Acer Predator Helios 300 (2019) | Benchmarking & Review

- Reviewing the Acer Predator Helios 300 (2019 model), with full benchmarking and gaming tests to see if this budget-friendly £1200 laptop with GTX 1660TI GPU can play the latest games.
The new Helios 300 serves up a Coffee Lake chipset, Full HD 144Hz display, and instant overclocking with the push of a (turbo) button. Solid specs considering the affordable asking price, and at least a match for rivals like the HP Omen 15 and Acer's own Nitro 15 gaming laptop. I've been testing this notebook for over a week now and the latest games including Shadow of the Tomb Raider play with a respectable frame rate, while my benchmarking returned impressive results. As long as you overclocked the CPU, that is.
No worries on the temperature front either. Acer's twin fan cooling system keeps the heat moving, so the Helios 300 doesn't get toasty after lots of gameplay.
If you're on a strict budget but still want to play the latest PC titles, then this Predator is well worth hunting down. Check out my reviews of similar machines like the Nitro 5 to see how it stacks up.

Just bought mine with rtx 2060, insane perf, but something that I noticed, and I've never heard in any reviews ever, is that when running heavy games, the power consumption is higher than the power afforded by the 180w charger, so even on sector you lose battery, soooo, limited time gaming experience, might be the stupidest idea I've ever seen.
That feeling of running low of battery while gaming at home on sector is just nuts, drive me crazy.
It just needs a higher capacited power brick, such as the 230w one of the y540...
Maybe get a cooling pad and adjust the settings a little?
@Kytrex well yes playing other games won't consume battery while plugged in, but what in find disturbing is that it still drain battery on BF1 when i lower the graphics, doesn't use the turbo mode, and keep the power option on "better battery"
Yeah, it says on their website that on heavy loads it may consume battery life while connected to ac adapter but if it ever reaches under 30% it'll stop consumption of battery power to recharge to 40% before using battery again.
That's the rtx2060 for ya shite laptops can't handle it yet cooling not good enough

he probably had charger disconnected first time as that restricts fps to 30...i too have helios 300 i7.
@@trianglesupreme yeah -- something weird there -- laptop runs awesome on normal settings for me and turbo does not offer much of a boost at all considering the noise that comes with it. Download throttle-stop and undervolt more than stock, overclock your GPU yourself and enjoy great performance and quiet fans.

Well if it were me i would go for the one with the i7 9750H and leave everything else the same except for ram 16gb for me man.
Solid choice :) Should blaze through anything for ages with that config.

@@ShishirClans his config is different, it has an RGB keyboard. That config on Amazon US costs $1400. But anyways you also get 512GB SSD and an i7, so yeah, it costs more in England.

Brother, is there any way to know more details about the display panel ? Display model number or sRGB or NTSC percentage.. I really need to buy a new laptop, but I'm tight on my budget also. I'm a photographer and i definitely need a good display with good color reproduction as my first priority. If i could know the panel model number or any other details, it'll be of great help to me.. thanks in advance..

I think - strong emphasis on think - that it's single channel. But I can check with the PRs to clarify.

Heya Patrick, depends what kind of performance you're after - but in general, the likes of the Acer Nitro 5, HP Pavilion Power etc are good all-rounders for a more affordable price

I assume the price is based on location. In the states I just got the Helios 300, i7-9750, GTX 1660ti, 16gb RAM, 256gb m2 SSD for $900 on Acer Recertified.

There's literally an open SATA bay. Acer even puts a connector cable and a rubber mounting bracket in the box. Also, there's an available m.2 slot.

Opt out for the Lenovo Y740 or Razer Blade 15 Pro. Do yourself a favor do not get anything with the problematic nVidia RTX 2060. The GTX 1660ti and RTX 2070 Max-Q and RTX 2080 Super are better than the flaky RTX 2060.

So, im in a tough spot right now, the i7 9750H 1660ti 16gb ram 144hz screen version of the laptop is out of stock, only thing in stock is the i5 9300H 1660ti 8gb ram version, is it worth it?
According to me i5 is more than enough for gaming but u need an i7 in case ur gonna stream or do something else other than gaming (like editing)
But I think 8gb ram won't future proof it so going with 16 gb will be better or adding another 8gb in dual channel will make it even better
