That makes a lot of sense, Norm MacDonald had crippling stage fright, but I think he overcame it by the realization that he could never please everyone in the audience, so he just focused in on what he thought was funny and hoped for the best. After a while he got some positive feedback from prominent voices in the industry (Like David Letterman & Conan O'Brian) but he was always the comedian's comedian and something of an acquired taste, at least within his lifetime.
Even better, he found positivity (humor) in failure to be humorous to an audience so he had a (relatively) good time no matter the outcome. It's "comedian" btw

It feels like an obsession sometimes to watch multiple videos about a Comic, but I always find a lot of joy in listening to him, his jokes and understanding why he didn't own a doghouse. Love ya Norm.

Nothing that uses an A.I. narrator and a painfully grammatically incorrect script to boot is "one of the greatest" anything. The clips of Norm do all of the work here, otherwise it's one of the worst and laziest videos of this format you could make.

It's not that easy to make a video like this, his editing timeline was packed with radio clips and videos, it isn't a small feat. And the way the clips were arranged was honestly one of the best, and it included many stuff I've never seen even though I consume Norm content for close to a decade now. So, even if it uses AI voice, just because he can't afford a proper mic / doesn't like his voice / doesn't grasp spoken English well enough, this doesn't make the final work any less valuable.
Love Norm so much, fascinating and funny guy on and off stage. I’ve listened to everything I can of his, the bootlegs of his stand up are amazing. It really feels like it’s off the cuff and spontaneous( which some was ) but after multiple shows you pick up the brilliance of his performance. You got my sub brother, good luck with the channel
His style appears spontaneous, but if you see his last "stand up" where he streams from his home, something interrupts him, and he restarts one of his jokes. It was all carefully choreographed. Well, except for the times he bounced off someone else of course.

Norm is one of those guys who could never find a mainstream audience, but because of friends he made along the way, and because his whole persona became a bit of cult hit in it's own right, he kept getting stuff here and there. Helps that he seemed to love working and just love being a comedian. I think he finally found a good place to be via his podcast. If he was still around, he'd still be doing that thing. Highly recommend it to any Norm fans.
So many brilliant comedians (and intellectuals in general) come out of Canada. I read somewhere that they have a unique blend of British and American humor because that's all many of them grew up watching.

I thought was Norm was hilarious even if audience rarely laughed. I didn't get many of the current events references, but the joke always came through to me. I'm glad to see I was far from alone.
Craig Ferguson is someone to do a deep-dive on that really deserves it. He’s an unbelievable standup, terrific author, he’s written, starred and directed award-winning films, Don Rickles called him the next Johnny Carson. His Late Late Show is still such a treasure. All that after immigrating to the US and recovering from severe alcoholism and substance abuse. He even did theatre in London as Brad Majors in Rocky Horror Picture Show. There’s not a single facet of comedy he lacks in.
God bless Norm. He was such an uncompromising, great original comedian, and the best story-joke-teller of all time. He could find a punchline in a small detail of an aside in a yarn. He could make the absurd seem real, and reality seem even more absurd and funny. What a legend.
As a deeply, deeply closeted man myself, what a loss in Norm. In his memory I watch Brokeback Mountain every year on his birthday. I heard it was a Western.
Norm on Celebrity Jeopardy is amazing, and him being the car accident victim with Stallone trying to save him and Norm just naming all of Stallone’s terrible movies are sketches that always stuck out to me and they’re probably some of SNL’s best
It fascinates me how much good sense of humor correlates with intelligence. Best comedians, comedy writes, authors of satirical prose are basically philosophers, just to mention Norm, George Carlin, Terry Pratchett. When I engage with their work, it's like hearing a lecture on how to pay attention.
I think what keeps most of the world so in awe of Norm is that I think he is a good representation of classic rural Canadian humor, which is not very well known outside of Canada. It is cold, wet and miserable, and we aren't burdened with the overly enthusiastic American exceptionalism/ positivity complex (well...at least East of Ontario). People are just funny in a very honest, old fashioned, self deprecating, dry but generally good natured way. Not saying every Canadian is as funny as Norm! But I think anyone living in these windswept wastes knows one or two fellas that remind you of Norm. It is not surprising at all that we was never accepted by broad audiences. They want Ellen and Jimmy.

I was around 16 years old when I used to watch The Norm Show. It was on really late. I used to enjoy it. Norm was just born, but the other characters were funny. Then again, I also used to enjoy The Drew Cary Show.
My all time favourite comedian, and there are some very funny, very clever folk out there. A genteel soul with a great big streak of devilment running clean through him. Have felt a little sadness ever since his passing, but fortunately his voice lives on forever thanks to fine videos like this.

I miss that guy. I got to see him do a set in Seattle in February 2020 right before coronavirus. It was awesome. He got emotional right at the end and he said "I'm happiest when I'm on stage"

I miss that guy. I got to see him do a set in Seattle in February 2020 right before coronavirus. It was awesome. He got emotional right at the end and he said "I'm happiest when I'm on stage"
