    As an owner of the production version of this card I can confirm that the caps on the back are now in a x2 + x4 config. Also this card seems to oc pretty well. I was able to get a +190core/+1000mem pretty easily putting clock speeds in the 2050-2080 area.
    Heaven bench mark 2560x1440p max settings scored a 3738 with an avg frame rate of 148. Approximately a 20fps jump compared to my old 2080ti.

    • @erikhendrickson59
      @erikhendrickson59 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ultimately doesn't seem to matter. I have my card on water now and though it won't even break 50c in winter months the clocks STILL eventually drop to the 1925mhz range after awhile under load
      Which is fine honestly. You'd be VERY hard pressed to notice the difference between 1800mhz vs 2000mhz gcore (without active monitoring -- in which case you may get 2 or 3 additional frames when the card is under full load)

      What's the point in running outdated API benchmarks? I'm asking because 20 fps is a nice improvement, sure, but that's such a (seemingly) random thing to test. Heaven is old lol. People are too concerned with FPS of games based on DX10, DX11, etc., when in reality what the card actually allows you to do is execute entirely new graphical features supported by updated shader models and APIs like DirectX, OpenGL, and Vulkan.
      Frustrating to see so many folks basing the success of a new card on irrelevant benchmarks. Anyway part of this is just me ranting, but kudos to you for the OC lol.

    EVGA has always been super cool about warranty claims even if the sticker is removed. I removed mine on my 1080 ti SC2 because I swapped thermal pads and thermal paste after 3 years of use. Then not long after that, the card started stuttering a lot and I shared everything I did and the procedure I went through and even still they completely honored a replacement without any hassle. Even though there might have been something on my part that accidentally caused the card to not perform right, I don't know, because temps were better after replacing everything. But either way they have had the best customer service out of any other component manufacturer from my experience. I'm not always the biggest fan of aesthetics on their GPUs, but I'll still go with them because of their customer service.

      Doesn't really matter after the new update. Theoretically a mix of SP Cap and MLCC arrays is ideal, but, after the latest driver we're not seeing the crashing anyway, so it wasn't really a purely hardware issue.

    • @coredumperror
      @coredumperror 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Yeah, Steve mentioned this in a previous video. He said that EVGA contacted him and let him know that they'd found issues with the 6x big cap setup and pre-production testing (which Nvidia gave them next to not time to do), and had changed to a 2x and 4x setup (iirc) for production.

    • @Tucarius
      @Tucarius 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@JB-xl2jc Nobody said it was purely hardware. In saying that, i don't see any reason 'having a mix' would be ideal when we know the 10x of the smaller ones is better for avoiding electrical noise. Also, the new update didn't technically *fix* anything, it (to my knowledge) just lowered the boost clock.

    Nice to see a card other than the Strix with a fan header for case/rad fans on it.
    I sadly don't work at Intel anymore, but I tried to push for them to get PCI SIG to reserve a register for temperature reporting so motherboards could control fans based on PCIe device temps if desired. Unfortunately, it didn't get very far. But I highly encourage others to email PCI SIG, and if you work at a member company to lobby for that internally so these "workarounds" aren't needed

I was able to tweak the core clock to +125 and +525 mem. Obviously limiting factors were power/wattage. Very very impressed with this RTX 3080 overall. 100% increase in performance over my 1070ti which was overclocked.

If you like Green it will still look very dark and it will only really shine if you use red LEDs, which in that instance. You likely like the red anyway.. But if it still ruffles your feathers, use masking tape and krylon. Now me personally. I would liked the accent lines to been frosted silver or chrome.. If I was designing the color scheme thats what I would have went with. That said, the most obnoxious thing about this card is the crap thermal paste..
