Just get the Mayflash or Electron Sheppard converters. They’re cheap and give a better visual than any of these. Won’t be as good as a RetroTink 5x or properly setup OSSC, but they’re a lot cheaper

3:29 yep, that's me! I have a Panasonic PVM which takes RGB over BNC. I have a wii RGB SCART cable and a female scart to BNC cable. Looks great. I also have a composite to HDMI adaptor to use with the standard wii composite cables and connect to an HD TV or if I want to loop out of the monitor to feed into my Elgato capture card and stream while playing on CRT.
I recently got the Portholic adapter for a friend and it worked pretty much as described in this video (even through an HDMI switcher). It definitely is more than good enough for my friend who is a casual gamer. I will note that, while these adapters work well enough, they are the “quick and dirty” way to get your Wii running on modern displays. The BEST way is to use good quality, preferably shielded component cables (HD Retrovision, etc.) or RGB SCART cable (Retro Gaming Cables, etc.) and a scaler like the GBS-C, OSSC, or RetroTink 5X. Those three scalers are price order from lowest to highest. I have a GBS-C from AliExpress with the blue case and it is fantastic on my 4K TV. Does it make GameCube and Wii look as clean as emulation does? No. But it upscales to 1080p and looks so much better than any HDMI adapter. The HDMI mod is also a great option, again if you’re willing to shell out the money or if you have moderate to extensive soldering expertise. A third option is to get a Wii U. It’s not the best quality for playing Wii games but it’ll get the job done and you’ll have native HDMI without any sketchy adapters or expensive mods.
Have had WII to HDMI for years & Idk which one it is. But with a TV upscaler built in its huge difference. It looks better than when playing Wii games on the Wii U, which upscales them to 720 the TV says. So the adapters don’t always upscale, but they give you an HDMI option. But I was so happy when I first got an HDMI Wii adapter its a night and day difference. The text, graphics, clarity are not 480 thats fer sure. I cant speak on these adapters.
What about the Electron-Warp from Electron Shepherd? I have it, and it is better than any adapters I've tested. Thanks for the video and the deatails explaining. Hope to see an opinion about this one.
I would enjoy getting my hands on the electron shepherd but the postage price is higher than the price of the adapter to the UK . So unfortunately I am unable to do so
Most if not all game consoles do that, way back to the NES and before that even. Native HDMI mods are theoretically possible on any console from the NES forward, from what I know, as long as the digital signals are exposed on the board. Some consoles have the video DAC integrated with the GPU in one chip, those are often not as easy to mod or are not possible at all. Although, it usually is easier to just use a basic analog to HDMI adapter instead of doing an internal mod.
A great video. First a Brit so we can see how this applies for PAL users AND for people who just want a decent picture but aren't obsessed with getting the most perfect picture (for cost or other reasons).
i’m in an airbnb with a wii, and when we try and use it, it’s split screen and black and white. my brother ordered one of these, i really hope it works!!
Thank you for the video my friend, I have a question, to obtain an image quality like 0:11 do you need the AUTOUTLET Wii to HDMI Converter + the upscaler?
I mean if your TV is pretty new there should be a feature called AV Input. All you need is a AV input adapter which could cost 5 to 15 dollars. My TCL TV has this input and I bought the tv in 2020. I have tried a converter box just out of curiosity. The AV Input is pretty damn good. I tried it with my n64. It even applied the hertz of the television so it felt smoother than the traditional feel and looked great. I still have a RCA HDTV from 2006 that has the AV jack inputs and it still works great, but on a modern TV I was impressed.
I bought one of those Wii2Hdmi but black. It gets its job done, both audio and video wise. It had its weird moments, though: the first time the screen became green, returned back to normal and downscaled to 4:3, returned back to normal and in the end it became black, and once again everything got back to normal after few seconds; the second time it switched back and forth from normal to full green screen for few times, then everything got back to normal; everytime the tv is off and the console is on, the image takes a while before appearing when the tv is turned on.
Have any of you tried the ElectronWarp Wii to HDMI adapter? It is also supposed to be lagless and apparently produces really good results. I have yet to try it myself but I thought it was worth mentioning.
How does playing Wii games on a Wii U via the Wii U's HDMI out compare to the converters? I figured that was going to be shown when i saw the Wii U in the backround
I use component cables through to an Aliexpress Component to HDMI converter. Hands down, 10 times better than those composite to HDMI boxes or the Wii2HDMI I have a very modern TV and it picks up 480p no worries. Most TVs have an option to rescale the image, which I use to get the image back to 4:3 Total cost was about 15$ USD using new user promo. There's better options, but I doubt for that price. I'd say those Wii2HDMI adapters use composite signal, that's why they're trash. Thanks for comparing multiple options in a single video !
cool video but somehow I do prefer the component-5 setup. I got a 2018 50" Hisense TV and it supports component which is awesome. The clerk at the game store I got my Wii from recommended me a component cable with gold plated connectors and honestly I believe that it gets me the best possible image, never trusted these HDMI converters too much.
So the previous generation, the GameCube had an external digital port which can directly connect to one of many available HDMI adaptors, the the WII does not? Does the WII-U play WII games?
Great video, thanks for sharing! Really detailed and well thought out! Looking forward to getting one of my own :), I’m still deciding as to which one.. By the way, what games are you playing on 12:49 and 14:08?
I've been reading people that are saying that the Mayflash version it's better, others, that Hyperkin wired version it's great, another ones saying Electron Shepherd it's excellent (Also, I read at their website this quote "This is the new name of Wii2HDMI! It's the same product. The product you receive may have the old logo and name while it is still in stock, but they are identical"... And here Auotolet looks like a pretty good option, so I don't know which adapter should I buy... Hahaha, but anyway, this helped me to discard the other adapters of the video.
On Amazon there's the autolet that you recommended, but also one without the extra tail. Do you think there's a difference in quality between them/ which is better?
as someone who really cares about image quality and has hdmi modded a bunch of consoles i wouldnt buy any of these but i would recommend the 'electron warp' from electron shepard they make great quality stuff and its a cheap and easy way to get hdmi on your wii
Cool, just in time. By the way is there a kind of factory reset for the black asian version Wiimote w/ Motion Plus Inside? It won't recognize the black Nunchuk which works on the white Wiimote w/ Motion Plus Inside controller. God bless.
If I’m in the U.S., & I buy the Autolet from you, will it work with my American Wii? & is there nowhere else I can buy it cheaper in USD so I don’t have to convert that to Pounds & pay extra for shipping from the UK?
This video is great. I recently got a new smart TV that has video and component inputs. I tried the Wii, and the video quality was not too great. I've used the Xbox 360 in video and the quality was pretty good. The Wii menu on the Wii U looked great. My Wii's quality is stuck on 480i, and I can't select 480p. I was hoping that an HDMI adapter would make it selectable somehow. I wouldn't mind using Autoutlet if it's available on American Amazon or eBay.
@@rightspritegaming This is a very late response, but I have the Autoutlet. The quality and audio are amazing, but the screen is always displayed in 4:3 by default. So I always have to zoom it in manually, but it does seem fitting for some GameCube games, though. In all, it's amazing!
Do the USBloader video settings change the whole console or just games run through the USBloader. I want it to change the whole console but I can't find anything to say if it does or not.
Amazing video, I'm using right now component (was lucky enough to get OEM from Ebay) and same converter, if i found your video before i wasn't buying this bad Wii2HDMI adapters which were giving this write lines, i firstly thought my wii had a problem with video signal, but no, it was just bad hdmi
@@rightspritegaming Many virtual console games run at 240p. Quite a few modern televisions no longer support this resolution, so if the adapter simply passes through that signal, you won't get a display output.
@@Anthestudios I'm pretty sure that these games have a controller combo of some sort to enable 480i, and I would think that they would recognize 480p if enabled in the Wii menu.

Hey i bought a composite cable before seeing your video. Is the composite cable the reason my wii isnt displaying colour red? or is that a problem with the Wii Av cable itself. Just want to know which part to rebuy thanks!!
I have the firsr genaric wii2hdmi adapter you showed and a old crappy 720p tv and it does actually output 1080p bc the tv says “the signal is too high resolution” but when i use the component cables and 480p it works fine. I wanted to point this out bc you said it does not output 1080p

Can you make a video testing a wii with the latest models of smart tvs with 4k upscale?
My Autoulet Wii I think is defective because it doesn't work anymore. Even if I take off the M classic, I tried connecting it with a bunch of different HDMI wires and still doesn't work. I wish there was a way to fix this but I guess not
i was using a cheap wii2hdmi for 6 years and just changed to the portholic one as per your recomendation of this video.. neither of them show the white specs that you experienced in this video..
Did you notice any significant amount of lag with the Autoutlet one? Or was it a normal amount of lag? And also wanted to thank for your detailed video, was really helpful!
Hi. congratulations for the video. I bought autlel HDMI converter and I had with common white adapter any artifacts in any letters and images with my mcable gaming, I haven't mclassic adapter. Do you have any artifacts? Thanks
And for the record, NO Wii2HDMI adapter gives as good quality as the Official Nintendo component cables going directly to a TV that supports them! None. Your results were skewed because you used 3rd party component cables and used a converter box. *Bottom line: If your TV supports component cables, get the official Nintendo component cables as it is better quality than ANYTHING in this video. The ONLY way to do better is to hard mod your Wii to have an HDMI signal directly from the GPU. Good luck with that mod.*
Um... Why do people think official component cables look better than third party? It's still component and you're just mixing up composite and component
good morning, I use the white wii2hdmi adapter and I notice that almost imperceptible lines move, I don't remember if they were visible even with the scart. I'm on a 4k uhd tv, maybe it's just the graphics of the wii which aren't very clean because it's an old console?
I had a Samsung 3d smart tv, the Wii image on it looked so sharp with the TV's built in upscaling... I would see many people say the best wii image is on a CRT but I think they'd change their minds if they saw what I had back then. Textures and images looked HD, basically. Even some of the games' aliasing were mitigated in the process. I eventually upgraded to a better, 4k Samsung TV. The issue is the upscaling on that TV sucked compared to the previous, resulting in an image that, even with sharpness on max, it would still look blurry. Colors were a bit better but the overall tradeoff was not at all worth it. Maybe one day I can find another TV with good upscaling and set up my good old wii to mess with games, game mods, emulators and homebrew shenanigans again. Meanwhile, I don't have the time to do those things anymore.
I have that first one (White with blue text) and what I noticed is that it actually only has diagonal lines when using 480p instead of 480i My tv can handle both so I'm obviously using the 480i since there is no noise for my tv there. I never had the noise specs show up on my tv so that might be a case by case thing. As you mentioned, it might be sth with the cables.. idk xD (Update: I weirdly haven't gotten the diagonal (on 480p) lines after changing the aspect ratio (in the WII settings) to 4:3 and then back to 16:9, been sitting in front of my tv for a good 15 minutes now without them showing up again)
I appreciate the depth of this video and its idea, BUT, i think leaving out component to HDMI is the hit to this video. Most if not all direct "ps2tohdmi" or "wii2hdmi" utilize composite inputs (ive even gone as far as spending $30/$35 and still would get composite results which $30-$35 is a bit much for such a thing considering the cables are $5-$15 on avg depending if you want OEM or not) I am gonna try component to HDMI as opposed to WII2HDMI, which will make the setup ugly but i dont wanna spend $100+ looking for the right WII2HDMI.
@@gamecubeplayer hmmm, maybe your right and im doing something wrong but idk how. I have tested multiple PS2 ones and i pretty much always get worse results than whats ever shown on youtube or alot of the reviews on the product. My PS2 has FMCB and i cant use the GSMsynthesizer at all, ive done all different settings and i feel like i just dont have as clear of an image like everyone else. But a actual component to HDMI ive seen photos of it looking extremely crisp like more crisp than the PS2toHDMIs. Ill be getting a actual component to HDMI but that compromises alot of space and will make my setup uglier than it already is 🤣 but a great thing is i found one that allows for 2 inputs so i can have my wii and PS2 in the same component2hdmi and a press of a button will switch between the 2 inputs.

A third option is to get a Wii U. It’s not the best quality for playing Wii games but it’ll get the job done and you’ll have native HDMI without any sketchy adapters or expensive mods.
the wii doesn't support 480p over rgb scart & the wii u vwii hdmi is worse than wii component
I brought cheap wii to hdmi works great.
ooff bad idea :P. but if it works for you thats all good
i got the Hyperkin HD Cable for Wii, it has been good for me. would be interesting to see you compare it to these
Just found my old wii and was looking for an hdmi adapter and found your channel great video and channel and great information
Thank you happy to help
Mine just came in the mail, so i was wondering which one worked for you?
Have had WII to HDMI for years & Idk which one it is. But with a TV upscaler built in its huge difference.
It looks better than when playing Wii games on the Wii U, which upscales them to 720 the TV says.
So the adapters don’t always upscale, but they give you an HDMI option.
But I was so happy when I first got an HDMI Wii adapter its a night and day difference.
The text, graphics, clarity are not 480 thats fer sure.
I cant speak on these adapters.
So you don't know what you use, and don't know about any others. What's the point of your comment?
What about the Electron-Warp from Electron Shepherd? I have it, and it is better than any adapters I've tested. Thanks for the video and the deatails explaining. Hope to see an opinion about this one.
I would enjoy getting my hands on the electron shepherd but the postage price is higher than the price of the adapter to the UK . So unfortunately I am unable to do so
@@rightspritegaming so sad. Thanks for answering.
funny how the wii creates a digital image, converts it to an analog signal, just for us to convert it back into digital.
If y'all really want too play a Wii In HD I suggest a saving up for a Wii U or use the may flash on dolphin emulator
💯⚡👊
I bought a portta component to hdmi converter and it has a lot of noise interference. Definitely gonna give the autoutlet converter a try.
they recently swapped out the components for cheaper parts it really sucks
@@sunspot5which got cheaper components? The port or autoutlet?
@@4selcuk portta
Yes porta sucks , i bought it and returned then bought a generic one and works great!
A great video. First a Brit so we can see how this applies for PAL users AND for people who just want a decent picture but aren't obsessed with getting the most perfect picture (for cost or other reasons).
My go to for Wii has recently been using a Wii U, since that sends out 1080 through the HDMI cable in Wii mode.
But no GameCube support. That's a sad thing. Maybe it's worth buying a Wii U for the older Wii games!
@@cjeelde homebrew
Im green with envy of that jungle green wii shell.... I wish aliexpress still had those instead of only red and blue
The best tv to use with the wii is the rca true flat tv (big back) tv from 2001... amazing picture
That would be great,
i’m in an airbnb with a wii, and when we try and use it, it’s split screen and black and white. my brother ordered one of these, i really hope it works!!
Thank you for the video my friend, I have a question, to obtain an image quality like 0:11 do you need the AUTOUTLET Wii to HDMI Converter + the upscaler?
Need this for Original Xbox and PS2 next! This has been super informative!
I just got the Level Hike cable for PS1 and PS2, would thoroughly recommend.
@@robinboyns2753 I just created a Video for the Ps2 --- th-cam.com/video/TtXd-8ntUxo/w-d-xo.html
Retrotink 5x pro. And you need to disable the filters via custom rom.
I'm using a component cable. But 1 made by Monster cables. Highest quality I've ever had for the Wii. But its hard to find
I have a wiidual installed and use an mclassic as well. It looks really good
I mean if your TV is pretty new there should be a feature called AV Input.
Great product. When buying this, you help real engineer who truly care about making the best products without any compromise.
How does playing Wii games on a Wii U via the Wii U's HDMI out compare to the converters? I figured that was going to be shown when i saw the Wii U in the backround
When you dont have the scanlines probably you will get extra input lag cos some chip has to clear those lines
Hi! Very good video it helped a lot! Btw, what are you using to store your games on a Wii? A usb drive or a sd card? What do you recommend?
I use component cables through to an Aliexpress Component to HDMI converter. Hands down, 10 times better than those composite to HDMI boxes or the Wii2HDMI
I have a very modern TV and it picks up 480p no worries.
Most TVs have an option to rescale the image, which I use to get the image back to 4:3
Total cost was about 15$ USD using new user promo.
There's better options, but I doubt for that price.
I'd say those Wii2HDMI adapters use composite signal, that's why they're trash.
Thanks for comparing multiple options in a single video !
I have similar to the white ones on the left, and the Wii looks great. I have had it several years, and don't remember where I got it.
Im using WII2HDMI with NTSC WII and PAL TV. Works well. Cost me about 10€. Using 1985 B&O TV with NES
I've got the Wii2HDMI one can't complain it works don't think it cost much either
cool video but somehow I do prefer the component-5 setup.
Do you think there's a difference in quality between them/ which is better?
as someone who really cares about image quality and has hdmi modded a bunch of consoles i wouldnt buy any of these but i would recommend the 'electron warp' from electron shepard
they make great quality stuff and its a cheap and easy way to get hdmi on your wii
I would love to get my hands on one but that $20 shipping is pretty steep , do you any UK suppliers
Right sprite does ship to the US
Appreciate the great comments aswell , all the best
@@rightspritegaming This is a very late response, but I have the Autoutlet. The quality and audio are amazing, but the screen is always displayed in 4:3 by default. So I always have to zoom it in manually, but it does seem fitting for some GameCube games, though. In all, it's amazing!
Be interesting to see a PCB level tear down between these
Do the USBloader video settings change the whole console or just games run through the USBloader. I want it to change the whole console but I can't find anything to say if it does or not.
@ethantoll8147 I'm pretty sure its just for the games, but I could be mistaken 😅
Why not use a Rad2x or Retrotink 2x with a Scart RGB cable? best image quality
Can you make a tutorial on how to use the mclasic on the autolet adapter? I don’t really know how the mclasic works so far
Which ones support all Virtual Console & WiiWare titles?
Well this video is covering the output of the Wii console, I have not heard of titles from the Wii ware to not support 480p
@@rightspritegaming Many virtual console games run at 240p. Quite a few modern televisions no longer support this resolution, so if the adapter simply passes through that signal, you won't get a display output.
@@Anthestudios I'm pretty sure that these games have a controller combo of some sort to enable 480i, and I would think that they would recognize 480p if enabled in the Wii menu.
does the image actually looks sharper with that upscaler? something i should actually go ahead and buy?
hello and thank you for your video!
I'm French and I bought the Wii 2 HDMI White Sheap, but haven't yet unboxed it since the beginning of 2022, because I very rarely play!
I would like to know if you made a video on the xbox classic, "the 1st xbox", or the PLAYSTATION 2 please?

I am in the process of making a Xbox one 😁
For so reason when I use the Wii to hdmi that u used that was all plastic ‘first’ my tv in both 16/9 and 4/3 stays in 4/3
I trashed these adapters. They all had horrid crackle problems. Any loud sounds like the bobombs in Mario Kart sounded like a bunch of firecrackers. Went to a Component to retrotink setup. Works wonders.
Hey i bought a composite cable before seeing your video. Is the composite cable the reason my wii isnt displaying colour red? or is that a problem with the Wii Av cable itself. Just want to know which part to rebuy thanks!!
I want to take the Autolet one (much cheaper than the Electron Shepperd to receive it in Switzerland), are new stocks planned?
Stock is in

I have the firsr genaric wii2hdmi adapter you showed and a old crappy 720p tv and it does actually output 1080p bc the tv says “the signal is too high resolution” but when i use the component cables and 480p it works fine. I wanted to point this out bc you said it does not output 1080p
Can you make a video testing a wii with the latest models of smart tvs with 4k upscale?
I will be doing so on my next review video
What are your thoughts on the Mayflash and Electron Warp adaptors? They seem highly rated too.
Question how did you solve the diagonal lines ? Portholic
What an amazing video, we need one for the ps2 DESPERATELY
Do I need the aux cord for the audio with the Autoutlet?
Why did you skip the mayflash? Everyone says it’s the best one :(
Hey, it's the dancing JBL speaker guy!
I use Wii 2 hdmi it looks fine enough to me but still interesting vid none the less
What is the best converter for 55" TV?
Wait so you can connect wavebird gamecube controller into wii ?
Yeah that's my main go to
You haven't lived until you've used a Wavebird on your Wii. ;-D
I just use Wii2HDMI, it's cheap and gets the job done, for a stupid ass low af audio problem mine has I just lower the volume of the TV
Did you notice any significant amount of lag with the Autoutlet one? Or was it a normal amount of lag? And also wanted to thank for your detailed video, was really helpful!
Thanks for you support, no visual lagg in my experience
Hi. congratulations for the video. I bought autlel HDMI converter and I had with common white adapter any artifacts in any letters and images with my mcable gaming, I haven't mclassic adapter. Do you have any artifacts?
Thanks
It looks like the gray Mayflash adapter is designed for SNES/SFC, N64, and GC. Not for Wii. You should get the white Mayflash adapter for Wii.
Which one do you recommend between mayflash and bitfunx?
Bitfunk
And for the record, NO Wii2HDMI adapter gives as good quality as the Official Nintendo component cables going directly to a TV that supports them! None. Your results were skewed because you used 3rd party component cables and used a converter box. *Bottom line: If your TV supports component cables, get the official Nintendo component cables as it is better quality than ANYTHING in this video. The ONLY way to do better is to hard mod your Wii to have an HDMI signal directly from the GPU. Good luck with that mod.*
Sadly, modern televisions don't offer component inputs. : (
Um... Why do people think official component cables look better than third party? It's still component and you're just mixing up composite and component
@@idkrossplay You're right. I have Wii component cables that I purchased through Monoprice and they work fine.

good morning, I use the white wii2hdmi adapter and I notice that almost imperceptible lines move, I don't remember if they were visible even with the scart. I'm on a 4k uhd tv, maybe it's just the graphics of the wii which aren't very clean because it's an old console?
does anyone know if any of these will run on a wii mini thats running homebrew and gx loader?
Does the Autoutlet work with the mClassic?
How do you use it with elgato hd 60 s with a Wii hdmi adapter
I have that first one (White with blue text) and what I noticed is that it actually only has diagonal lines when using 480p instead of 480i
My tv can handle both so I'm obviously using the 480i since there is no noise for my tv there.
I never had the noise specs show up on my tv so that might be a case by case thing.
As you mentioned, it might be sth with the cables.. idk xD
(Update: I weirdly haven't gotten the diagonal (on 480p) lines after changing the aspect ratio (in the WII settings) to 4:3 and then back to 16:9, been sitting in front of my tv for a good 15 minutes now without them showing up again)
I appreciate the depth of this video and its idea, BUT, i think leaving out component to HDMI is the hit to this video. Most if not all direct "ps2tohdmi" or "wii2hdmi" utilize composite inputs (ive even gone as far as spending $30/$35 and still would get composite results which $30-$35 is a bit much for such a thing considering the cables are $5-$15 on avg depending if you want OEM or not)
I am gonna try component to HDMI as opposed to WII2HDMI, which will make the setup ugly but i dont wanna spend $100+ looking for the right WII2HDMI.
i think most wii2hdmi & ps2hdmi adapters use ypbpr component video because they support 480p
Try ElectronWarp for Wii. It should be the best option overall, for latency and quality.
i found the settings made a much larger impact to the video quality, more so than the adapter.
Happy I still have a tv that accepts hdmi composite and AV
