    FYI for anyone in 2024/2025, some newer models don't come with the inside screws. Rather the PCB is held in using four pretty rigid clips inside the case.
    It certainly makes it difficult to get the PCB out and especially harder trying to get it back in. Before putting it in, I cut off two of the four clips so I'd be able to actually slide the PCB back in.

    I own a miiyoo mini + with a 1tb micro SD with onion OS.. the extra space beyond the games has all my old tv shows converted to 480p ..still have over 500gb free ...miiyoo mini needs a Golden Award for 2023 in my opinion

      That’s awesome, I didn’t even think of using it for that. Now I’m imagining watching some Courage the Cowardly Dog and Blackadder on this, great idea. Thanks for the tip

      How’s battery life watching those episodes?

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since posting that comment I converted old flash toons to mp4 and put them on. Battery life is about the same through my usage. But then again those are animated stick figures and cartoons, watching anything with a higher framerate will probably kill the battery faster I’d wager

      @DudePingu funny you said that 🤣 I have been watching Courage the Cowardly Dog, Adventure Time, and Star Trek on there, I love how the people around me & coworkers get amazed & ask hundreds of questions 😀..

      Also, I purchased a charging stand-off esty for the Miiyoo Mini Plus with a magnetic charger. Makes watching shows and working long nights 🌙 more fun. .it's also cool to have on nightstand to dock after a playing session and be sure it's charged for daily commutes.

    I intend to make a modification to my Miyoo Plus, behind it above the triggers, there is a space, a larger speaker fits and the vacuum serves as a box to amplify the sound, the direction will be behind but that is not a problem, any larger speaker is better than these extremely acute minis, in a test I saw that the miyoo board has a lot of power to push a larger speaker.

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s pretty cool. Seems like if you pull a larger speaker from a sony/apple phone you’ll have to make some custom wire routing as well, that sounds like a pretty neat project.

    • @KermitSapo32
      @KermitSapo32 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DudePingu I did that, put a larger Samsung GT M2510 Beat speaker, pulled the wire back and positioned the speaker on top of the L - L2, drilled 4 holes to pass the air from the speaker and secured it with hot glue, the result was incredible, I'm even liking the bass now, the only problem is that at high volume the Miyoo's casing creaks a little, I think it's because it's thin and this speaker is very strong in the bass because it's from a Beat smartphone, even with the speaker facing backwards I feel that the sound is coming out of the screen, it was at least 100x better than the original, I can feel all the quality, and my ears are very sensitive to this, I am very demanding with sound quality and I liked the result, I no longer have problems with treble bursts and the sound is much more powerful, the Miyoo's audio card is very good, they made the mistake of installing a poor quality speaker.

    • @DudePingu

      Nice, that speaker is making the shell vibrate? MM+ with haptic feedback lol. Though I think the manufacturer probably used that original tin can speaker to keep the costs down

    • @KermitSapo32
      @KermitSapo32 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DudePingu yes, the speaker vibrates the Miyoo at high volume, but only with this speaker model that I tested, the old Samsung Beat GT-M2510, this speaker is different lol

    Is it normal for my Miyoo mini plus’s screen to kind of flicker when it starts up? And for the speaker to make a funny “spark” noise when it turns off and on?

    • @natpagle2628
      @natpagle2628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I also have a blinking screen and pop speaker sound at startup, as well as a high pitch noise if the screen brightness is not at maximum :(
      Everyone on the internet says it's normal, but I don't think so. The reason for this is extremely cheap electronic components and circuits design errors.

    • @ImGairBair
      @ImGairBair ปีที่แล้ว

      @@natpagle2628 well dang that’s a bummer but at least it’s considered normal and we’re not the only ones. Does yours also have a red line through the screen for a split second before the screen flickers? Mine resumes start up as normal every time but it does sound bad

    • @Funnykid33
      @Funnykid33 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Replace the sd card with a new one. If you upgrade to a samsung or actual non-china brand (mine shipped with a seapiy brand) you'll see a big improvement. When i got my 128g it was screen flickering and laggy. Reddit said its mainly the sd card they flashed when shipped. Definitely replace. :)

    Why do these units have a clicking or speaker pop noise when starting up and closing down the unit?

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hey there. I’m not entirely sure, however based on how speakers generally work I believe these phenomena are attributed to transient spikes from the miniscule cone of the speaker. Not sure if there’s a way to create persistent EQ levels to mitigate that on startup/shut off but to my knowledge it’s non-destructive and fairly benign.
      Maybe an audio engineer can provide more insight here. I’ll pin this comment

    What did you do to get the speaker working afte rit did not work the first time?

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, I cleaned the leads on the speaker and the contact pads on the main board with 99% IPA then re-assembled the MM+ with the speaker oriented correctly. The leads on the speaker connect to those pads through pressure from the case being closed, so each screw is required for it to function consistently…Surprisingly tight tolerances on the MM+, all things considered.

  • @thxp4478
    @thxp4478 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is it normal when turning off the Miyoo mini+ for the speaker to make a loud noise? and when using the miyoo mini+ the speaker makes a non-stop but very low, almost imperceptible hiss?

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So when you turn on the MM+ the speaker pops? Yeah, even with the replacement speaker it does that. Not so sure about the hiss though…I believe these phenomena are attributed to transient spikes from the miniscule cone of the speaker. Not sure if there’s a way to create persistent EQ levels to mitigate that on startup/shut off but to my knowledge it’s non-destructive and fairly benign.
      I’ll pin your comment, someone with more knowledge may be able to go further into the weeds on an electrical explanation here.

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, at least in my case the original speaker was very poor quality. The redmi 3s speaker looks like it would fit, and a quick look on some shopping websites list it for only a few dollars. I think it’s worth trying out.

    Hi - do you have link or part number of which version of the Xperia Z1 compact speaker you used? Also how is the sounds at max volume?

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I pulled the speaker from a broken Z1 Compact, however I believe the part number was E5803. At max volume it sounds clear, however grating to my sensitive ears…If your ears are normal it should be fine. There is definitely a wider dynamic range on this Sony speaker vs the generic originally shipped with the Miyoo Mini Plus.

    • @DudePingu
      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @DudePingu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, the following are the specs for the MM+:
      ARM Cortex A7 Dual-Core Processor @1.2GHz
      3.5” IPS Display @ 640×480 Resolution
      128MB RAM
      64GB Storage
      3000 mAh rechargeable battery
      USB-C Charging
      Wifi
      However if you are referring to storage, I’m not exactly sure of what the limit is. But in any case, I’m currently using a sandisk extreme 256GB and it works just fine.
