For people who worried about the fuel consumption, know that the Patrol is a much larger car than the Land Cruiser (naturally larger and heavier consumes more fuel) plus it's almost $40k savings (when you factored in driveaway costs), that buys you 3 lifetime of petrol supplies.
So what you do as I have done is buy a good patrol 2nd hand. That way you address both issues - avoid the initial depreciation smack and benefit from incredible value. Land Cruiser I would buy if I went new. Patrol is such a buy 2nd hand.
@@koffeeblack Have you checked the market? The sale price of used Patrol vs Land Cruiser is relative to the price the seller paid when brand new. This is the part people don't understand, they look at used market price for both and Patrol is lower but novice like you will think this is because it depreciates more but in reality Patrol was already $40k cheaper retail 😂
@@micahfodor8433 It's a much larger car overall not in dimension (you can only go so big in dimension for road compliant) but the overall volume and mass. It's a taller car, bigger boot, bigger interior, bigger seats, bigger wheels, bigger engine. As for the petrol figures, you obviously need to exclude the standard consumption usage (since both are still an ICE engine), I'm talking the difference in the price and the fuel consumption between 300 and Y62, which is circa 4-5L variance per 100KM. So at $1.8/L average petrol price per L, $40K will buy you 22,222L of fuel, that equates to 444,440KM of additional bridge range break even on the Land Cruiser 300 upfront cost.
Bought my Ti-L in June 2023 and its been amazing since. It looks like I have grown into this large car. It is a great vehicle to drive and is way better than any other 4X4's out there in the market. Particularly at a price point you get this for, it is a no brainer.
I am completely agree with you. Money talks. Patrol is 35k$ (or 35% of it's price) cheaper. And that has weight. Yes it is a little bit older especially when you look at the infotainment tech. But LC300 has a lack of space on 2nd row, smaller trunk and flimsy shaking hood, which seems to be made of foil. I have never been a Nissan's fan but price for LC is astronomical. Patrol Warrior on 35s would be the best choice in this segment, at least for me.
I'd go with the patrol also, way cheaper, way more space ,way better off road as well, don't need all that fancy gimmicky stuff but some people do and that's ok
For the vast price difference between the two the Nissan is the obvious choice and for those who want to take it off road the majority of its time then that money saved will buy you some great add ons and you still have the benefit of it being a more mechanical engine so a lot less to go wrong
@@WebpageisnotavailableNot sure we are talking about the same vehicle here. My 2018 Nissan Armada is a very dependable family vehicle. 6yrs now and no issues. The dealership I go to for oil 🛢 change highly speak to its reliability provided I follow the maintenance schedule. Your Armada may have poor maintenance history.
@@Drivecomauthe VK56 engine used in the Patrol WAS used as the basis of the engine powering the Nissan’s when that ran in V8 Supercars championship! The VK56VD version used in the current Patrol is definitely NOT “old-school” as you reported as it is 32-valve, quad-cam, direct fuel injected V8 with the VVEL system that provides for continuously variable valve-lift and timing which allows nearly flat torque delivery through-out rev range from low RPM and improves the fuel usage. Probably one of the most advanced engines today without resorting to any forced induction complexity. Plus, put on a 3” exhaust and the engine sounds glorious - much better better than a diesel v6 muted by turbos.
Goid review. I live in New Zealand so it basically covers us as well. I like how you said it comes down to personal preference which vehicle a person wants or likes. I personally would go the Nissan. I did hear the Nissan still uses the hydraulic power steering instead of electric which gives a better feed back while driving. Some of us 'older' generation still likes the less is more idea.
I’ve got an older Jeep running a 5.7 HEMI with cylinder deactivation. It’s a 5 speed auto. Driving 6000km from the west to east coast in 100% bog stock form - including continental road tyres - I averaged out at around 12.5l/100 from memory (not towing). The best I got was around 11.9 but that was around 85-90km/h. It was only me and some gear on the trip, prob around 300kg. Around town it’s a totally different story at around 19/20l per 100. I’d imagine the Patrol would be similar. It’s a 7 speed but a lot heavier and no cylinder deactivation. The big V8’s are at home on the open road and will punish your wallet elsewhere. The 300 will shine in either environment. Both vehicles are bullet proof, their reputation is legendary. If I were only using the vehicle for open road and towing I’d go the patrol. If it were a daily I’d go the 300🤘🤘
Great review and I think you've covered everything really well. From the outside, I think the Patrol looks newer and is the better looking vehicle. Inside is a different story but the antiquated look of the Patrol provides a feeling of warmth and familiarity. Besides, the technology in the Patrol is very mature which means the reliability hopefully is better as the bugs are ironed out.
I'm impressed with the production, this is a big step ahead, and the subject was worth it. I'd say, as I've been saying from the get go, that the Land Cruiser looks shockingly bad, is shockingly cramped, has stupid features like that vibrating hood, and is uselessly expensive. I'm pretty sure however the new powertrain, despite the worries it's generating, can't do worse than the previous 4.5 V8 TD. The Patrol on the other hand is probably the most majestic-looking car on the Australian roads (thank you for doing it justice with this white paint), has awesome capabilities, is spacious, comfortable, sits you truck-high, drives well and is a dream come true as far as a big comfortable all-capable SUV. Add to that the existence of the cheaper yet awesome TI Patrol and the more expensive but all-powerful Warrior version. What a legend.
@@Freedomtooffroad Because we have a big team, so Sam signs off with his name when he responds, Glenn signs off with his, Susannah with hers... it's so you know who answered your question. - Kez
Excellent comparison. In South Africa with fuel at about AU$2 per litre I could so about 300,000km to make up the difference in price. So I would choose the Patrol over the Cruiser. The only consideration here is that after 5 years the Cruiser would have a substantially better trade in value than the Patrol due to dealer support. So that would be a consideration for us here if trade in after 5-7 years is a requirement. Thanks for an interesting and detailed review.
If they were the same price you’d choose the Landcruiser every day as it’s more refined and has less fuel consumption, but with a 30k saving on the patrol and the patrol cloud like feel suspension, similar good off road performance, more spacious cabin with better visibility for the driver - the patrol start to look more attractive than the Landcruiser. I have the Landcruiser GR WHICH BY THE WAY COSTs Nearly 50k more than the patrol and the visibility is very poor, below my expectations from Toyota. My friends patrol has better driver visibility, cloud like suspension and the V8 petrol engine is smoother than my Landcruiser especially on road, and feels smoother. The petrol v8 sounds great better than my Landcruiser especially when you give it some. I do expect that my GR Landcruiser will be better off road as it’s got a fair bit better off road capability than the Sahara tested here on this show. GR Landcruiser and all Landcruiser in general look more modern inside and out I feel. Also Landcruiser should theoretically resale value better.
@@TheLordJT 30k I savings then where is resale value in savings? Besides LC sells better than patrol. So the argument remains that LC will win everyday.
I have driven the Patrol and the LC 300Turbo petrol .Patrol is my choice .It drives comforably and visibility is much better and handles like a smaller car .Love the Patrol .The Petrol LC uses as much petrol as the patrol .Diesel will be better but plenty more exapensive
The current generation of Armada is out more than 12 years ago, there are ton of Armada's in the USA (about 1 LC 200 to about 50 Armada's or more), and I am yet to see an Armada in a salvage yard due to any failure! Some have used 200K miles without any single hiccup! There is no need to pay more $$$ for a Land cruiser when Armada/patrol is around. By the way I have FOUR toyota 4x4's so yes, I love toyota's but Nissan Armada is equally capable.
Land cruiser is better value, it will hold it's value significantly better and is an actual modern vehicle in comparison, the Patrol feels like a 2010 car inside and out, the Patrol has a significantly better engine though.
Coming from a Prado the y62 for me is such a nice 4wd and on road it's damn good. Not going to do much off road stuff with the y62 so i don't need any mods for it(stock will do beach driving fine for fishing trips) On fuel usage i really don't know as of yet, my Y62 TI-L has done under 100kms haha but it doesn't worry me as i bought this car to replace 2 (sold both of my old cars) as its a mix of a V8 and a wagon and RWD / 4WD. It also doesn't have much tech in it which i love, no beeps and bongs going off like crazy to drive you nuts. Also i don't know why but i like the interior, i must be getting old(I'm in my early 40's) The biggest thing for me as well, like the LC200 the y62 has been all over Aus in all different conditions and it is reliable and i would argue the engine(was used in nascar) and drive train is the same level as Toyota. LC300 yet to prove it self and from what i hear i don't think it's going to be better than the LC200.
You guys need to do better testing prior to doing a review. The patrol will easily get down into the 11’s on open road cruising. 15’s would be with huge mods and a lot of weight. I get between 11 an 12L per 100 every time I go from Sydney to QLD, and I don’t baby it. Around town, yes you will see even up to 20 if you flog it from one set of lights to the next but this is all stop start driving, no highway or freeway added to it. The patrol will also leap from 0 too 100 in under 7 seconds, and kicks the cruisers backside up to 100 and beyond.
Can’t wait to pick up my 2023 TiL Y62 from the dealer next week, still have a non turbo GQ with almost 700k on the clock, a 4.2 TD GU with just under 500k on the clock, and looking forward to many great trips away with the new Patrol. Although I’ve spent another $20k on pre rego GVM upgrades and accessories to be able to tow my caravan legally I’m still $15k better off than spending $135k and still needing to do a GVM upgrade on a 300 as well to put me in the same position.
I like your honest opinion of the vehicles. I think it would be easier to live with the LC due to it being a bit smaller and it’s better fuel consumption, but in saying that the light coloured carpet would need extra covering to stay clean otherwise this part of the vehicle would be a pain to live with.
they make a black interior option which is the most sold version. For any serious use, you would add seat covers and floor mats anyway (both cars). Can confirm that around town and general family life, the LC300 is awesome and easy to live with. Can't comment on patrol as haven't driven one.
True, the LandCruiser feels a little easier to drive around the suburbs, and the newer technology helps. But I'd be giving the beige interior a wide berth. Actually, I would probably look closest at a GX or GXL ( if you need the third row), and would add in some quality aftermarket rubber mats.
The focus on the beige interior was a waste of time. The interior colour is an option not standard. The 13 year old Nissan interior on the other hand is not an option.
It is a excellent test drive. As for me, I think even Patrol Y62 with modern interior (for West Asia market) beats much more newer Land Cruiser in pretty every way. So can you even imagine how much better new Y63 will be? As far as we know now, it will come with three different drive trains: base model will get a modernised 4-cyl 2.3 turbo diesel Renault, then it will be followed by petrol 3.0 twin turbo V6 from current Nissan Z sports car and on the top of the range we will get a hybrid model, probably based on the same 3.0 twin turbo petrol V6 or on 4.0 petrol V6 - base engine for current Y62 in Middle East market. So, yes, it will drop a gorgeous 5.6 petrol V8, but Nissan can't make a magic - today's emissions standards, especially here in Europe are pretty strict.
Nissan Patrol my frien had one i think 66 model. It was awesome really strong and built like a MAC Truck. It rode like a Cadillac very comfortable on the freeway. It had a water proof ignition and a hand crank so if your battery went dead in the boonies you start the engine by hand cranking it.
This is the perfect opportunity for Nissan to bring the real Patrol to the USA market while Toyota is pulling out their larger Land Cruiser. Our Nissan is called the "Armada" and is dumbed down without the real off road goodies. If Nissan took out all the luxury crap and added in the off road goodies like locking diffs and marketed it as "the real Land Cruiser you can't get anymore", they'd sell like crazy. I have an Xterra with the limited slip rear and it's a beast. Would buy the Patrol version of the Armada instead of the chopped-down new USA land cruiser prado any day.
bruh who would get a TIL when you can buy a base model LC then use for 10yrs and sell for like 30-40% more price than TIL lol also Patrol Breaks everytime and original Nissan parts are way more expensive than Toyota parts
You make so interesting test drive, mr. Samuel, thank you. Can it be possible for you to get on test new Land Cruiser Sahara (or even GR), Nissan Patrol Warrior (or at least just TI spec with normal front bumper) and Land Rover Defender 130? It will be so interesting to see how do they compare. Thank you.
Good review Sam I agree though in terms of tech I’d have a land cruiser any day But $30000 is a lot of extra in monthly repayments Or buy a patrol and have more coin to buy extras 👍
Awesome review. Thank you. I am a Toyota fan. And will always buy one over a Nissan. Loved the way you presented and gave a detailed non biased opinion. Please put more reviews out there. 😊.
We own a series 5 y62 for towing our caravan , when we made our decision it was due to cost and availability at the time. We have spent a significant amount of money doing GVM and other modifications and still the Y62 cost us less then buying the 300 Landcruiser. I only hope that Nissan Y64 offers at lest as good as the Landcruiser interior appointments ,but also remains completive price wise.
Totally agree the patrol is a not a better car but value for money you just can’t surpass, and when you weigh up servicing costs and at present the cost of diesel which is higher you can’t beat the patrol… Great review 👍
Patrol is V8 (shown on screen) not V6 as per your voiceover. The 2nd row doesn’t slide in the LC300! Does it slide in the Patrol? Your test case would fit in the 300, just flip it on it’s edge. But yeah the Patrol has a larger load space. With the tight turn assist the inside right wheel was being braked - not the left rear! I’d choose the Defender out of the options.
Yes, that mistake got through. I blurted out the wrong thing in voice-over, but I couldn't confuse the mighty Vk56 as a V6. 2nd row doesn't slide in the Patrol, and yes, Defender is a decent option! Defender 130 SE is around the same price as the LandCruiser Sahara.
ill go with Patrol specially the updated interior on left hand drive model, or US model (armada) best value for money, only downside of patrol for me is the petrol engine becoz diesel fuel is cheaper, Land Cruiser 300 is Great in any aspect but i dont like it's dimension, it is so tiny and short to be in full size category suv. im 6'1 in height and LC 300 is kinda small for me in 2nd row, space like mid size suv like Ford everest.
The 10 year old Nissan Patrol is not ancient. Cue in the 70 Series Land Cruiser. That's next level. As for the comparison with the 300 Series, the Patrol feels like a Tardis compared to the 300 which has virtually no cargo space with the 3rd row seats up, and the Toyota's 2nd row footwell feels super cramped especially with the intruding hump on the floor compared to the flat floor in the Patrol. Not sure how Toyota managed to lose so much interior space in this new design. Virtually half a size smaller than the Patrol, which makes the Nissan a more spacious and comfortable touring vehicle. The 300 is definitely less bulky for inner city driving. The Patrol's V8 is a proven engine although it prefers 95 octane. The 300 has an unproven new diesel engine, far too new to determine if it's a reliable engine, especially given Toyota's spotty history with their small diesel engines like the cracking pistons saga with the 1KD and DPF and dusting issues with the 1GD. Good review, all the salient points have been presented, and potential buyers are getting a well informed review. Definitely "horses for courses", not a clear definitive winner.
Not sure I agree with your assessment of "interior" space. We have the 300. I'm 6'2 and plenty of space. Had 3 decent size adult men in the second row a couple of weeks back and everyone was happy with the space available. You can alway get more, but what is there is ample for normal use IMO.
@@8U5HM8 My first hand experience with the 300 is that the center hump is terrible for whoever sits in the center seat. Especially compared to the 200 series or 150 series Prado, where the floor is virtually flat. And as for the 3rd row, we can have the seats in use and still fit an Engel 40 litre sideways behind the seats in the 200. No chance of that in the 300. Some refer to the 300 as a "long nose Prado" - this TH-cam video that gives empirical evidence by way of a measuring tape. Except I already came to those conclusions before that video even came out: th-cam.com/video/dXGIPH5fnOk/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, great comment. It certainly does feel like a horses for courses thing, and both are great in their own ways. But you can't go past the lower price, at the end fo the day. And I'm really interested to see the reputation of the diesel V6 in the long run. - Sam
Would like to understand why Toyota did not do more to increase the payload of the 300 series eg sharhara and other models only have 650 kg. Not really enough for heavy towing plus accessories. In comparison the landrover defender and discos have a lot more and are similarly priced and equally capable off road
With current gas prices Patrol will make you cry every time you'll pull up to the gas station )) For a long trips with off road situations, Patrol is a super comfortable car to be in, LC is not bad either but not as smooth. Also, we still are too early to judge the reliability of a new 300 engine and transmission, maybe in couple of more years we will know for sure if Toyota made it right from the beginning, or it needs to be fixed here and there. So, if money is not an issue and you are not planning to keep a car for longer than 5 years, Toyota is a better choice, but if you are planning to keep the car for a decade, Patrol with its proven NA 5.6 V8 is your choice, despite the extra $ at the pump
Nice review, Armada in the States has the updated interior, Android Auto, etc, which looks actually more modern than the Toyota. Outside styling is about the same as this white model
For 40k less there are decent upgrades available for the patrol, and still plenty left over for accessories. No diff diff locks on land cruiser is a letdown
You could probably spend a little bit on the interior and infotainment, to help bring it up to speed. I'd love one with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. - Sam
No one mentioned wait times for both variants. Patrol into Australia is less than 6 months, what’s the wait time for LC300 atm, I’d confidently say it’d be substantially longer. Great review btw.
Completely agree. Utterly flawed off road test. Rear diff lock not being used to try and give the Landcruiser an advantage, and yet the patrol was still superior. Poor comparison
Slip of the tongue? “Under the bonnet of the Patrol is a 5.6 litre naturally aspirated petrol V6” The most dominant feature of the Patrol is literally the V8, you really should get that part right😂
Bloody hell, mistakes get through sometimes even though we have multiple check points before publishing. Thanks for pointing out, definitely a slip of the tongue, because you couldn't confuse the 5.6 for a v6 ever. - Sam
@@Drivecomau Your multiple checkers are probably drinking Toyota coolaid so they switch off whenever Patrol is discussed.... I caught the error no problem :)
@Drivecomau . It's really sad you're getting hammered for the v6 thing Sam. The complainers are watching your Great Review for FREE and still complain.
Those that say the extra $30,000 buys alot of fuel...It does BUT you get your $30,000 extra back when you sell the cruiser so its a invalid argument. I had a bit of time in both befor I made my choice and in the end it was very clear cut. I now own a 300 Series GR landcruiser.
Thanks mate for these comparisons and am now certainly going with Patrol. Just spoke to the dealer here in Liverpool, Sydney they have dropped the price to $85k for Patrol which is almost $50k less and that is a really big amount of money. However, the question coming to my mind is why they dropped the price from initial $95k to $85k for me?? Is Patrol not May more in demand or something I don’t know ? They have. Dropped $10k and which is a lot of money and so I am feeling bit suspicious too😢
To be honest, there is no need to worry about this. From the reviews it is obvious that the Patrol is a great and good car. I guess you are buying the Ti. A dealer also dropped the TiL to 95K drive away last year Dec but I was unable to complete the purchase due to financial reasons. The dealers have good margin to play around with, one thing is sure, they will not sell below their cost. Please go for it. I am expecting my TiL in October.
Very interesting because I've never heard ANYONE,ANYWHERE say the patrol is the "King of SUV's", nor have i heard it being good as or better than a LC. Interesting.
Maybe you are paying attention. I have seen multiple reviews showing the Patrol is better then the LC both off road and intoning. Have spoken to several owners of both who prefer the Patrol for heavy eg 3599kg towing saying fuel use only 1 to 2l/100kms worse but driving faster and better overtaking. You can replace the infotainment unit with a larger and much more modern unit with Andriod auto and Carplay. Otherwise I find the interior OK but LC clearly better in dash area. I will probably buy a Patrol next year for offroad and towing Never had either before so no bias. A great vehicle for my purposes. And more reliable than recent LCs according to reports.
@declanpower2924 I'm wondering why all around the world the Landcruiser is used in every capacity imaginable but I never hear or see the patrol recognized with the same reputation as the Landcruiser in any way. I never see diplomats, police, dignitaries, farmers etc driving with them. I guess I may be looking in the wrong places.
Not gonna lie Nissan really is an amazing brand we had a Nissan Patrol Super Safari that is a 2010 acquired and the performance is still spot on, now i know it will be far more better in this Patrol Royale but the fuel consumption is just too much and i think i would have to try this Landcruiser 300 since its fuel efficient and has alot of new tech features to offer.
wish we could get a LC 300 in the U.S.solid rear axle $135k auz $ is about $89 k U.S.we pay that for defenders , the sequoia TRD PRO is best thing we have ,to much luxury car the 3rd row takes up cargo space when folded down , the Y62 is sold as Nissan armada no one buys Them , if they named them patrol . as that name like land cruiser means off road rugged around the world we do get the lux barge Lexus LX 600 -LC300 based
Nissan patrol $96k is $64k U.S. your LC300 GX base model is about the same price before on roads as lot of us who want a utilitarian full size wagon for car camping / overland / tour rig have not much to pick from every thing is 3 rows of leather ,2 sunroofs 2nd row ent screen and luxury car bits
If i could have a never driven patrol y60 I would take that 24/7 over both those new so called terrain SUVs. I remember when I lived in Vietnam 1991, at the swedish sida camp we had 2 Nissan y-60. Comfortable but still old school and not complicated with a lot of computer and electronic crap. A 2 or 3 inch lift, 35 inch tire and you have a beast. I'm a jeep guy but Nissan y-60 is actually something I could consider . Dedicated off road nothing beats a wrangler though. ( and yes, my jk wrangler have been very reliable for 11 years now)
The difference between the Land Cruiser and the Patrol is night and day. It's like stepping up from a Corolla to a Lexus flagship. The Patrol is just way too outdated.

The majority of my use is soft sand and consensus around here gives the 300 a noticeable advantage. The 30 grand extra over my ten year average isn't a game ender & Toyota resale is always significantly better as well. Both are good vehicles. Have had both before with nil real complaints.
I don’t know how you were driving the Patrol… maybe enjoying the V8 a bit much 😂😂😂 but I average around 13 -14 litres per 100 in mine, I do about 160kms per day, half in the city and half on the freeway. I recently did a trip from the NSW Central Coast to the Gold Coast and back about 1800kms and I averaged 12 litres per 100 so it’s no where near as thirsty as people may think once the excitement of the amazing V8 wears off!!!
i test drove and ordered a 300 series--- really didnt like it much--- but then drove a y62--- that is what i ended up in my driveway after cancelling the toyota
The LandCruiser 300 Series has full-length curtain airbags that cover first, second, and third rows. It also has side airbags for first and second row occupants, dual front air bags and knee airbags for driver and front passenger. The Patrol has curtain airbags for all three rows too, plus dual front, and front seat side airbags.
I am starting to lean the same way. When you do the sums based upon price difference and fuel consumption difference, it takes several hundred thousand kilometres of use to start to bring the more modern and frugal Toyota in line with the Patrol. Most people will not keep the vehicle that long. Some say what about resale value. Well, how many people still want that V8 sound? That alone will push the Patrol resale value up as more vehicles go to smaller engines with fewer cylinders.
Looks wise i much prefer the patrol. I find the 300 quite ugly especially being how good looking the 200s are, i do love a decent cruiser but for me its the patrol in this one!!! Those v8s once add an exhaust sound glorious too!!!
GR would be even more expensive. The Sahara is the closest spec-for-spec comparison to the Patrol Ti-L, but could also do a price comparison of GXL vs Ti-L. - Sam
I think the Patrol should be vimpared to the GX Landcruiser 300, whuch is an off road rugged vehicle. This white coloured interior is onviously not for off roading. Or cimpare it to the GR sport petrol, that will be interesting to see the performance differences…
If Nissan knew they could put a $130k price tag on the Patrol and maintain sales, they would. Nissan has to sell it $30k less to still only half as many.
@@ironhorse7601 Didn't need to! I like to explore how good traction control works under hard conditions (scrabbling), before chucking on the locker straight away. - Sam
Would it not make sense to compare the two cars at the same retail value? Your comparing luxury at 35k more to the Til. Compare the gx or whatever the price equivalent is. Extremely confused as your comparing creature comforts and electric seats in the rear, if you were paying 135k on a patrol it would have all the fruit too im sure 🤔
Great review, many thanks. Still tough for me to decide between the two though. But then at this time I’m not financially in the market for either of them! So I may be looking at a 200 series. Just love that v8 Diesel!😅
I feel like Armada/Patrol is the way to go. I have a LC 100 but the room behind it is too small. I can place Dometic 25 L fridge barely. Noticed the larger space in the Armada. Will pull the trigger and get an Armada (brand new US$ 41K for SV trim 4x4 white), compared to used 2017 LC 200 which sells at US $65K with about 70K miles and no electronic braking or cross traffic/blind spot monitoring (300 is not available.
Shame you do not get the full fat Patrol off road spec in the states. Nissan north America shooting itself in the foot again. And why not use the global nameplate that is Patrol, bonkers
@@Drivecomau overall I like how you’ve properly compared all facets, hard to deny the lack of the 62 but comparing the fruit itself the 62 really is only lacking in the tech. But like you said for the price difference it’s hard to go past the 62. Not a bad rig really when you factor in it’s a 13yr old platform being compared with Toyota’s flagship hey
Both vehicles tool different lines/angles while off-roading thus no clear conclusion can be drawn, it would be better to employ rollers to check the performance of traction control system.
lt appears that we are seeing a comparison between a 200 and a 300 Series.... the difference is the age and the odo numbers. l cant afford any of the above but in time; when and if l have enough money, l would be leaning towards the 300 Series purely for the fuel consumption as we head towards $3 bucks/litre. Another thing so many forget is the tank range which is really important when the fuel stops are few and far between. The 300 wins here for real.
For people who worried about the fuel consumption, know that the Patrol is a much larger car than the Land Cruiser (naturally larger and heavier consumes more fuel) plus it's almost $40k savings (when you factored in driveaway costs), that buys you 3 lifetime of petrol supplies.
But when you go to sell the patrol compared to the landcruiser you will loose much more money.
So what you do as I have done is buy a good patrol 2nd hand. That way you address both issues - avoid the initial depreciation smack and benefit from incredible value. Land Cruiser I would buy if I went new. Patrol is such a buy 2nd hand.
I'm not sure it is a much larger car once you look up the dimensions. Plus 40k only buys you 300 fill ups. That's not even 1 lifetime of fuel

For the vast price difference between the two the Nissan is the obvious choice and for those who want to take it off road the majority of its time then that money saved will buy you some great add ons and you still have the benefit of it being a more mechanical engine so a lot less to go wrong
The Nissan Patrol (ARMADA here in the US) is the most underrated SUV on sale today.

The old school engine is actually more advanced than the equivalent Toyota V8 petrol.
Variable valve timing and valve lift with direct fuel injection.

Agree. Even if they were the same price, Patrol has it over Landcruiser in the important areas

I hate electric power steering, it feels fake and i don't trust it.
Thank you! We really appreciate it. A really lovely note on the nostalgic feeling some, let's say more traditional, interiors can evoke.

Go LC.
I’d like to see the Patrol vrs the GR Landcruiser off road especially and maybe On road although on road it’ll probably be similar to the Sahara.

Your 100% correct with your winner patrol all day everyday
The Mighty Nissan Patrol is much better!
The price would be hard to live with of the LC
they make a black interior option which is the most sold version.
No diff locks😂😂 only toyota fan boys would think that’s a true 4x4. Over rated shit box
Well at least Toyota's hold there value unlike the rest @@scott8238

The focus on the beige interior was a waste of time. The interior colour is an option not standard. The 13 year old Nissan interior on the other hand is not an option.
Yeah it is. You can choose the colour of your seats
A hybrid with the VQ40 engine would be insanely reliable considering the design. I hope they don't fit a TT engine with a hybrid system.

I only hope that Nissan Y64 offers at lest as good as the Landcruiser interior appointments ,but also remains completive price wise.
Totally agree the patrol is a not a better car but value for money you just can’t surpass, and when you weigh up servicing costs and at present the cost of diesel which is higher you can’t beat the patrol…
Great review 👍
Thankyou!
Have the LC200 1grfe, in the manual it also notes Euro 95, but do you know if i can get away with Euro 92?
Not sure I agree with your assessment of "interior" space. We have the 300. I'm 6'2 and plenty of space. Had 3 decent size adult men in the second row a couple of weeks back and everyone was happy with the space available. You can alway get more, but what is there is ample for normal use IMO.
@@QnA22 1GR-FE (4.0 V6) fitted to Toyotas in Australia (Prado, Hilux, FJ Cruiser) will happily take 91 Octane, so Euro 92 will be no problem at all.
Question is which one will last longer on offroads?
Would like to understand why Toyota did not do more to increase the payload of the 300 series eg sharhara and other models only have 650 kg. Not really enough for heavy towing plus accessories. In comparison the landrover
defender and discos have a lot more and are similarly priced and equally capable off road
In 5 years owning the patrol I’ve never paid more fuel sometimes up to 30c /litre cheaper.
Nice review, Armada in the States has the updated interior, Android Auto, etc, which looks actually more modern than the Toyota. Outside styling is about the same as this white model

You’ve obviously never driven one then… take one for a drive and you will know why we own one :)
@@Tonylaganbruh who would get a TIL when you can buy a base model LC then use for 10yrs and sell for like 30-40% more price than TIL lol also Patrol Breaks everytime and original Nissan parts are way more expensive than Toyota parts
@@Tonylaganit's dmb buying a Patrol for cheap and then after 5yrs it will cost you more because of maintenence since they break a lot.. And then if you sell there's no value on it.. Well I'll say poor ppl who can't buy LC think they will save a lot of money by buying cheap ones but at the end it will cost them more. no brainer💀
As a TB48 Patrol owner. Fuel economy is a social concept to me lol
In my opinion, maintenance cost and resale value must also be considered in the decision making process. Even if it is brief but can you please cover above 2 aspects in your assessment.
You can find more detail on ownership and running costs in the written review at www.drive.com.au/reviews/should-i-buy-a-2023-nissan-patrol-or-a-toyota-landcruiser/
Done 1226 km trip for 153 litres. I a stock TiL Y62. So 12.48 litres to 100km. I wasn't easy on it either. Computer says 15 ish around town. But I'd have to work it out for certainty
The majority of my use is soft sand and consensus around here gives the 300 a noticeable advantage. The 30 grand extra over my ten year average isn't a game ender & Toyota resale is always significantly better as well. Both are good vehicles. Have had both before with nil real complaints.
These two are the best. Unlike land rover that keeps showing its indicator lights
While safety???
Cant wait to have LAND CRUISER 300 2024❤❤
The presenter said nissan patrol is v6 😅😅
2:23 mins
Oops 😅
Lay Off !!! We all know it's a v8 !!!
Throughout the rest of his very balanced review, he makes continued reference to the V8!!!
Yeah, slip of the tongue that wasn't picked up in the checking phases. VK56 is every bit a V8
Thanks for sticking up for us Tony!
why theres no screen display on the back here in the Philippines?
I don’t know how you were driving the Patrol… maybe enjoying the V8 a bit much 😂😂😂 but I average around 13 -14 litres per 100 in mine, I do about 160kms per day, half in the city and half on the freeway. I recently did a trip from the NSW Central Coast to the Gold Coast and back about 1800kms and I averaged 12 litres per 100 so it’s no where near as thirsty as people may think once the excitement of the amazing V8 wears off!!!
Totally agree. I can get low to mid 11’s all freeway driving and that’s off the fuel pump at the servo, not dash read out
Stock standard you will get low 11’s on the freeway. Around town all stop start around 17/18.
i test drove and ordered a 300 series--- really didnt like it much--- but then drove a y62--- that is what i ended up in my driveway after cancelling the toyota
I'd go with the LC 300. We don't get the Sahara version. But the GR-sport I'd go for. Fuel economy, and off-road tech.
النيسان باترول افضل بالف مره اللند كروزر قبيح شكله..، الباترول هيبه وفخامه ماشاء الله
just sad that MItsubishi Pajero has been discutinued long time ago. Should have been the LC, Patrol and Pajero is competing in this segment.
awesome Toyota Land Cruiser 300 series # but does it has air bags for 2nd & 3rd row seats ???? # ❤️🇵🇰
Those v8s once add an exhaust sound glorious too!!!
why didnt you compare the gr landcruiser? and how much space was avail in the third row of each?
Depends if you're willing or con spend even more money
The GR is only two rows (no third row) plus the price gap would stretched even further.
GR would be even more expensive. The Sahara is the closest spec-for-spec comparison to the Patrol Ti-L, but could also do a price comparison of GXL vs Ti-L. - Sam
Did u watch the video ?
He did get in Row 3 in both vehicles, which showed how much space for adults in Row 3
I think the Patrol should be vimpared to the GX Landcruiser 300, whuch is an off road rugged vehicle. This white coloured interior is onviously not for off roading. Or cimpare it to the GR sport petrol, that will be interesting to see the performance differences…
a very good review.
Youre one of the best.
I doubt the next gen patrol would be as capable off-roader as current gen. infinity qx80 reference
If Nissan knew they could put a $130k price tag on the Patrol and maintain sales, they would. Nissan has to sell it $30k less to still only half as many.
It’s a DVD player for the rear screens no t a CD player
2:26 noting you said the patrol has a V6 and not a V8. Though the onscreen info is correct.
Great review. Nice and subjective, and good point about working the vehicles up the hill.
Cheers! - Sam
And not using all the off road features. Did not engage rear diff lock of Patrol, why?
The 200 Series seems to be holding it's value quite well, certainly not a bargain - Sam
Great review - thank you. Would love to see the Warrior pitted against the GR Sport.
@@ironhorse7601 agreed! I wish we got the real Patrol over here stateside
I have owned a LC100 and a Mercedes GL500. I would not touch the new LC300 because it is Diesel only
Nissan Y61. I can’t believe Nissan gave up on the Y61. Nissan are lost without the guiding hand of Carlos Ghosn.
Good review except the Patrol is V8 Not V6
Yep, my mistake. It's most definitely a V8 - Sam
5 hour drive measured at bowser 11 l/100 for the y62
you woundt think it was ten years older as i think it looks just as good as the 300
Patrol 👍
I don't understand why everyone reviews the Sahara when the LC 300GR is perfect for off road.
