My name is Rod Jones. I'm a 5th generation farmer and KC-135 pilot in the Ohio Air National Guard.
I was Active Duty Air Force for 16 years and have been with the Ohio Air National Guard for 4 years.

This never gets old and the night shots were amazing too! I have watched a ton of C-17 fly over my house low altitude and always wondered what that strange green glow on them was. Well now I know 😆

I remember using 2 rolls of 35 mm film out that window myself high above in the sky.
I was stationed near Spang 1979-1981 and Bittburg was our beer, retired from 180th FW 2018.

We live about 60 miles south of Chillicothe in West Virginia. We always hear the big planes go over on training runs

Hey Rod, nice video. Had a couple of youngsters with ya. Thankfully, you had a SMSGT to help keep them both inline. Boomer trainee was from my first CONUS -- ALTUS, nice place. I have to ask ya a question, if ya don't want to answer, I am good with that. I am sure all pilots are the same, and don't want to talk about what I am about to ask. None of us in the military really like talking about a few subjects. What was the most critical in flight experience you had in the 135? I watched a lot of birds go air born yesterday with Global Thunder, lost track of the number of tankers and B52's all in the air at once. When you see them all flush at once like that in ADSB exchange, makes ya wish were young again and still be in uniform. Thanks for serving Rod.
I started out in C-130s and was shot at with SAMs a few times.
In the -135, I've shut down a couple engines inflight, landed with very little fuel a few times, and had a couple of near misses with out of control drones.

Curious.... no hats!!? Also, was surprised to see how pronounced the "side-to-side" oscillation of the engines on the C-17! were!
What exactly are you referring to?
@@ohioflyingfarmer7050 Check at 12:13 and you will see some slight movement of the C-17engines from their suspension..... Not very perceptible, but I noticed it..... Maybe that is normal....
Side note: I worked at PPG Aerospace in Glendale, CA and hired a lady who was one of the safety people during the construction of the C-17!

I get to see your counterparts take off a few miles south of me out of Lincoln, NE quite often. Rod, do you ever watch the Monkey Werx sitrep videos? I saw C-17 on this video and all I thought about was his videos and thinking ya it's busy hauling things back and forth to port or over to Ramstein for ....not a war.

That camera angle in the cockpit window moving around was soo cool. How did you get camera to rotate automatically setting on the dash when you where busy taking off?
I didn't!
The camera records in 360 degrees.
After I record and download the video, I can pick and choose which camera angle I want to display.

How is that camera pan achieved ? Are you using an Insta 360 ?
It a Go Pro 360.
Basically, it's recording a 360 degree shot.
After I download the footage, I can pan around and choose the footage I want to display.

If you promoted to colonel would you still be able to fly or would that be more of a desk job, also do they even have reserve colonels?
Yes, there are Reserve Colonels and Generals.
I would still get to fly some, but prob not as much.
