The biggest point people miss is that Fluid Film and others are not a one and done solution, they need to be sprayed every year. No "oil" mixes with water, it just loses effectiveness as it wears off.

I sprayed Amsoil HD Metal protector under my 2016 Tacoma when I bought it new in November of 2015. It's January 2024 (9 Ohio winters) - no rust!!! Places where I didn't coat did form rust by 2020. I stripped those areas to bare metal and used 2 part epoxy paint, then coated with AMSOIL HD MP and it looks like new going on 9 years.

Wow great! Just given an opportunity, could you make a video of it? Much appreciated. I had NHOU sprayed on a surface rust body and frame of my 2008 FJ cruiser and it rotted away in two years. Finally got rid of it.

It’s probably cosmoline followed up by an application of fluid film. Cosmoline is really good at preventing rust but doesn’t creep like fluid film, so I’m assuming they use both.

These guys are so cool. Down to earth and really willing to work with people. Even if it's got just a lil extra additives in it that you can't get people are gonna hate. If ur close just give it a try. You never know until you experience it. Until then your just talking shit. They are giving me a great deal. I'll leave a review afterwards.

Adding any type of coating has to be a positive and can only help. You are okat selling your product but this is standard practice for any one in the same market

I'm wondering why no one uses rustoleum paint for undercoating protection; it's been used for decades to coat metal. Seems to work great in my recollection, it's cheap and it doesn't attract dust like oils.

In the Northeast the problem is that type of product eventually chips and cracks and then it traps everything.
If you were like in the South that would work fine

    • @kovie9162
      @kovie9162 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Yep, looks great initially but comes off quickly when exposed to the elements. I know this from experience and had to redo a bunch of suspension parts that I'd initially primed and painted with Rustoleum, this time with POR-15 (and then only after following their 3 stage process that includes pretreatment with a phosphoric acid and zinc-based solution). Rustoleum is probably more suitable for stationary metal like fences and patio chairs.

@kovie9162 por15 will last double but then same thing. Just like a brand new Factory Echo there's nothing that's going to withstand the weather at all cracks and peels and some point.
Put a light layer of fluid film on top of what you did and you'll get much better results

    • @kovie9162

@@steelcityoilundercoating6305 Thanks for the advice. It's only been a year or two but I'm always checking for chips and retreating them when I can, so moisture can't slowly seep under the rest and get trapped and create far more and worse rust than on exposed metal. But I did an incredibly thorough job of derusting then degreasing, treating and painting and so far it's mostly held up. Most videos I've seen skip or gloss over some steps. But I'll consider some sort of "oil" coating.

por 15 after 6 years failed and was rusted underneath and chipping on the roof my taco and it was painted because sunlight will break it down if not coated with layer of paint. .In my honest opinion fluid film every fall works excellent. 97 taco and 95 xj parked outside last 15 years has keeped the rot monster away from the undercarriage in NY salty streets.... just saying.@@kovie9162

Do you guys wash the entire vehicles before you do this? If you do then how do you spray this into a crevice that is soaked with water? Seems to me like that’s counter productive

    • @ko2qx

wash the entire vehicle AND the underside on a jack, then towel dry if you want to do it sooner than later. let the car air out, then hit with spray.

Surface Shield and Fluid Film applied bi-annually or annually, respectively, will stop the progress of rust and prevent it on new vehicles. Check out Repair Geek's undercoating series on TH-cam. He and I live in the Snow Belt in Ohio where salt and brine kill vehicles in 10-15 years.
