I bought the RP460 (I call it the Mack-Daddy) and start with the longest hose to spray inside all frame and body cavities then spray the outside of the frame and underside of the box/cab. I use lots of product and apply it fairly thick everywhere. I had 4 other sprayers already when I bought it and threw out some of them after using the RP460. It is the best at getting the most thick product the furthest into the cavities where it is needed most. Don’t cheap out here guys. It is an investment. Spread the cost out over doing 1-2 vehicles per year for ten years and it is sooo worth it.
last year I wanted to spray my car, I tried a venturi sprayer. that didn't do it for me so I bought a pressure pot style gun. a really good one that is available here in germany. a 3300 HSDR from Vaupel. it took an hour or two to get used to it but on a sunny day with a tiny tiny compressor I had all things done in the evening. The gun is amazing I think because it also keeps pressure over hours in the pot. it is quite similar to your last one shown, also weirdly small opening but that's ok. I wouldn't want to use anything else anymore. buy cheap, buy twice. and only coat yourself
About 5 years ago I bought a Fluid Film kit that included a gun, extra bottles, wand extension for an aerosol can and a couple gallons of product. What I can't find is extension wands for the gun available to purchase separately.
I have the same lemmer rp460hd I bought this fall for my own diy stuff. I haven’t had an issue spraying fluid film with it, although I like it good and thick under there. It’s my own so I paint it on good. I have been able to get it dialed down enough for light application with the air pressure and trigger modulation. The screw on the back is actually not air it’s for the fluid needle spring pressure you can have set so hardly anything comes out. I also pretty much exclusively spray with the wands for everything and don’t use the fan tips. The smaller smaller 90 degree one will spray out less than the Deluxe one. The one thing I do miss is a second container as I was running black and clear fluid film. My clear I had a 5 gallon pump but the black I was trying was just in the gallon cans so it was a little awkward to pour in. I was quoted at $120 for another pressure container which I’m debating on because I think I am going to switch to black for everything minus some visibly panel areas around doors and such.
Also I want to say thanks for your tests and reviews. It was because of you I made the switch from having krown spray my vehicles to me spraying them myself with fluid film. I’m fully involved now.
My biggest issue with the lemmer is weight. It feels like it weighs 3 lbs when it's full and holding that over your head for hours a day gets hard on your shoulders. It a nice gun but to me it's not $350 nice.
by far the best undercoating gun ive ever used is an airless paint sprayer made for painting houses. you can find them pretty cheap used at yard sales. the bigger ones will take a whole 5 gallon bucket and the smaller ones a 1 gallon pail. they put the product out very fast with excellent coverage.
How would you recommend washing the undercoating after applying the fluid film? I'm in Michigan, and I'm buying a new 2023 car. I want to protect it with fluid film, but should I not use a pressure washer to wash the undercarriage after applying it? If I should wash it, I read that people said it'd take it off... and if it does take it off, should I re apply it every 6 months.. every year? If you can help, I'd really appreciate your opinion and time.
About compressors: You can get away with using a small single stage air compressor for something like this. Something like 4.7 or 5 gal works fine as long as its the kind with 2 tanks. I forget what you call them, but if you set them up properly they work like a 2stage and they will run a cup gun or gravity feed just fine. I used to spray contact adhesive through a cup gun with this setup, so I know it will work with undercoat.
Thanks for the helpful info I greatly appreciate it! Hope you have a wonderful holiday season! I have the wool wax pro sprayer coming, and 5gl of surface shield coming Dec ish!
Great video.. Good sound and lighting. Solid info and right to the point. Absolutely helped me in deciding which product sprayer to purchase... Ill be looking for a video about the best product to use next..
Your vid’s have been extremely helpful. I got the Woolwax gun but the wands are too thick for doors and inner cavities. Do you know of any thinner wands which will fit or another gun which has thin wands?
Thank you. Seems in order to get a thin nozzle you need to get a pressurized gun. The Woolwax gun works great for the undercarriage but since it uses the Venturi effect it needs a larger diameter wand. So I’ve been told.
Great video! After watching you I'm pretty sold on using Surface Shield. I would like to aerosol cans but cannot find the inner cavity extension spray nozzle for Surface Shield. Where did you get the one for this video?
I've had a lot of problems with Surface Shield cans. I bought 5 and 3 lost propellent at about 50%. Only one was I able to use all of the product in the can. The remaining can I just started to use.
I have the woolwax gun and bottles kit, and am thinking of switching to surface shield. Can I pour & run surface shield through my existing woolwax setup?
I have 2 tcp sprayers one of the older style with a hose and a 360° nozzle attached and another like the style you showed which has a regulator on it and haven’t had any issues with that set up except a plastic trigger on older style slips…
How hot are you getting woolwax before spraying it. Im spraying it in 80ish degree ambient temps and it hardly flows. Im noticing not much at all is making its way out of my 360 wand extension.
I have the NHOU version of the woolwax $100 sprayer and just got the woolwax supreme sprayer. The $100 is better! The supreme one has issues with the air and product flow both fading away at different times, first the product will slow down but it's still spraying as hard as it was then I will get the product back and then the air pressure will fade away. AND THE REGULATOR HAS THREADS THAT DON'T FIT ANY AIR FITTINGS OR ANY OTHER FITTINGS TO ADAPT IT AT THE HARDWARE STORE! on the plus side they did say they will send me all the new attachments for the supreme for free.
I use a blanket style 5 gallon bucket heater to warm my stuff and then a bucket pump to transfer it into the containers. Mine only heats to 145F but I'm not really sure I would want it any warmer than that.
I personally own the lemer 460 and the only thing I agree with what you said was that you can't adjust the fluid volume though. The rest your off base. Its primary job as a professional gun is to be used with wands. I recommend switching the gun and attachments to regular sized air fittings as there easier to come by and much cheaper. I've made many wands and by saying where the small angle one will fit in comparison to the deluxe swivel one is off the small one works great for getting in door bottom holes I went as far as cutting my small wand at a 45 degree right at the bend and smashed it together so it fits in the small door holes and atomizes to a very fine spray. I've put NH Oil, fluid film, and some wk sealout which isn't availible to the regular public. It's a great gun it's built to a much better standard then the other ones. It's not built for doing the entire underside of a car. It's built for cavities and crevices.
@@MegaMajormax There's a quick release like an air coupler to change out lines. I've also made a ton of custom lines for mine, which is why I changed out the quick coupler to more readily availible stuff.
Awesome vid, I'm planning on getting the Woolwax Pro gun. Do you have a trick to get the Woolwax into the small bottles? Perhaps heating up the entire can in some hot water?
Why are you still using all three products? I see fluid film being the cheap option and surface shield being a better product because of the petroleum jelly and 2 yes, but where does wool wax fit in?
Can I use a HVLP Sprayer for Mastercoat? Doing a superduty bedfloor replacement. Bed is off truck upside-down on the ground. I also have my Raptor liner and woolwax sprayer. Can I use either one of those? Thanks for all the valuable information you have given us
HVLP should work fine thin it a little bit with mastercoat's thinner worst-case scenario. I used a suction with a 1.8mm tip and used a cap full of thinner on my 3rd coat.

Have you tried the wide pattern tip for the supreme gun? Wont that cut the time in half spraying vs the pro gun? How wide is the spray pattern on the pro gun? I have a truck which is why i ask
I tried it, did not spray fluid film well at all, I had to cut it w/ vegetable oil to get it to flow and even then it came out as more of a stream 1/2 my product ended up on the ground from dripping because the garden sprayer could not atomize the fluid film
I am looking at getting an undercoating sprayer to spray my vehicles and maybe a friends. I had been looking at the Fluid Film sprayer kit, but now I see this Woolwax kit and it is a bit cheaper although not a huge difference. Other than number of bottles, is there much of a difference? Also, hard to tell but I'm wondering if the Fluid Fillm kit has smaller diameter wands/hoses and will fit in places better. Any help/info would be much appreciated.
I have a crazy idea. Maybe it's worth for you (from the content perspective and "science") to try it out and make a video about it: What about refilling empty spray cans or any kind of aerosol cans with undercoating products and use compressed air for the propellant? There are a lot of videos out there showing the process but I wonder if it's possible to fill them with undercoatings. So this could be a method for the broke folkz, no need for an expensive and large air compressor. A regular air pump should be enough to "fill" the spray can. What do you think?
They make aerosol cans that you can pour the liquid in and fill up with compressed air and spray but would take a pretty long time. If nothing else can go get one of those little pancake air compressors at harbor freight or Home Depot maybe?
Just curious, what do you clean the sprayer with when your done using it? Is it safe to let the product sit in the applicator can or should it be cleaned out and flushed with something?
I just want a premium cavity wand that I can get into the drain holes on the bottom of the doors. It looks like all are good it one thing but not everything
Can I spray cosmoline rp 342 with the wool wax gun, or is it going to throw too much material? All my experience is with airless pumps, as a painting contractor, never really played with hvlp's. Definitely think a wand will be necessary. 2002 2500hd silverado Dmax, almost done wire wheeling surface rust. Washington state, so not as bad as you get it, but they've started using that corrosive de-icer in the last 5-10 years.
I've sprayed LPS3 (similar thin viscosity) out of the woolwax gun 4 or 5 years ago... Never again... TONS of overspray, my floor was all sticky for weeks. That isn't the right gun to spray that stuff. I would call RP342 and see what they recommend.
@@RepairGeek: Thanks for the reply. I opted for the rattle cans, and gonna try an uprok adapter, to fit the fluid film wand, for the boxed in frame sections, after I treat the scraped off sections, with some rust kutter, converter. Decided on surface shield for inside rockers, behind the body plugs. I've got holes rusting through under my rear doors on both sides, from the inside, and want to be able to wash it out, to cut and weld patch panels in after snowmobile season. The rockers, and door bottoms were bed linered by original owner, so I didn't see it till I had some soft spots. Honestly we never used to have the rust issues here in Wa. So it really just didn't occur to me, until the last couple years. Spare tire carrier cross member, was the only area that had any real scale chunks.
It just started snowing here in upstate ny, and they already salted. I want to undercoat my truck, do I have to wash the whole underside and let it dry? Or am I able to undercoat it if there is salt on it?
I would wash it off, leaving it on and then spraying just entraps the salt against the frame. And 6 months later when the woolwax is gone the salt may rear it's ugly head.
Can you aDD Anything to the Surface Shield to make it black like the black version of Fluid Film they sell? If so, how much to add to the gallon container? Thanks
I dont clean them. Any of the lanolin products don't dry so I can put them on a shelf, come back to it 6 months later and they still work perfect. As far as cleaning is concerned I wipe the outside off with a rag. That's my gun cleaning regimen haha.
Not sure where you're getting $350 for the lemmers I use it daily everyday and it's $250 for that gun. Also a pancake air compressor is more then enough. No need for a large compressor.
Your woolwax pro sprayer with the 3 bottles etc, what is the best air pressure setting to use for fluid film? Is there any other adjustments ? I bought years ago but haven’t tried it yet?

My biggest issue with the lemmer is weight. It feels like it weighs 3 lbs when it's full and holding that over your head for hours a day gets hard on your shoulders. It a nice gun but to me it's not $350 nice.
by far the best undercoating gun ive ever used is an airless paint sprayer made for painting houses. you can find them pretty cheap used at yard sales. the bigger ones will take a whole 5 gallon bucket and the smaller ones a 1 gallon pail. they put the product out very fast with excellent coverage.
I've got a older stand alone Wagner airless, going to rig this up soon.. Glad you mentioned it, should be superior while using it.
I used to spray contact adhesive through a cup gun with this setup, so I know it will work with undercoat.
can you use a airless like graco or a paint sprayer?
I love your videos and attention to detail; if I'm a manufacturing company, I'd be taking notes, and paying attention..! 🧡👍👍
yep, those are supper helpful for DIY ppl!
I now use a franco airless paint sprayer. Works great but I do multiple vehicles a day
I would use safety googles / face shield to protect eyes .
The cheapest option would be aerosol with an adapter.
Great review and without any waffle.
Thanks
I've had a lot of problems with Surface Shield cans. I bought 5 and 3 lost propellent at about 50%. Only one was I able to use all of the product in the can. The remaining can I just started to use.
Great guy. Very nice delivery of information with tons of practical knowledge
0:36 I was trying for too long to figure out why somebody would call them "gay sprayers," and then I saw the first comment and face-palmed. 😂
@The Hemwick Hag a 120 gallon 5hp 3 phase. Actually the last time I used the supreme gun I granted the pressure to 125 and it worked like a dream.
That is my point exactly. It works great for inner cavities but $350 is a lot of coin for a gun that is dedicated to inner cavities only.
How do you switch the fittings on the gun and wands?
@@RepairGeek I spray 100's of vehicles a year with lemmens sprayers. You need to have more experience spraying before giving info like this.
@@MegaMajormax There's a quick release like an air coupler to change out lines. I've also made a ton of custom lines for mine, which is why I changed out the quick coupler to more readily availible stuff.
@@ryanwilson3632 I see, thanks for the info. Is this only for convenience or does it last longer with the different fittings?
Awesome vid, I'm planning on getting the Woolwax Pro gun. Do you have a trick to get the Woolwax into the small bottles? Perhaps heating up the entire can in some hot water?
2:02 that was a perfect impression of crawling around on your back on the ground hahah
Been there done that...
Cheers! I found you through Luis Rossman and right to repair. Happily subscribed today, your videos are fantastic!
What is the difference between a setup like this vs the Graco fireball 300 15:1?
Why are you still using all three products? I see fluid film being the cheap option and surface shield being a better product because of the petroleum jelly and 2 yes, but where does wool wax fit in?
Any tips on which regulator I should get for the woodwich pro gun? Thanks for the video.
Surface Shield cavity sprayer shown?
Where did you get that Surface Shield inner cavity adapter?
Almost every single inner cavity 360 spray extension nozzle are made for MALE !!!!!! TOP !!!!! SPRAY !!! CAN !!!! NOT FEMALE!!!! Now Surface Shield has female tops on the can, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find any inner cavity extension without paying a ridiculous amount of money for a plastic tube and a brass nozzle! KBS works for an insane price. You can buy extension for male spray can for under $10
@@zw7453 Funny you mention that, I ran into that problem too.
Was your question answered ? I didn't see a good answer.
@@ericfinch9642 Sort of. About a year ago, Blaster changed their cap design which renders the adapter useless. I haven't found a feasible alternate to the new design.
i just loved your video can you send me a link as to where i can purchase those 3 plastic bottles like showed i am very interested & so was your video just great video with really super nice explanation 👍👌
Any thoughts on this sprayer? Looks like it can do truck bed coatings also "TCP Global Air Rust Proofing and Undercoating Gun with Gauge & Suction Feed Cup, 2 Wands - 22"
I thought you were going to call them underbody sprayer and not the "g". Did not hear you say that once whole video lol GOOD INFO!
What do you use for a respirator?
Nice review.. fair and balanced
Do you use an air regulator on the WoolWax pro gun?
Do you have a video on how you clean your guns?
What's the shelf life of unused product? I want to use the 1gallon container so I can use a gun with extensions for inside cavities, but I doubt I'd use a whole gallon on my car. Will the unused portion be good next year?
Thx
It will be fine. The bulk product will have no issue lasting 5 years or longer in the container.
@@RepairGeek Thanks, I love your undercoating videos, I live in northern wisconsin and everything here turns into a pile of rust. I wish I'd known some of this stuff years ago.
@@RepairGeek Another question, would it make any sense to use one of the rust converters first, then use the undercoat over that? I'm trying to save a 2000 Jeep XJ, Thx
Great Video - very valuable und helpful information. Thank you for sharing.
really like your videos on fluid film, im just did my car with fluid film
how do you clean your spray gun after use fluid film
I am going to be spraying my SUV for the first time this year...I am using surface shield and the woolwax pro gun....what PSI should I be spraying at? I will be spraying in a temperature regulated heated garage. Thanks!
40-80psi. The colder the temperature of the product, the more pressure you will need. Thicker products need more pressure in general.
Have you tried the wide pattern tip for the supreme gun? Wont that cut the time in half spraying vs the pro gun? How wide is the spray pattern on the pro gun? I have a truck which is why i ask
I haven't tried it yet, but I've been told a pump sprayer like what you'd use for Roundup works with fluid film, so that could be a cheaper option too
I tried it, did not spray fluid film well at all, I had to cut it w/ vegetable oil to get it to flow and even then it came out as more of a stream
1/2 my product ended up on the ground from dripping because the garden sprayer could not atomize the fluid film
@@leightonreese1832 Well, thank you for trying that for me, that's unfortunate that it didn't work though
I wonder how the jacquard refillable Youcan would work with fluid film, will have to give that a shot.
Which gun that you reccomend 2 shoot slip & do you degrease the undercarriage of the vehicle 1st & what you use 2 degrease it with
I usually use my hands or pour it over from the roof and let it drip in. On a hot day, it gets in all the cracks.
Something like the jacquard refillable youcan ?
What is the best one for diy wheres link please
Gonna watch it tomorrow, Thanks
Is there a 10 gallon you recommend? Thanks.
TH-cam hating on “guns” yet making millions off their videos
Someone needs to tell people if the product sucks. Not get lied to by the company selling it and overpricing it.
Just curious, what do you clean the sprayer with when your done using it? Is it safe to let the product sit in the applicator can or should it be cleaned out and flushed with something?
The lanolin products don't dry. You can leave the gun full and come back to it 6 months later. It will work just fine.
Do you need a pressure regulator for the whoolwax pro gun 100$ ?
Can you slip a tube over the end of the cheap Amazon sprayer to get the product into the frame rails?
Great video thankyou for the upload
I just want a premium cavity wand that I can get into the drain holes on the bottom of the doors. It looks like all are good it one thing but not everything
What is the CFM requirement for the woolwax pro gun?
Thanks
Graphite powder works. 3/4 of a cup to a gallon.
What do you use to clean the sprayer?
I dont clean them. Any of the lanolin products don't dry so I can put them on a shelf, come back to it 6 months later and they still work perfect. As far as cleaning is concerned I wipe the outside off with a rag. That's my gun cleaning regimen haha.
Hi, what about HVLP sprayers, Specifically devilbiss flg 6? The gunman TH-camr highly recommend it
I'm not a big paint guy. I have no opinion on paint sprayers.
15:57 is it missing or suppose to have a o-ring on the pot?
Has anybody , adapted the supreme gun's quick change tip to the pro gun's tip? Are the threads different?
What about using an inexpensive (200-300$) airless sprayer (up to 3000psi)?
I've heard good things about using one of those. I've never used one myself.
Can you undercoat my car since I think I'm in your area? Based on some of your older videos I think I'm not too far. Thanks!
What do you use to clean out the sprayer, tips and wands?
Nothing. These lanolin products don't dry. So you can spray a car, put the gun on the shelf and come back to it a year later. No issues.
@@RepairGeek appreciate the reply! But say I did want to clean it out. What would be best?
Mineral Spirits.
great job...as usual
What can I use to slightly delute Woolwax? Thank you
Call them and ask.
Vegetable oil is what they (WW) say in their video.
Thanks for the info 👍
Great video!
has anyone tried using ryobi airless sprayer with surface shield?
Not sure where you're getting $350 for the lemmers I use it daily everyday and it's $250 for that gun. Also a pancake air compressor is more then enough. No need for a large compressor.
Check the link in the pinned comment and the description for the lemmer. 335 right now...
Your woolwax pro sprayer with the 3 bottles etc, what is the best air pressure setting to use for fluid film? Is there any other adjustments ? I bought years ago but haven’t tried it yet?
60-80 psi
@@RepairGeek thank you for the reply just picked up a new 4Runner need to spray it. This episode came at a perfect time . Have sprayer and a gallon of fluid film.
