    My dad was a Prisoner of War in Stalag Luft 1, the same camp where Donald Pleasence was held during WWII. He loved the hell out of “Stalag 17.”

      God Bless your Dad. My grandfather fought with Patton in the Battle of the Bulge and got the Purple Heart. I also personally filmed a documentary with a well known Holocaust Survivor who wrote a book called Leap into Darkness that you should read.

      @@beyondz55 In the late 90’s, I produced several Holocaust Documentaries for the Holocaust Center in Maitland, FL. I scoured thru reels and reels of video documentaries as well as live interviews with Holocaust Survivors and Liberators. Incredible stories, all.

    I remember watching Scrooged over boradcast air on Christmas eve at my grandma's house in the early '90s. Here tv was so old that it had push knobs for basic over the air channels and the screen wasn't bigger than 13". Can't wait to pick it up on 4K.

    Stalag 17 could be considered a source material for Hogans Heroes

    I was sooo happy Scrooged got an upgrade! I bought it and haven't watched it yet, but I'm sure it'll be better than the BD from 2011 we've only had so far.

    Another very helpful review! I already own Stalag 17 4K (one of my favorite movies - I saw it when it was first released), but I just bought Terms of Endearment and Scrooged. I'll wait on Mission Impossible until Part 2 comes out.

    Nice work, Heath. Always enjoy your takes on these 4K releases. FYI: the Dead Reckoning 4K steelbook edition includes a Blu-ray Disc of the film, so folks who want both formats may want to opt for the steelbook. Paramount did the same thing with Scream (2022) and Top Gun: Maverick. Cheers, my friend...

    I am excited about all of these releases. Might not be too popular an opinion, but Mission:Impossible is my favorite movie so far this year. I found it a lot of fun and very well done.

    I believe the special features on the Scrooged release were originally for a dvd release that was canceled. I recall reading a post on a physical media forum that Bill Murray told Paramount that he did not want the behind the scenes footage to be released to the public, so Paramount had to cancel the dvd release. However, the person who posted the story said they couldn’t verified the story, so I would probably take this story with a grain of salt.

    Dear Heath,
    I so enjoy your videos, and expect you are old enough to recall this overlooked film. Please use your influence to ask for a 4K upgrade for Sam Peckinpah's Masterpiece " the Wild Bunch", one of the first films to use squib, exploding blood packets, that mimicked violent exit wounds from bullets. Besides the graphic violence, this great Western started, William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Edmund O'Brien, Strother Martin. If you haven't seen it, it is a must own, and a long overlooked Western deserved a 4K upgrade.

      It’s with Warner Bros and I seriously hope it’s being worked on! I know Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid is in development for 4K.

    I saw Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning in the cinema. I can't imagine getting the same impact at home! Plus it's the kind of film that will rattle around streaming services, then normal tv for a few years.
    I love Scrooged - any movie with Carole Kane and John Glover is well worth my time. But I don't like the scene where he has died and his nephew is weeping over him. The whole point was Christmas Future showing him that he would die unmourned - that was the tragedy, not that he had died!
    I must have seen Stalag 17: war films and cowboy films were a constant on tv when I was young. I'm interested to see Billy Wilder's take. I really hope The Front Page gets the good treatment - it isn't even available on DVD in the UK!

    Stalag 17 is an amazing movie. I don’t know why nobody mentions its similarity to Hogan’s Heros. I am a firm believer that if there were no Stalag 17 there would not have been a Stalag 13.

    • @chamilton4577
      @chamilton4577 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because so much time has passed. Believe me, everyone who was around when Hogan's Heroes came out knew. It was so obvious, no one even felt the need to point it out.
      If it's not obvious now, it's because the overlap of people who've seen both is so small.

    So, Paramount is degraining movies on disc to appeal to a younger audience, yet this audience isn't primarily the ones who are actually buying these discs. The ones buying grew up watching 35mm film and generally want to experience the movie as they did in cinemas, with the film's "baked in" glorious grain!

      I've been skipping most paramount releases this year because I don't like their grain management. Plenty of good releases that allow film to look natural and proper that's what I'm prioritizing for my collection

  • @TheAlexZorba

    So many decisions in this the greatest time to be a collector. Stalag 17 and Scrooged heck yes. This MI will get one day in a complete box set if at all. Terms of Endearment never. With the insane amount of releases and all the sales one must learn to be judicious. Im at the 1500 mark for films in my collection.

  • @MrCREWCRUSHIN95
    @MrCREWCRUSHIN95 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you use DNR excessively it smears the image (since the grain IS the image). So even if they added fake grain, it would still be obvious because it would be waxy people with grain.

    Is that any substance to the whole DNR then add grain point you mentioned? I’ve also heard that the transfer machines apply DNR, but I’m not buying that. With the whole American Graffiti 4K issue, I thought we were passed this problem in 2023.

    No question Tom Cruise turned Mission Impossible into his own James Bond...
    if you can separate the series from his movies then they're entertaining and fun, but it now bears no resemblance to the series.
    Interestingly, the Aus release is a 3-disc including bluray - odd for an Australian release

    by far SONY of the big studios have the best organic transfers with all the grain in tact. Paramount is the worse - whatever algorithm they use and people they have doing these transfers are so hit and miss. The grain field never looks great like Sony and many of the boutique labels.

    I thought new “Mission Impossible” was pretty bad… even compared to the last movie, history aside, new film is just “goofy” which my friends argued is in the tradition of these films but just overstuffed, convoluted, too many characters, and biggest stunt was spoiled by promos for the movie; over utilizes CGI which really takes away from the daring of stunt itself, while impressive, cheapened by CGI obscured by overcomplicated plot but yeah… I guess we’ll see what the Part 2 brings. Also, first time Tom Cruise looks haggard to me but you can’t blame him for aging 😅😂!!!

    • @CerealAtMidnight
      @CerealAtMidnight  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with a lot of what you're saying. Sometimes I think people mistake having fun at the movies with watching a good movie.

      @andrewhobkirk-frerichs9893 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure. It concerns me that the bar for movies is so high in terms of budget and spectacle there is no market for REGULAR movies I think the economics of theaters and the availability of streaming and large high definition TVs has also discouraged movie going for anything less than HIGH IMPACT effects driven movies although a lot of people still seem to sport for horror movies in theaters which is why it seems like the last bastion of intellect and creative ingenuity in terms of genre I see a lot more think pieces imbedded in horror. There is a lot of good stuff being made but harder to sell it in movie theaters although success of films like Barbie and Oppenheimer was encouraging although still movies with HUGE budgets but maybe a sign people will go to theaters for drama and comedy not just action perhaps the tides will turn people seem over satiated on CGI puff🤔
