@A C Yeah, I think a big part of her appeal is how genuinely clueless she is to the greats of metal and how we get to live vicariously to hearing them for the first time again through her.
This will be fun to watch! The King is one of metals true legends and an unique singer. Would love if Elizabeth made an reaction video to Messiah Marcolin singing Samarithian with Candlemass.
Diamond Bangers Assemble! The King is finally here! YASSSSSS! I can expire happy now. Blessed with a multitude of voices, timbres, dynamics, shadings, The Insane Dane is Horror Metal personified. He may draw from Alice Cooper, but his heart is Uriah Heep's David Byron (who he named his son after). I draw so much vocal inspiration from this man, it's not funny. Reinforced head voice? A defining leader. "Pretty" head voice (like here and also on "A Visit From the Dead" off of Conspiracy )? You got it. Rough baritone vocal? Check. Growls? Oh yeah. Gurgles, shrieks, bellows, caterwauls? All concert long. Adore, adore, adore. He's been singing these for decades, he was 59 years old here, surviving a triple bypass operation and a herniated disc before that. They are so ingrained in his brain, vocal tract and muscle memory, he could probably sing them with laryngitis. Let's not forget the band; they smoke on the entirety of Songs From the Dead's video, whose production and mixing is basically unparalleled in the King Diamond canon. You can hear everything with clarity, even King's wife Livia, who has accompanied as background layering since, man, '03? In the mid-to-late 80s, King was on fire, creating classics with Mercyful Fate and then his own band, one after another. If you play the entirety of this concert, you will end with the entirety of the Abigail album, played as close to perfection as possible. King is meticulous with his writing, arrangements and production, true state-of-the-art gothic metal, and Abigail stands as one of the three best offerings metal ever produced, any performer, any year, any sub-genre, along with Entombed's Left Hand Path, and whatever you think is best. My faves? Black Horsemen, The Family Ghost, A Mansion In Darkness, Arrival, Melissa (Mercyful Fate), A Visit From the Dead. If this appeals to you, check out albums Abigail, Conspiracy, Them, Fatal Portrait, The Eye, The Puppet Master.
I hope some day someone make horror films and musicals of his horror stories. The Puppet Master, Give Me Your Soul...Please, etc. is very great and interesting stories.
@@ACorpseWithoutSoul One of the best tributes to his collective works is that most of them are concept albums, with two sequels that approach how great the originals were (and with Conspiracy, I say surpass the original (Them). That's REALLY hard to do)

The spiders lullabye album was my introduction to King at 13-14. I immediately fell in love with the aesthetics, particularly the harpsichord/cembalo intros. Criminally underrated.

1987 for me. Met a drummer in Killeen, Texas when I was stationed at Fort Hood. Dude had a full Tama Artstar 24" double set that had oil filled heads. It had so much volume. Anyway he was the dude that introduced me to the King. So glad I got to see at The Moore Theater here in Seattle, Washington back in 2014.
@@austinboucher5286 That's Matt Thompson. He has been in the band since Abigail 2, in 2002. He's a monster of a drummer. Mikkey Dee was the drummer for the first 3 albums. Then he played drums on Conspiracy (the album that this song is from) but agreed to only play in the studio, not the tour. Matt does a great job of playing Mikkey's parts which are of course awesome, and does great with his own drum parts.
Welcome to King Diamond. First time I heard him/his band I knew that I was listening to something very special. That was 30+ years ago. I was completely blown away. I was hooked!
i love how he can jump back and forth while they are arguing during this concert. such a great singer. many people love Dio, i like klaus meine, but King Diamond is an exceptional singer bar none.
The fastest reminder I've ever set :) Don't worry if the lyrics are a bit difficult to make sense of. It's like trying to follow a story if you begin at chapter 2 of the sequel.
Hi Elizabeth, this is my first time listening to King Diamond and I enjoyed this performance. KD is an interesting and unique singer w/ his falsetto voice/growls. The band was also incredible; the drummer was impressive and the guitar solo was amazing. Thank you, Elizabeth!!! 💙
'Rocking out with elegance'. Elizabeth, you encapsuled the essense of King Diamond in four words! You are so spot on! Another song by the King you could try is, "Welcome Home" or "Magic". Actually there's a ton of them.Once more I loved your reaction & positivity, cheers!
You're getting some good advice on which singers to cover. You validate everything I've ever thought or tried to articulate to people about the correlation between metal and classical/related styles of music. The content you put out is very healthy for the metal community. You're a metal hero, Elizabeth! As always, your extensive technical analysis is greatly appreciated!
Hail to the King!!!! Another epic Song to listen, " Black Horsemen", there are all his voices ........... i still remember the first time listening to "Abigail" album.....if you read the Lyrics when you hear this, it will take you in another world....absolutly perfect
Last year, Elizabeth listening to NW for the first time "I'm not really a metal head, I just love good music". A year later, rocking out to King Diamond! Love it!
Elizabeth! You should review King Diamond - Arrival - Live at Graspop, as King Diamond's wife, Livia Zita, is featured prominently in the video singing backup vocals. Then you should SET UP AN INTERVIEW WITH HER! It would be so interesting to learn about how they compliment each other in their live performances!
I recommend watching this entire concert from beginning to end. It is absolutely fantastic!!! I have seen him several times and I got goosebumps watching this.
I found this video very enjoyable to watch, from how you broke everything down to how intrigued you looked throughout the video and we’re more eager to hear more. King diamond rules! 🤘
I think "Gutter Ballet" or "When The Crowds are Gone" would be more representative of Jon's voice. Also, just putting this out there: Criss Oliva is the most underrated guitarist ever.
Been watching your videos a lot as I’ve just discovered them this week. I was thinking I’d love to see your reaction to this exact same song, and artist, and here it is! Such a very cool channel! 🤘
It took me thirty years to understand the brilliance of King Diamond and I’m glad you understand what he’s doing. I finally can say after all these years I love the kings music and I’m glad you enjoyed it also.
This was such a good breakdown and reaction. Ive absolutely loved King since I first heard the song Arrival casually playing in the background once.. and I was literally stopped in my tracks and walked back and just sat down and listened to the entire song sitting down awestruck Lol. KD doesn't strike everyone like it did me obviously, But it also DOES for a LOT. And immediately after hearing Arrival, I became entrenched with the band and Mercyful Fate, And have never let up. Fortunately have seen KD live twice so far. Everything about the bands from bass, to drums, to guitars, to Kings vocals, to the stories, Just on and on.. Perfect band for my likes and taste personally.
Female metalhead here… My reaction video suggestion is “A Dangerous Meeting” from the album Don’t Break the Oath by his band Mercyful Fate. Love your channel! Thanks for the articulate appreciation of metal! 🤘🏼😎
Can't wait to see this one, he's one of my favorite Metal singers ever and has such a unique way to tell stories in his albums. His singing is not for everyone, but I love it.
The genuine enjoyment and excitement for our beloved metal is a respect that is not only welcomed but well deserved. Having someone of your caliber break it down in such a way helps to wash away many pre conceived notions that have plagued Rock and Metal for years.
Sure, she did her homework and knew that she should expect something shocking, so she was prepared for the experience, but the fact that she really took King's vocals in stride with plenty of room left over to appreciate the music, too, is really impressive! Even given a proper warning, all too many metal fans "nope out" the moment the first hint of King's falsetto vocals makes an appearance - Elizabeth took to the whole experience with a respect and joy that were really heartwarming, even making the connection to Rob Halford's unique vocal style while analyzing King's vocals in a way that few people ever do, and her excitement and appreciation were like hearing this song again for the first time. What a fun reaction!
When I first heard King Diamond, I was blown away by his super high falsetto range, and the show they put too. And it's metal, so what can go wrong? I'm glad you're digging this Elizabeth!
Black Horsemen, as so many others have said, would make for a great review. An absolute masterpiece, musically and vocally. And you MUST learn the story of Abigail!
I was about to post about that. King is a fantastic vocalist but most importantly, a great writer. The tales tied to the albums are fantastic, especially Abigail and Them/Conspiracy (with honorable mention to The Puppet Master; that bonus disc with King telling the tale in a creepy setting is so great).
Yep! I picked "Behind these Walls", "The Arrival" and "Black Horsemen" as songs to choose from. If I had to pick only one, it would be "Black Horsemen", although I find "Behind these Walls" to be one of his most emotive performances ever. He uses his normal, full voice a lot there too, and it sounds great.
Dear Madame, big thank's for this vidéo! King Diamond is THE king of heavy metal. All concerts of King is a piece of theatre. King is not alone is her head lol. But i love this guys since 30 Years now. All of the King Diamond and Mercyful Fate (same singer) album are a master piece of heavy metal. Long Live to the King. One more time thank's a lot for your vidéo. His real name is Kim Bendix Peterson.
This reaction and professional critique just further reinforces what us metalheads have always know, and what the uneducated general music listeners don't understand....the sheer talent and brilliance of heavy metal music. From heaviness, to dynamics, darkness, beauty, ballads, an art form. The riffs, vocals, melodies, harmonies, orchestral elements, and overall great song structures with purpose and a chorus. Certain hard rock and metal bands, many, especially from the 70s, 80s, and the past twenty years, are really at the top of the food chain when it comes to one of the most important forms of music
1,000,000%. My favorite genres of music are metal and…wait for it… classical. Both more effectively communicate intensity of emotion than any other genre, in my opinion.
I've got to say that watching how viscerally you react to the emotions portrayed in the songs fills my heart with delight. Particularly, when you were responding to the end part of this with the sounds of suffering. You must be a beautiful soul.
I literally just watched this concert last week. It’s awesome to see her break him down like that. His range and the speed that he switches his voice has always been incredible!
That bassist! I've not listened to King Diamond much, but during the bridge after the chorus (?) the headbanging is all courtesy of that thumping bass 😍
Underrated!? He's having a cult/legend status in almost every heavy metal fan, musiscian and in the envoirement in general. He's well respected and loved...Metallica is greatly influenced by "Mercyful Fate", mostly due to Lars being danish as Kim (King Diamond).
With this show you have an endless content to react, your quality explaining about voice and the King Diamond singing is a mix of wonderful knowledge. Some musics from this show like "Halloween", "Abigail", "Black Horsemen" and "A Mansion in Darkness" need some love too. "Melissa" has alot of clean vocal, good to react.

Awesome summation of a one of a kind artist sir. All I can say is on Friday . . . COME COME TO THE SABBATH!!
@@oglschmitt METAL. MUST. BE!!!

That's REALLY hard to do)
"The Black Horsemen" of the "Abigail" album is my favorite song of all time. A beyond beautiful ending to an absolute masterpiece of an album. It never fails to give me chills.
It shows also a huge range of KD, when he hits 1st octave notes and immediately sings his very high falsetto.
The live performance of this song from the same performance is astonishing. Mike Wead absolutely kills the ending solo.
@@OldManTenno I wish there was a high quality recording of one of his Los Angeles performances. They were fantastic performances as well! Can't wait to see King live again.
I like Vodoo even more.... But your right about Abigail that entire album is the best story of all his albums
It does give the chills. Starting with the beginning guitar all the way to the end. That beginning guitar is my phone ringtone
I happened upon his Conspiracy album in the 90s at a music store and bought it just off of album art alone. When I got home and played the CD I was blown away and have loved Kind Diamond ever since. The creativity and ability to convey a cohesive idea over the course of a whole album is just incredible. Doesnt hurt that the band is tight af and completely in the pocket 100% of the time. Absolute 🔥
Love how she's analyzing his vocals. Love how she's enjoying it. Love how she's shocked. Because king diamond got crazy insane vocals. This confirms that king diamond knows his shit. He can sing. Love how she's also checking out how they play. I never seen this live performance before. I was listening to king diamond's twilight symphony & then I was going to listen to sleepless nights because that is what I've been going through these past couple of weeks. I haven't been sleeping. So I thought I'd listen to king diamond full blast in my car. & this video pops out. When I read the title I immediately had to click on it. I was like hmmm interesting. A voice coach/opera singer analyzing king diamond's sleepless nights? Live?! Yes mam! I'll be checking out that live performance as well after I finish watching this clip.
Seeing the king live is such a great experience. I have seen him in 1996 and since then I try to make every tour

I was 16 in 1996 my brother took me. I met king and since then have been a fan. This last tour was insane. I believe I have live videos on my channel
@@evoljoe I'm not the biggest fan of King Diamond, but your loyalty/dedication to his music brings me joy.

Is this Satan's Fall? No, it's Satan's Call!!!!!
Melissa is a masterpiece
I remember the first King Diamond song my dad played for me. “The Spider’s Lullabye”…he was trying to scare me but I loved it lol.
I used it to scare my little brother once 😭😭
The spiders lullabye album was my introduction to King at 13-14. I immediately fell in love with the aesthetics, particularly the harpsichord/cembalo intros. Criminally underrated.
Meet Kim few times know Herb Simonson who was guitarist. King lives outside Dallas still I think.
I first heard Don't Break the Path at 15 in the 1984. Scared us all to death but we loved it.
So far this is the most explanatory with a lot of "on point" analysis of the vocal execution from King Diamond I have ever seen from vocal coaches, I didn't hate the pauses at all! Good work!!
Anyone that appreciates king diamond gets my vote!
King was 60 years old when doing this concert. That just makes his voice even more impressive
Filled with echo to support his carries... so there's that

That show was a masterpiece…. King Diamond is a living legend…. Thanks for the vid…
Agree
Agreed King and his band were amazing. A modern classic show
Not to distract from the King himself, but that drumset sounds absolutely perfect in my ears.
Drummer is a BEAST
Was this during or after Mikkey Dee was drummer?
@@austinboucher5286 i believe it’s after. Mikkey left a while ago don’t remember if he came back. But king usually keeps amazing people in his band
When his voice went real deep, it's because "THEY" were talking. There is a story being told.
i love how he can jump back and forth while they are arguing during this concert. such a great singer. many people love Dio, i like klaus meine, but King Diamond is an exceptional singer bar none.

Mikkey Dee used to be the drummer at the time. Later on Motörhead and now Scorpions 🤘
Listen to the full Abigail, Them, Conspiracy and The Eye albums then.
Likewise my first listen and I'm seriously impressed with the bass player.
The little lip bite and head bang at 17:41 is the best part of this video. She just gave into it and it was awesome.
She’s becoming more metal 🤘🤘
Metal is flowing through her veins now.
I was honestly amazed by how good king sounded live after his heart surgery, What a legend.
“Rocking out with elegance” yes!! Love it!!

Didn’t disappoint!! To hear this , combined with Elizabeth’s expert analysis made my day!!!
Excellent idea!
Absolutely 🍿 that would be a great interview with two very classy ladies
I recommend watching this entire concert from beginning to end. It is absolutely fantastic!!!
I have seen him several times and I got goosebumps watching this.
His differentr voices are often different characters in the story.
King is one of a kind, never will a vocalist/frontman ever compare.
I found this video very enjoyable to watch, from how you broke everything down to how intrigued you looked throughout the video and we’re more eager to hear more. King diamond rules! 🤘
Do one for Savatage, I personally recommend "The Price You Pay" and "24 Hours Ago". Jon Oliva has a unique voice.
24 hours ago!!! Yes please
I would also add Hall Of The Mountain king
I think "Gutter Ballet" or "When The Crowds are Gone" would be more representative of Jon's voice.
Also, just putting this out there: Criss Oliva is the most underrated guitarist ever.
@@SomethingWickedLives Chriss Oliva was one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time. Very skilled and completely unique.
I would go for "Sirens" or "Hall Of The Mountain King".
This song still blows me away. Years and years into KD, holds up real good.

Great song!!!
Female metalhead here…
My reaction video suggestion is “A Dangerous Meeting” from the album Don’t Break the Oath by his band Mercyful Fate.
Love your channel! Thanks for the articulate appreciation of metal! 🤘🏼😎
Can't wait to see this one, he's one of my favorite Metal singers ever and has such a unique way to tell stories in his albums. His singing is not for everyone, but I love it.
I love how she was shocked at King's high notes... when he hasn't even warmed up yet.
My favorite of all your reactions, I really learned a lot and you're enthusiasm shows what a good sport you are. Nice job!
“Welcome Home” from the album “Them” is one of my all time favorites.
First video I saw with King and then I was hooked. First album I got was Conspiracy so I love sleepless nights.
We're going to repaint the front door soon...
King is god tier! Timeless metal!
@@sorv5790 absolutely! The King sure knows how to tell a story! They would make great movies.

-Spot on!
Metal has always been a musican's genre.
The kids today raised on a simple 4 bar beat and auto-tuned robots simply can't understand metal. They completely lack the words to unpack it.
Most definitely Metal has the most Beautiful powerful ballads and some of the best vocalists and musicians out there. 🤘
