i wouldn't call this a review exactly it's more like a comprehensive breakdown of the card .. why don't you add a section where you literally say '' buy it '' or '' don't buy it'' and why only gripe i got with the channel.
I find it funny how in the US this is one of the most expensive 3080's to get. But where I got it in Australia it was one of the cheapest, almost matching the FE card in for price

@@GamersNexus to add to that, the reason for it is the cards have been universally increased well beyond MSRP. MSRP was 1139 AUD but just about all cards start at 1400. The EVGA FTW3 Ultra is 1260 from a store called PLE. It's 1500 elsewhere. For some odd reason only one retailer sells EVGA at their MSRP and funny enough the other variants at the same stores are well over MSRP same as other stores. Must of had a deal or something. That's the only reason it's "cheap" for us because everything else has been price gouged that bad.
@@CaveyMoth Not sure if serious or crazy but vacuums are literally used for insulation ( eg, vacuum flask ) there is near-zero cooling potential in a vacuum.
@@CaveyMoth A vacuum is the best kind insulator, so a horrible cooling setup. In a vacuum you lose two out of four types of heat transfer, you are not able to shed heat by conduction or convection, since phase changes are usually not feasible as well, you're left with only radiation. That's why our main method of insulation is using air, which as a gas is much closer to a vacuum then water. Anything that traps a layer of air, like Styrofoam or dow jackets or double glazed windows will be an excellent insulator, even better if it traps a vacuum.
I got my FTW Ultra through their new queue system. HUGE kudos to EVGA for doing something no one else was willing to do. They literally built a queue system out of their notify dates going all the way back to launch and sent e-mails to people in order with links to a GPU only they could buy... EVGA FTW!

At first I wasn't sure if I'd want to spend the money for the 3080 because I have to pay for the steam deck within the next 3 months so I offered the 3080 to my coworkers first but they didn't need it so I ended up biting the bullet and getting it while I had the chance.
EVGA's support has been awesome for me on the very few occasions where I have any issue with their gear. I've only been building computers a few years, but they are BY FAR the best manufacturer in terms of support in my opinion. I have this GPU and an EVGA 1200w Plat PSU. I'm very happy.
Just got one of these used in late 2022 for about 580 USD (equivalent). That transferable warranty is a very nice feature, especially for prospective second-hand buyers.
@@eamontanner6778 I just got one off ebay, and its a product number ending in -rx, or B-stock. I'd double check when you get your card because those only come with a 1 year warranty.
I get the reasons why, but still a little disappointed a few benchmarks weren't included.. Mainly because nobody else ensures data accuracy like you guys, it's always good to have a reliable references point.
Yes, I'm very disappointed that I watched the whole thing without seeing the tests I wanted to see. I could care less about half of the tests here. I just want a reliable source for gaming performance on newest firmware updates.
Pretty excited to be getting my FTW3 in tomorrow. Why did I go with it? It was the first one available for me to purchase given the current stock situation. Kudos to EVGA for their queue system btw, worked like a charm.
Just bought the 12gb FTW 3 Ultra from Micro Center in NY for $999 and the extended warranty which gets me the 3090 up to a Ti just paying the difference. Putting it through It’s paces and so far it’s Stellar! Need some Ray Tracing enabled games now to see how good it is. Xbox GamePass and Steam are going to give it a workout.
I swear with every generation I feel like EVGA does a controversial color design for more attention lol. All of them should include googly eyes for the lipstick red.

I have resigned to waiting till the Spring before getting something because they were retards that decided to launch without stock - All those brilliant minds yet they didn't learn from 1000 series release. Guess I am waiting and hoping AMD 5800x and Asus X570 Dark has enough stock for that upgrade.
@@seen3804 For a CPU..........yeah no problem, there won't be near the demand a lot of people are on Zen 2 and already on X570, you would be stupid to immediately upgrade and not wait till fall next year for AM5. Personally I don't like AMD/ATI GPUS every one I had, I had major issues with either driver wise or hardware parts burning out faster than they should have because they decided to emulate 200-400 series Nvidia GPUs. Never had issues getting a CPU on launch for builds with the exception of 9000 and 10000 series Intel parts maybe 1 or 2 lines way back of AMD where I had to wait 2 weeks from launch for middlemen suppliers to get the stock in as it was delayed and OEMs hogged the supply. That's was before E-tailors were even a thing though.

Any cpu on the market now is great for gaming. My 10850k/3080 will be good for at least 4 years gaming at 1440p and 4k.
@@riba2233 TUF OC and Gaming X Trio are the same price (750 USD). Never before on a GPU release (or mb release for that matter) have we made judgements based off which product has dual bios. Personally I’d rather take TUF OC but remember for the same price the Trio has the same noise normalized thermals (according to other reviewers, I want to see what Steve reveals), and has some of the best out of the box boost clocks and acoustics. Just sayin I think there is a debate there and am interested in Steve’s analysis. And yes I understand the TUF OC has a beefier power delivery system. But again that doesn’t make MSI’s inadequate. MSI’s past Trios have always been pretty standard in VRM quality but have still been very popular. Just throws another factor into the decision-making. Interested to see what Steve says :)
Soooo with normal VBIOS i was idling anywhere from 45-55C with ambient temp being between 21-22C... After switching to the OC VBIOS I'm now idling at 34-37C with current ambient at 21C... I may never have thought to make that change for improving idle temps without your testing... Thank you Tech-Jesus and Tech-Apostles for your enlightenment.

I was planning on getting the TUF since I'm not going to overclock, but my local Microcenter restocked and only had the Strix and FTW3, so I ended up going with the EVGA. It's a bit overkill since I'm running everything at factory clock settings, but I did get an 850w 80+ gold psu, so I might try my hand at some overclocking once the weather cools down in Texas so my room doesn't become an oven.
So happy I was able to snag one of these from EVGA's step-up program. Bought a 2080 Super in the summer and my step up expired one day after the launch of the 3080 so I got really lucky
This is the one i ended up with. I just wanted a TUF but came across one of these and rolled the dice on it. Unnecessary for me to pay the premium, but whatever. Maybe I'll care to overclock one day, but for now I'm undervolting to run cool at the cost of just a couple frames.

I can't believe they still haven't fixed that bug, it makes setting a custom fan curve impossible because the fans will randomly speed up to 100%, good thing I gave up and just left it on auto lol
This is an OC enthusiast card, and we didn't see any frequency OCing results. For instance, people have supposedly been getting over 2100mhz on the Strix models with the 450W bios that is stock on them, but the FTW3 doesn't appear to get anywhere close to that despite the vbios with the increased power limit. Yet you were able to set your world record with one of these cards. Something isn't adding up here, and we should really see frequency maximus at max fans, etc.... To make a more informed decision for those of us who ARE interested in OCing our cards.
I'm stable at +165 Core and +600 Memory on my FTW3 Ultra. Benchmark Core clock is recorded at 2160MHz, with a 2130MHz average clock. Average temp was 58 °C. I run a more modest +135/+400 for daily use to keep temps down. Benchmark is with GPU fans at 100% in a Corsair 465x case with all panels on. Case and CPU fans set at default curves. It's funny, I'm currently on a low - medium upgrade budget, buying components as I go. First component was mobo 2 weeks ago and I'm buying a part every 2 weeks when I get paid. So I'm basically hoping that by the time I've bought everything else, I'll be able to get my hands on a 3080 as my last component lol. Nice 'little' cherry on top!
Interesting how the different versions/partners doesn't really matter with the 3080, it was not like that with the 1080's you could get ~10% difference in performance depending on the card...

@@joshbaker3238 bought LHR in 2021 summer for 1400 cash and I got my use out of it so it was worth it for me as I sold my 1080TI not knowing I would not be able to get a 3080 from bust buy or online for over a year. I wish I would have just bought one for 1000 the first week they were for sale and saved my self a year and a half of being screwed and 400 dollars. Or bought the 3090 for 1400 from micro center I could have bought and should have bought, I could have bought 2 at the time selling 1 of them for double the price if i wanted making mine free. Now I will give my computer to a family member in need like I did my last 2 and buy a 7800x3d and a 7900xtx and OC it with SAM making it faster tHAN A 4090 =)
Does anyone else find the noise normalized thermal tests in these kinds of segments absolutely hilarious? You guys should start doing noise normalized tests for LN overclocking too.
Easy enough to fix. It was a bit louder than I liked I just set a custom fan curve and dropped the power target 5% (360W). It runs 80C but that's fine.
Do a video where you recomend the best 3080 for stock use and which for OC. And divide them into categories like overall, thermals, power, acoustics etc
Why don't you guys do an undervolting a 3080 tutorial. I've seen it on other channels and it look like you can drop about 100W without losing any performance.
Is there a noticeable difference in liquid metal application with uneven die height versus something else with a more flat die? Such as with the Asus TUF card versus the EVGA 3080 card?
I got the XC3 Ultra as I managed to snag one off Amazon early October and the card is booty cheeks. Its extremely hot even for 330W limit and loud during gaming. I'm getting 80c at 80%+ fan speed. And yes my case it very well cooled in a 70C environment. Had 2080 Gaming X Trio in same system and it was 72C at 50% fan speed during load. I am doing step up for just an extra $40 for that FTW3 version. What are the temps when gaming? How loud is it? What's the fan speed % when gaming? During gaming whats max core clock / memory you can get?
As much as I love and respect GN, I wish they wouldn't have wasted air time talking about why they wouldn't include gaming benchmarks. Even though I agree it's irrelevant, presenting a couple of quick charts about gaming would be FAR more useful than wasting 1-2 minutes talking about not including them because it is wasting viewer's time.
I think in this instance it's more about saving their own time than ours. If they are genuinely skipping further gaming FPS benchmarks entirely then they're probably saving a decent amount of behind-the-scenes time even if they turned the explanation into a song and dance routine.
@@KirkIronz That it's their job is all the more reason to spend that time efficiently rather than working on redundant tests. Steve has been open about how he doesn't feel their current schedule is realistic in the long term. If they are to continue producing their current level of quality output that means that they need to cut the fat wherever they can.

Totally max out all graphics settings ad American truck simulator on 4K with this card :) Extreme happy with this card it was the only one available in the store ad 1089€ .
I can't remember when it has been this hard to get a graphics card or any PC product for that matter. At least not something that is supposed to be "mainstream". I watch all these reviews of the cards yet no one can get them.
Sept. 4, 2022 - I am an "evangelist" for EVGA products and especially their customer service. Their Tech reps are the kindest and most professional people across all companies and corporations. I buy all of my PC desktop computer parts directly from EVGA when possible, and from Amazon when EVGA is out of stock. Corsair is worthy of mention here because their RAM and peripheral products are outstanding, and their customer service is also very good especially in regards to RAM. I only mention these companies because I think that people that are building their own PCs should get some input from others in the community. Thanks always to Gamers Nexus for their informative and helpful videos.

My number came up in the EVGA queue yesterday and I bought this card without a second thought. $100 over the FE card is well worth it IMHO. Better overclocking headroom, RGB lighting, near silent operation, superior 3-year factory warranty that covers modding and transfers to the second owner, and amazing EVGA customer support. It's a no brainer to buy this card.
I wanted FE, because I feel like $700 is the most I wanted to spend, best aesthetics & I had bb gift cards. Missed/messed up bb checkout & now it’s stupid store pickup that is even harder with availability now. Tuf & strix are always gone too. Was getting frustrated. Ended up catching a ftw3 ultra & used bb gift cards on other things. Sold some other things to cover the $110 difference. Nice that it got 450w bios. Will probably build this weekend to finally do cyberpunk. Past cards have been evga that resold easily due to transferable warranty. Even did step up b4. Definitely best cs & company. Probably #2 oc card but with cs, $40 cheaper than strix/better rgb/2 slot sff, it’s a good #1 choice. Seem to get to 2/3 performance of 3090 so probably close to 3080ti for $1k and can be 10 FPS above FE.
No complaints here. Just "Thank you Tech Jesus for reviewing EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3." I'm happy with my Ryzen 1600 with RX 580 (8GB). But I do love watching all these tech reviews on PC hardware while I can't afford it.
Looking at the fans got me to question how the use of a counter rotating middle fan changes the noise level, characteristics and airflow. Asus has used that on at least some of their graphics cards where the middle fan counter rotates claiming it lowers the noise and makes for better airflow. I've worked a lot with servers where counter rotating fans are very common, but there they are always used in a package with a counter rotating fan behind a normally rotating fan. In this configuration they support higher static pressure than if they were both spinning the same way. However I can't say they are particularly silent. It's also common that fans has a stator behind the fan as a cheaper and more compact alternative, again it is said to increase the static pressure and airflow, and again I can't claim to have noticed them being quieter but rather I feel they are noisier than a similar fan without the stator. This makes me wonder how Asus claims really measures up. It would be interesting to know if all three fans on the RTX 3090 TUF has the same specs apart from the middle one counter rotating. If so then an interesting test would be to replace the middle fan with one identical to the other two and compare both the cooling and the sound. One thing about the counter rotating fan is that if there is significant leakage of air from the edge of the fans into the airflow of the fan beside it then the noise profile should change when using a counter rotating fan in the middle, cutting the amplitude of the very high end of the noise and adding some to the lower end. At least if it works as I believe. However I don't know how the average noise volume would be changed. However if the fans are partitioned so the airflow interference is minimized then there shouldn't be a noticeable difference.
So for normal use, the FTW3 chugs 60W more than the TUF or Eagle (340 vs 400) for no performance increase? I mean, that could be the difference between needing a 600-650W PSU and a 700-750W. Given that you can find a TUF for FE MSRP, buy a TUF. If you'll NEVER overclock and can't find a TUF anyway, buy can an Eagle. For extreme OC, you probably want a Strix anyway. Failing that, probably a TUF (although I await the Buildzoid breakdown of the FTW3). Looks to me like the FTW3 is only really for water cooling and/or more OC tinkering (more than most users who are willing to OC, less than 'extreme').
this is where benchmarks would have helped. Not sure it’s “no performance increase”. He’s making the point that we should not care about 3-5fps, only about quality of life metrics such as noise and temps. I had an XC3 which I overclocked, now an FTW3 which when overlocked got me from 53 fps to 58+ fps. And I do care about that, irrational or not. The enthusiasts have always chased down “marginal” performance gains.
@@supervelous We would need to see data to prove anything (obviously). The frequency graph had the FTW3 at a much flatter line but also a much lower line. See 14:02 AFAIK a lower more consistent clock doesn't give more performance than a higher less consistent clock. Especially not when the lows of the less stable frequency are still higher than the consistent frequency.
I mean my FTW3 Ultra has the best score on 3D mark for my CPU. I’m cruising at 2100 MHz with the 450w bios and OCing up to a barely stable 2174 MHz +190 clock and +1200 mem which I doubt would be possible with less than 450w
@@InternetEntity I also am at 2100 or so consistent on air on the new bios. I think GN tested with no increase to power limit from stock. Which I’d argue people buying this card are buying it in large part because of the extra power that allows them to achieve high stable clocks. Also, GN noted they set a world record for OC using the FTW3. They just aren’t using OC data.
Hi Steve , another video with the numbers and data your following is looking for. Great to see, it keeps us coming back. I was hoping to see a build with all Gen 4 parts if possible. I'm contemplating building around the x570 when the the new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs arrive. As far as I have seen, no one has put a video out of a build with all Gen 4 components. ( 3000 series graphic card, gen 4 M.2, Ryzen CPU ) and the proper speed ram to take advantage of it all. I would love to know if I build my new PC around all Gen 4 , will it be worth it?
I'm getting the EVGA 3080 just because of the Step-up Program. I built a new PC a day after 3080s and getting my hand on one was impossible. I ended up getting an EVGA Gforce RTX 2070 Super and then I am stepping up to the EVGA FTW3 3080. I am already in a queue. This way I know I will get a 3080 eventually and not have to worry much about it. I can also do some nice gaming in the meantime. This 2070 is a huge step up from what I had. I had a Nvidea 945M on a laptop.
@@christophervanzetta two 8pins can go 450w. It's just stability that's the issue. Ik someone who flashed their 3080 Giga OC with the ftw3 ultra 450w bios. Hits 450w on benchmarks but he was getting a lower score than before. Bios just might not be as compatible with his card. Who knows.
In Australia, it’s only $30 more for the ftw3 ultra compared to the ftw3 ($1260 instead of $1230). That makes it $150-$200 cheaper than the rest of the 3080’s
gotta say from the front it isn’t the best looking card and the red lips on it are horrible. But from the side its fine, where most people will view it from. The lightbar is nice, and it also has a nice backplate. You don’t see the fan side when mounted. I certainly wouldn’t vertical mount it though.
Hey, I was the first to make fun of it, but when mine actually came in it's pretty damn slick and built extremely well. Mounted in the case and from the side it's one of the best looking cards ever thanks to the quality of the LEDs used.

Even if the Tuf is better in some objective sense, in Australia it costs about $200 more than the FTW3, so it's a tuf sell.

Bought this card, it's a beast! The optional 450watt bios was a huge, huge boost if you overclock.

Just bought the 12gb FTW 3 Ultra from Micro Center in NY for $999 and the extended warranty which gets me the 3090 up to a Ti just paying the difference. Putting it through It’s paces and so far it’s Stellar! Need some Ray Tracing enabled games now to see how good it is. Xbox GamePass and Steam are going to give it a workout.

@@seen3804 For a CPU..........yeah no problem, there won't be near the demand a lot of people are on Zen 2 and already on X570, you would be stupid to immediately upgrade and not wait till fall next year for AM5.
Personally I don't like AMD/ATI GPUS every one I had, I had major issues with either driver wise or hardware parts burning out faster than they should have because they decided to emulate 200-400 series Nvidia GPUs.
Never had issues getting a CPU on launch for builds with the exception of 9000 and 10000 series Intel parts maybe 1 or 2 lines way back of AMD where I had to wait 2 weeks from launch for middlemen suppliers to get the stock in as it was delayed and OEMs hogged the supply. That's was before E-tailors were even a thing though.

@@riba2233 TUF OC and Gaming X Trio are the same price (750 USD). Never before on a GPU release (or mb release for that matter) have we made judgements based off which product has dual bios. Personally I’d rather take TUF OC but remember for the same price the Trio has the same noise normalized thermals (according to other reviewers, I want to see what Steve reveals), and has some of the best out of the box boost clocks and acoustics. Just sayin I think there is a debate there and am interested in Steve’s analysis.
And yes I understand the TUF OC has a beefier power delivery system. But again that doesn’t make MSI’s inadequate. MSI’s past Trios have always been pretty standard in VRM quality but have still been very popular. Just throws another factor into the decision-making. Interested to see what Steve says :)
Soooo with normal VBIOS i was idling anywhere from 45-55C with ambient temp being between 21-22C...
After switching to the OC VBIOS I'm now idling at 34-37C with current ambient at 21C... I may never have thought to make that change for improving idle temps without your testing...

I was planning on getting the TUF since I'm not going to overclock, but my local Microcenter restocked and only had the Strix and FTW3, so I ended up going with the EVGA. It's a bit overkill since I'm running everything at factory clock settings, but I did get an 850w 80+ gold psu, so I might try my hand at some overclocking once the weather cools down in Texas so my room doesn't become an oven.

This is the one i ended up with. I just wanted a TUF but came across one of these and rolled the dice on it. Unnecessary for me to pay the premium, but whatever. Maybe I'll care to overclock one day, but for now I'm undervolting to run cool at the cost of just a couple frames.

4:46 This bug seem to appear with EVGA Flow Control as well, when it sometimes shows my CPU temps skyrocketing off the charts for one frame or so.
I can't believe they still haven't fixed that bug, it makes setting a custom fan curve impossible because the fans will randomly speed up to 100%, good thing I gave up and just left it on auto lol

This is an OC enthusiast card, and we didn't see any frequency OCing results. For instance, people have supposedly been getting over 2100mhz on the Strix models with the 450W bios that is stock on them, but the FTW3 doesn't appear to get anywhere close to that despite the vbios with the increased power limit. Yet you were able to set your world record with one of these cards. Something isn't adding up here, and we should really see frequency maximus at max fans, etc.... To make a more informed decision for those of us who ARE interested in OCing our cards.

I'm stable at +165 Core and +600 Memory on my FTW3 Ultra. Benchmark Core clock is recorded at 2160MHz, with a 2130MHz average clock. Average temp was 58 °C. I run a more modest +135/+400 for daily use to keep temps down.
Benchmark is with GPU fans at 100% in a Corsair 465x case with all panels on. Case and CPU fans set at default curves. Stock 10850K CPU.

I wish I would have just bought one for 1000 the first week they were for sale and saved my self a year and a half of being screwed and 400 dollars. Or bought the 3090 for 1400 from micro center I could have bought and should have bought, I could have bought 2 at the time selling 1 of them for double the price if i wanted making mine free. Now I will give my computer to a family member in need like I did my last 2 and buy a 7800x3d and a 7900xtx and OC it with SAM making it faster tHAN A 4090 =)

So, the bottom-line here is to get the one with the best noise/power normalized temps.
Easy enough to fix. It was a bit louder than I liked I just set a custom fan curve and dropped the power target 5% (360W). It runs 80C but that's fine.

Is there a noticeable difference in liquid metal application with uneven die height versus something else with a more flat die? Such as with the Asus TUF card versus the EVGA 3080 card?

I got this card shortly after the Auto Notify, queue system. Working great so far. Got a nice OC on it as well.
I got the XC3 Ultra as I managed to snag one off Amazon early October and the card is booty cheeks. Its extremely hot even for 330W limit and loud during gaming. I'm getting 80c at 80%+ fan speed. And yes my case it very well cooled in a 70C environment. Had 2080 Gaming X Trio in same system and it was 72C at 50% fan speed during load. I am doing step up for just an extra $40 for that FTW3 version. What are the temps when gaming? How loud is it? What's the fan speed % when gaming? During gaming whats max core clock / memory you can get?

As much as I love and respect GN, I wish they wouldn't have wasted air time talking about why they wouldn't include gaming benchmarks. Even though I agree it's irrelevant, presenting a couple of quick charts about gaming would be FAR more useful than wasting 1-2 minutes talking about not including them because it is wasting viewer's time.
I think in this instance it's more about saving their own time than ours. If they are genuinely skipping further gaming FPS benchmarks entirely then they're probably saving a decent amount of behind-the-scenes time even if they turned the explanation into a song and dance routine.

@@KirkIronz That it's their job is all the more reason to spend that time efficiently rather than working on redundant tests. Steve has been open about how he doesn't feel their current schedule is realistic in the long term. If they are to continue producing their current level of quality output that means that they need to cut the fat wherever they can.

I buy all of my PC desktop computer parts directly from EVGA when possible, and from Amazon when EVGA is out of stock. Corsair is worthy of mention here because their RAM and peripheral products are outstanding, and their customer service is also very good especially in regards to RAM. I only mention these companies because I think that people that are building their own PCs should get some input from others in the community. Thanks always to Gamers Nexus for their informative and helpful videos.

My number came up in the EVGA queue yesterday and I bought this card without a second thought. $100 over the FE card is well worth it IMHO. Better overclocking headroom, RGB lighting, near silent operation, superior 3-year factory warranty that covers modding and transfers to the second owner, and amazing EVGA customer support. It's a no brainer to buy this card.
I wanted FE, because I feel like $700 is the most I wanted to spend, best aesthetics & I had bb gift cards. Missed/messed up bb checkout & now it’s stupid store pickup that is even harder with availability now. Tuf & strix are always gone too. Was getting frustrated. Ended up catching a ftw3 ultra & used bb gift cards on other things. Sold some other things to cover the $110 difference. Nice that it got 450w bios. Will probably build this weekend to finally do cyberpunk. Past cards have been evga that resold easily due to transferable warranty. Even did step up b4. Definitely best cs & company. Probably #2 oc card but with cs, $40 cheaper than strix/better rgb/2 slot sff, it’s a good #1 choice. Seem to get to 2/3 performance of 3090 so probably close to 3080ti for $1k and can be 10 FPS above FE.

Amazing review. All the technical information you would want and more.
Looking at the fans got me to question how the use of a counter rotating middle fan changes the noise level, characteristics and airflow. Asus has used that on at least some of their graphics cards where the middle fan counter rotates claiming it lowers the noise and makes for better airflow.
I've worked a lot with servers where counter rotating fans are very common, but there they are always used in a package with a counter rotating fan behind a normally rotating fan. In this configuration they support higher static pressure than if they were both spinning the same way. However I can't say they are particularly silent. It's also common that fans has a stator behind the fan as a cheaper and more compact alternative, again it is said to increase the static pressure and airflow, and again I can't claim to have noticed them being quieter but rather I feel they are noisier than a similar fan without the stator.
This makes me wonder how Asus claims really measures up. It would be interesting to know if all three fans on the RTX 3090 TUF has the same specs apart from the middle one counter rotating. If so then an interesting test would be to replace the middle fan with one identical to the other two and compare both the cooling and the sound.
One thing about the counter rotating fan is that if there is significant leakage of air from the edge of the fans into the airflow of the fan beside it then the noise profile should change when using a counter rotating fan in the middle, cutting the amplitude of the very high end of the noise and adding some to the lower end. At least if it works as I believe. However I don't know how the average noise volume would be changed. However if the fans are partitioned so the airflow interference is minimized then there shouldn't be a noticeable difference.
According to this it seems like the TUF is better in almost every regard. That's a little disappointing considering the premium EVGA is asking. :(

So for normal use, the FTW3 chugs 60W more than the TUF or Eagle (340 vs 400) for no performance increase?
I mean, that could be the difference between needing a 600-650W PSU and a 700-750W.
Given that you can find a TUF for FE MSRP, buy a TUF. If you'll NEVER overclock and can't find a TUF anyway, buy can an Eagle.
For extreme OC, you probably want a Strix anyway. Failing that, probably a TUF (although I await the Buildzoid breakdown of the FTW3).
Looks to me like the FTW3 is only really for water cooling and/or more OC tinkering (more than most users who are willing to OC, less than 'extreme').
this is where benchmarks would have helped. Not sure it’s “no performance increase”. He’s making the point that we should not care about 3-5fps, only about quality of life metrics such as noise and temps.
I had an XC3 which I overclocked, now an FTW3 which when overlocked got me from 53 fps to 58+ fps. And I do care about that, irrational or not.
The enthusiasts have always chased down “marginal” performance gains.

AFAIK a lower more consistent clock doesn't give more performance than a higher less consistent clock.
Especially not when the lows of the less stable frequency are still higher than the consistent frequency.
I mean my FTW3 Ultra has the best score on 3D mark for my CPU. I’m cruising at 2100 MHz with the 450w bios and OCing up to a barely stable 2174 MHz +190 clock and +1200 mem which I doubt would be possible with less than 450w

@@InternetEntity I also am at 2100 or so consistent on air on the new bios. I think GN tested with no increase to power limit from stock. Which I’d argue people buying this card are buying it in large part because of the extra power that allows them to achieve high stable clocks.
Also, GN noted they set a world record for OC using the FTW3. They just aren’t using OC data.

I'm contemplating building around the x570 when the the new Ryzen 5000 series CPUs arrive. As far as I have seen, no one has put a video out of a build with all Gen 4 components. ( 3000 series graphic card, gen 4 M.2, Ryzen CPU ) and the proper speed ram to take advantage of it all. I would love to know if I build my new PC around all Gen 4 , will it be worth it?

I ended up getting an EVGA Gforce RTX 2070 Super and then I am stepping up to the EVGA FTW3 3080. I am already in a queue. This way I know I will get a 3080 eventually and not have to worry much about it. I can also do some nice gaming in the meantime. This 2070 is a huge step up from what I had. I had a Nvidea 945M on a laptop.

ASUS put out a new bios for the TUF the other day that apparently increases the power limit to 450W. i hope we see some testing
don’t think that’s even possible with only dual 8 pins? I think dual 8 pins maxes around 380? Could be wrong but don’t think it can get to 450.
@@supervelous 150 per 8 pin and 75 from the PCI-E slot. Asus has been smoking crack lately
@@christophervanzetta two 8pins can go 450w. It's just stability that's the issue. Ik someone who flashed their 3080 Giga OC with the ftw3 ultra 450w bios. Hits 450w on benchmarks but he was getting a lower score than before. Bios just might not be as compatible with his card. Who knows.

In Australia, it’s only $30 more for the ftw3 ultra compared to the ftw3 ($1260 instead of $1230). That makes it $150-$200 cheaper than the rest of the 3080’s

To say it personally. I think the FTW3 is such an ugly card.
My Favorite is the Tuf.
gotta say from the front it isn’t the best looking card and the red lips on it are horrible. But from the side its fine, where most people will view it from. The lightbar is nice, and it also has a nice backplate. You don’t see the fan side when mounted. I certainly wouldn’t vertical mount it though.
Hey, I was the first to make fun of it, but when mine actually came in it's pretty damn slick and built extremely well.
Mounted in the case and from the side it's one of the best looking cards ever thanks to the quality of the LEDs used.
