Mind blowing comment. I think I had a Randall from 2007/2009 or so with V30's. I hated it with my 5150. It was overly harsh sounding. I always wanted a more clearer, chimey but still high gain sound. Great tone you dialed in here man!

That is quite the improvement. I'm interested in seeing the dust cap on your 2006 V30 being removed (and possibly replaced with the new one) for comparison. That would let us know if it is indeed the dust cap causing those terrible tones.

The 2022 V30 sounds brighter and clearer more present in a good way. Was there any difference between the 70w V30 vs 60w V30 or was this celestion just changing power rating for warranty purposes. The MEAS 4x12 cabs went from 280w rated to 240w rated.
The Creamback Ms are about the only new speaker from them I've heard that I like as much as the vintage Greenbacks. They don't have that sweet top end breakup thing going on that Pulsonic Greenbacks have, but they sound amazing. For modern metal they rule. I'd like to slap a pair of these V30s in the cab with them. I was hesitant because I actually have six UK V30s, but I don't like those at all as they're too dark, but I also hate the spike in the ear sound of what we've gotten the last ten years out of the V30. This is really encouraging. I'd previously had a Rivera cab from the 90s with the most amazing V30s I've ever heard. Unfortunately my guitarist ruined them and I had to have them reconed, and they never sounded the same. These 2022s sound like what I remember. Damn!
@@SpectreSoundStudios That is great! I bought some Greenbacks ca. 2008, and they have never sounded right to me. Comparing them to the EVH Greenbacks might be fun.
I have an orange 20rt. It's got the "voice of the world" speaker. Which is a celestion with a slightly larger mag for natural gain . Made on the same line in the same factory. Even the clean has a little sauce on it
So how do I know which 30's that I have. I think mine maybe from 2001 or so? There is no sticker on the magnet but there is a stamp on the head basket. The centre of the speaker does have a see through dust cap.
@@SpectreSoundStudios Hey Glenn, can we get a comparison of these new ones vs the original 90’s versions? Would make for another amazing video. Thanks!
@@SpectreSoundStudios I think what you guys mean is more like... Thanks for not being f'ups anymore and going back to normal! Took you rejects long enough! 😂 Can you imagine how many people have been unhappy with their tone thinking they've been doing something wrong with their mic placement and having the wrong gear all this time? Buying expensive preamps, mics, and multiple cabs and just sucking? Personally I went in a journey that has made me buy over 10 freaking cabs until I figured it out. Thanks Celestion, for making my life a money pit nightmare with crap tone, because you guys made some manufacturing changes to save a few cents and then told everyone they were the same.. Lies!
Glenn, is a V30 manufactured in November 2021 already from this new model with this 2022 update? I looked at it physically and it has the DUST CAP on a half transparent screen and you can see the coil. What do you say?
Got me a v30 a few months ago and paired it up with a dv77 in my evh 2x12 and it's awesome sounding. Really digging both speakers individually and together. Appreciate the vid brother man.
Wow what a difference! If I've heard this without the labels, I would've thought these were completely different models. Also I didn't even realize how bad the 2006 V30 sounds, until you compared it to 2022 V30. 2022 V30 just sounds so much better. Thanks for the video, greetings from Lithuania.
I contacted Thomann about that and they told me that their current stock is made of V30 received in August and October 2022. Maybe they just took an old picture
Hell yeah! I honestly hated the V30's due to it's upper- mids sounding like a taser. It seems that they finally found the solution so I'm happy to give them another shot. Thank Glenn!
I’m sure there’s more changes inside. There’s a lot of weird physics to go into voicing a speaker. I’m just glad it sounds like they got it right this time.
@@SpectreSoundStudios not a lot of stuff it’s a pretty basic actuator. I spent a lot of time in the audiophile world testing and listening to all manner of drivers and whilst I’m not sure what all goes into “voiceing” a driver but I know this every detail makes a difference. When you make a stew you have plenty of room for a few ingredients to be sub par but when you make something like hollandaise sauce with just butter, eggs, lemon juice and salt (I add cayenne) you wanna have top quality ingredients assembled with care or the sauce breaks and your left with a gritty oily slime that has the mouth feel of eating the sound of a ( insert your least favorite Driver here). I’m still leaning towards buying some neo creambacks for my next project.
@@Fergieguitar YES especially those bass players! My Sunn 412 loaded with G12T-75s was toured with as a bass cab for many years before I bought it. I’m quite sure that’s one of the reasons I liked how it sounded compared to the other cabs they had in the shop.
@@PooNinja I have an old Peavey Butcher 4x12 with those in. That's supposed to be a bass cab as well. It's a fair bit bigger than other guitar cabinets, so it might be for bass guitar after all. And yes, it does sound pretty good.
Glenn, hi! Its been 8 month and this IR is proved to be my go to IR, it sounds just like what I imagine metal guitar should sound like, I've tried hundreds of other IRs but none of them are even close.
Glen "IM SO SICK OF V30S! EVERYONE HAS BEEN USING V30S FOREVER! NOBODY CAN THINK FOR THEMSELVES!" Also Glen "So Celestion sent me one of their new V30s and it sound great!"
Yes, it's almost like the SOUND OF THE SPEAKER actually CHANGED!!! Sorry that wasn't glaringly obvious. Next time I'll spell it out in finger paints so you can follow along more easily.
The 2022 sounded so much better overall especially for rhythms, but surprisingly I thought the leads actually sounded pretty cool through the 2006 v30. 2006 might still be useful for recording solos that stick out of a mix a little more.
When it comes to speakers, the doping is important, the surround and cone is important. The spider is important. The magnet is important. But the voice coil is key! It looks and sounds like they have redone the voice coil. Glad to see Celestion listened to the many many people complaining about the sound of their V30’s coming from China. Sound pretty damn good. But, I’m more of a greenback guy so for me, the G12 EVH is king! I’ll bet the new V30 would mix well with the G12 EVH!
It looks like the ribs in the new speaker are a little bit deeper and more pronounced. Maybe they are using a new press. Glen, ever tried the Alnico Gold's? They're probably my absolute favorite.
I controversially say that the new V30 sounds killer all around, lead or rhythm and the old V30 could potentially be nice for just lead tones since they do have that "icepick" sound. That's just me, I noticed that in the comparison when he hit those leads towards the end. Might be something to consider!
I get you. It's usually good to have a different tone for the lead to help it cut through the rhythm guitars anyway. But holy FUCK did the 2006 not sound good for rhythm...
The thing is, though, you don't need an icepick cab to cut through the mix. You can always just aim the mic straight ahead and use one mic. If you have a pretty sounding tone, also, you can add EQ without worrying about introducing nastiness; nasty sounding speakers limit your ability to perform EQ.
That new speaker sounds killer. I have a 2002 mesa cab withwhat’s supposed to be the “golden era” of v30 and it’s noticeably darker and fatter than any newer v30 loaded cabs I’ve ever used. The new 2022 v30 just based on your demo clips sounds a lot like my old 2002 recto cab. Less shrill highs and more of a full fat tone. I’m really impressed and glad to see celestion getting their shit together.
Holy balls Glenn! Once you showed the comparisons in a mix at the end here I couldn't believe JUST how bad the 06's are vs the 22's! If I didn't know better I'd have sworn there was some eq fuckery going on there. Having watched your content for some time now I knew there'd be a significant difference, but I wasn't expecting THAT much difference. Just unreal! Kudos to Celestion for finally getting it right (again)! Thanks for this man. Just like your playing, your vids just keep getting better & better.
That new one sounds great. Did they happen to say if they stepped up their game in 2022 or had they been doing it for a couple of years or so and we’re only just hearing about it?
I know I'm in the "what the hell is wrong with that guy?" minority here... But I NEVER liked V30s. They always sounded great on everyone else's records, same with the Mesa Recto heads, but I just hated the ones I've owned. I always preferred the 1960 cabs loaded with Gt-75's. Everyone thinks I'm an idiot whenever I say this, and every impulse response I've found of the 75's is AWFUL, but man those cabs... muah! I just found them to be much warmer and overall midrange focused, and that helped them sit in a mix more cozily I.M.O. You fucking rock G!!
That clear dome / dust cover is probably making it easier for the entire cone assembly to move. I don't mean simple F=MA. I'm talking squeezing the air inside the speaker itself. It could be that removing that damping factor is what is making all the difference. Less work for the voice coil. That probably also opens up room for more harmonics from the cone. Is the cone material any different? It is mass that has to be accelerated. It also can't be infinitely rigid, so it will have waves in it. I believe there are videos on TH-cam showing speaker cones moving with high frame rate video so you can see all the flex that's going on. There's some definite complexity going on with what seems like a simple transducer.
I have a mix of stock eminence legend v12s mixed with vintage 30s in my Soldano 4x12. They actually pair really well at taming the spikiness, I didn’t even realise they made them differently over the years until I saw your video, very informative 👌🏻
I’m blown away, a V30 I actually enjoy. Every time you switched to the 2006 I screamed “RESONANCE” internally. I was relieved with the 2022. Thanks so much for the work on this video and for pushing for a positive change Glenn, this opens up some upgrade options for sure. Great to feel like customers are heard.
8:15 2023 V30 12:13 2006 V30 Here's the specs off the label of the new models that FINALLY sound like they were always supposed to after all of these years of these inferior V30's being sold, with Celestion insisting there was no difference at all, and that they had ALWAYS been made the same way, gaslighting everyone as they had for so many years (and yeah, I had a number of conversations with them, always ending in absolute frustration, just as Mr. Frick shared in not only this, but also in a couple of follow up videos telling how others, like Thomann were STILL claiming there was never any difference between any V30, which for anyone with a good set of ears knows, is absolutely not the case) - Celestion T3903A Vintage 30 8 Ohm 50 BH25 GL375816009 Made in China 2022/2023
Most of us call a voice coil cover the dust cap. Yes, think of it like a dome midrange fairly well glued to the voice coil, it radiates the mid and high frequencies just like a dome midrange. If it is hard and not well damped it will break up harshly with wide peaks and dips in the response, well damped and it can provide a smooth response.
i think that the newer vintage 30s have that "4k" which JoeySturgis and Co. have been joking about for quite a while, also the fact that it doesn't really as grinding as the older vintage 30s because of the scoop.
I mean. Those are different enough, that it just comes down to preference. I massively preferred the clarity in the Mix of the 2006 V30, especially on the leads. Or are the labels wrong?
Wow! The difference is not subtle. But since Glenn seems to have recorded it straight out of the box.....man I wonder how good it would sound after its been broken in after a while. Holy Moly!
I never would have thought that something as little as the type of dust cap would make such a huge difference on the same model speaker. And who knows, maybe they did something different with the voice coil wire as well. Either way, it sounds huge. Thanks Glenn for once again driving home the point, that the speaker is the most important part of our guitar tone.
Whoa Glenn!! Apart from the terrific sound, there was some serious vicious picking going on! Me as a dedicated rhythm guitarist I'm very impressed by your picking hand action lately. Also this is how you can figure a good tone. With actual chords and licks, not with senseless fiddly biddly. Now please pair the new V30 with a Greenback.Greetings from Germany P.S.: how dare you testing a brand new speaker?! They're supposed to be broken in for 209654h. /Sarcasm
I would have said the same thing about speaker break in but I bought a new amp for the first time in 20 yrs and it definitely didn't sound like it did when I tested it until about two weeks later. It definitely smoothed out a bit.
@@Stpddmbfckit should be a discussion. I’ve never seen any tests done that show any difference before and after. The only one I can find shows no difference after burn-in, and the differences between the “burnt-in” speaker and the control stayed the same. Everyone’s got a story about how their new speakers sounded like shit but slowly got better and now they love them, but until I see any actual shred of evidence I’m chalking that up to people just getting familiarized with how those speakers sound. I thought my studio monitors sounded dull and muddy when I got them and I couldn’t mix particularly well on them, but after about 20-30 hours using them I think they sound great and my mixes have improved dramatically. The thing is, the speakers were used when I got them and already well-worn.
Does Celestion offer a re-cone kit? Maybe if one is stuck with the 2006 model they could upgrade it to 2022? I wonder what other differences there might be? 🤔
Bro, nobody is talking about that demo performance, those riffs and solos were absolutely amazing!! Please tell me if it was composed for this demo or is it a fragment of any song, loved it!!! Keep pushing the awesome work
I stopped using vintage 30's a long time ago like 94, as the cones rubbed inside the coil guide. Sounded like scraping when mic'ed. I tried 4 new out of the box and ran 48 hour break in at 25 watts with various frequency ramps. 2 of them didn't improve. I gave them to someone who didn't mind the sound. Hopefully these will be super improved and bring back the brand line.
And that's most likely thanks to the dust Nolly got off the V30 topic with him nerding out on it. It's insane how much Nolly influenced the metal scene: Darkglass & Bass tones, Dingwall, now after every metal producer and guitarist listened to his preach about the difference in V30s, it got enough traction for Celestion to make a change. Absolute insano style alpha.
tbf the ding glass dark wall is quite a breath of fresh air compared to the scoop machine aka sansamp but as the saying goes "if a man found something that worked for him, everyone will also try to find it"
@@alrecks619 It was, for sure. Now everyone uses Darkglass/Parallax and Dingwalls and i got bored by it. Looks like in terms of bass we can only have one thing at the same time.
This makes me think, since the dust cap is producing the higher end of the frequency range. As an experiment, would you consider pulling off the dust cap of the 06 speakers and see if it brings the sound back around? WHAT IF that’s the problem??? Would be a great variable to consider of dismiss.
I think it’s a carryover from players who have live rigs vs. studio players. A mid focused 30 is what you need to push a crowd in the face, and I’d take a MUSTAINE 1960DM cab loaded with 30’s all day on stage… Yet, i agree, when tracking my guitars, a 30 impulse is my last choice. 😮
I find that a few V30 impulses sound great but most have that harshness, and I could never figure out how IR's with the same cab, speakers and mics could sound so totally different - it makes sense now that the few great ones were likely done with pre-2006 speakers and the rest done with post-2006.
Given you like the EVH speakers I'm curious what you think of EVH cabs? I recently bought a new EVH cab that was supposed to be loaded with Anniversary 30W, but when I opened it up I found "G12H-EVH" which, in addition to having an "H" magnet designation, also looks different than the G12-EVHs I see for sale online (no plastic cap and slightly different label). A bit of a mystery--but I suspect EVH relabeled a G12H Anniversary. An EVH speaker video would be interesting.
Wow, when switching back to the 2006 version it sounded like turning off a notch EQ used to dip out annoying resonances. Also: great performances on the demo song!
I think this is the first time I have actually liked the sound of a Vintage 30. There's definitely a big difference in sound, especially in the mix! I really liked the A/B comparison. It was like night and day. Also would you be able to do a studio tour sometime? Seeing the cab room actually got me very interested in how you have it all set up.
Interesting how we all have our own "benchmarks" for what we consider to be the best metal rhythm sound. Mine's As Daylight Dies from Killswitch Engage. Love that sound. The tones from My Curse are just spectacular.
For me, it was Shadows are Security by As I Lay Dying -- that's what inspired me to buy a used Peavey 5150 with the OG cab with the Sheffield 1200 speakers that I'm looking to replace with this V30!!
Hi Glen, Mate great work & great humour 👍 I am in Sydney Australia and picked up my new V30 with manufacturing code MG 10. December 2021, it has the fine wire mesh in the cone, like your one in the video. Think I can rest assured I have the new speaker like the one you demoed? Thanks for being our voice on this stuff mate. 👍
You just sealed the deal on me buying a new G12 Vintage 30. Thank you! My G12E-60’s sound like shizzle 💩 when I close mic em. They’re very muddy in a bad way. Your recordings sound great!
I just bought brand new V30s for my 2x12 60 watt 5150 iconic combo amp. I really like the improvement over the speakers that came with the amp. I'm thinking about changing one of the v30s to a greenback. We'll see.
Those 2022's sound fantastic. Is there perhaps an interesting tone to be found when blending both the 06 and 22 speakers? Pretty much like how you blended the EVH with the Hempback in a previous video.
I was getting that fizziness on my old Vintage 30 - I wondered what all the fuss was about compared to the creambacks, etc. The new one, though. That is a nice sound. I hear that fizziness and want to run away! I get that it cuts through the mix, just not in a good way. So glad to see the new and improved.
Huge difference!!! Damn. The 2006 ones sound like sandpaper on my brain. Seriously, you must have been using a ton of post eq to get them to sound decent.
Bought my first set of V30's (212) in 1993. They were fantastic for Blues and Classic Rock. They started getting tired by 2005. I chased the speaker dragon for a while, relented and bought a new pair in 2010 and was not happy. Downsized to 112 and used an Eminence Red Coat, worked well for me.
Great video Glen! I just got a Harley Benton 2x12 vintage. I've pulled it apart to rebuild/improve the cabinet. After watching this I had to go and check the speakers.... I was very happy to see it came with the 2022 "H" designation and clear coil covers. The HB 2x12 is such a bargain anyway. But now it seems even better.
I know you have been talking about moving away from from the stock V30 tone and recently did a video with mojo tone speakers and my custom cab maker has a really unorthodox pairing. In my 2x12 he put Mojotone Vintage (V30 knock off) and a Mojotone Anthem ("Fender style" knock off). The combo is pretty cool, the frequency response of each speaker is so different that they fill out each other so well. I also just like the idea of mixing "American" voiced speakers with "British" voiced speakers to get a well rounded tone. Its a cool idea to get away from the straight V30 tone.
i’ve always hated V30 cabs until a few months ago I bought a bogner and was really impressed that I didn’t change the speakers out immediately, knowing that it’s been changed definitely makes sense
I’m building a 1x12 speaker cab this morning, and the 1-year-old v30 I have that was made in china is very nicely made and sounds killer. It was wrapped like yours too.
Do you think that the fact the new speaker isn’t “broken in” affects the sound? I heard about how EVH used to put his new speaker cabs in a storage unit with a head on full blast to “break in the speakers” and get them moving and a little looser. Not sure if that is officially a thing or not
Yeah, those new ones sound so much better. When did they do these updates? I recently bought a Harley Benton 2x12 with V30’s and am curious if they’re the updated version without opening it up.
I have an orange ppc212 and I never got a long with it, now I may know why. My question is should I give the new improved v30's a chance or just order from the Mesa shop and get those UK made ones? Or maybe try something different... I don't know.
Trying to train my ears a bit and learn: In the room and with a 212 cab would just putting one of the improved vintage 30s manage to open the top end up (new speaker adding something). Or is it that you would need to replace both (to subtract something nasty).
I have two sets of old Celestion Greenbacks from the early 70's. One set was from a "Tagus" 4x12, and the other four from a "VT" 4x12. I always kinda liked them but do they compare more with the vintage 30's from 2005, or 2022, or are they different from either of them. I've never compared them with anything else. Anyone know? thx.
Glenn, the lack of low end that you mentioned... would that be because its not broken in? wouldnt the speaker "warm up, and throw better low end" after being "broken in"
I have a 90's V30 sitting in a closet that I plan to put into an Egnater Rebel 1×12 cab. I also used to have one from sometime after 2010 that I put into a Marsball 2x12 cab with the 90's one. When I sold the cab, I put back one of the Seventy Eighty speakers it came with and then kept the 90's speaker. I always assumed the difference in the speakers was due to the 90's one being more broken in. My other cab has 2x10 in the top and another 90's v30 in the bottom. This is the most amazing cab I have ever owned. The 10's are some sort of Eminence speaker. The pairing with the V30 makes for a very thick and detailed sound.
The 2006 is what our V30's actually sounded like.
The 2022 is what we thought our V30's sounded like.
Ha!!! Totally agree with you.
Nailed it!
No wonder why my friends V30 sounds way too harsh compared to my new ENGL cab. Good to see mine has that transparent cap.
Mind blowing comment. I think I had a Randall from 2007/2009 or so with V30's. I hated it with my 5150. It was overly harsh sounding. I always wanted a more clearer, chimey but still high gain sound. Great tone you dialed in here man!

The new one makes the mix sound like early 2000s/late 90s. Good job, Celestion!
Agreed, Celestion did a fantastic job with it!
Can you imagine how many people have been unhappy with their tone thinking they've been doing something wrong with their mic placement and having the wrong gear all this time? Buying expensive preamps, mics, and multiple cabs and just sucking? Personally I went in a journey that has made me buy over 10 freaking cabs until I figured it out.
Thanks Celestion, for making my life a money pit nightmare with crap tone, because you guys made some manufacturing changes to save a few cents and then told everyone they were the same.. Lies!
@@Kevin.Kelly. I would absolutely love to see the 2022 against the 2001-2003 V30s as well as the 90s ones too!
No....
Glenn, is a V30 manufactured in November 2021 already from this new model with this 2022 update? I looked at it physically and it has the DUST CAP on a half transparent screen and you can see the coil. What do you say?
I have the same, bought it today in Sydney Australia
What a huge difference in sound. Thanks for sharing this Glenn.
It's not a subtle change, that's for sure!

The thomman link you mentioned that sells the v30s has the wrong serial number compared to the 2022 v30s you received.
I contacted Thomann about that and they told me that their current stock is made of V30 received in August and October 2022. Maybe they just took an old picture
@@philippemartignier9858 Ok, thanks for the news.
The v30 really is old, but it still kicks ass. Kinda like an old war vet
Yeah or that ole hooker at the truck stop suckin em like pro that started out at the strip joint
where is your link to the v30 models/Versions years etc. ?
Hell yeah! I honestly hated the V30's due to it's upper- mids sounding like a taser. It seems that they finally found the solution so I'm happy to give them another shot. Thank Glenn!
so how do you make sure this is what you get when you order one? I'm afraid of ordering and ending up with the same crappy ones i already have.
I’m sure there’s more changes inside. There’s a lot of weird physics to go into voicing a speaker. I’m just glad it sounds like they got it right this time.
Hmmm.. well, we did a visit to the UK factory & that's the thing... there's not a lot going on inside.
And give it time to break in.... interesting it's that good right out the box!
The difference is incredible. That first tone was instantly fantastic
Sadly itll be a while before the cabs in store have the better sounding v30
It'll be even better with 6 months of heavy gigging.
Glen "IM SO SICK OF V30S! EVERYONE HAS BEEN USING V30S FOREVER! NOBODY CAN THINK FOR THEMSELVES!"
Also Glen "So Celestion sent me one of their new V30s and it sound great!"

@@SpectreSoundStudios Hahaha Love that comeback ...LMAO !!!!
The 2022 sounded so much better overall especially for rhythms, but surprisingly I thought the leads actually sounded pretty cool through the 2006 v30. 2006 might still be useful for recording solos that stick out of a mix a little more.
Wow, I thought I'd be straining my ears to hear the difference but it's huge. These 2022s are amazing, grabbed that IR, thanks so much.
I use my Line 6 cab with V30s when I want that Randy Rhoads “Icepick” Altec tone.
If you have a pretty sounding tone, also, you can add EQ without worrying about introducing nastiness; nasty sounding speakers limit your ability to perform EQ.
no controversial. Glenn is just a dork.
Did celestion say when they made the change?
That new speaker sounds killer. I have a 2002 mesa cab withwhat’s supposed to be the “golden era” of v30 and it’s noticeably darker and fatter than any newer v30 loaded cabs I’ve ever used. The new 2022 v30 just based on your demo clips sounds a lot like my old 2002 recto cab. Less shrill highs and more of a full fat tone. I’m really impressed and glad to see celestion getting their shit together.
Did I miss the link for website with serial number time codes? Anybody have it?
That was the same question I had as well.
TOTALLY agree with you! G12T-75's all day every day!
In before Glenn's playing gets him a copyright strike... The perils of getting better.

Here's the specs off the label of the new models that FINALLY sound like they were always supposed to after all of these years of these inferior V30's being sold, with Celestion insisting there was no difference at all, and that they had ALWAYS been made the same way, gaslighting everyone as they had for so many years (and yeah, I had a number of conversations with them, always ending in absolute frustration, just as Mr. Frick shared in not only this, but also in a couple of follow up videos telling how others, like Thomann were STILL claiming there was never any difference between any V30, which for anyone with a good set of ears knows, is absolutely not the case) -

lol Blend?
Most of us call a voice coil cover the dust cap. Yes, think of it like a dome midrange fairly well glued to the voice coil, it radiates the mid and high frequencies just like a dome midrange. If it is hard and not well damped it will break up harshly with wide peaks and dips in the response, well damped and it can provide a smooth response.
i think that the newer vintage 30s have that "4k" which JoeySturgis and Co. have been joking about for quite a while, also the fact that it doesn't really as grinding as the older vintage 30s because of the scoop.
ok here we are in June of 2023 and where are the new speakers? have seen one sold anywhere, whats going on with it?????????????
Funny, people told me I was stupid for not liking the cheap Chinese version that Celestion was making. They said they were identical. Heh.
I mean. Those are different enough, that it just comes down to preference. I massively preferred the clarity in the Mix of the 2006 V30, especially on the leads. Or are the labels wrong?
Love when Glenn talks about bands like carcass and alestorm which I love haha. Good stuff as usual man love this video format
Glad you enjoyed!
Sim away from dust cap sometimes on a track and see
A terrible sounding amp will still be a terrible sounding amp regardless of the speaker
Wow, what if you experiment changing the dust cap on the 2006? would that alone make a big difference? (For the better, I hope...)
Now please pair the new V30 with a Greenback.Greetings from Germany
P.S.: how dare you testing a brand new speaker?! They're supposed to be broken in for 209654h. /Sarcasm
I would have said the same thing about speaker break in but I bought a new amp for the first time in 20 yrs and it definitely didn't sound like it did when I tested it until about two weeks later. It definitely smoothed out a bit.
No need for sarcasm, breaking the speakers in makes a very noticable difference. Thats not even a discussion actually.
Damn i feel like the diffrence in the mix is even bigger. It just makes it sound so massive and fits perfectly with the rest of the instruments
Bro, nobody is talking about that demo performance, those riffs and solos were absolutely amazing!! Please tell me if it was composed for this demo or is it a fragment of any song, loved it!!! Keep pushing the awesome work

For the 2006 V30, Line 6 Spider's "Fried Assholes" preset comes to mind.

Insaneo style!!!!!
tbf the ding glass dark wall is quite a breath of fresh air compared to the scoop machine aka sansamp but as the saying goes "if a man found something that worked for him, everyone will also try to find it"
@@jaroswave Stop trying to make insaneo style a thing Joel!
Thank you Celestion for making Vintage30’s great again 😂
could you make an IR for that one, would love to have it since I cannot get them :( thanks!!!!
Have you tried the Divinity 77 by Eminence?
🙋♂️
I think this is the first time I have actually liked the sound of a Vintage 30. There's definitely a big difference in sound, especially in the mix! I really liked the A/B comparison. It was like night and day.
Also would you be able to do a studio tour sometime? Seeing the cab room actually got me very interested in how you have it all set up.
I'm cool with both, I think you can find an application for either speaker
Interesting how we all have our own "benchmarks" for what we consider to be the best metal rhythm sound. Mine's As Daylight Dies from Killswitch Engage. Love that sound. The tones from My Curse are just spectacular.
yeah i like that sound too, kse tones mostly rule. i also like the tone on parkway drives Horizons
For me, it was Shadows are Security by As I Lay Dying -- that's what inspired me to buy a used Peavey 5150 with the OG cab with the Sheffield 1200 speakers that I'm looking to replace with this V30!!
Hi Glen,
Mate great work & great humour 👍
I am in Sydney Australia and picked up my new V30 with manufacturing code MG 10. December 2021, it has the fine wire mesh in the cone, like your one in the video. Think I can rest assured I have the new speaker like the one you demoed?
Thanks for being our voice on this stuff mate. 👍
Such a massive difference. The V 30 sound to me has always been too harsh. Maybe not anymore. Thank you🤘🏻🤘🏻
You just sealed the deal on me buying a new G12 Vintage 30. Thank you!
My G12E-60’s sound like shizzle 💩 when I close mic em. They’re very muddy in a bad way.
Your recordings sound great!
Wow, the 2022 definitely cuts through the mix a lot better than the 2006. Seems to add just enough to the mids. Nice demonstration Glen.
I just bought brand new V30s for my 2x12 60 watt 5150 iconic combo amp. I really like the improvement over the speakers that came with the amp. I'm thinking about changing one of the v30s to a greenback. We'll see.
Clayman & CoB's Hate Crew were the elusive tones for me lol. They're really iconic! This new V30 speaker probably makes it way more achievable live!
Most definitely a huge improvement! Thanks for the video and IR!
hey glenn, question: why do you mount speakers from the front of the cabinet baffle
I just got a Harley Benton 2x12 horizontal cab. I wonder if it has these in it?? Gonna have to open her up! Another awesome video Glenn! FU
Real question now is where can I buy a V30 and be sure I'll be getting one of the new ones
WOW, massive improvement! Great job Celestion! Great video (as usual) Glenn!
I have an orange ppc212 and I never got a long with it, now I may know why. My question is should I give the new improved v30's a chance or just order from the Mesa shop and get those UK made ones? Or maybe try something different... I don't know.
The Mesa V30 are voiced differently per Mesa’s specs/wants
Wait, so what would happen if we just removed the dust cap? Does the speaker technically even need it?
Trying to train my ears a bit and learn: In the room and with a 212 cab would just putting one of the improved vintage 30s manage to open the top end up (new speaker adding something). Or is it that you would need to replace both (to subtract something nasty).
I have two sets of old Celestion Greenbacks from the early 70's. One set was from a "Tagus" 4x12, and the other four from a "VT" 4x12. I always kinda liked them but do they compare more with the vintage 30's from 2005, or 2022, or are they different from either of them. I've never compared them with anything else. Anyone know? thx.
These are the videos ive been missing! thank you!
Glenn, the lack of low end that you mentioned... would that be because its not broken in? wouldnt the speaker "warm up, and throw better low end" after being "broken in"
How long until I can buy the Glenn Fricker IR of this tone?!

@@SpectreSoundStudios Apparently I have to start reading the descriptions...also amazing it's free!
