  • Today I ride the Suzuki GSX-8R and give you my initial impressions of this midsized sportsbike. It's one of the new crop of parallel twin so called "soft" sportsbikes that are all the rage right now and which include the Aprilia RS660, Triumph Daytona 660, and the Yamaha R7. Is the Suzuki GSX-8R right for you? Grab a brew, and watch along as I sample the latest sportbike from Suzuki.

The torque makes this a gem of a daily rider. Good looks, comfy and just enough tech. Silver one with the red wheels I just love.

Yes, the silver one reminds me of the katana. Cheers.

Wow... great comprehensive review! From what you said here, this bike is really aimed at a sizeable market share. I reckon it would suit me nicely. Hands could get uncomfortably chilly without those heated grips though!! lol "Mummy, my hands are cold."

TST industries has developed aftermarket tune, exhaust and airbox mods that transform that little engine. In the standard factory tune your looking at about 74 HP at the wheel. TST's tune yields over 90 and gives it a real healthy top end. Check out their videos. This bike has lots of room to improve.

Fabulous info. The bikes engine is a gem, and very understressed, so I'm not surprised thst TST has found more power. Cheers and thanks for the update.

Akrapovic has a pipe available. Come on Suzuki, give us the yellow bike in Europe, FFS!

Good to know, thanks. Pretty sure the yellow version is coming in the fall of 2024 - the 2025 model year in Europe.

I did not realize there was a local Suzuki demo ride day. 🙁

Well said, great first impressions review! Concur with your entire assessment... after test riding twice myself (demo and dealer opportunity to test again). My 2nd test ride I felt some slight vibrations in the handlebars; assume you didn't feel same. I've been impressed with the GSX 8R, and considering a purchase. Honestly, I was fine with my 2018 Vstrom 650 and 2023 Ninja 650 until the 8R came to market. One has to go. Thanks for your insight!

Thanks for the feedback. I never felt any tingles in the handlebars at all, just a gentle pulse through the entire bike, although it was very very minor and in my experience can be put down to character: it has two counterbalancers, so I think Suzuki left that in there just to give the bike some soul. It certainly didn't intrude in any way in my riding and I felt it was a positive. But then again I ride a moto guzzi griso and a Suzuki V-Strom 1000 both of which have the same sort of characteristic and I enjoy that. I've had a Suzuki V-Strom, and ridden the Ninja 650. For me the 8R is a natural replacement for the Ninja, but you have to do your thing :-)

@@BlueMarbleRider You are right about character. That may very well be the reason I've had a hard time letting go of both the Ninja and the Vstrom. It's a great time to be a motorcyclist, but too much character is out-pacing my wallet and inventory capacity. Thanks for the feedback and keep the reviews/perspectives coming!
