I've just fitted stair rods on my stairs, following a different video. They are a bit wider than the carpet runner. My stairs didn't creak before I attached them and now they do. Any suggestions as to why, and what I can do about it? Thank you.

What about the carpet? Don’t you usually attach at top and bottom and leave the rest loose?
