I love that Ultimate has content that was cut from every Smash game

I mean i guess not
One thing they didn't do right is costumes. If it really was ultimate, they should give us every version of every smash character as they were presented in previous games. For example, Twilight princess Link, Zelda and Ganondorf. Oot Ganondorf is pretty cool but I prefer his Twilight princess design
Can you talk about the unused voices for Brawl? Project M used many of these voice clips.
Tails was also in wasn't he? Like there was a joke that he and Sonic were gonna be in (still hate that joke).

It’s weird to think that if Melee was delayed so they could add more content into the game like more fighters such as Snake, Sonic and Wario and more items like the Smash Ball, Assist Trophies and Pokemon, Super Smash Bros Melee may have been a much different game and probably change how the entire Smash Bros series is today.

Ditto does still appear in melee, but only if you start a tournament and hold left and right and select random....ditto's face will appear as your character
No the most important part of the Gamecube is the handle.

well honestly the handle makes sense because if you were trying to carry it with one hand it would be pretty hard not to drop it

3:28 those are just switches from Yoshi's Story. You throw eggs at them and it changed the lane the cloud platform you were riding was on.
Would love to see Takamaru and Mach Rider playable one day.

Wasn't Leif going to be in the game alongside Marth, but was scrapped because of Roy?
I'm fairly certain that Leif was supposed to be with Marth, but since Roy was from an upcoming Fire Emblem game, they cut Leif and used Roy.
Crazy, because in an alternate universe, everyone knows Leif and Marth as the Fire Emblem representives, and Roy is just another forgotton lord.
@@Spartan-mv6om Right? Sakurai at least gave a nod to Leif with Marth's white costume which is cool though. Although, I feel like it's slowly differentiated itself from being a reference to Leif in the newer games.
@@HY0 Yeah. It's starting to feel less like a Leif skin, and more like a white colored costume.
I think in the long run, it's a good thing Roy was the representative, considering he has connections to the first game that came west. Is he a good representative for the franchise as a whole? That's debatable, but at the time, I think he was a better (sword wielding) rep than Leif (in my opinion, anyway). I'm glad Leif's a spirit in Ultimate, though.

But it's not a real gun, though. It doesn't even shoot bullets.
Don't believe me? Have Joker shoot Palutena, and have her use her Down Special on it.
You know what move she will use? 'Counter', NOT Reflect.
Furthermore, Villager and Isabel cannot pocket his Gun attack as well.
There is no projectile being used with his Gun attack, it's effectively a melee attack as far as the game is concerned.
Note that none of these scenarios have the same effect with Bayonetta's gun.

Nah, the "hard no" was due to copyright stuff. Mainly the character's likeness to the actor. I don't even know who they need to go through for the movie rights.
Without those, what would we even call the character? Secret Agent Man? Oh no! Another wall. Guy in a Tux it is.
Joanna Dark might have been a good substitute but Banjo was the better choice.

Marth has a voice clip that went unused in Melee! I think it was supposed to be used when he appears on stage at the start of the battle, it's of him saying "let's dance!" and imo, it's absolutely adorable.
Funny thing about Marth and Roy when they were selected, is that Marth was glitched. And my main Roy was completely fine
It always bothered me that smash 64 was the only one with the animations for the character select it's weird to know that it was planned for melee

3:36 they’re obviously tracks. Look at how they would match up to the dotted lines (which platforms could’ve been meant to travel on) and the red balls could’ve been meant to hit so you could change the tracks directions.

You forgot to mention that the burning Castle portion of Castle Seige in Brawl was part of the scrap Fire Emblem stage in Melee
Also Pit was also considered to be in Melee, but Ice Climbers was chosen over instead

This the only Smash game that people wanted James Bond to get into. I have no comment. Wait...
Mother 3 was titled Mother 3 on the N64 =b Earthbound 64 is just it's western name. That's why in the Japanese trailers for the game it Spouts Mother 3 all over the place, even in the in game textures.
7:41 Didn't stop Marth and Roy though. Heck, Roy's game wasn't even out at all at the point that Melee was released in Japan. I wonder how many players confused him with his father Eliwood. Both in Japan, due to the timing, and in the rest of the World due to Blazing Blade being the first Fire Emblem released internationally. And younger Eliwood (FE7 is a prequel after all) does resemble his son quite much.
If they ever remake the GBA-FE's I hope they do 7 before 6 and give us a method to transfer data in between the games...
And then FE7 ends with a smol Roy, only for the West to realize "...hold up, his game already happened and the *sequel* is a completely different continent!?"
Haha, yeah, as a kid I thought it was Roy on the boxart and Marth's grizzled uncle (who turned out to be Hector) or something. I even named the tactician Roy because I was so sad that Eliwood WASN'T Roy. As an adult FE fan though, I can honestly say I like Eliwood a lot more.

Everyday I lament that we never got Takamaru, Ayumi Tachibana, or Mach Rider in Melee. It would have been cool to see them return along side everyone else. 😔

@Lady Stardust Now that I think about it, they probably would make a custom animation instead of using a victory animation.
The game has a hard enough time loading the alternate colors on the bottom half of the roster... I can only imagine how long it would take to render those 3D models.

I remember hearing from somewhere that Final Smashes were intended to be included in Melee too, but they couldn't figure out how to implement them in time
You missed the fact that if you beat adventure mode 50 times with each character you get Minecraft Steve as a playable fighter.
My favorite fact you mentioned is how the beta stages looked compared to their final forms. I think most of the final forms are better though is neat seeing what they previously appeared like; especially the Yoshi's Island stage. You should do one on Brawl if you ever get the desire man!

3:35 the thing you are talking about is a refrence to yoshi 64 there acouple levels where you ride a path and have to hit them with eggs to trigger the switch to avoide death or bumper as well as getting some melons I believe there mostly in the first page since there are very select few. Locations in the pages that have like grassy terrain with trees etc etc

I'm kinda glad he didn't. He would have broke the restriction of Smash ONLY having characters that originated from a video game.
If he made it in, then the arguments for Goku and Shrek to be in would have a LOT more weight to them.

Smash bros was originally a celebration of Nintendo, but then brawl happened, and it became a celebration of gaming. If James Bond has made it into melee, smash just would’ve become a celebration of pop culture as a whole instead.

The definition of 'pop culture' is so vague that Smash Bros would have become a joke by its fourth game had they just allowed whoever was popular around the time the game came out.
Having it restricted to the history of video games is a much tighter genre to work with.

I still want to know what the Archanea stage would have looked like (for context, Archanea is how Akaneia was localized in Shadow Dragon, so I've started calling it that.)
It would be so interesting to see how Melee would've turned out if it had just a little more development time. I'd love to see how characters like Snake, Wario, and Sonic would've turned out with Melee's engine(don't bring up PM lol).

You forgot to mention leaf from fire emblem because if you did not know leaf was consider to be Marth's clone before that would be Roy and originally there was going to be FS but then they got cut and there's was originally going to be spirits in melee but then they got scraped
It's weird seeing that Melee was so much cut content. I would've live to had seen the Archanea stage and have Snake in Sonic in.
i guess the reason why they decided not to have the lab open in the ocarina of time level is because they thought it was a waste and looked weird and the blocks going up with the songblocks in the yohsis island level to kinda yoshis story as well
In the N64 version the motion bomb is 007 for all regions.
I'd love to see one day Balloon Fighter, Urban Champion, Bubbles, ExciteBiker, Ayumi Tachibana and Takamaru join the fight.
Having them as Assist Trophies (like Takamaru) wouldn't be bad either.

I think those things on Yoshi's Story that you weren't sure about are path changers. The red thing looks like a lever that would probably rotate the indent when struck, changing the path of whatever followed those lines (likely platforms)

Here's my problem.
Sakarai turned down multiple japan exclusive characters, but let Marth and Roy be in Melee.
SSBM even says that fire emblem is JAPAN ONLY (at that time).
I didn't even know anything about fire emblem until a decade later (2015), so I don't see why Sakarai denied Japan only games if fire emblem was.
Well, to be fair, Fire Emblem was (about to be) six games deep in it's franchise at that point, while they others were one shots from the 80s. Whether it was inevitably coming to the west or not, I think it might've just been a safer investment if they were looking for more game franchises to represent.
Most of the others only had one game, while FE had half a dozen games and an OVA (which, fun fact, actually was released outside Japan)

Shed a tear every time he mentions mother 3 being canceled on the n64 and GameCube. Originally it was 64 but the game was reaching the end of its lifespan so they switched development to the GameCube but the team didn’t have experience in making 3D models so mother 3 got scrapped till 06’ I feel like if Iwatta came in and helped mother 3 would have been on the game cube.

In this video, Aaronmitar mentions the hesitance of the developers to put in characters from Japan-exclusive franchises, and so OP points out how strange it is that Fire Emblem, which was Japan-exclusive at the time and remained as such for another 2 years, had characters represented in the game. It doesn't matter that Fire Emblem was later released in the west, just that it hadn't been at the time.

As a kid, I spent countless hours looking at the hundreds of trophies on Melee, and have tons of wonderful useless information from them. I'm so thankful for that.
However, I wish that they had just been 2D from the beginning, and all that time spent on doing the 3D rendering for all of those trophies could have instead been spent on creating people we could have actually played. I feel like trophies sadly hello Sakurai back significantly. I wonder if anyone has ever asked him if he feels that way, since he slipped them out to make Ultimate all that it is. I do think it wouldn't have been out of reason to give one person the job of doing a Google search and print information for each Spirit as text that you could find next to it on the Inventory screen... But, we've all got the internet for that now, I suppose.
