We took the trip over to the Redbull Ring F1 Track to take the G42 M240i for its first track-day courtesy of ZK-Trackdays, the car performed amazing against our track-spec F87 M2 & much more.

I traded in my 2022 M3C for a 2022 M240i. I miss the M3 a lot, however, one thing I can say is the m240i is a lovely daily, I don’t worry about getting a small nick and depreciation like I was. Also, getting 32mpg and 25 when driving spirited vs 22mpg and 16 when driving spirited can’t be overlooked. As it stands with my eventuri intake, AA downpipe, and JB4 I’m at 450hp and 460tq to the wheels. That’s only 28hp and 10tq less than the m3 was at the wheels. For 30k less I can’t justify the M3. The M240i has a much smoother and deeper note than the raspy high pitch of the s58 as well. If any of you have questions ask me! (Also, my car payment dropped by $600 usd a month)
Yeah that’s a great comparison to hear from someone who’s actually made that swap. So many people I’ve spoken too make the same comparison so it’s interest to hear it from someone that’s actually done it.
It’s no replacement for a full M but it’s a great alternative.
@@AUTOIDTV my biggest knock on the m240i is the rear view camera is complete shit and in darkness with low light you can’t see a damn thing.

Great video. I have a G80 M3 comp xdrive but the M240i has always been my 2nd choice. It’s in my opinion a mini bargain GTR.
The vehicle is really great. Especially in tight corners, when braking and the massive traction are on the plus side here. Only at high speeds on the straights, since the 2nd turbo is missing.
Yeah we were very surprised. You feel the lack of downforce and traction in the high speed stuff as it leans into understeer. But so good out of the box.
Did you run into any overheating issues? Does your car have the optional cooling performance pack?

@@GordonGreenCincinnati Well thought I’d just give my input seeing as I have the exact car in the exact color. Thought it coming from the factory to meant it was stock not oem+. Either way the car came like that for him, he did not put them on

Racetrack with automatic shifting? Well....try braking a lot harder: staying on the gas for longer will buy you time. Harder braking makes this possible. That means you have to manually downshift faster before the corner, too. Try 2 gears with double shifting, i.e. down 4 gears with 2x2 double shifting, so you can still steer the car in between.
Too late on gas. Acceleration can start earlier if you don't press the pedal to the ground. Gently but steadily pressing the accelerator before the apex will give you increased speed on the straight ahead. When is the car fastest? YES, if all wheels are straight. So turn less, use the whole track. Sometimes even on the straight you "wave" the line. No need to do, slows you down.
Closer to the inner side (apex) of a corner. If you stay away half meter every time you lose in 10 corners 5 meter against everyone else,
can you recommend the endless pads for daily use / track?
More for track. They squeak. A lot.
But if it’s a weekend toy, you could use as a fast road set up.
No, it’s a 99% daily. I’m looking for pads better than the originals in terms of heat capability but without the squeaking ^^
You paid extra $$ for the M Adaptive Suspension, drove across 5 countries to track your car, and forgot to take it out of Comfort! That would be my luck! LOL
I'm really enjoying mine, body roll is a bit much though, it's a bit boaty round corners.
Agreed, lowering it does help with body roll though.

@@jonahmarsden yeah, our car is sitting on the MSS adjustable springs as we wanted some height adjustment to get perfect fitment, MSS are not stiffer by much though. A lot of our customers are running the Cobra springs on our store, nothing but great feedback from them & they’re not expensive too!

@@jonahmarsden yes they are stiffer, more road feel, but not bumpy! They work with the factory adaptive dampers also.
Fantastic cars. I predict the 240 will be quicker down the quater than the m2. But after owning an m140i and m3's. They will never be an M car even if they are faster.

Me as an unbiased content creator that has driven both, stock vs stock the M2, but the G42 with some big power mods will be a weapon.
Well it’s not going to be better than a true “M” car. If that’s what your looking for just buy one BTW here in the states we get a Mexican build “m”, lovely. But we pay Bavarian prices, thanks BMW~
