@@UltraChaseds1 is always the best because you will see the combat become better and better, instead of Goin from 3 to 1 and see it become clunkier, not because ds1 was done poorly, but because from 2011 to 2016, Fromsoftwers developers bacame way better at their job and the ps4 gave them more freedom compared to the ps3 As someone who started from ds3 I suggest you to start from ds1, seriously, don't do my same error, it's painful to go from a fluid gameplay to an arcaidish version of itself, and also loosing mechanics that made the combat even funnier, like weapon arts, which go from stronger swings of a sword to literal rivers of fire, cones of ice and blades of light And then there's elden ring which improves it even more letting you switch the weapon art (as long as the weapon is not unique), so you can have a dagger that can combust with a cursed flame that will make your enemies bleed And most importantly you can change the elemental dmg of weapon arts, you can literally have a wooden mace that summons an ice storm around you, but the ice deals lightning dmg, or a flaming sword that inflicts frostbites. Which can be funny in PvP, and let's you keep your build without suffering eternal torture because you as a mage are fighting against an enemy with really high magic resistance, just switch element (of course you must "unlock" this), you will have a lower dps because of a problem related with the scaling, but the vulnerability of the boss will make up for it

Maybe in bosses but atmosphere and level design get worse game after game. Elden ring fixes some problems but the repeated dungeons and minibosses take away from the experience
@@villek3722 i agree, gameplay gets polished but the games lose their charm and soul. Dark souls 1 still has the best world design and art direction, but elden ring honestly did do a pretty good job of bringing it back
@@villek3722 Bloodborne and Elden Ring both have better atmosphere than DS1 tho. And although the world design in those games isn’t as interconnected as DS1 the individual levels are definitely on par with anything from DS1 (especially Stormveil, Raya Lucaria, Central Yharnam, and Castle Cainhurst)
@@jameslough6329 Bloodbornes atmosphere is not that succesful imo. Its made to feel almost like horror game but the combat is too smooth and easy for that to be succesful. Then add the fact that most levels look very similar and rely on darkness a lot.
DS1. Seeing Anor Londo for the first time after fighting your way through the sewers, undead burg, and Sen’s Fortress will always give me a tremendous feeling of accomplishment.
@@ginrodino8542 You know, I do think that there could be some level of magic for it, playing DS3 and experiencing all of these fantastical landscapes, then going back to DS1 and realizing the implications of Aldritch and Anor Londo and everything else still existing to the point of DS3's time.
@user-ks8dk2gp9lno, it’s tuff because people want to play it like dark souls. It’s truly very engaging in its combat like a dance. The story is great and the extra lives are super handy. Can’t recommend it enough
Best for me but what was holding me back from trying it is people saying that it's Asian hard and you gotta be Japanese to understand the story but after i played it for me it's way easier then elden ring in both gameplay and understanding the story and skills
@@refl3xun_named684my dude, im gonna be honest with you. Most of the souls players are following barely 10% of what is happening even after every dialogue, location and cutscene. Whatever conclusion after you have after finishing the game it wont be even near the bigger picture due to how much from software uses environment storytelling, visual cues and items descriptions to explain anything that can be understood as a coherent narrative. Most just play the game following the general narrative and learning specific aspects they like and then listen to whatever youtube has the story explanation of the thing you want to know. Im not saying that you can’t understand by yourself but the lore of the game is tied by a community effort cause so much is find on barely perceptible details, references that have impact on the whole story being casually mentioned by a random enemy when its conditions are triggered. Dont beat your head too much trying to fully understand stories because it was meant to be uncovered by putting pieces together with many different people researching, comparing notes, data mining, and collaborating to deliver a conclusion that has solid evidences
@@drakemallard1486 did you start with 3? I'm glad I played 1 before 3 and I wish I would've played demon souls first TBH but it's a free country I just don't know why he didn't even mention 1
I kinda feel like whichever one you start with is going to feel like a good starting point in retrospect, but if you play 3 first you won't fully appreciate 1
Dark Souls 1 has almost objectively the best game design of the series. Teleporting around everywhere from the moment you start/rolling around like Sonic The Hedgehog kills so much momentum. Bloodborne is a distinct second to me. Everything else just melds to me.
Ye but DS 1 is too janky if you're not already experienced either with King's Field or newer titles. I just finished it, and it caused me too much stress to backtrack very long distances
Honestly I think DS2 is the best one to start with, and that’s with DS1 being my favorite. Most people would disagree with me. Its non linearity while also having bonfire travel from the beginning makes it fairly similar to Elden Ring in terms of overall experience. If the area is too hard, go somewhere else. The difficulty is fairly light compared to the newer games, so the player is less likely to just quit on a boss, can’t say the same about some of those locations though lol. Lastly, it’s just janky enough to not feel outdated while also making you more open to playing the older games. A problem I saw with DS3 and Elden Ring is that a lot of people will play those as their first souls game, and then be unable to play the older souls games because they think it’s too janky.
@@kudjaremastered3362 agreed. The opposite is true too. Played it after 3 and Bloodborne, I absolutely rolled on every single encounter. I loved it but it was not the most authentic experience.

@@iota-09 sure it’s in the item descriptions but as a first game a lot of people don’t check all the items and end up very confused til their 2nd or third play through. That’s the typical souls lore dive experience so I think as the first game ds3 wouldn’t be the best fit. Sekiro seems more of a fit cause they’re gonna struggle either way.
Same it is the only one I have beaten because i find the doge and roll mechanics of the souls games to be way too difficult where Sekiro is much easier to master imo at least for me
Probably the best combat of these games, for me. And this is coming from someone that's been with the series since Demon's Souls was all there was. DS1 and 3 still hold a special place in my heart, though, of course. And Bloodborne is excellent.
I don’t understand why some of those in the comment section believe a slower paced game is “janky”. Slowing everything down to the point every roll and every weapon swing matters is deeply rewarding.
@@Dawgslaboth game mechanically janky but ds2 get hated for it more. Thats the only thing i dislike about the "people's critic", otherwise i think half if not most of the ds2 critic is correct
@@Dawgsla I actually disagree very strongly. In my personal experience of over 2000 hours in the game, the times where I thought an attack was poorly choreographed was very much in the minority(excluding outliers such as the hydra fights). In comparison, there are fights in DS3, such as Pontiff Sulyvahn, where there are attack animations that require you to have a reaction time faster than is biologically possible for our brains to process. Amir did a great video on it you should check it out.
I dunno later souls games get enemies and bosses that are just on cocaine and never stop swinging. It was fine in Sekiro cause you were expected to deal with it and given the tools to do so. Elden ring feels a lot less methodical than DS1. Different strokes and that.@@Dawgsla
Yeah the slower paced itself isn't janky. The 4-way rolling feels a little clunky in DS1, but that just takes some time. World at War is my favorite CoD, and it's mostly because of the clunky deliberate feel.
Imo DS and DS2 just feel clunky how you cannot really cancel your actions and enemies not really have hit stun kind of throws you off. In Bloodborne then DS3 the hits and reactions are much more fluid which to me makes a better experience

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Start with Dark Souls 1 and play them by order. Also, the Dark Souls games are definitely connected by story and you'll appreciate Dark Souls 3 way more if you played the previous two Dark Souls.
The story on each game makes a lot of sense by themselves. Yes, DS1 and 3 have more or less the same plot, but they're not the same story. Also DS2 should be skipped on the order. The story has nothing related to the main line and the gameplay is horrible in general. While I still think that it was a good game, it might make new players want to stop playing souls games just because it is quite unfair as a game (especially the sotfs version). I would say play either DS1/DS3 as your first, then the other one you didn't play and then move on to Elden Ring and Bloodborne. Finally, if you ended up enjoying all of them, you can move on to Sekiro and DS2

If i would make a tierlist for the top 3 bosses in souls. There would be slave knight gael, friede and gwynn from ds1. No boss in ds2 is up there. Maybe it's just me, but some moments in DS3 lose some impact without having at least some knowledge of DS1 and 2. Walking into Firelink Shrine and seeing how different it became, but then seeing a familiar friend in Andre. Meeting Siegward, this game's onion knight fills you with the nostalgia of Siegmeyer. Finding Sun Bros covenant and armor. Finding Lucatiel's mask (I will always remember your name, dear friend.) @sinefine7726that's the point of exploration? Would you say someone shouldn't play Elden Ring because they might get lost? Elden Ring is definitely more overwhelming than DS1 at the beginning
@sinefine7726 if you're dumb enough to go that far down an area with enemies that much stronger than you and light a bonfire then that's more of an issue with you than the average new player. I know when I first played I didn't make that mistake, nor anyone I know and I've never heard it happening to anyone. Sounds like a massive stretch when Elden Ring has led far more people to become lost at the beginning before finding Melina and Torrent
@sinefine7726 that would imply Elden Ring is bad because there's that chest near the start that teleports you to Caelid. Caelid can already be hard for beginners, but that's not even mentioning Dragons Barrow right next to it. The catacombs in DS1 is a cakewalk compared to the dragons at Dragons Barrow.
DS1 is still my favorite, the feeling you get when Returning to firelink from Blighttown has never replicated by any of the later games. All the other souls games lack the open endedness that DS1 has (except Elden Ring ofc). One thing I loved about DS1 and Elden was talking about the game to other people and finding out they had a completely different experience to you because they went different places first or tried different things. All the Other games are Linear af. DS1 has the best map design ever created in a video game imo. It's literally the template that many colleges use to teach good game design.
@@draw2death421 the rushed endgame is basically just 2 bad areas. Tomb of giants is annoying but nothing unplayable(with shield atleast). Well, adults that grew up playing Nintendo have such fond memories that their minds are structured to get joy out of them. For example I grew up playing ps3, and I love playing linear games, whereas some people would call being guided where to go as boring. Now of course, I don't only play linear games, I just get more joy out of ps3 styled games than other people who would hate it because they didn't grow up playing them as a kid too. Now back to dark souls 1, most likely but not always, if you played that game as a kid or teen, you will probably say it's better than DS3. But that can't be further than the truth. DS3 which is objectivity a better game in every single way because it's more modern and from software built their knowledge up, in a way it fixed almost but not every problem Dark Souls 1 had. People only swear that it's better because it's what they have fond memories of. To them calling DS3 better than DS1 is like telling them their childhood joy was invalid.
Something people often overlook is the beauty of an interconnected world that came with dark souls 1, so I have to recommend dark souls 1 for your first experience for that exact reason, and Solaire. Praise the sun.
I would disagree, if you start with Dark Souls 3, you miss out on a lot of cool callbacks to Dark Souls. Realistically, you should play them in order. 1, 2, 3, then any of the rest 3 has a lot of references to 1 and 2 in it And to all of you who will either think or comment "DS2 sucks, skip it!": Dark Souls 2 is a perfectly fine game, and plenty enjoyable when you dont have a bitch in your ear telling you it sucks
I beat every souls game (except Demon's Souls) but i still can't beat DS2 after four times restarting it. Rat-dog boss always make me rage quit and i do not like levels.
I tried playing dark souls 2 after one, it was terrible and didn’t feel like ds1 at all. I tried ds3 and it clicks instantly for me. So i think ds2 deserves the reputation it has
Ds2s cool but I wouldn’t recommend it after Ds1 Id instead play Ds3 because it’s way more connected to 1 than 2 and play 2 after because its gameplay is honestly quite a bit different to the other 2 souls games.
Dark Souls 1 and 3 are connected. The Soul of Cinder having the powers of all the players that defeated Gwyn and then fighting like Gwyn in the second phase. Then you got going back to Anor Londo to fight Aldrich who uses a spear like weapon that resembles Nito’s weapon from DS1

And i was able to correct my mistake from the first game and become the Lord of Hollows. Incredible game and experience.
Bloodborne was the first souls game i played and with it's gothic estatic and lovecraftian stortytelling it was love at first sight. Yeah it's the best and the coolest a true masterpiece.
My first souls was Bloodborne and in a few words I only can say it was a “changing turning point in my life”. I had never feel something like that in a game and the funny thing is I was about to quit bc I couldn’t pass the beginning of central Yharnam zone. What I knew next was I finished the game 6 times, got the platinum trophy, played it over 300 hours, became a pro player in it and souls and know a wikipedia of Lore about it. So yes, it was a changing life experience, and all I can say is: The first Souls you played, it is the best souls in your heart
Agreed. Dark souls 3 will forever have a very special place in my heart. First soulsborne I ever played and if I had to only play one for the rest of my life it would be dark souls 3
Man DS1 level design will be on the HOF for a very long time. It also hold a special place in my heart. I played it a lot when a teen and the game just felt magical.
Is ashes of ariandel, dark souls 3 season pass, the ringed city and Bloodborne the old hunters considered dlcs and they expand the lore of the soul games or are they just add ons?
Dark Souls 1. Go back and see where it all began. Hear that piano. Feel that pain. I would argue the amazing ending of Dark Souls 3 really hits hard when you get the reference first hand. I remember when the piano kicked in, and the Soul of Cinder changes his stance and I realized it was Gwyn, the last soul left, the first soul given. He killed me, and I respawned and in the blackness of the TV screen for just a second I saw my own tears.
I’ll always have a soft spot for Dark Souls 1. I’ve platinnumed all of them, but I don’t remember the last time I was so hooked and immersed in a video game as I was in my 1st playthrough of DS1. Everything was just so incredible and unlike anything I had ever played before. There’s just a certain magic about it that no other souls game has. The one that gets very close for me is Sekiro.
Dark souls trilogy are connected. One evidence is that orstein from ds1 has the same armor as the old dragon slayer from ds2. You can also find some places in ds2 that are now shriveled up and destroyed in ds3. They all took place in the same Universe, not just at the same time
I came here to say this! Ds1 takes place hundreds to thousands of years before ds3, ds2 doesn't have a specific time period but I have a feeling it takes place between ds1 and 3, just in a completely different location(duh, Majula is the game's Firelink).
Gotta start with DS1(first soulsborne, my first soulslike was code vein)got me addicted to the soulslike/soulsborne genre especially after reaching Anor Londo for that first time
Saying none of them are connected is a blatant lie Dark Souls 3 is actively about the original Dark Souls, and breaking the cycle that the first one set up
Exactly, he probably forgot about that. But even then, we can't outright say that they are not connected to each other, because they might(which i believe is more than likely) connected to each game. In the start of the dark Souls, there was nothing but a mist shrouded everywhere, no black and white, no light and dark, no life and death, and only everlasting dragons were present in mysterious grey mist. One of the endings of the Demon Souls(which i believe to be the canon one) ends with Slayer of the demons absorbing ancient one's power and leaving the world in a grey mist. Or how Dark Souls 3 indicates how Yharnam is created by the Blood of the Dark Soul in the DLC (I mean, at least i think that's what it's about.). And this is the neat part about Soulsborne games, you can implement, describe, comment, and theorize about it's story in most ways, and you wouldn't be entirely wrong about it(unless for some certain things like how people thought Solarie could be the Nameless son of the Gwyn in the first Dark Souls game, only to find out that Nameless King is a entirely another person by the time Dark Souls 3 came out.).
@@felipeemanuel5790 you fight against to Soul of Cinder in Dark Souls 3, an amalgamation of the all souls who have linked the First irst Flame, in first phase, you're basically fighting against the main character in the first game(because either your character, or someone else's character linked the First Flame), and then against Gwyn, the first Lord of the Cinder who linked the First Flame with his soul, and cursed everyone with the curse of the undead. Dark Souls 3 is about putting an end to the never ending cycle of the First Flame from the first game(and yes, there're four different endings, but the one where you watch the First Flame to extinguish slowly in the hands of the fire keeper has to be the canon one, because for a game that is meant to end Dark Souls series, it's the most fitting one for to make a grand finale.).
I dunno about the easy part. It was definitely second hardest soulslike game I have played, right behind Elden ring. The easiest ones for me were dark souls 3 and Sekiro. Ds3 boss design is kind of like a precursor to elden ring's bosses, so if you're good at ER bosses, ds3 wouldn't give you much trouble. Also, maybe it's just me, but I felt a lot tankier in ds3 than other souls games. Sekiro was easier for me because it's much shorter than the other souls games, and the levels aren't very difficult. The main challenge in that game comes from the bosses, but since I played Lies of P first, I was used to it's much tighter parry window, and sekiro just felt much easier when it came to learning the timings. Also, Mortal draw and spamming the parry button works unreasonably well on your first playthrough

No kidding…
Aight so dark sould 1 or 3 first?
@@UltraChaseds1 - the best and hardest locations.
ds3 - the best bosses and gameplay.
I more like ds1. That’s only your choice
@@UltraChaseI would recommend dark souls 3 because I feel it is more “beginner friendly” than when compared to ds1. But you should absolutely play ds1
@@UltraChaseds1 is always the best because you will see the combat become better and better, instead of Goin from 3 to 1 and see it become clunkier, not because ds1 was done poorly, but because from 2011 to 2016, Fromsoftwers developers bacame way better at their job and the ps4 gave them more freedom compared to the ps3
As someone who started from ds3 I suggest you to start from ds1, seriously, don't do my same error, it's painful to go from a fluid gameplay to an arcaidish version of itself, and also loosing mechanics that made the combat even funnier, like weapon arts, which go from stronger swings of a sword to literal rivers of fire, cones of ice and blades of light
And then there's elden ring which improves it even more letting you switch the weapon art (as long as the weapon is not unique), so you can have a dagger that can combust with a cursed flame that will make your enemies bleed
And most importantly you can change the elemental dmg of weapon arts, you can literally have a wooden mace that summons an ice storm around you, but the ice deals lightning dmg, or a flaming sword that inflicts frostbites. Which can be funny in PvP, and let's you keep your build without suffering eternal torture because you as a mage are fighting against an enemy with really high magic resistance, just switch element (of course you must "unlock" this), you will have a lower dps because of a problem related with the scaling, but the vulnerability of the boss will make up for it
Jacob's advice is proof that not all heroes wear capes.

Amir did a great video on it you should check it out.
I dunno later souls games get enemies and bosses that are just on cocaine and never stop swinging. It was fine in Sekiro cause you were expected to deal with it and given the tools to do so.

Yeah the slower paced itself isn't janky.
The 4-way rolling feels a little clunky in DS1, but that just takes some time.
World at War is my favorite CoD, and it's mostly because of the clunky deliberate feel.

The story on each game makes a lot of sense by themselves. Yes, DS1 and 3 have more or less the same plot, but they're not the same story. Also DS2 should be skipped on the order. The story has nothing related to the main line and the gameplay is horrible in general. @@SmellenBellen Besides Mario Odyssey, Zelda BOTW, and animal crossing. Nintendo games have nothing on modern games, some are even objectivity bad, so why do people still play them?
Dark Souls 1 was the only correct answer here
I started with Dark Souls 1 about a year ago and I am so grateful I did
Dark souls 2 will always be the best in my heart. Need to hear that majula music again.
I personally didn't liked it, but if it's your fave, that's great, dark souls 3 is mine

I would disagree, if you start with Dark Souls 3, you miss out on a lot of cool callbacks to Dark Souls. Realistically, you should play them in order.
1, 2, 3, then any of the rest
3 has a lot of references to 1 and 2 in it
And to all of you who will either think or comment "DS2 sucks, skip it!": Dark Souls 2 is a perfectly fine game, and plenty enjoyable when you dont have a bitch in your ear telling you it sucks
Exclude 2 because that's just the toast chromosome alpha of elden ring
Yall really leaving out demons souls :(
I beat every souls game (except Demon's Souls) but i still can't beat DS2 after four times restarting it.
DS2 took my heart from the start and nobody can change that
199% on this, regret that I skipped it between DS1,3 and bloodbourne

That's the best one. It's the reason I could even play any of the other ones. It trained me. Lol
I played the games in reverse order, and DS2 is far better than DS1 IMO.
Bro, my frustrations with Dark Soul's Tutorial is for real
Dark Souls 1 and 3 are connected. The Soul of Cinder having the powers of all the players that defeated Gwyn and then fighting like Gwyn in the second phase. Then you got going back to Anor Londo to fight Aldrich who uses a spear like weapon that resembles Nito’s weapon from DS1
For me, it's Sekiro. You can literally obliterate the bosses with the most anime ass techniques ever😂

Dark souls 1 will always be my favorite. I spent so many hours spent in fight clubs and helping people clear bosses.
Demons souls getten forgotten. A great game and my first souls game
Love Demons Souls. I also recommend it as its probably the easiest.
I loved Demon’s Souls on the PS3

Ive just played through the Dark Souls series for the first time and definitely recommend starting in 1. To me, they progress in difficulty and the story is just fantastic.
I love seeing the boss designs evolve or return with new abilities. I love the returning characters like Patches or Seigward...
I plan to do just that aswell

My first souls was Bloodborne and in a few words I only can say it was a “changing turning point in my life”. I had never feel something like that in a game and the funny thing is I was about to quit bc I couldn’t pass the beginning of central Yharnam zone. What I knew next was I finished the game 6 times, got the platinum trophy, played it over 300 hours, became a pro player in it and souls and know a wikipedia of Lore about it. So yes, it was a changing life experience, and all I can say is: The first Souls you played, it is the best souls in your heart
Yet, here I am, beginning my soulsborne journey with Dark Souls Remastered.
Turns out John Darksoul was dead the whole time.

Nothing will ever replace the magic of my first dark souls 1 playthrough.
I thought for a second that at the end he was going to say: Skyrim
Soulsborne games taught me the question "which one is your favorite?" sometimes really makes no sense
Fighting through Blighttown, to quennala, to sens forstress, to anot londo and finally beating O&S is a spiritual journey, and best boy solaire
Plin plin plon
@@fenriswolfoWe know DS2 takes place before DS3 because there are several call backs to it in DS3.

Saying none of them are connected is a blatant lie
Dark Souls 3 is actively about the original Dark Souls, and breaking the cycle that the first one set up
Exactly, he probably forgot about that. And this is the neat part about Soulsborne games, you can implement, describe, comment, and theorize about it's story in most ways, and you wouldn't be entirely wrong about it(unless for some certain things like how people thought Solarie could be the Nameless son of the Gwyn in the first Dark Souls game, only to find out that Nameless King is a entirely another person by the time Dark Souls 3 came out.).
it's connected, but not a sequence, it's not a direct continuation, you see a lot of references, but that's it.
Lies of P is a soulslike game that's pretty easy and has some fire graphics
Bro giving a newbie dslll is like giving someone two sticks and saying “now make fire”, its possible but youre not even sure where to start or how to progress
Where to start or how to progress what? The game?

I wanna play souls games but I don’t wanna die more than 200 times. I don’t think there’s an option for me 😅
souls-like games are waving at you
Bloodborne is easy if you understand basics, and if its too hard you can grind a bit
Start with Sekrio. You'll die the least.
Dark souls 1 is the one for you... It's the most relaxed of them all... Probably didn't even die a 100 times in the whole game 👍👍
Lies of P is my favorite movie
what
Dark Souls 2 with enemies despawning after enough kills id say its the best for a casual to get started
What about the other copious amounts of bullshit
The enemies don't start despawning until 10 deaths... If a new player is killing enemies that many times I doubt they are sticking with the game for very long. Elden Ring is by far the most noob friendly.
I think dark souls 1 is bit more handholding than other souls games because of the slower combat, but idk if its like that for the remake since i only have the older one
Dark Souls 2 was my first souls game to this day I still know it like the back of my own hand
Completely agree, I started on ds3 and I wouldn't have it another way.
I'd argue Sekiro is a Soulslike game 👀
It isn't, but that's not bad, it can pretty much create its own genre, but it's very tied to the fact that it's Miyazaki's and seen as a Souls game by consequence
first game I played was sekiro it changed my playing style in every game. When I revisited sekiro after a year it made me realise if grinding hard on game is this much fun why not grind in real life too it changed my personality
Bloodborne's parry mechanism is shooting the giant monster in the face... It wins.
My first souls-like was code vein and so far i'm definetly enjoying it!
A friend of mine really wanted to start playing souls, and as he wanted to play all of them, I told him to play ds2 first, then 1, 3 and elden ring. Starting with the one with the most issues seems to be a nice way
What about Demons Souls?
In that first clip you were fighting the boss with the best theme in souls history 😮💨
It's also very important to note that Bloodborne is a horror game with action elements while the the rest of the series is pure action adventure, so that's important to keep in mind. DS3 is my favourite as well though, so you have great taste though
