    I wouldn't mind spending my money on any of their home products. They obviously know what they're doing. They are such an approachable and humbled family no matter all the love and attention they get for their work. Their new restaurant in Waco employs over 400 of the locals. I love that they invest in and give back to their community. I wish them all the love and success that they've earned!

    Iveused Annie Sloan for years. Joanna has great chalk paint also. Haven’t used it long enough to decide if one is better then the other. I did a bedroom in eggshell Shiplap and the antique bed in Annie Sloan graphite and love it.

    Wow these comments- Annie Sloan isn't the only chalk paint. What's so funny is that I purchased it twice, and didn't love it. I love the Chalky finish paint by Rustoleum! It works great in my opinion. But Joanna Gaines is NOT just about sales. You should read her book--Magnolia. They are fantastic people & grounded in their faith.

      They're** probably vendors for Annie Sloan and they're seeing dollar signs disappear. I'm NOT a vendor. I just paint. I have probably 30+ cans of chalk paint from several sources including Annie Sloan. My fave thus far is Maison Blanche. Annie Sloan Paint is good, don't get me wrong, but her wax isn't as good as Maison Blanche's wax - not by a long shot as anyone who's not monetarily tied to either one and has tried the two will attest - and her paint does not dry as smooth as Maison Blanche. This wax looks to be as smooth as Maison Blanche and the paint looks to be as smooth as well. I'm interested in trying it out!
      **meaning the people commenting as if A.S. is the only good chalk paint.

      Terri, why would anyone as successful as Chip and Joanna sell Annie Sloan. For one it is easier and more cost effective to make your own. and second she wouldn't spend the amount it cost for Annie Sloan's paint if she can save herself and her clients money. That was a silly and unnecessary statement.

      Actually, the paint isn’t the identical paint as the Magnolia Chalk style paint. There are different grades of paint as with anything. Same with the Kilz paint too. The Magnolia paint is thicker therefore produces a greater mil and has a higher durability which lasts longer. You get what you pay for, in my opinion.

      Some people use plain ol' Johnson's Paste Wax over their chalk-painted pieces, which actually works. But just remember that ALL wax needs to be refreshed from time to time. This is exactly why polyurethane came into style so that, like in the ol' days, people did not need to re-wax their furnishings.

    Funny for me (from UK) to see a brand using the word "Magnolia". This was the colour used in every house on every wall, for decades I think. A pale creamy peach colour. So pervasive, one acquaintance went to some length to get a colour custom tinted only to find she had subconsciously chosen "magnolia"! So, it's now kind of a joke.

    I’ve always applied clear wax before dark as dark wax will stain the piece. But if that’s what you’re going for, by all means. Otherwise, clear, then dark. If the dark is too dark, simply wipe over with clear to remove. If dark wax is applied first, you can’t do that.

    What if the object you want to use chalk paint on was originally painted with oil? Won't the chalk paint just peel off without the proper preparation?

    • @michelleanderson2916
      @michelleanderson2916 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brette Pruitt no it won’t peel. All you need to do is lightly sand the piece and then wipe with a damp cloth. Then begin the to paint. The joint compound clings to almost anything. Best piece of advice I was given, is if you are going to paint Cherry wood you should use KILZ primer first or the cherry wood pokes through somehow.
      How to: clean/wipe furniture
      (No need to sand AT ALL) Spray KILZ on about ONE FOOT away or you get bubbles. After it drys (30 mins) use “very fine” or 220 grit sandpaper and with 1-2 strokes take off the crumb/grit feel of Kilz. And remember, to stroke the same direction of the grain. Then clean/wipe off fine dust. THEN paint with Chalk paint. And use a clear wax to seal or polyurethane.

    • @Pamsmith59
      @Pamsmith59 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I clean all my furniture pieces with TSP substitute, which does the exact same job as plain ol' TSP but does not leave a chalky film that you then have to rinse off.
      Anytime you use "chalk paint," because it has such a flat finish, you must use something over it to "seal" the paint. Otherwise every little fingerprint will show on it (due to oils from the hands) and every time the piece is bumped, it will show scuffs. Wax is always the last step when using chalk paint.
      Oh, and by the way, before you make this same mistake, DO NOT use wax on outdoor furniture that will be exposed to the hot sun and hot temps. It will actually melt off.

    I’m thoroughly disgusted here!!! I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for the past 10 years. Annie changed the formula here in the US, and I stopped using it. I found this paint at Ace Hardware. I’ve purchased a couple quarts and liked the coverage. There are very few color chips for viewing . When I asked the manager why - he shared it’s been a long time ( 9 months) since a rep has replenished the display. He’s also frustrated. This is absurd… I’ll return in the next day or two. If more swatches aren’t available, I’ll look for another paint. Joanne, If you’re selling paint, please provide your retailers the necessary items to do it.
