    One of the coolest things I got to do when I was a crew chief. We were going from Hawaii to Gaum. It happened to be my birthday an the AC let my fly the plane for a couple hours out over the pond. Another good video thanks for sharing.

    I have to say is that during my time with the USAF I dealt with a bunch of really good officers and I was never disappointed in how good these men and women were. The only time I was ever "chewed out" was while at Cherry Point MCAS to recover an F-4E (4th TFW Seymour Johnson) that diverted due to mechanical issues. While on the ramp a Marine Corp Officer (2nd Lt) though I was a Marine and was yelling (in typical Marine fashion) at me about my long hair (I was within 35-10 reg) and kept calling me a "hippie", I was trying my best not to smile, then he seen the USAF tag on my O.D. green fatigues and in mid sentence said " Oh you're Air Force! never mind" and turned and walked away. The aircrew was walking out onto the ramp and asked what that was about, we all had a good laugh. Man I miss the Air Force. Thanks for posting.

    I'm always amazed at how the boomer can fly that probe right into the receiver. They must be really good golfers, too. I have a suggestion... install one of those jet engines on your combine. You could buzz right through 200 acres of wheat in just a few minutes. Just be careful you don't set the field on fire.

    Rod, another nostalgic video for a retired tanker guy. Great video of the breakaway. Liked your mentoring a youngster in the art. The tanker is still a beast from the early 60’s. I was most impressed flying out of PSAB in the summer. Engine egt lights illuminated at 40c at 320k and she still got off the ground near 6000ft. It’s an impressive aircraft with the essential crews that man her.

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050

    Made my morning seeing this in my feed. I always have great respect for the dynamic forces acting during flight, watching the oscillations of the engines on the pylons during flight made me consider the engineering behind the wings and pylons on both the 135 and the 17. Made me think of the wing tip views I have seen from wide body jets I have been on during both taxi and in flight. Great video.

  • @thedonleroy
    @thedonleroy ปีที่แล้ว

    I just love those views. When I watch one of your videos it makes me think of my uncle. He joined the Air Force during WWII. He was a bomber pilot. He started out on the B-17 & was flying the B-52 when he retired. I didn't see him that much as he lived in Texas & we lived in Minnesota, but it was always fun when we did get to see him. He always had a story or 2 about his flying days,

    The center instruments have changed a bit since I last worked on them. Looks like the bins in the back haven't though. I'm curious what the fix was for the gear issue. We had one that could not be duplicated on the ground. We just happened to look at the forward hinge on one of the main doors after the 100th (felt like it) gear swing. A bushing had backed out just enough to allow the air stream to pull the door down just enough to actuate the door open switch and therefore a light in the handle.

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050
      @ohioflyingfarmer7050  ปีที่แล้ว

      We just cycled the gear doors a few times. Must've been a switch or something that wasn't making contact.

    As I am watching this, I went and checked ADS. Guess what Eddie 61 is air born. Squawk is 6602 at at 26975 alt and going 484 kts. Safe Flight Rod. Always love your videos.
    On your HP formula. No idea to be honest. Yet when I was in the Army. We worked on M1 tanks that used a jet turbine engine. We were always told to take a exhaust temp reading at idle. For each degree of temp, equals 1 horsepower. So 1200 degree's is 1200 horsepower. I do not know if that is equal to a plane jet engine or not. But it could be. Great video Rod.

    Pedantic mathematics geek here.
    You are correct in your conversion for a given speed. 22k on a stand though, pushing that bird you'll never see it, but it doesn't need it either. Other than numbers, I love aircraft and while that engine sometimes needs a swift kick in the butt, it's a runner for sure. Really enjoying your vids.

      @Ohio Flying Farmer New and to the wall yes. Things wear from there but that engine wears "in" long before it wears out. Poseidon fly's a newer variant today. Grew up on a farm, miss the land but not the work.
