Renee, you said it perfectly. Anja, please do not frog this beautiful creation. When I saw it on the park bench, there was no way I could see any imperfection. I can except how you feel about it, but it's lovely and is not the disaster you feel it is just now.

The Navajo make it a point to make a mistake when weaving. It's said that the mistake is a way for the bad spirits to get out and not be in the blanket.

The Amish always say to make at least one mistake on anything you make. Because nobody is perfect so nothing we make should be perfect. But it is beautiful. I love it.

Even though I am just watching this video 4+ years later, I can feel your pain and frustration. Needless, to say, it is nice to know that even the best designers and crocheters make mistakes as well. I mean this in the best possible way. Your work is exceptionally beautiful. The way you display it outside takes it to another level!

This is not a disaster . . . .please dont undo it . . . .its warm and lovely and multicoloured and would be a cosy addition to any bed or couch. The desire for perfection is the enemy of the possible.

I have a tip for remembering your hook size. When I start a new project I put a knot in the yarn before I start crocheting 1 knot for A hook, 2 knots forB hook,3knots for C hook etc. It take a little bit of yarn but if you leave a project for weeks you will forget what hook you were using. This way you just go to the first line and count your knots.

On a side note, you taught me to label my projects. I have the worst memory when I put a project away for a bit. I started watching your videos a couple of weeks ago and that suggestion has helped tremendously. Thank you

Honestly I don't think anybody would notice that mistake unless you pointed it out to them. We are always very anxious about our own mistakes and they seem glaringly obvious to us, but other people don't usually notice them at all. Everything I crochet, knit or sew usually has at least one (unplanned) mistake in it, and my work often deviates from my original idea and goes off on a new direction as I adapt to the mistakes and see where they will take me! I have learned to accept the mistakes cheerfully and think of them as little quirks that add to the charm of something that is handmade. If your blanket was a factory made blanket made on a computerised machine, maybe it would be 100% "perfect" but devoid of character. However, it's a blanket made by a creative human being. You are human and therefore makes mistakes just like the rest of us do, so it's not a "perfect" blanket. It's a blanket with personality!

I have a tiny notebook and I keep a note page for every project. I write what hook size I am using, type of yarn, and other notes. I keep the projects in large ziplock bags and when I pull one out to work on it I check the notebook for hook size, etc. I also note hook brand because different brands are different in terms of size. I learned by my own mistake as well! I feel you!

I've found that if the yarn has different yarn gauges, it make a difference in the blankets not just the difference in the crochet hook. If its not too wide at the end of the blanket and its slightly off, I put a shell pattern border on it to hide the difference. Use it as a lap blanket and enjoy it, it's really pretty. I just love it. Happy Crocheting! Tina

So glad you shared your disaster and happier yet that you went on. I scrutinized it and any unevenness is NOT apparent. Even looking at both sides swaying on the fence. I have always been unhappy with my disasters and the uneven blanket is not new to me. My problem is hating to count every row. Your blanket made that only necessary once. I make more scrap quilts then projects themselves...and happily donate them. Really enjoy your videos and learned what ‘frog it” means. Pat, from across the pond

Thank you so much for letting all the newbies out there know even long time crocheters make mistakes. We will always make mistakes. I agree with most of the other commenters. If you think it is that bad, call it done and let it be a smaller piece you use by your chair or to cover cold feet. It's pretty and unless someone was looking hard they would never know. I am lucky enough to have multiple hooks from mama, yard sales and ones I bought, so I leave the hook in the piece I'm working on as well as like you make a note. A knitting guru of mine says 'You are the boss of your own knitting', that goes for crochet, too, if you absolutely HAVE to tear it back, go for it, but you don't have to. Again thanks for sharing.

I know and understand that you are an expert. I understand also that this human mistake bothers you and I really appreciate your sense of expertise, but at the end of the day it’s a blanket, for yourself. It would be to much work to frog it, as the ends are so finished. Also the possibility of not having enough of a certain color, so to eliminate a whole row yet to boot. I say LEAVE IT. Besides- every time you laid it out LAYLA came and SAT on it so I think too she was saying LEAVE IT. 😊 I’m sorry this mistake was made but it is a lesson well learned and it surely showed me much here.
    1. Tension. Moods and place can have a bearing on one’s tension. Something to consider.
    2. The importance of hook size.
    3. How to work on more than one project at a time. Marking hook size and ect.
    4. Looking back on the project frequently to access as I go, and detect early-on errors.
    5. Frogging. Not to finish ends before project is finished (so to be able to frog or not when a mistake is noticed).
    6. Most important- the love of crocheting and the art of perfection. 🧶🪡
    HAPPY CROCHETING 😊❤️
Thank you Anja for all you to to help your viewers and encourage the art of crocheting. I’ve have learned so much from you and so much pleasure. May god bless your efforts in life. You are a blessing to me.

Oh, I do hope you will use it and enjoy it just as it is! It is a reflection of whatever was going on when you worked on it. I made a quilt years ago and one of the red fabrics and one of the green fabrics bled when I washed it. Agh! I put that quilt on my bed every January and I enjoy it. Boy did I learn my lesson on thoroghly washing fabric before using it. Just last week I put a length of flannel through the rinse cycle all day long before the color catchers came out white. That will be the back of a throw I am quilting. Thanks for sharing real experience with us!

Since it's for you, only you will know. This happened to me on a chemo lapghan so I frogged, cut and crocheted the difference. But I learned to count. Also, I keep each WIP in a bag with the hook and yarn. Know that cutting results in ravelling. You must sew, then chop. The difference on your blanket is minimal. Thanks for being humble and sharing. With the entire world!

Doubtless you've already resolved this issue, but if you haven't yet . . . you could try blocking the narrower bit, and then add a pretty border and call it done. Especially since it's just for yourself, it'll be fine just as it is. (Alternatively, you could add some small granny squares to the ends of the narrow bit and free-form the joining stitches as needed to even it out -- then it's a planned focal point, not a mistake!)

Thanks for sharing! I am not sufficiently experienced to suggest what to do. I ripped out my last "disaster" and restarted. I put the project away and mulled over what to do for 3 days before deciding. I've repeatedly learned it is best to give oneself grace and time especially when strong feelings are aroused. What I learned this time was to modify my project notes. I use "Apple Notes" to include detailed information about projects. A missing detail from my notes was crochet HOOK size. Mistakes are gems, useful for how to improve whatever one is doing. I am learning from you (as I have from others) and am grateful. In my humble opinion, because it is a scrap blanket, I would decide what hook to use to continue and enjoy the beautiful colors.

First: Thank you very much for sharing your dilemma. I enjoy learning from your videos. Seeing your blanket "mistake" puts me more at ease with my own stumbles. I think the blanket is beautiful. When I find my mistakes I try to imagine how I'll feel after the project has been in use for a year or so. If I imagine I'll be happy with it, I leave it be. If not, well, a-ripping I will go. It's the only way I've thought of to make a hard call. Thank you again for your videos.

It is a beautiful blanket...but just like card making there are no mistakes. It adds to the blanket and it shows us mistakes are fine to make. I am learning a lot about crocheting from you. Love all your videos, past and present.

I have a book that I write down every project I start. I write down all the yarn information, the hook size, the date I started it and also who or what it is for. Also which pattern. Example, donation for VA or for Kristain for his play blanket. I can always go back for information. I also put a note of hook size and pattern copy in my hook holder for that project. I have a hook container for every project I start. I have 10 hook holders which have everything I need for a project. I started doing this in 2020. It has truly helped. Not to frog. Just use it as it is. Use it for a car blanket. Or use it for a cat blanket

Omg i love that i came across this video! In this video you describe so many feelings, obstacles, and thought processes that i myself have gone through! I always have wondered if it was just me who ever went through this? I’m a 26 yr young man that started when i was 12 so I’m not beginner but seeing you as an intermediate or advanced crocheter and having the same creative stumps or difficulties that i have experienced bring ease. I too have many times come to a point on a certain project where i realize I’ve made a mistake and I’m faced with making a decision to either redo my work or just keep going. Something else i noticed that we have in common is our want for our project to come out perfect or close to perfection. Whatever I make I like for it to come out perfect, it’s just how i am. And if I’ve made a mistake i can’t keep going i have to fix it. There have been many times I’ve just ignored the mistake and finished the project all to redo my work because i didn’t like a certain section that came out a little wrong. Btw your blanket looks phenomenal! !!

I am a lifelong crocheter and have made and done everything that could possibly be done and that includes all of the mistakes. Here is my best tip. I have learned to check my work often enough that if there is a mistake I catch it quickly. You will do the same thing and the sooner the better for you. And P.S. I still love crochet and in fact have a project going right now. And I too started when I was 12. My dear mother had the patience to teach me and I am now 66.

Put a broader on it that way you can tell as much. An that way you don't have to try and pull it apart and hope it will work out. I have had that same problem. Once I put the border on it it wasn't as noticeable. I hope this helps. It is beautiful and I love the colors. An I have been think of doing the same thing with my odds and ends.

It is so refreshing to see that even the experts make these kinds of errors. It is a beautiful blanket and I'm sure it will work out fine. A great boarder might hide it though. I would definitely curl up in front of a warm fire with a good book on a cold day with this blanket. PLEASE DON'T BRING IT!!

What I usually do is leave the original hook in my projects. I have 4-5 of each size so if I have something that will take awhile I am able to leave the hook in. It's lovely. I would leave as is.

It is a beautiful blanket. I too have been working on the same blanket but changing color ever two rows. I have been working on my blanket over the last two years and I too am experiencing the same issue. I think my problem is that I started out using a chain stitch between the clusters and then in the middle for some
reason I didn't use a chain stitch so my middle is skinnier than the beginning. I have put a lot of work into this blanket and just want to get it done so I do not plan to remove any of the stitches. I plan to just add a border and hope it all works out. I hope you don't stress and find a solution that that you are happy with. It is a beautiful blanket just embrace the imperfections and move on.
