Make sure it's formatted as an FAT32 drive. Try using another USB drive - not all are compatible with the Wii. Make sure you've got it plugged into the correct port - please see the video. If nothing works it might be that your usb port isn't working.
I'm assuming the WiiU works in a similar way. You need to generate a WAD file to create a link to the game in USBLoader. I think there are other videos on how to do this.

I'd start by checking you've got everything set up correctly. If some work it might be some of your game files are bad.
Have a look at gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-install-cios-on-vwii-backup-nand-and-keys.339890/ If you've got it working from USB stick it might also be a compatibility issue with your HDD. Hope you get it going!

Hello! I would love some help if possible. I followed your last video about modding a Wii. Then I followed this one to add games. After I did everything in the video, my Wii goes to a black screen when I turn it on, and I cannot connect my remote anymore. I have the black wii, so I cannot go to recovery mode. Do you know what I should do?
I'd first take out the SD card and USB drive and see if that lets it boot. Next check your video / hdmi connections. Did you install PriiLoader. Put the SD card back in and power off the Wii. Hold the reset button while you power on and see if it boots into Priiloader. If all this fails a common problem to give you the black screen is a failed Bluetooth module. This needs you to open up the Wii and replace a module. There are videos online to show you how to do this. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your help! I tried booting it without the SD card or USB drive, but no change. The connections and cords are all good. I modded my Wii exactly like you said in this video and the previous one about modding said to. So yes I installed Priiloader. I am able to get into Priiloader by powering it up the way you described, but my remote will not connect to allow me to make changes in HomeBrew. Does that sound like the Bluetooth chip or a different problem?
@@michaelstrautmann8953 It does sound like the controller can't talk to the Wii. First try another controller if you can. Are you using an official Nintendo remote or a third party one? Some of the third party ones can be hit and miss. having said that the Wii should at least boot up even if there are no remotes available. If you still can't get it to boot I think the Bluetooth module would be the first thing to look at.
Yes. Nintendo and a few others threatened legal action against a number of rom sites so they took a lot of the games offline. You'll have to have a look around online and see if you can find some sort of "ROMs megathread" resource. Good luck.
Check you've got the files and folder names correct. Did you use the Wii Backup manager to copy the files to USB? If that's all OK try running the game files in Dolphin to make sure they are OK. Make sure you've got the cIOS drivers installed. If all else fails try re installing the USB loader. I hope this helps.
I’m stuck somewhere similar aswell, when I download a game from vimm and try to put it into backup manager it doesn’t submit as a wbfs format i think mine as well ends in a Tz format how do I format to wbfs?
I tried this and I can launch USB Loader GX, but I can't exit it. When I try to go from it to the Wii system menu all I get is a black screen and I have to power the Wii off to get back to the Wii menu.
That seems strange. Can you get back to the Homebrew screen rather than the Wii Menu? I'd probably try adding a game to see if that helps. If still no joy try deleting it all off your sd card and reinstalling. But just guessing here!
First, I ended up testing with a game and that didn't help the issue and I also couldn't get to the homebrew menu either. I accidentally figured out the issue though! I had the USB drive I wanted to use to test games with plugged in and it had an empty wbfs folder. I happened to unplug it one of the times I rebooted and no issues accessing the Wii menu. Kept it unplugged and put a game on the SD card. No issues, game worked! Switched the USB external hard drive I planned on using after my tests and no issues either! Not sure why it didn't like the USB drive (with and without games on it) but all is working now!! Thanks for the great video! @BytesNBits
I was able to put Sonic Heroes on USB Loader GX but only through SD Card. Would this be theoretically possible to put on the external SSD if I added a folder for that file type?

It sounds like backup manager isn't recognising your game files. Make sure you extract them out of any archive file so you have the actual wbfs files. If that's all ok try installing the dolphin emulator and trying a couple of rom files to see if they work. Hope this helps.
Edit: Nevermind. I had 2 microSD of the same name. I don't have a Windows OC so I used my Chromebook laptop. I've done everything other than using the program for wbfs so I manually edited each files and put them into separate folders. Following this tutorial, while matching the same settings in the USB Loader, my Wii doesn't detect the USB Drive (it still shows 0.0GB of 0.0GB free at the bottom)
I'm not sure what you've done. Did you install Priiloader? if so power on whilst holding in the reset button. This should get you into Priiloader so you can start to recover the system.
Can the WAD manager see your storage device? Does the device work Ok in the rest of the Wii hack? If the files are there in the correct format it should be able to open it up.
sorry y'all that I kept disturbing you guys, but I have a situation. I'm using SWNW01 Super Mario Bros Wii to put on USB loader GX. I used cleanrip to pull the related iso files, and combined it by cmd, then used the Wii backup manager to turn the combined iso to wbfs, then I started World 1-4, and the game crashed every single time (further context: the game DOES load, but always crashes whenever i try to beat a level, or crashes when i start another level, oddly enough, toad houses and enemies from the Mario navigation map don't crash) I have swapped the flash drive to use an external hard drive, updated USBloader GX several times, the CIOS was changed from "v10 beta52 d2x-v10-beta52" to "d2x-v11-beta1", enabling the NAND saves emluation to put saves to my USB(which caused my previous saves to be gone, but that's fine),re-ripped the game 3 times, but still the issue still persists Some people told me that usb type c may have caused the game to crash, is it true
If you put the USB drive back in your PC you can check if the files are still there. If they are it might be that USBLoader is hiding them. Use the file type selection menu option at the top of the screen and make sure the check box for Wii games is ticked.

@ I have 7-zip but idk if I’m extracting the files right. When I put them in my usb and use wii backup, they don’t show up like yours did
Hi...Followed all your steps, all the games show up but when I go into a game and press start it throws me back to the Homebrew channel. All games are loaded on to the usb as your instructions. Feeling bit confused. Can you help please 🙏
Cheers
You can try this other version - th-cam.com/video/8RdwHT3C16E/w-d-xo.html. It will install a fuller range of cIOS and other software which may help get you round the problem.
I am just wondering how to put games on the usb and how it works.
I have tried one game, Mario, when I want to start the game, it redirects me to homebrew channel.
Did you use the Wii Backup Manager app to create your games drive? You need that to package things up for you. If it's still not working you probably have a cIOS file issue. Have a look at this video to get a full set of cIOS files installed. th-cam.com/video/8RdwHT3C16E/w-d-xo.html
My files are stuck as .7Z files, and I don't know how to convert them or fix it
If you're on a pc use an app called 7-zip
@@BytesNBits Should I just format them to regular zip files, as wbsf isn't an option? I'm sorry for asking you for tech support. Your tutorial has helped immensely with getting my Wii homebrewed and set up :)

Do the file names have the correct extension? Make sure you unzip any archives if the files have been compressed. Download the Dolphin emulator and try the files in that to make sure they are working rom dumps. Hope this helps.
How can I make it stick these settings all the time. Everytime I load in, I have to re apply these settings for it to pick up the games
I had a similar problem with one of my ssd drives. I found that powering down the system made the SSD fail to initialise on boot up. Leaving it in standby mode (press the power button on the WiiMote) worked.
mine works fine when i first start the wii, i can load GX and play the games. but as soon as i exit a game the it brings me back to the loader it fails to load the games on the USB despite knowing a USB is attached?
That's an odd one. I guess something is not shutting down correctly but I've not come across this error before. Have you had a look through the troubleshooting guide?
For some reason I am not able to see any of the Gamecube iso games or WII wbsf games. I did everything correctly. Did correct labeling and folders but games not showing up. Everything is left at default settings so nothing is changed. Any help?
Make sure USB Loader can see your drive. Go to the settings page and make sure you've got the right storage selected.
Hi, I have my game files backed up and they used to work but for some reason now when I press the start button on the game load screen it doesn't react, and then I need to shut down because it wont even let me exit that screen.Any advice?
I'm not sure why it would stop working. is the USB drive OK? Can you read it in your PC?
it says that the wii backup intaller wants to make changes to my device to run. Should i let it?
If you've followed the links in the video that will take you to a reputable download. Still make sure that you've got your anti virus and firewall protection enabled.
@@BytesNBits it works but when i change the installer changed to my fat32 it wont let me leave the global settings

Make sure it's formatted as an FAT32 drive. Try using another USB drive - not all are compatible with the Wii. Make sure you've got it plugged into the correct port - please see the video. If nothing works it might be that your usb port isn't working.
Im having a problem where i load up the USBLoader and its just the menu where you load the game but with no buttons or nothing
I'd try reinstall the app and make sure your games files are all installed correctly using the backup manager.
@@BytesNBits I just ended up swapping what I was using for everything and it worked fine! Thanks though!
how do you add games on the wii u's wii menu???
I'm assuming the WiiU works in a similar way. You need to generate a WAD file to create a link to the game in USBLoader. I think there are other videos on how to do this.
@@BytesNBits Thank you🫡
so when i try to load a game from the loader my screen just goes black and essentially freezes. i have all the cIOS installed. the problem might be that im using a usb stick and not external but im not trying to download any big games. i did games under a GB so that i could test it on my stick before i actually buy something bigger. any suggestions?
It's usually either the cIOS or some settings in the USBLoader app. I did have a similar issue that ended up being the 480p fix setting. Can't rember if it had to be on or off. but have a look in there.
Vimm's Liar doesn't work anymore. Is there any alternatives???
Yes. Nintendo and a few others have been pressurising some of the top rom sites to remove a lot of content. Try a search for rom megathread. It might be useful.
how would I put WiiWare WADs into this backup manager?
I haven't looked into WiiWare yet. Maybe later.
For some reason, clicking "Game/Install Partition" gets me stuck on this menu and it still says "Not Initialized" after a while.
Try powering down the Wii and trying again. If it's still not seeing the drive maybe try a different USB drive - not all are fully compatible.
My back up on the top left corner is green and says finished but nothing is happening
Can you check to see if the backup is completed? Did it generate the files?
Having an issue with the dx2 cios with it saying timeout and i checked your first modding wii video out and someone else had the same issue so you put the link to the other method that didnt require d2x cios installer and used yawm instead but now this video requires d2x and i tried again with no luck any other way to getting around it?
If you've gone through the ModMiii video you should have everything you need for USBLoader. It should have installed all the cIOS files.
@BytesNBits thank you. You're a legend. Everything worked perfectly gonna be following your nintedont guide soon!
@@Rippinpackstcg Great! Have fun!
when i add games (as files) to wii backup manager, it says adding files 100% and finished to the right side but doesnt come up as a checkbox like in the video. Note that i downloaded from vimms lair and they are formatted as winrar files for some reason
Update, i found a way to convert it into a wbsf file but i still get the same problem, when i check the logs it says "invalid partition header" and "invalid disc", could you help me?
It sounds like either the disc image is corrupt or your USB drive isn't formatted correctly.

Downloading covers straight from USBLoaderGX seemed like it would be great but is unfortunately not working for me. Getting the error, "files not found on server." Using Wifi. Luckily there is a way to download them from Wii Backup Manager.
Yes. That will work fine.

Glad you found it useful.
My Wii was working for a good few days, but today while trying to play the screen keeps getting stuck on the usbloader loading screen. Any tips maybe?
Okay I figured out that my Wii isn’t connecting to the internet for sum reason. Can I just reconnect on another connection and retype in the dns or restart the entire thing?
Just set up your wifi connection again using the normal settings. You only need the exploit dns servers for the actual hack.
@@BytesNBits figured out the actual problem. My usb corrupted somehow but thank you for the info regardless
why don't my games work? I start them and they just send me to me Wii main home menu
Make sure you've got all the cIOS files installed. If that all checks out try a different usb drive. Some aren't compatible.
can you do this with just usb and no sd card?
Yes. Have a look at my ModMii video - th-cam.com/video/8RdwHT3C16E/w-d-xo.html

I use a mechanical laptop drive on mine powered from the usb port. Not sure if a full sized one will work but give it a go. SSD is fine.
amazing video but, where can I find those videogames tho? Where I find the link to download them on the pc so I can transfer them on the usb/driver?
They are getting a bit harder to find these days as Nintendo have recently been closing down rom sites. Have a look around in Archive.org.

I figured out how to do everything but the website you gave only downloads 2MB per second. On steam and other things i get around 50MB per second, is there a fix to this?
Unfortunately not. The download speed is limited at the server end. Bandwidth costs the site owner money so I guess they need to limit how much people can download otherwise they'd have to start charging.

It's just a matter of searching around.
Do you reckon you could help i got the game in the usb loader but but i click on it nothing happens, i can still move the cursor around but nothing happens and the only way to exit and fix it is by unplugging the wii
I'd start by checking you've got everything set up correctly. CIOS installed and set up, game files copied to your USB through the backup manager, etc. If that's all ok try a couple of different games. If none work you might have to reinstall USB loader. If some work it might be some of your game files are bad.

Have a look at gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-install-cios-on-vwii-backup-nand-and-keys.339890/
If you've got it working from USB stick it might also be a compatibility issue with your HDD. Make sure it's formatted as FAT32 and make sure it's got enough power to run (SSD and laptop drives will run from the USB port - standard mechanical drives may need an extra power input). Hope you get it going!
i have question. my old wii console is version 4.1U, and it already have homebrew channel, neogamma, and uloader installed (i think it was installed by the seller). will this guide still work ?

Can this be done all on a usd drive instead of a sd card?
Yes. Just put everything onto the USB drive using the same folder structure.
i came here looking for a way to use both the usb and sd card to hold games. i had one file on both devices. i can't find a way to use them both at the same time but what i do is keep all the mods and other files on sd card and have wbfs games on usb. if your games aren't showing up on usb go into hard drive settings and turn of sd card mode. thats what i did and my usb game files showed up.
Thanks for the tip. That's how I set mine up as well.

Hi, ive downloaded the same files as you, but sadly, idk why, i cant see the d2x custom ios installer like yours... for reference, im using a USB stick FAT32 ... why is it doing that ?
I'm not sure why you'd get different or missing files. Check you've gone through all the steps correctly.
@@BytesNBits That makes sense! I will try it. Thank you so much for your help!
I went to Vimm's Lair but almost all the games don't allow downloading
Yes. Nintendo and a few others threatened legal action against a number of rom sites so they took a lot of the games offline. You'll have to have a look around online and see if you can find some sort of "ROMs megathread" resource. Good luck.
@BytesNBits thank you, what do you think about roms games?
When I try to play a game it just forces me back to the homebrew menu how do I stop this
Check you've got the files and folder names correct. Did you use the Wii Backup manager to copy the files to USB? If that's all OK try running the game files in Dolphin to make sure they are OK. Make sure you've got the cIOS drivers installed. If all else fails try re installing the USB loader. I hope this helps.
@@BytesNBits I figured it out yesterday but thank you for the guide
Whenever I download a game I says the file type is TZ, how do I fix this?
TZ files are just compressed files. Use WinRAR to open it and extract the Wii files.
@BytesNBits
I cant get in the app from the win64 where do i have to click?
You'll need to unzip the Backup Manager files and there should be an executable in there.
how do i actually get the games onto the usb>?
You need to use the Wii Backup Manager app to copy the games over. You can do it without but it's much much harder.
I was able to put Sonic Heroes on USB Loader GX but only through SD Card. Would this be theoretically possible to put on the external SSD if I added a folder for that file type?
Yes. Make sure you use the Backup Manager to copy the game files. It needs to set up filenames and folders for you.
Mine keeps saying usb is not initialized, but it is. Its fat 32 and all files are correct format and named
Are you plugging the usb drive into the correct port. Sometimes you need to select the driver in the usb loader settings page to get it to register.
@BytesNBits finally got it. I have to separate my gamecube iso and wii wbfs between sd and usb drive. Weird but it's working flawless. Thanks for the helpful video!

sorry y'all that I kept disturbing you guys, but I have a situation. I'm using SWNW01 Super Mario Bros Wii to put on USB loader GX. I used cleanrip to pull the related iso files, and combined it by cmd, then used the Wii backup manager to turn the combined iso to wbfs, then I started World 1-4, and the game crashed every single time (further context: the game DOES load, but always crashes whenever i try to beat a level, or crashes when i start another level, oddly enough, toad houses and enemies from the Mario navigation map don't crash)
I have swapped the flash drive to use an external hard drive, updated USBloader GX several times, the CIOS was changed from "v10 beta52 d2x-v10-beta52" to "d2x-v11-beta1", enabling the NAND saves emluation to put saves to my USB(which caused my previous saves to be gone, but that's fine),re-ripped the game 3 times, but still the issue still persists
Some people told me that usb type c may have caused the game to crash, is it true
Have you tried downloading a version of the game to see if it's your rom dump or the Wii homebrew that's causing the issue.
Can you just use a usb or do u need both
You can just use USB. Just copy the apps folder over to your USB drive.
I love your channel, I've used your guides to help mod several consoles. Do you know a way to play gameboy games on your modded Wii??

If you put the USB drive back in your PC you can check if the files are still there. If they are it might be that USBLoader is hiding them. Use the file type selection menu option at the top of the screen and make sure the check box for Wii games is ticked.
The Wii check box is checked and the files are in the drive.
Awesome video, thanks! Just started getting into this, I already have your gc video up as well and am ready to get everything running. I was having an issue with installing the d2x cios installer. Thank you so much for all of your help! These videos have been a godsend! Can I transfer the game files to the usb drive manually? I currently have no access to a windows computer, so I'm stuck with my chromebook. My game files are already in the wbfs format. Thank you again!
I think you need to use a specific folder and filename convention. It will probably be detailed somewhere on the web. You can always just try copying the files into the wbfs folder and see what happens.
Absolutely FANTASTIC video. Thanks so much for making something so daunting so easy to follow! :)
