Y’all are literally the greatest! Me and my friend have became huge fans of yours in a relatively short time. Can’t wait till you guys get over to Michigan someday
Mentioned it in another comment, but Delving is from the lead guitarist of Elder, and it has a lot of similarities with more exploratory synth and atmospheric sections. All instrumental, as well, so it works as a background soundtrack. As for other recommendations: All Them Witches and Buried Sleeper are great too.
I discovered them earlier this year as well. Such a great band. I highly recommend the live album “the gold & silver sessions”, specifically the song “Illusory Motion.” That’s the song that got me hooked.
For me, the first hit of ̶c̶r̶a̶c̶k̶ Elder was Release, mid-trip. It sent me into an out of body experience. every album they've made is fucking excellent except for MAYBE their self titled album, and even that wasn't necessarily bad.
Surprised as well to see you doing Elder, this band is kind of magic. You have a magnificent road ahead of you hearing metal stuff, so much to discover 🤘
For example, a great next discovery down this particular road would be King Buffalo (Longing To Be The Mountain, or Burning), who previously toured with Elder.
Elder is a band that I myself have gotten into the past year or so. Heard so many good things and decided to pull the trigger and I was immediately impressed. Would be cool to see some melvins, more kyuss and maybe some acid bath or high on fire on here. I feel like these are bands that are mentioned in the same vein
How do you pick a Melvins song though? So many different stuff :D. Maybe a mini compilation since their songs are not that long compared to Elder or CoL.
Acid Bath for sure. You don’t hear them talked about much unless you’re really into the NOLA sludge scene and even though they only had 2 albums, they were absolutely incredible.
Super surprised to see this ! Being one of my favorite Elder songs and not necessarily a popular one ! Made my night thank you ! :) -Also Haken - Crystallised would be a great video ! :)
It is indeed from 2017, and when I introduce them to people I usually say "imagine early Sabbath meets Animals era Floyd" to set the expectations. Very smooth, ambient, and TEXTURED is the best word I have for the sound. I sounds like velvet on my ears. If that makes any sense. Love it! Do "Back From the Grave" by Mountain Witch. Very Blue Oyster Cult meets Dio era Black Sabbath.
Elder is an absolute favorite recently. Hexe, Gemini, and Dead Roots Stirring are personal favorites. Would be sick to see you breakdown one of those down!
Hexe is my favorite elder song, I know many fans love the more proggy direction they took after dead roots stirring but I can’t get enough of the first two albums, I loved the emphasis on heaviness and groove in those albums, and while they’re subsequent albums are still quality, I wish we got one more album like their first two.
I haven't ran into a band such as Elder that evokes so much excitement, amazement, and attention to detail since I first discovered Tool many years ago. You have plenty to dive into with there treasure trove of the discography. Can't wait for more 👍
Elder is one of those bands that stick out for sure. Even within the confines of their genre. If you really like it that much, I also recommend Toundra (although unlike Elder they're purely instrumental). Tracks: Kitsune, Requiem, Viesca and Espírita are my favorites. Particularly the first one. Had me in tears more times than I want to admit.
Holy shit I can’t believe you’ve dabbled into Elder. One of the greatest bands of this generation. Hopefully many more reactions to come from this band.
Hell yeah! Elder is an amazing band and this is personally one of my favorite tracks! You should give “Compendium” a listen. It’s off of their album “Lore”
CHEEEEHOOOO I've been dying for an Elder review! If you happen to come back to this band, try their album "Dead Roots Stirring". Their track "The End" off of that album is truly incredible.
I was lucky enough to find Elder 8, maybe 9 years ago and will hopefully get chance to see them live next year. They're awesome, as are you my good man. Keep up the great work.
Everything this band puts out is gold. Next time I'd recommend something from Lore, which is the album they put out prior to this. It's a modern doom masterpiece.
So happy you finally got around to my new favorite band! Joyous Day! They're the one band I've found this decade that I can listen to any time and never have to skip a track. They don't write short songs; every song feels like an album. These guys are phenomenal! "Halcyon," off of the new album "Omens" is my recommendation, probably dropped this with you before. FYI, Elder are a newer band but they've produced several albums in the last few years; their older stuff is Sabbathy and they get more Zeppelin throughout. Oh, and, Nick DeSalvo, guitarist/singer, writes most of the licks/melodies, but the band is tight and they are all great live.
Elder. You’re delving into some amazing territory here. I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on YOB. An epic video on Marrow or Ablaze would make for some great content, and I think your perspective would be very valuable.
Here's the thing, man: I don't think I've ever heard of this band before tonight, either. Halfway thru your reaction I paused to go order this CD. So there's that -- your channel is bringing beautiful awesome killer music to people, you're sharing the love. That's what it's all about. Second, I get you when you say you're pissed at yourself because I always do that too: "DAMMIT how have I slept on this? I could have been listening to this all this time!" But then I remind myself that there's so much out there, and I will never be able to hear everything...but now I've heard whatever it is that's rewired my brain that way, and I get to listen to it NOW. It gets to change my life NOW. And that's special. That's what we hope for. And then I feel good about it.
Thank you for being such an open minded person, as well as showing so much interest in SO many types of music Geebz. It helps me feel better personally, and also helps bands and genres get to people who otherwise may not ever even come across it
Ain't it wonderful? Just made my inaugural ELDER videos for my channel, listening to the whole of this album. Spectacular stuff - organic, vital, vivid, real. Well done fella!
all your references are spot on man, as you will find they are the same inspirations for more modern bands that are as influential such as Mastodon, I'm hearing a lot of them on this track in a great way. Thanks for the video!
This is also my introduction to them, one of the best parts of this channel is that covering so much new music means you're also exposing everyone else to things they haven't heard yet. Thanks for yet another great discovery!
Oh wow...I can't believe I missed this album ...this track is absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for this reaction ... I can see why you mentioned Jethro Tull..I'm a old bobo..who grew up with Hendrix, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath etc👍😆.... I definitely got how the vocals remind you of Perry Farrell. There is definitely a mix of styles ...prog signatures..eg Rush, Dream Theater and Opeth...stoner/ sludge.. Black Sabbath , Mastodon. Looking forward to your next reaction. It's great how you deconstruct the songs. Aloha from Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘
Would love to see some more Elder reactions! Lore, Compendium, Spirit at Aphelion, Sanctuary, Catastasis, Merged in Dreams, etc etc. So many amazing songs
Oh man, you are the best! Thank you for giving all this amazing bands an exposure. Elder are just Superb! Still waiting for you to give a chance to oceansize
I've only been emotionally moved by music to the degree this band evokes twice in my life. The first was when I was a child and you can guess who... The second was Elder in 2017, after first discovering them and the genre's they fall under (Stoner, Doom, Heavy Psych, just to name a few). They, along with many others in these genres now, have reinvigorated & cemented my love of music.
Recently discovered Elder myself recently and Nick DiSalvo has legitimately become one of my favorite guitarists. Definitely on my bucket list of bands to see live. “Blind” is probably my favorite Elder song but The Falling veil, Gemini, Compendium, Or Dead Roots Stirring would all make great reactions. 🤘
Very nice to see you covering Elder. If you're into them, you might like King Buffalo. They opened for Elder when I saw them a few years ago. Would also love to see your thoughts on Thee Oh Sees
Nice Jethro Tull reference! Huge Tull fan myself and I have heard this Elder album but never made that connection, I do hear it now though. Cool stuff 🤘
Elder is a great band! Nice to see them get some attention on this channel. Maybe consider trying either Khemmis - Flesh to Nothing, Crypt Sermon - Key of Solomon, or Pallbearer - Heartless.
Elder is what I listen to when I sit down and need to get my head in the correct space to begin writing. This album actually. Phenomenal album and band, hope you do more.
Wow I can't believe you reacted to Elder! I randomly found them a few years back and instantly became hooked. My first album was Lore, and although I don't know much about composition, that whole album gives me butterflies in the stomach, it's so damn good!
Elder is exactly what rock and roll should be. Dudes that just love to play music. I had only heard Gemini when I got the chance to see them live but I jumped at the chance.
This is my first introduction to Elder and I'm really digging it. Progressive and an interesting arrangement without lacking melody. They remind me a bit of my favourite band, Propagandhi. A progressive thrash/punk band out of Winnipeg, Canada. I'd love to see you react to Propagandhi! I'd recommend starting with Cut Into the Earth, Tertium Non Datur or Nigredo. Thanks, and keep doing what you do! Alright!!
Yeassssasss been asking for elder geebz. Awwlright!!! Glad for the decomposition and hope for some on the recycle. You da man Potions by PUSCIFER on the recycle ♻️ I am still here
Nice to see Elder on the channel, awesome band! Would be cool to see you visit some Motorpsycho for a similar vibe. Some more The Mars Volta would be cool too!
Those passages do get stuck in my head too! I’ll wake up in the middle of the night with those riffs playing over and over. And not complaining. That album was released in 2017, and IMO they are all great. I like the experimental stuff from the gold and silver sessions.
Welcome to the world of Elder. It's really incredible stuff; been grooving to them for years. Glad to see people here as well enjoying their catalogue.
Great reaction of a great band. I got into Elder a few years ago from the buzz about them in the stonerrock community. Some other bands you might like are Causa sui, my sleeping karma, weedpecker and my personal favorite Colour Haze. Cheers.
I think you'd enjoy the Norwegian band Motorpsycho (named after the Russ Meyer film). They're an alternative psychedelic prog metal band with a vaaast catalog. They blend genres in an endlessly fascinating way. I don't see them mentioned often in comments, for some reason.
Don't beat yourself up about missing out on cool stuff like this. Just be happy when you find it! I just learned about them here, and I've been listening to prog, metal, sludge and other related stuff for over 20 years. Sometimes cool shit just falls through the cracks.
I fucking love this album, so floaty, dreamy and crushing at the same time. Do Compendium or Lore next! Those songs are from the album before this one. Also just gonna insert my obligatory beg for you to do more King Gizzard haha, cheers!
Geebz, are you into other genres like electronic or jazz? I think you'd really like the Brazilian artist Amon Tobin, he makes incredible and unique music from a compositional view (even though a lot of it is spliced excerpts)
I feel your pain, about 3 years ago a friend told me I would dig this band, I finally checked them out about a year later. They are one of my favorite bands since that day!
Elder is my chill zone music. They create such a solid vibe and atmosphere. The front man has a project called "Delving" that is instrumental and very cool psychedelic prog stuff.
Finally!!! Elder!!! Been waiting so long. This is not the song I’d have expected, but you’re just getting started now. Stop sleeping on YOB now too! 😜 oh god, and Pallbearer!
Great reaction. Got into Elder two years ago and their most recent album 'Omens' is another, even more proggy masterpiece. You should cover any of the first 3 tracks. Thanks again
I was living in Bangkok and received some real sad news one day that a real good buddy of mine had passed away too young. I got drunk as hell and spent the night in tuk tuks or on the back of bikes from one bar to another to another and then another until the sun came up and I spoke to not a soul bar to order beer and listened to this album on repeat maybe 7-8x. Most epically sad evening ever. But reflections will always hold a special place in my heart. X
I was recommended Elder by a fellow guitarist from the band rehearsing in their room/rehearsal space next to mine (and my band members) a few years ago and I really got into them. I dug into that genre (progressive psychedelic rock or something with stoner elements) and found bands like Mars Red Sky, Somali Yacht Club, Monkey3, Glowsun, King Buffalo, Scorpion Child, Slift, Stone From The Sky, The Spacelords and so on... a proverbial rabbit hole of musical styles with each band having their own identity and sound while sitting somewhere in the same ballpark.
You’re definitely not being Bobo! I hear the Sabbath and Tull too. You should check out “Two Minutes to Late Night” covering “Over The Mountain” featuring Mastodon’s drummer as the vocalist… He does a great Danzig too! and I’m gonna mention the instrumental version of Periphery’s “All New Materials” again… the instrumentation is so pretty and heavy and groovy.
Elder has so much good stuff! "Sanctuary" off the same album, "Ghost Head" for some heavy hard rocking grooves, "Gemini" for riffs on riffs on riffs, "Illusory Motion" for ambience of their krautrock album... I could go on, they do a lot! And it's worth checking out!
Love Elder. Just yesterday on Spotify after this song popped up another favourite A pale horse named death - Die alone. That song has a sweet brass solo
Super cool to see such a thoughtful and enthusiastic breakdown of one of our songs! Thanks for taking the time and glad you dug it.
Y’all are literally the greatest! Me and my friend have became huge fans of yours in a relatively short time. Can’t wait till you guys get over to Michigan someday
You dudes are the best. Such an inspiration.
You’ve climbed the ranks to join Mastodon and Opeth in my eyes.
Thanks for the wonderful tunes! Looking forward to buying all your albums again, on vinyl.
It's so easy to shill for such a great band.
"Sanctuary", the first song form this album is an absolute masterpiece.
This entire album blew me away massively when I first heard it. A masterpiece IMO
This album is a modern classic no BS
Beter than lore? ... no no no
@@swarm69 It's not better than lore but its reeeeealllllyyyy close. Both albums are modern classics.

Most epically sad evening ever. But reflections will always hold a special place in my heart.

Good group, I bought one of their albums.
Holy shit, Geebz is doing an Elder song
Elder has so much good stuff! "Sanctuary" off the same album, "Ghost Head" for some heavy hard rocking grooves, "Gemini" for riffs on riffs on riffs, "Illusory Motion" for ambience of their krautrock album... I could go on, they do a lot! And it's worth checking out!
Love Elder. Just yesterday on Spotify after this song popped up another favourite A pale horse named death - Die alone. That song has a sweet brass solo
This is not a Remaster, Released in 2017,
