For me, in 2018 Antoine Griezmann definitely deserved to win the ballon d'or: he won the Europa league, the world cup and the European super cup against real Madrid and had one of his best years with 37 goals and 18 assists... and if not Griezmann then Rafael Varane (won the Champions League, the world cup and the club world cup) but not Modric even tho he was really good

I feel like Xavi and Iniesta deserve just one in their lifetime. Also, Neuer achieved pretty much what a player could think of: a treble and a World Cup - for me, he's not Yashin or maybe even Casillas/Buffon were better shot stoppers, but he invited something that modern goalkeepers are just treating as a new standard. The rest? Ribery and Sneijder would be fair once as well, but apart from that Messi and Ronaldo deserve to hold that record and I wish they were tied with those awards. I'm not going to remember CR7 or Messi, but rather the fact their rivalry was so intense that they were both the best at the opposite sides. Each gave football something unforgetable and special and one would not be so great without the other one.
In justice, Messi should have won 8 and Cristiano 3. That is a more accurate representation of the difference between the two.

@Wasit Arfan Messi should've won this for *nearly* every year of his career. Maybe 1 or 2 years where Ronaldo could maybe be put in the same sentence, but Messi is the best player to have ever lived as long as he keeps playing football as good as he is, he should be winning the Ballon d'or.

I think if they’re gonna keep giving the awards to specific players they should at least deep dive into some metrics. Like figuring out who’s more efficient and effective. There could’ve been some seasons where CR or LM finished 2nd to 1 another for having less goals but they could’ve taken far less shots or hit more difficult ones....or perhaps 1 year they won it when someone else was a more effective/ valuable player to their club. Just something to consider.
Metrics would be good if they would include weightings based on difficulty of matches. Example: Away games carry harder weight than home games

I just know that if Liverpool would have won either the Premier League or the Champions League in 2008 then Fernando Torres would have won the Ballon D’Or since he had an amazing 30+ goals season and he won the Euro 2008 with Spain scoring an amazing goal for the win in the final versus Germany. The fact is that Fernando Torres had a 2008 season that was just as good as the ones Ronaldo and Messi had, the only difference between them was that Liverpool didn’t win any titles that year and Manchester United and Barcelona did win titles and sadly that is what cost Torres not getting the 2008 Ballon D’Or.
