Hello Euge, could you do a comparing video of the St. Rock´s attenuator vs. the Fryette Power Station´s attenuator using your mic´d cab? That would be sooo amazing and helpful!! Thanks!! 🤗
As shown in the previuos video the mix between the two is the best sounding. Personally I also like to blend Greenbacks and Creambacks, or V30 and creambacks in the second place. Great video as always, cheers.
@@EugeValovirta230V recently I also tried hesu demon, Amazing speakers. Also work very well blended with other speakers (love 'em with neo creambacks, you can tell creambacks are my favourite speakers😂)
Great comparison of two great speakers. I'm personally more of a greenback guy but think both can play a different role and they sounds smoking together
For my personal taste I like the greenbacks the most. However the V30 also sounds good and maybe cuts through the mix a bit better. Nice playng and thanks for the inspiration :)
Both sound awesome! I've got Greenbacks and have had Vintage 30s. For this song, I like the V30s, they're "cleaner" and "tighter" sounding to me. That being said, both are amazing speakers for this style of music.
Both speakers sounded good, but I preferred the Greenbacks for that style of music. Many "Guitar Cab Speakers," including Classics like the Celestion, have shocking steep high frequency cutoffs around 4-5kHz! The Celestion G12M Greenback has a Frequency Range Spec of 75Hz - 5,000kHz (based on the Chart at Celestion), and a steep High Cut dropping the volume from about 107dB down to about 77dB in a nearly straight line slope in the range from around 3.5kHz to 7kHz. I'm not sure if I calculated this right, but I think that is 30dB decrease in one octave!
EUGE, have you tried EVH speakers? because I have heard these EVH speakers sound really good for fender amps and marshall amps , etc they are just really good speakers because EVH tuned them
Yes. They’re 20 watt Greenbacks which has just the EVH graphics. The speakers Ed used since 70s 👌. So it’s basically the same than the G12M 25 watt Greenback but just 20 watts so they break up a bit earlier.
@@EugeValovirta230V I would think 20 watt greenbacks speakers are VOICED difference than the EVH peavy 20 watt speakers? plus using 20 watt speakers will blow up faster because most marshall heads are outputting 100 watts
Don’t know about 20 watt Peaveys. The speakers on Ed’s Peavey cabs were 75 watts but they were voiced like Greenbacks. I owned two of those cabs back in the day. Sure if you use just one speaker but in 4x12 cab it’s 80 watts total and one hardly plays a 100 watt Marshall with everything on 10. Well Eddie did that but he used a Variac so the output wasn’t even near to 100 watts👌😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V The G12 EVH are 20 watts it says not 75 watts. YOu might have had different EVH speakers in those Eds peavey cabs that used 75 watts. The G12 EVH are 20watts so 4X20watts = 80 watts which marshall amps are 100 watts will blow those speakers. I think EVH used a variac and measured the speaker dB level with a dBm meter or something to fine tune the variac
The Peavey 5150 cabs had Peavey speakers back in the day: reverb.com/item/1070420-peavey-5150-4x12-cabinet-sheffield-speakers? The Celestion EVH speakers were launched when the first Fender / EVH amps were launched.

@@EugeValovirta230V thanks, had a read through, Amp1, my mate uses one in his Band, and he fixes Amps, as a day job, rates them very high, my Tokai LP has stock pups, but stuck Iron Gears into my son's SG, transformed a shit guitar into a good one, heaviest current Band gets, is Green Day or Foo Fighters. I use the Marshall TSL 100 combo, it's equipped with Celestions but they've been reclassified. I'm pretty sure they are a G12 Greenback (Possibly a Creamback) and a V30. The blend of the two speakers sounds great though. Best of both worlds

Can't deny that V30 sounds good here, but usually it's different case in your own livingroom. Also it's the compressed and too modern sound too... I miss having those more raw sounds if you know what i mean. Too many choices! Dunno...
Yeah it’s a different case in any room, the microphones and how you place them, the mic pres etc. I just used very basic mics and kinda ”standard” placement for those, Rupert Neve mic pres (pretty standard too) and very little processing so that people would get the idea.
Many different ones. Can’t remember what I used on this one but most likely one of these: Dunlop CAE, Dunlop Petrucci, Dunlop Cantrell, Dunlop Hendrix or Fulltone Clyde McCoy.
Ok. Cool. I use the dunlop slash cry baby original or the friedman. Im not in love with any of them. My solos get thin and lost live it seems. I will try the JP or Clyde next. By the way you are a sick guitarist
I didn’t dial them differently at all and don’t see any reason to do so; if I want the character of a Greenback I use that and V30 if I want that, if I want the character of both I use both 😎. They’re not my cup of tea at all. They’re something like 300 watts and sounded way too clean and didn’t have the breakup (even with all knobs on 10 with 2203) I really like with lower wattage speakers like Greenbacks (25 watt). But we all have our own personal preferences 😎. Thanks!
Good comparison. Both sound really great as you say, i guess it`s about personal preference... One thing about V30:s (don´t want to start a feud about breaking in speakers) but my V30 cab from nineties has a lot warmer sound than the one i got five six years ago. Wonder if there are production differences, probably yes...
Thanks! Indeed. I have three JCM800s, at one point I had five, and have played with probably hundreds and they have all sounded different. Some more than others so always when something man made (or machine made 😊) is in question, and not computer programmed ones and zeros, there’s going to be differences (in production) 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V Thats true, and sometimes you stumble on to something where everything kind of matches perfectly... Had a chance once to test a seventies 50W JMP MK2 master almost a legend here in Gothenburg ha ha... incredibly tight and smooth singing tone. Thanks for the nice videos and an inspiring channel. Cheers!
Check out the V30 masterclass video by Koelkeller studios! Nolly explains how V30s vary through the ages, and the most important factor is "when" it was made rather than where!
@@Rustinpeace117 Yeah, I also found some other video showing how the V30:s have changed. Guess I´ll hold on to my old ones. The greenbacks Euge plays sound pretty nice though but I think V30s cut through better playing in a band and they handle it well when you have a loud drummer and you got to crank it up.
Great vid! Would love to see you work out on the G12T-75 (thrash classic) and the G12H 70th Anniversary as well. It's not for everyone but as a deviant weirdo, I really like the 70th Anniversary. Once it's broken in, they sit really well in the mix. Even on its own, it's among my faves.
Thanks! If I get the 75s for free then yes. They’re one of my least favourite speakers and never recorded with those ’cos they always seem to have that weird thing that makes my sound quite distant. Just my five cents 😎.
I like G12T-75's better than V30's with my JCM800 2204 & 2205. G12H 70th Anniversary mixed w/ V30's is a great combo. Prefer V30's with my JCM900 SL-X and my JMP 2204. Never tried greenbacks but they sound amazing here.
I find that most of these speakers sound so much better after breaking them in V30s and G12H75 in particular. Greenies too but they are not as bad right out of the box. IMO, it's worth buying from Avatar or others who do it but I wish Celestion would offer factory break in themselves. It takes hours of pounding them at high volume and most people just don't have the time or neighbours who will allow it. Until then, it's Avatar Hellatone FTW.
To me both sounds like a V30 and do the job just fine. I have three UK made 800 2203s and they all sound different. When human (machine) made element is involved there’s always going to be differences even though the parts are the same 👌😎.
I have a one speaker peavey cab and a tube amp, I think I should of up graded my speaker instead of my pickups in one of my guitars, it would have improved all my guitars for the price of one Seymour Duncan
Indeed. Speakers part of the overall sound is huge. Like if you want to upgrade your home stereo system; what’s the gear you most likely upgrade first? Speakers most likely 👌😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V my amp is 20 watt 8 ohm so I think the best option is with the G12 heritage or the evh, probably going for evh since I like rock and punk tones.
Cool song! The difference is way more subtle than with the Ownhammer IRs that I use. With the IR the V30 is much clearer/brighter, cuts better with high gain chugs and busy mixes, while the Greenback is much warmer and works better with loose playing and strumming.
Thanks! Yeah it depends quite a lot what power amp, mics and mic pres were used when capturing the IRs, mic placement etc. And obviously the cab those speakers were and the room where the cab was (it affects even when close mic’ing). In my experience the best way to compare speakers is to do it yourself for real 😎.
Greenbacks for Marshall amps for me, all that clarity and chime in the mid-range, right where Marshall's shine. I feel like Vintage 30's are for Boogie amps, and aggressive down-tuning, that extended low-end is where that sound shines. And you can count on Euge's tone comparison videos, where you don't have to account for shitty playing and tone from the player mudding up the results.
For the song your playing I like the aggressiveness of the Greenbacks. Like Dank Cat said the V30's are less aggressive and more warm sounding. The V30's would be perfect for a rock ballad.
Yeah I have two Marshall Vintage speakers made by Celestion (the OG V30) made in UK and they’re awesome 🤟😎. I tried to buy the Boogie V30 (just out of curiosity) from their store but they don’t ship to Switzerland. At least not atm.
@@EugeValovirta230V why ? i thought they would ship everywhere. Then , how do you describe the tone of v30 those made in china ( stand alone guitar and band mix )

Greenbacks ripped 🤘🤘
🤟
Which wah pedal you rockin with?
Dunlop John Petrucci 👌.
Yeah buddy awesome as usual. Vintage 30s for me I need to order me a set from Mesa so I get the good ones not from China.
Thanks! Mine is from China and it does the job just fine. I’ve used Mesa’s too and those sounded also like V30s and did the job just fine.

Greenback kick ass sound. wow.
🤟
anybody else notice the circumference of the magnets?
2-25+2-30 mix!!!👍
🤟
Would you agree with me that the vintage 30 really seems to be better suited to the silver jubilee than the greenback?
It depends on what one wants. These two are my favourite speakers and to me they work with any amp. Just a bit different flavours 👌.
Greenbacks with my jubilee’s Rock the best !
@@EugeValovirta230V how about g12 65s?
Niiiiiice 👌👌👌
Thanks!

Just found your channel. Great fucking playing drac 😂
Thanks!
perhaps v30 is more juicy, but a little bit more bass
This song would fit right in on the skid row subhuman race album
🤟
RW is the $$$, my Favorite!!!
The Marshall branded Vintage speakers (U.K. made) sound very different from the Chinese Vintage 30's. Much less harsh. Just much better.
To me both sounds like a V30 and do the job just fine. I have three UK made 800 2203s and they all sound different. When human (machine) made element is involved there’s always going to be differences even though the parts are the same 👌😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V Your a smart man!
Both of these speakers would sound great in one 4x12 cab in an "X" pattern.
Of course, bother sound great, but the V30's seem to let more guitar through
I have a one speaker peavey cab and a tube amp, I think I should of up graded my speaker instead of my pickups in one of my guitars, it would have improved all my guitars for the price of one Seymour Duncan
Good choises 👌.
Greenback 🔝
Pepita hyper dances :)
😎🕺
You can definitely tell this dude loves him some Ozzy
vintage 30 for rhythm and greenback for lead
🤟
Thanks Euge, killer !!
I've got a 1960 and considering adding 2 V30's or greenbacks as I like the characteristics of them all
🤟🤟🤟🤟
Thanks! A strong recommendation 👌🤟.
@@EugeValovirta230V the g12t's are sortve Sonic so I will keep 2 in
My vote the Green.
👌🤟
The green backs has that sucked in mid sound in the vintage 30s have more mid range bite it together they sound phenomenal😎
Greenbacks sit so much better in the mix, once i switched to greenbacks i never looked back.
It’s all about personal preferences. Sometimes I prefer Greenies, sometimes Vintages and many times both 😎👌.
🤟🇮🇹
🤟
In the mix I don't think it really makes a big difference
To me it’s just where the magic difference is 😎. But we’re all different and it’s in the ear of the beholder 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V In the room it is very noticeable for sure, I was always a v30 guy but have really grown to like GBs in the last few years
Dude , the V30's are it . The Greenbacks would be good for "adding" or "stacking" tracks . The V30's sound so much better IMO
Can’t argue with personal preferences 😎.
Mix greenbacks and v30's, in the same cab and each one mic. That s what I want to here, will they complement each other, in u will ever see this, lol
Here you go: th-cam.com/video/sx9FRvM5pRE/w-d-xo.html
2203 video length, coincidence not
Also, I can hear Ozzy easily singing to this song
🤟😎
Advice : If you are a fan of v30 , please buy v30 made in uk . you can go to mesa boogie store ( parts and accessories )
That’s a good question and I’d like to know the answer too. Like this: th-cam.com/video/ZFaw-8t4tHc/w-d-xo.html
I thought the Wee Dirties sounded better for this application.
V30 just sounds meaner, more piercing, especially when you're playing high level lead guitar.
Not bad for a tattooed Hippie if I don't say myself.
😁🤟
More energy expelled with the vintage 30~ Riff On~💪
🤟
V30 for me in this comparison, but I think I still prefer the Alnico Cream Celestions over every other speaker.
🤟
