Props to the Sweetwater video editor for the 80s colorfilter in a 4:3 aspect ratio. I'm right back to my childhood. Nick and Satchel are always the best.
My great-grandfather was in the same class as Satchel. He said he was a really cool guy, a good guitar player, and that Satchel had the same hair back then.
I attended the Guitar Institute at the same time as Russ (Satchel), he came in when I was halfway thru. He was a good guitarist before getting to G.I.T. and was very young. I loaned him my gear for recording his demos with Jeff Martin, in the band Bad Dog. There's a few concert videos of Bad Dog on TH-cam where Russ is using my gear and blue Ibanez. Can't say enough good stuff about Russ, cool guy.
That Rush comparison at the beginning actually blew my mind, I have listened to Xanadu many a time and never thought it had a sweet child o mine vibe until he pointed it out.
What a cool video! Satchel busts out some seriously obscure riffs (E-Z-O??? I thought I was the only guy who bought that.) I spent too much time back in the day reading Metal Edge, Circus, Hit Parader, RIP, and liner notes of every freakin' album I bought. I was absolutely stunned and delighted by Satchel's choice of riffs for this. Just saw Steel Panther play in Silver Spring MD on 12/5. Amazing show!
This is something really great, I need to revisit this with the guitar in my hands. Whenever I have the chance to throw a riff at someone it's a pleasure.
Satchel showing those vocal chops too, what a supremely impressive 80 something year old stud! 🎸 🤣 I hope there's more of these, if I see Nick, Satchel or Uncle Ben Eller I click immediately every time. Awesome.
Nick is always class and Satchel is such a hilarious nut. The chemistry these two have bouncing back the quips and jokes is just great I could watch this all day. 🤣
It's funny that he mentions Judas Priest because Satchel AKA Russell Parrish was actually in FIGHT, the metal band inspired by Pantera fronted by Rob Halford in the 90's! BUT believe it or not Satchel is too humble to bring that up but I am NOT!!lol Great to see Satchel, he always cracks me up!
These guys should have their own show... took me back to some favorite songs from my past... love the humor and all around banter! Make it happen!!! please?!?
Nice Scorpions shoutout, people always mention the 70's songs with Uli Jon Roth & Michael Schenker, but their 80's songs are really great stuff and Rudolf Schenker & specially Matthias Jabs deserve more love. Rudi Schenker is an absolute riff master & Jabs always has some super tasty solos and amazing tone.
Behind all the jokes, Satchel is one of the greatest ! Steel Panther is going to come up with THE NEW STANDARD Rock album one of these days, and it's going to leave everybody speechless ... 'cause they definitely have it, and they can.
Fast Eddie “Say What You Will.” Top 10 all time. Criss Oliva “Power of the Night.” Definitive Metal Riff. Mark Reale “Thundersteel.” That riff Invented a genre.
Cool video with Satchel! I had gone all over the place for years to see the Atomic Punks. They always totally rocked! Ralph could sing like David Lee Roth better than anyone on the planet! :)
I remember seein DD playing in the Woodstock bar in Keleen TX in the mid 80s when he was about 16. Killing it even at that age. I still have a copy of Projects in the jungle
Brilliant show guys...somehow I missed Steel Panther. Satchel You are a showman and I mean that in the best way...this 56y.o. is now going to start a SP deep dive. Keep on rockin guys👊
Absolutely Loved the old skool RAVEN reference!! Absolutely One Of My All Time Favorite Thrash/True/Power Metal NWOBHM BANDS As Well!! I've seen them live 3 Times as well!!! And not to mention I actually hung out with John and Mark, and Joe, (their former old skool Drummer and Metal Legend, Joe Hasselvander!! The absolute nicest coolest and funniest most humble dudes ive ever met as well!!!

I wanted the 1987 Delay /Distortion pedal for Christmas 🎄 😕 they sold out 😢 😂
Thank God for Satchel. He's a national treasure and I hope he never changes. He appears to never age, so that's good.
He looks amazing for an 88 yr old.
He's funny as heck.
This was filmed in 1983
When he's off camera they put him into cryosleep.
Great wig to 🤘😎🤘
That devastating feeling when you select 4K and it's still in 240p.
Brilliant video!
it had to be authentically 80s, in every way 😂
It was shot in 4K, then they copied over to an S-VHS tape, then copied it back to the pc and uploaded it to TH-cam.
@@owenheuston9571nice move,i will always love so watch in VHS style.
Props to the Sweetwater video editor for the 80s colorfilter in a 4:3 aspect ratio. I'm right back to my childhood. Nick and Satchel are always the best.
Satchel is an encyclopedia of killer Metal and Hard Rock riffage. His sense of humor makes his all around talent so much more incredible. 🤘🖖
Appreciate the George Lynch love - truly an American Legend. 🇺🇸🎸🔥
Warren Demartini too.
George Lynch is an Unicorn among guitarists. You can instantly tell its him playing
George is an American frickin treasure.
Go listen to hear n aid weer stars. George's solos stand out. You can tell when he's playing over the other players. 33 or so solos in a row.
The riffs are endless and timeless. Makes me feel even more fortunate to have been a teenager in the 80's. Thanks for doing this!
Great to see Nick again! Always cool seeing Satchel jamming with you! 🍻
So great they kept the old clips. Seeing this video even though it was shot in 1985 is awesome
Man I love this. This should be a regular thing. I love hearing the history and seeing them play.
Have a friend who attended Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood the same time as Satchel. Has nothing but nice things to say about him.
My great-grandfather was in the same class as Satchel. He said he was a really cool guy, a good guitar player, and that Satchel had the same hair back then.

Can't say enough good stuff about Russ, cool guy.
He’s possibly the nicest, funnest, most “normal” dude in music.
The only time I have heard him be serious (for a moment) was when he was talking about Paul Gilbert (GIT, house sitting and playing bass in his band)
I can't believe this is actually a real thing. What band is gonna ask if you have a degree or not?
We need a weekly Nick and Satchel show! Ok, at least once a month.
Satchel is so awesome. Talented, funny, and annoyingly never seems to age!!!
That Rush comparison at the beginning actually blew my mind, I have listened to Xanadu many a time and never thought it had a sweet child o mine vibe until he pointed it out.
I love that Satchel recognized ratt. Warren DeMartini is a criminally underrated guitarist and writer
He's not underrated at all, highly regarded as one of the best players of the eighties.
The man is a guitar god.
Absolutely
Satchel is a guitar god! I’ve seen Steel Panther live twice and they have been brilliant. And of course he looks great even though he’s pushing 80.
What a cool video! Satchel busts out some seriously obscure riffs (E-Z-O??? I thought I was the only guy who bought that.) Thank you for saving me some hassle. The band is called EZO. I was searching for easy o😂
The members of E-Z-O were in a other band before called Flatbacker! Some real speed metal riffage there
You and I may have been the same person in the1980's. I miss those days.
@@robertolsen9721 -- Check out their album "Fire Fire"
Satchel is underrated...that man can play, thanks SW. These two need a youtube series
Thank you Sweetwater for bringing back my childhood memory! I grew up listening to Steel Panther in the 80s.
80's metal rules!!!
Love the 4:3, VHS quality
This is fantastic! I could watch this show every week. Please do more of these!!! Just playing favorite riffs and reminiscing
This is something really great, I need to revisit this with the guitar in my hands. Whenever I have the chance to throw a riff at someone it's a pleasure.
RaTT with Warren & Robbin “King” Crosby (R.I.P.) were a dynamic duo of axes!#🎸🔥🤟🏻🐀
While watching this I was thinking of Mean Streak by Y&T and then Satchel hits it... YES! What a guy!
Thanks to you both for this - Well done 🤘🏼
I have this video on Betamax and Laserdisc back then. Brings back great memories. 👍👌
So much fun the hour went by so fast. Thanks guys!
Satchel showing those vocal chops too, what a supremely impressive 80 something year old stud! 🎸 🤣 I hope there's more of these, if I see Nick, Satchel or Uncle Ben Eller I click immediately every time. Awesome.
Great interaction, great playing. You should make this an annual event. I think there's at least four riffs to play for both of you guys.
Yeah need more of this. I didn't think I'd watch the whole video but I watched it twice.
All these riffs are killer. Great players with encyclopedic knowledge of metal. I could watch this go all day.
Was not expecting Satchel to drop an E-ZO riff. Badass!
Children of the Sea is a forever Top-10 song for me. Great video 🤘
100%
Love the filter and retro look of this video. Awesome video!!
What elevated this video to the next level was including Budgie - so underrated
It's always amazing that some of the heaviest and most metallic riffs are sometimes relatively simple.
Finally, i've always thought those two parts were similar. They are both good warmup exercises. Xanadu is one of the best songs ever!
Nick is a Metal God🤘
😎🤘
Nick is always class and Satchel is such a hilarious nut. The chemistry these two have bouncing back the quips and jokes is just great I could watch this all day. 🤣

Satchel is not Russ Parrish though
@@DesertDweller1But isn’t it funny that you never see Russ and Satchel in the same room at the same time? Very strange.
@@ronaldwilson9525 Same with Simply Red and Rick Astley!
So was Satchel in Fight or not? War Of Words was a superb effort.
@@Roger8176 yes
So entertaining, thanks fellas!
Great interview, and amazing riffs!
Excellent. Totally enjoyed this! Thank you. Made my night:)

Love Steel Panther - but as soon as I heard some Lifeson it made my heart sing.
I’m lucky to see here locally the best Dio band and singer you will ever see - in the Austin TX area. Mob Rules. The singer is incredible.
Stachel is so awesome! LOVE this vid!
Love the 1st episode and this episode rocks too!! Love Nick and Satchel! They play well together!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Rock on!!!

Mattias Jabs is an amazing player.
Matthias doesn't get near enough credit for his playing. He is great! A master of fills.
EZO House of 1000 Pleasures was my ringtone for a long time, Z-Rock radio use to use that riff also.
Thx Sweetwater for these videos, those two are a cool 80’s team
I'M NOT REALLY A "METAL" FAN, BUT, THIS WAS INTERESTING, AND WORTH WATCHING!.. THANKS!!!
Always happy for more Satchel content and George Lynch shoutouts.
Great video and selection of riffs. Also excellent plug for Dave Meniketti and Y&T! One of the best bands to survive.
Satchel is one of the coolest dudes out there...I love any interview with this guy !! Lol
Best video I've seen in a while. :) I've been to Sweetwater and Steel Panther shows and loved both. Excellent trip down metal lane. \m/,
I'd like to hear more about the Sweetwater show.
So many great riffs being brought to light, awesome video!

Dokken was amazing. Beast From The East: about half of the album GL plays solo over the drums and bass and sounds killer.
Those two guys are great, could listen to them for hours! Great players too!
THIS IS AWESOME....😄😄😄 Next we need Satchel on COFFEE WITH OLA !!!! THAT would be PRICELESS..
EZO by Satchel! Loved him already but now its 3000!
Brilliant interview 🤘👍
2/3rds of the fun watching this video was listening to those two go back and forth, cracking jokes and remarks at each other.
Satchel's whole self-deprecating god complex never fails to amuse me 😂
Appreciate BOTH Of you Guys, For ALL Of it, The RIFFS And The HUMOROUS Dialogue....! You two have great chemistry... 👍😂♥️
Satchel needs to start a guitar comedy tour....epic!
love the 80s video mode of this content

Greatest musicians ever where playing metal. Glam, heavy, thrash whatever. Just great!
Lotsa fun 🎉
Enjoyed this! So many killer 80s riffs. Surprised we didn't get some Saxon and Loudness.

Grim Reaper is sick as hell, tell Nick Bowcott I love him.
Love the love for Glamtera. Much respect
British design and killer tone, great stuff. Thanks, rock on baby.
This was a great hang!!!
Thanks SW for making another video with Satchel and Nick - I hope next one is the riffs from the 90s
Love raven.. grew up listening to them..love the drummer with catchers mask
