7 Greatest Football Seasons of All Time

- From Ajax in the 1994-95 season, who went invincible in the Eredivisie and won the UEFA Champions League, to Santos in 1962, who won every competition they entered, scoring almost four goals a game on average, in light of Bayer Leverkusen's remarkable season, HITC Sevens takes a look at some of the greatest seasons in the entire history of football.

Freddy Adu needs to be paid royalties from this channel.
Indeed he Adu...
Lol
On the other hand it's a way for him not to be forgotten. 😄
Adu agree with that.
This is starting to get serious considering the usage of his image on the thumbnail.😅
Atalanta are beating Leverkusen 3-0 now Alfie actually jinxed them 😂
Lottery numbers mate??
He edited the thumbnail
What was the original?@vegito2000
They got the double at least 😂
@@omarpereyra6255 it had 0 defeats
You jinxed it. You couldn't let the season play out for 5 more days.
Make that 42 wins, 9 draws, and 1 defeat for Bayer 04 Leverkusen. You can take the Europa League trophy off the thumbnail now.
Neverkusen are back to themselves and bvb will soon follow . Mia San Mia
Alfie actually went and changed the thumbnail to show both of these. Damn.
@@eoin8156one loss doesn’t mean there back to themselves
@@eoin8156 Leverkusen will never be Neverkusen or Vizekusen ever again. This season cemented their place in football history and no matter what all the haters say, their unbeaten Bundesliga title arguably makes them the best Bundesliga Team of all time.
Man... 2012/13 season for Bayern was possibly even better than 2019/20 season, that's at least an honorable mention. 25 points ahead of second team in the Bundesliga, a treble, beating the shit out of THIS Barcelona team 7-0 over 2 legs in the semifinals...
And that 91 points they had that season was the Bundesliga record
Johan Cruijff being directly responsible for more than half of these teams truely proves that he is one of the best players of all time
If Leverkusen manages to win the Europa League and the cup final this week, my opinion is that this season belongs on such a short list, on account of them being invincible across all three competitions they played. That's still two games away, but it's an unprecedented level of greatness. Even if it's the Europa League rather than the Champions League, this is also Leverkusen, rather than a super-club like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
Also, people should not ignore the fact Leverkusen is almost relegated before Xabi came in, so people shouldn't expect "will Leverkusen do the same in UCL this season"
It deserves more credit since it isn’t a team made of super stars.
@@muhdahnaf7927 Tbf, they werent "almost relegated", they just had a horrific start to the season and their squad was still probably Top 5-8 in the league at the time. Regardless, going from the 5th best team in the league to winning an unbeaten treble would be an unprecedented season + Xabi had to bring them from 17th into the European places in the first place last season.
Its hard finishing a league with no defeat. So hard its only been done by Juve in 2012 and Arsenal in 2004 in the Big 5 leagues. And those are much bigger clubs than Bayer. While i think Barcas season where they won 6 trophies is the greatest ever this will be a close second
The problem is the amount of weight the champions league carries
How the fck the 2013 Bayern didn't even earned a mention with a 7:0 win over Barca and winning the Treble, even though the 2019 Bayern was mentioned?
There is no objective list of the best seasons where the 2013 Bayern wouldn't be included.
Even though I passionatly hate Bayern, I have to agree.
There is even some pure comedy gold in that story: Bayern only lost one game during the 2012/13 Bundesliga season, setting the still standing points record (91 out of 104). Who do you think was the only team in Germany beating them that year, preventing them from becoming the first undefeated champion?
Exactly, Bayer 04 Leverkusen!!!
Yeah, that's what I thought too. It was the first season that came to my mind when I saw the title, crazy that it's not featured. Also the story of that season is even more wild when you consider they were on a revenge mission after completing a 'treble' of second places the year before.
2013 Bayern have the most points per game of any treble winning team.
@@Tiger516funny I don't think the Invincibles would have a spot here, anyway. While an unbeaten run in the Premier League is monumental, they didn't win anything outside of the league, and that would hold a lot of weight for a list like this.
@@Tiger516funny ah yes the invincible league team that got their ass handed to them in every other competition that year, when an invincible season has happened three times since then and once beforehand. It's not even at the top of invincible league seasons anymore.
Mentioning Bayern 2019/20 but not 2012/13 is a crime.
19/20 team was better
@@sambradbury455312/13 beat Prime Barca 7-0 in UCL on aggregate.

12/13 beat Prime Barcelona 7-0 agg. in UCL
He jinxed it
I think Bayern's treble in 2012/13 should have been included in your top list, not only winning everything but doing so a year after a disastrous campaign where Bayern lost everything in the finals of each competition and yet with the same group of players it won everything next year.
not to mention the way they demolished teams like juventus and barcelona
In all seriousness, I genuinely don’t think a single team, club or international, has ever matched the season that Leverkusen has had this year.
I would like to slightly retract this statement, but my point still stands Leverkusen is amazing
Only one that does is Arsenal's Women's team that won an unbeaten quadruple in the 2000s.
And that was 17 years ago.
@@GCAbleism158relatively speaking that’s impressive but overall that still doesn’t come close to Leverkusen
Especially if you consider their previous seasons. Most of these teams were dominant or at least title contenders in the seasons before as well. Leverkusen definitely wasn't.
wait until after the europa league and dfb pokal. If they lose both then there has been teams you could say were more dominant or matched
One little thing that sometimes is overlooked at times is the competition. Two of Leverkusen's domestic rivals made it to the Champions League semi-finals.
It certainly wasn't a stroll through a farmer's league.
Beating an Italian (and ideally Milanese) team in a final seems to be an important component of great seasons!
Celtics Lisbon lions beating inte in 67
You should've waited just a few more hours man
Updating the thumbnail is funny af lol

What the fuck man!? it's like you knew they were going to lose in the final today and made the video before the streak ends...
To be fair, Atalanta beat both Liverpool and Marseille 3-0. In hindsight, the foreshadowing was relatively obvious.
@@luigicampo4008 Respect for Atalanta , Amazing run , but why did they have to ruin the perfect season 2 games before its conclusion smh...
That's just devious😅 should have done it another year...
@@user-fr2jc8xb9g What can I say, I guess after what happened last year (3 Italian teams each got into the Conference, Europa and Champions finals and they all lost) the Spirit of Italian Football or something demanded blood and Leverkusen just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time:)
The thumbnail edit is fantastic 😂
Obviously not a single season so only tangentially related, but Nottingham Forest winning the First Division (then the top division in English football) in their first season after promotion, then winning the European Cup at the first time of asking while also winning 2 League Cups & setting a record of unbeaten league games that lasted for 26 years has to go down as one of the best 2-season runs of all time.
Love how you changed the thumbnail.
I love how he changed the thumbnail to 1 defeat 😭
I can't believe it actually worked LOL you actually jinxed them 💀💀💀
Top 7 ridiculously good squads who disappointed everybody
I think of that 2007-9 Valencia with Juan Mata, David Silva, David Villa, Jordi Alba, albioĺ, Joaquin, morientes, etc, coached by Unai Emery
Who finished 10th and 6th in La Liga, only getting a Copa del Rey to show for it
Or that 2000-2 Brescia who with Baggio, Pirlo, Luca Toni, Pep Guardiola, and many others finished 8th and 13th in Serie A
Maybe that 1998-00 inter who had R9, Baggio, Pirlo, Zanetti, bergomi, simeoni, Pagliuca, and Vieri but ended up with 8th and 4th place without any silverware to show for
Pretty obvious but the Galacticos also comes to mind. Great idea!
In Milan we will always refer to the 92-93 season as the stolen treble, as Marseille was caught match fixing in that Champions League final. We won the League, Super Coppa Italiana and then was cheated out of thr Chanpions League, we only lost 3 games the entire season, after going undefeated in the 1991-1992 Serie A season. Gli Invincibili
At Ajax, we think similarly about the 95-96 season, and more specifically, losing the CL final on penalties against a Juventus squad that was so doped up it was almost literally coming out of their ears.
@@niels9203 yeah even we were complaining in the league about that crap. But that's Juventus, always finding loopholes, typical Agnelli's
@@bzilla1090 I wish it had been a (legal) loophole, then maybe I could rationalise losing to them. This was just straight-up cheating. They made Lance Armstrong look like an amateur, particularly their wingbacks against Finidi and Overmars. We have our domestic rivalries, and I'm really not a fan of any of those oil clubs, but the only club I really hate is Juventus. I always hope they lose every single game.
@@niels9203 same here my friend I rejoice at their troubles
Jinxed 'em right up, Alf
Ajax's only defeat in '71-'72 came on April Fool's Day.
No honourable for the original Invincibles Preston North End, winning the first ever football league title with 18 wins and 4 draws, while also winning the FA cup without conceding a goal.
The only completely Invincible season on top flight English history
You just jinxed them 😂😂😂
I'm just gonna start with WOW!! This is why I love this channel. So much great inciteful knowledge. I knew a bit about a lot of these teams,in terms of what they won. But I didn't know how they won or how great they were. Alfie mate, for me this might be your best yet. Please please keep up the fantastic work. Bless
I saw you change the thumbnail!
Adem Lookman thought, ‘not this season, lads… not this time…’
Leverkusen streak is over tonight. What a painful day for football

Just want to say I love the speedy thumbnail change lol.
they really went right back to Neverkusen 😭😭😭💀
They are never going back to Neverkusen, especially not for losing ONE game all season. Yes it sucks that it's a final, but still, 52/53 games unbeaten, two titles, unbeaten Bundesliga Champion, they will be Neverkusen again
Of course Leverkusen actually lose straight after Alfie makes this video
Who’s here after Bayer Leverkusen lost? 💔
Brazilian here, São Paulo fan. Congratulations for looking outside Europe.

My goat
The thing is, the Premier League was at a lower level than the Bundesliga when it was created. So German players had no reason to go play there, unless for retirement money like Gianfranco Zola and Gianluca Vialli did.
JINXED!!!!
1:33 I think this is a very important point to make before some weirdo starts suggesting that “actually a team from Burkina Faso won a double completely undefeated 🤓” as if that comes anywhere near Leverkusens achievement this season
I’ll have you know I completed an unbeaten quadruple in football manager with Stockport and that’s definitely a bigger accomplishment than a real world unbeaten treble😂
It's all relative, Leverkusen wouldn't and couldn't match their great achievement in the EPL as the competition is much tougher.
@@ahhu.I’m saying this as a British person, but can we be honest with ourselves and stop overrating the EPL? Prem clubs this year have been terrible, the Bundesliga is no longer the “farmers league” you think it is. There are two Bundesliga clubs in European finals this year. There’s a reason why Germany has an extra UCL spot and we do not.
@@ahhu. EPL is turning into a farmers league with Man City dominating the domestic scene. 2 consecutive FA cup finals and 4 consecutive PL titles

I might be biased but for me Preston North End's 1888/89 season will always be the greatest season in the history of football.

Who's watching this just after their first loss of the season against Atalanta?
The most impressive thing about that Ajax team was their captain and centre back was Blind.
The fact that they changed the record on the thumbnail 😂😂
Alfie, regarding that 66/67 Celtic team they actually couldve won one more trophy. The lost the 1967 Intercontinental cup against Argentinian side Racing Club (this cup is the equivalent to the fifa World Cup Championship nowadays)
It was in October, so technically the 1967/68 season.
@@Alfie_1 yeah but that cup was played between the winners of the 66/67 European champions and Southamerican champions
@@Pieroxcing Yeah, just not in the season that's all. Like nowadays, the UCL winner doesn't play in the Club World Cup of the same season, it will be listed in the next season.
anyone after they lost 3-0 to atalanta?
Yep
You jinxed them didn't you...
ALFIE...
Then Bayer go on to bottle the europa league final haha
Hiya Alfie, I'm glad you got the Celtic team (1967) in this vlog, there were a fabulous team, 10 out of the 11 players played for the Scottish National team the only odd one was Jim Baxter and he played for Rangers, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
Call me weird but 3-3-3-1 is my favourite formation and 1995 Ajax had perhaps the best incarnation of that setup in history.
The kiss of death
To me the 14-15 Season will always be the scariest Messi ever was after finishing runner up in the World Cup pretty much made him a monster alongside Neymar and Suarez.
18-19 season was when Barca were controlled by Messi at all. He single handedly led this team to (almost) winning the Treble unmatched, until Anfield tragedy happened.
The South American trident 🔱 feared by all
@@ezraezra2928 that should be appear on top spot of 7 matches that ruined perfect seasons
I don't know why, but the thumbnail seems different.
When Alfie says without further ado there's a grin on my face automatically
20:20 Bayern took home a sextuple in the 19/20 season not just a treble.
The Club World Cup took place in 2021, but still retained its 2020 edition, so it's being counted.
Great list
damn that ajax 95 team was a beast, underrated squad
I think Lyon Women's team might have gone back to back invincible treble winners in the 2010-11 & 2011-12 seasons.
I would say Bayerns 12/13 treble was better than their 19/20 treble, the magic of 19/20 was winning the sextuple (but that was beacuze it continued in the 20/21 season)
Red Star 1991 won with all home grown players. Maybe not local from Belgrade, but still all were from nominally same country.
The Alfie curse? Please predict England to get knocked out of the Euros mate
13:10 The 2011 Champions League was also won by a controversy. Aside from that already mentioned Jose Mourinho's allegiation regarding the UFC match in the 1st leg El Clasico semifinal, there was also RVP's harsh red card when Arsenal lost 1-3 to Barcelona in the 2nd leg of the Round of 16, after the English side won 2-1 in the previous leg.
20:35 The reason why Milan's 93-94 winning team had a spectacular season was the fact they scored the least amount of goal in Serie A. The Champions League Final was also one of the greatest game for Milan, considering they obliterated the strongest Barcelona team under Johan Cruyff by not using their own strongest team, as some key players were either suspended (Baresi and Costacurta) or injured (Van Basten).
Edit: The Alfie's jinx strikes again after Atalanta destroyed Leverkusen 3-0.
Deary me. You fucked it.

Great video as always. In the honorable mentions, Boca Juniors actually were 40 games unbeaten to win the Torneo Apertura in 1998 and the Torneo Clausura in 1999 (with the same couch and players that win the 2000 and 2001 Libertadores Cup and beat Real Madrid in 2000.)
And in the distant past, Boca had a streak of 51 games unbeaten between 1924 and 1926 with 44 wins and 7 ties. (Yes, i'm a Boca Juniors fan, of course)
Would love to see a video of teams having best european cup runs. Atalanta this season, RSB in 1991, Ajax in 2018-19, Mourinho's Inter and Porto, Sir Alex's Aberdeen and Brian Clough's Forrest, there are lot of great contenders.
Also, a video on the most underrated footballers since second world war. For instance, Gre-No-Li trio of AC Milan, Platini, Prosinecki, Tigana, Zico, Omar Sivori are not really celebrated as much as they should be.
Best would be United 08-09 when they went longest consecutive wins until being defeated by barcelona in 09 ucl final otherwise they undefeated for 2 seasons and nearly won 2 ucl while being invincible
Greatest football jinx of all time
I think it's weird that Alfie mentioned Porto 03-04 as an honorable mention but not Porto 10-11, in which they won the league (0 losses), Europa League, Cup, and Supercup. But it's a good video, like always!
If the greatest season is also based off the circumstances surrounding the club than if Leverkusen win the Europa League final and DFB Pokal final than that would be the greatest achievement in club football history, but based on the criteria of this list I do not know if it would get in.
Sampdoria, brilliant in the 80s and 90s now stuck in Serie B, Over to you alfie
