    Toyota LandCruiser versus Nissan Patrol. It’s an old-time battle with some all-time hardware. Although the LandCruiser was facelifted in 2016, its bones date back to 2007. The Nissan Patrol was more recently refreshed in 2019, after launching as an all-new, petrol-only platform in 2010.

    Fantastic non biased review. So i currently own a 200 series VX, i love the thing to bits< thought I'm not going to lie, i am little toyota biased. I recently drove the new Series 5 Patrol. I hate to say, i was impressed! i only drove it on the road. The patrol handles like a car, and makes the landruiser feel boaty in comparison, amazing really, not only that, the acceleration on the Patrol was smooth and super quick with real grunt! i have to confess, i would really consider the patrol if i was to choose again.. In my opinion, Both are awesome vehicles

      Actually I feel the other way. I have had a pajero for 3 years and am now looking for something more comfy for long distance driving. I have more confidence on the handling of LC200 than Y62 as I found the steering wheel of Y62 is too light and the ride is sometimes a bit jittery.

    The Y62 is aimed towards the luxury car market but still retains its go-anywhere reputation arguably better than the Land Cruiser despite only coming in Petrol. It's the Y62 for me as well.

    3:53 - LC200 has a 4.5L TTV8 diesel, not a 4.8 TV8 diesel...

  • @johncanalese588
    @johncanalese588 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    CORRECTION: The LC200 uses a full-time 4wd via a centre-differential feeding power to both front and rear axles - hence why it needs a seperate locking system on this diff. The Patrol has no centre-differential. Instead it utilises a clutch pack on its transfer case which, when engaged sends power to the front axle. In AUTO mode, drive is sent to the rear axle only, with drive only being sent to the front axle when slip is detected. If 4wd-HI or 4wd-LO is selected then said clutch pack is permanently engaged and you have a ‘locked’ 4wd system.

  • @nemesis5992

    I will choose the Patrol. Better value for money and 90% of the time you're gonna be on-road, not off-road. Leather interior and rear locker with the base model. It's an obvious choice. The Patrol definitely looks more modern and sophisticated and you can save that 20 Grand and turn it into a weapon. More bang for your buck. Shame it's not the UAE interior tho. Also, I currently have a diesel rig and the cost of running on diesel is obviously cheaper but, it's much more expensive to maintain and get parts for the engine and it's very loud. If you want to relax and be comfortable definitely petrol V8.

    • @elrud5964
      @elrud5964 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@craigdavid6668 the LC emissions system is well known to clog and block the intake with in 150000 kms of new, and doing a full intake dismantle and clean costs a fortune. Also the LC air cleaner is well knows to let fine dust bypass the filter and in extreme cases dust the engine causing complete failure, also early models (07-11) are known to burn a lot of engine oil.
      It has to do with the review because the patrol doesn’t have these issues.

    Went out two years ago to buy a 200 series and came home with a Ti Patrol. Haven't regretted it once. It's simply a better vehicle in every way, and it's actually $30,000 cheaper than a similar spec VX cruiser. How anyone could spend $90k+ on a GXL cruiser is beyond me. They are absolutely poverty spec inside, a total ripoff, you get more features on a $20k Hyundai.

      @Trimat - Simple problem called reliability. The LC if properly maintained will do an excess of 1 000 000km relatively trouble free with hard driving included. Let's how the other others stack up?

    • @trimat2016
      @trimat2016 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@louvendran7273 Problem for the LC you mean? The Y62 has been on the market in Aus since 2013, and the world market since 2010. Apart from a timing chain issue on series one, there have been no systemic reliability issues with them. They're pretty much bullet proof. The same cannot be said for the LC200. Apart from the well known dusting issue from the dodgy air cleaner all modern diesels have issues with all the anti-pollution they're covered in, as well as being extremely vulnerable to sub-standard fuel. Toyota is still trading on a reputation built on the 80 and 100 series. Sadly the 200 series is not in the same class, it's just too complicated to reach high mileages without costing it's owner a small fortune in repair's.

    Got to love the comments about the interior, one is for the city (Patrol), and the other is better for the bush (LC). The leather scratches and can be hard to clean etc. The cloth is a lot easier to get out the mud etc.
    Then you have the Crawl mode, which you didn't give it any justice or even look at. Go use it, its not for driving normally, but when bogged in sand or mud, or when climbing gravel it is amazing as hell. Just an extra system to help.

    Almost bought the patrol. But last minute bought the Landcruiser and was the best choice. Especially with gvm upgrades and boat loading weights on the roof, if your loading up weight the 200 is easier to modify. Plus the diesel life span is much longer and will hold its value better here in Australia. Fuel and refuelling is safer. My investment was for over 10 years. If your buying a pavement princess go the patrol.

      @tcmx712 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@missjessicalawrence 3 reasons for that. One is lack of good petrol out country (alot of places don't even have it) along with prices of it or if on cattle stations or mines the machines/tractors use diesel so it's easier to just tank in 1000's of litres in at once rather than get a separate batch of petrol. Also toyota has incredible fleet/business deals so they can be cheaper if bought in bulk. Then you've got that toyota reputation of reliability, but that was built on the 80/105 series and 70 series. Since then they are no more reliable than any other car with I'd say even less reliability with the 200 against the y62. The y62 has no major issue known unlike the 200 (injectors, airbox leaks, fuel level sensor shutting vehicle down randomly, egr+dpf issues aswell just to name a few)

    The comment about the older dash setup and tech in the patrol warrants the comment; the vehicles offered overseas are up to date spec. The touch screen is larger and more modern and it is criminal that Nissan refuses to treat their Australian customers as they do their overseas clients. Your comment of dated dash followed by BUT is nothing more than a cop out. I sent an email to Nissan when the patrol was reintroduced into Australia, they rang me and kept implying that "they listen to their customers". I asked if that is the case, why does the Australian version have a dash set up and tech 5 years old and not the same as i.e. the UAE. She repeated that, they listen to their customers. When I repeated the question, she hung up. In 1979 when a manufacturer was testing a soon to be released large 4x4 here, I asked the techs and their managers why the same vehicle offered in North America and Europe was so much better finished and appointed than the one to be offered here? They told me, Australians don't question and will buy whatever we want to give them. Seems nothing has changed. We're still given the plastic, outdated dregs, while the rest if the world gets the cream. What a pity auto journalists aren't screaming from the rooftops about such things. Instead they lick boots in case their free rides are taken away.

When it comes to sell your vehicle you will get $80k with KM's under 100k. Also if you go off road the 200 series has far more range. Petrol Vehicles don't offer that. I am buying a patrol simply because its the heaviest SUV around at almost 3 tonne. I checked out some others in the 2,000-2350kg range and they are just too light in their quest for fuel economy although a lot of them are bloody nice inside for a cheap price like the 2021 ssangyong rexton.
    If you search 'vehicle weight crash' you can see what two 5 star rated cars hitting each other when one is 500kg heavier is like. Not pretty for the lighter vehicle. Also monash uni do real crash statistics to show which vehicles are safe and the correlation between weight and injuries/fatalities is very shocking.
    So simply for the safety of a huge, high, long and heavy vehicle in protecting my family if we ever happen to be involved in an accident. Its worth it for me. Upgrading from a mitsubishi 380 sedan by the way.
