- Welcome back to another episode of Renovating a Ruin. This week I'm in the kitchen cooking traditional Italian homemade cannoli. I share some before and after shots to show you more of the history of this Tuscan villa and all the renovations that have been done on the property. And we try the new painted shutters on the main house. I have tried to make it almost all bilingual for those of you studying Italian. Hope you enjoy it! When I'm feeling low or completely overwhelmed at the prospect of so much work I have waiting, I also "surrender to the repetition" in the kitchen. Baking, kneading, or just engaging in the beauty of process that is cooking and baking helps me to solve problems, destress, and come back to the work that I love and life with a renewed enthusiasm. Today is hard, so thank you so much for reminding me.

My family and I recently discovered your videos on You Tube and we have been hooked ever since. Although my spouse and I have been to Italy several times, you have truly brought La Done Vita into our lives. I am surprised that Hollywood hasn't been knocking at your door to produce the next big romantic blockbuster. Your ability to find beauty in the things that most of us overlook is uncanny. Kylie by seeing your videos I see that I am not the only one who get chills and love to see historical places well preserved and protected from the frenetic desire most people have to make everything modern and forget about the past.

Dear Kylie, I usually write you at Instagram, but as I´m still working (it is quite late in Brazil - almost midnight - must early morning for you in Italy) I decided to watch episode 5 here. You know, I´ve had quite a hard and tiring day, it was very scorching here and I got so many stuff from work, so much stress, emotions going more down than up and I had just had some coffee before sitting at the computer again when I came through this lovely story of the farm and the blue windows and the cannoli recipe and the amazing landscapes from Tuscany, and all the details you capture so gracefully. You made my night brighter. It was the first time I sat down to relax and do something for me, not for others you know, smth to make me happy. Thanks for that. I was just thinking about you this morning, and how much your work has impacted me and what a profound importance it has to me, and then I saw this, which I of course loved as always. I don’t usually comment but earlier this week I was having a hard day and I spent an afternoon watching all of your old videos to cheer myself up. They are so comforting and inspiring and like a balm for my soul, and I admire you so much for making them, even though it wasn’t always easy and people were sometimes very doubtful of your dreams or negative. I’m so glad you exist and I’m so glad your work exists! And I’m so so glad you are getting more success lately, you deserve it so much! But I guess this morning I was think about what a shake it would be not to tell you how much your work means to me- how much it comforts and inspires awe and peace in me, and inspires me in my own dreams making TH-cam videos and most of all writing, as well as inspiring me with your outlook and the type of romantic, wonderful life we must never give up on. It occurred to me that there must be so many people like me who take such deep deep joy in your work but who are too shy to comment or who assume you have so many comments already you don’t need to be bothered by another one. I have a suggestion...when you are up and running as a business please offer harvest escapes to come pay and stay with the option to harvest the old school way. Singing, socializing and picnicking. You could get lots of harvesting done for free and tourists can get a cultural experience.

Kylie - your art/videos inspire a longing to visit Tuscany again!! In 2001, my family and I had the honor of staying at a home in a sweet village called Nicola. It was so charming and everyone was so welcoming! There was a trattoria in the village owned by Giuseppe and his family and they were so gracious, plus the food and wine were absolutely amazing! I hope one day I will be able to go back. Thank you so much for bringing the memories of that visit back to me! Grazie!!!

Love the shutter color! When I lived on St Croix, USVI, I painted my shutters to match the light blue of the plumbago flowers planted next to my house!! The house color was salmon like... I got so many compliments.

A charming episode,... you live in the Elysian Fields. I was so reminded of the hard work of renovating and landscaping my home in Nova Scotia, some of the work was backbreaking, but the results made it all worthwhile. And an associated memory of being there with my two Siamese, and my girlfriend’s four ferrets (who thought the cats were toys). The large male ferret was called... wait for it.... Cannoli! They were all named after Italian dishes (Linguini, Tiramisu, and.... Fettucini?). Have fun with the floor waxing!

So Good to hear Guido's father is in better health now. It's lovely to see how his vision for the avenue of cypresses matured so poetically. And the other buildings & renovations on the estate.
Love the ironwork beds in the children's bedroom. And the hedgehog drawings.
I never realised terracotta floors were waxed. It makes sense that waxing the floors make them impermeable. It looked like Guido was using a tinted dark wax not just beeswax polish. Was he?
I've used light wax on painted furniture.
Patina & beauty take time to ripen.
I consult an artists colour wheel if I am uncertain about complimentary colours. That's why the wisteria looks lovely against the yellow walls - purply lilac & yellow are complementary colours.
You have the patience of a saint making canolis. But at least you have the pleasure & help of a marble table top to roll them out on.....
