I wish a long and fortunate future in music.
Fantastic! Amazingly fast and precise. I’ve been playing twenty years and still can’t believe things like this are real. To get through the whole piece without a missed note. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this.
She mildly flubbed I think 4 notes. Nothing missed, but a few imperfect. LH errors, not RH. It's like when you're an Asian and your Asian parents are like "why did you get 99.8%? not 100%????". Her personality shone through and the notes she missed didn't matter. I got goosebumps!
@@eschelar Yeah, no one likes perfectionists and great art is not a question of perfection, but of expression of beauty and emotion! You got that wrong in Asia for sure! Still, you also produce so many talented young artists on almost all classical instruments now, that the few creating art over perfectionism really are among the elite in the world.
Its perplexing that somewhere someone would find fault with this masterful rendition. I wish they would share their view and what the majority of us are missing.
She is an amazing talent for the future of classical guitar. Her tremolo technique is without equal. (see other youtube posts) She always has great musicality and emotion in her works. This is so good for the art to have this modern talent driving it forward.
I meet Manuel many years ago, a Master Luthier and one of the most passionate, kind person I ever meet in Winter Springs FL. He let me play one of his guitar made in 1965, exquisite voicing and tone.
Amazing piece, even more so performance was flawless, mesmerizing, soul touching... This one of rare moments when I think how cool it would be to just program your brain to play guitar at this level (Matrix). :))
yesssssssssssss.....yessssssssssssssss......i felt the melody and the feelings completely in my heart. i wish you health and much more success. I was very impressed with the last part of the melody.....so hot and so live....!
Me encanta como interpretas la catedral de Barrios, claridad, dulzura y sensibilidad en la ejecución.tienes un excelente toque en la guitarra ,que proyectas lo que sientes.felicitaciones.
In the Allegro you achieve some faster passages than some of the best classical guitarists on the planet. I've been clocking people. Kinda Nerdy, but when you listen to the original by Barrios he plays the whole Allegro through in 2:21. It simply takes flight to my ears and so I was curious. For reference Williams takes a ponderous 3:04 and 3:15 in two different takes. Berta Rojas comes close but is playing more softly than you and everyone is playing less staccato than Barrios. Nobody picks the single string runs on the low notes, they all use hammer ons. Barrios does as far as I can tell! Barrios was a monster. You come closest to getting the same urgency that is kind of the heart of the Allegro. Congrats! People below crit. your tone in the beginning. They're wrong. Your high strings in the very beginning sound like a peak of some sadness and contrast strongly with the accompaniment. Perfect!
Jennifer - This is a wonderful interpretation. Especially the Allegro Solemn, which has a very nice balance between the the Bass Line and Treble Line. It's wonderfully clean, with just the right amount of Rubato. You haven't lost the melancholy, despite not having unnecessarily loud bass lines like many other interpretations. For the 1st movement, the sound for the E string sounds a little curt, but that could just be the strings. You have a wonderful future ahead! Bravo!
