I stripped a painted dresser. Not all the paint came off using the stripping process, which turned out great. I let the dresser sit for a couple of days and the remaining pair cracked but stayed affixed to the dresser. That gave a great look of distressed texture on the piece. It was not intended, but I loved the look. I did not use chalk paint, but used a base color of brown, and the dry brushed green with white and some gray over the surface creating different shades. I then randomly dry brushed the base color on in random areas. Finally used polyurethane to coat it.
The final result was a turquoise color dresser with very uneven color from the white, gray, and brown. The whole process took about two hours not including drying time.

I’m working on an old dresser that I was going to throw out. I painted it a light green color, then put a sealant wax over that. Now, I’m going to distress the piece to bring out the natural wood again, then use the stain wax over that for detail. I took the old knobs off, and spray painted them a hammered gold color. Lastly I’ll
put another coat of sealant wax on the piece. Then it’s done. Saved myself about 600 bucks for new furniture. Thanks for the tips on distressing the piece with sandpaper...it really gave it a rugged old look that I was trying to get. Enjoyed the video...thanks!

I am not fond of the artificial distressing of furniture.
However of all the sites I have looked at, I like yours the most because the technique was there and it was not used in excess.

First time using chalk paint on an old window frame. Enjoyed seeing your video, gave me some ideas. Instructions say to use two coats first layer of white. Why? Can I use black or gray paint over it and paint again with the white over the black? Then sand down some of the white paint to let the black come through?

I bought already white distressed furniture. I want to add a touch of light turquoise over it. I still want the white to show through. How would you do that?
Beat up "distress" the piece first. Then do the chalk paint. Then sand and " distress" some more. Then apply the wax 😊

I think you did a fantastic job! That was a very large piece of furniture to tackle and it turned out great! My only question is did you Clean the dresser( with any water/soap) before you started painting? and if so, what did you use?
I did my dining table but didn't like the top i used dark wax it just looked like streak marks i even wiped it so im going to try to repaint top and fix it thanks for showing what you did the rest came out great.

Hey, thanks for the video! Super helpful! I did have a few questions if you have time? What did you use the knife for when you were doing your first coat? Also how long do you wait between coats for it to dry? And do you need to sand the wood first if it had a high gloss finish on it? Also, will you do a tutorial on how to do a turquoise dresser like this? Or is it the same process with the same dark wax! Thanks in advance!
That dresser looked as if it hadn't been sanded.I would have also done a prime coat.never seen anyone do it like that before.I clean,n samd ans do a prime coat,then after ita painted I take a very light grid sand paper,and go across it to make it look aged the wax will set the paint.you can alway use a wet cloth to distress works just as good

BEAUTIFUL!! I have a question. I found a piece on the side of the road.🤗 It’s currently turquoise and black. I want to paint it black and distress it. If I go ahead and paint it black and not sand off the current colors will the turquoise show or will it go to the wood when I distress it?

This is a perfect piece for the chalk paint. Great project! Does the wax/paint layered like that cure to hardness in say fourteen days?
Thanks for making it easy to understand! My question is after you put on the wax and buff it off with the clean rag do you put like a varnish of some sort to seal you're finished product? Or do you just leave it the way it is?

I am currently doing a kitchen table, chairs and sideboard. I like your dresser, but did not see any change once the wax was added.
@courtney parish. So i have a black painted dresser. I want it to be teal with black underneath. Do I have to repaint the dresser with black chalk paint and then paint with teal? Or can I just add teal chalk paint to the already painted black dresser and wipe it of that way? I have a black satin wax..i planned to just paint it with chalk teal and let it dry..then paint it with the wax and wipe off..does that work?

Question re different process...
When refinishing furniture, painting it white how do get those black specks dots in the paint? I'm not referring to the distressing ... I'm referring both the wood grain and also like little specks in the color of the paint
