There's only one Blu-ray release of The Time Tunnel worldwide so far, and it was put out by Revelation Films, LTD, which is based in the UK. The discs are region free, though.
There have been so many incredible martial arts movie releases this year. I know it's not your thing but I'm happy you still discuss them on your channel.
Hopefully I'll be able to add those Shaw sets from Shout Factory to my collection at some point. They dropped about $500 worth of Martial Arts box sets in the span of 6 months and that's too much for me to keep up with right now.
Heath glad you got LEAVE IT TO BEAVER I got mine from Walmart and Walmart boxes all tv shows. Amazon for tv shows is a gamble. TAKE CARE HAPPY NEW YEAR Looking forward to your 2024 videos.
Happy holidays, Heath. I think this is my first full year watching your channel. Really glad to have found you - too many of the dull completists out there, all about the jackets, and not enough movie fans. Love the Gen X energy. I also loved my Damiano Damiani COSA NOSTRA set, and the x3 spaghetti boxes. My Severin Soavi collection is finally in the post, so I’m looking forward to checking out the new prints. THE CHURCH was a favorite of mine when it came out in ‘89 - I must have been 14! Where does the time go?! Anyway, see you later- in ‘24
I’ve heard rumours about JB pulling out of the physical media market. They have had a few 30 percent off sales lately. I hope it doesn’t happen any time soon. Really good video thanks.
JB sales either side of Christmas are pretty common. I don't think that's an indication of them pulling the plug on physical media in Australia. If they did promotions in every other department except physical media at this time of year people would complain. They may move to online only for physical media (or you can order from a store for pick-up) in order to free up floor space. We'll see.
I did notice one difference during my last JB visit, being the lack of boxes for restocking that are normally filling the area below the shelves, only a single one under the 4k's. Unsure as to why.
Stock would sell out over Christmas/NY and can't be replenished quickly. However, it may have been the time you were there - had stock arrived? Was there heaps out the back not put on the floor - who knows? Also, I dont think you can order an out of stock item during a sale and get it at the discounted price, so that pushes people to buy online.@@brycecousens8859
I always appreciate the hard work, dedication, honesty, and passion. Thanks, Heath! God bless and stay safe! Have a wonderful New Year! I hope that 2024 ends up being a healthy, prosperous, and successful year for you.
Great video Heath, for my collection I added more silent and pre-code movies. From the Forbidden Hollywood collection adding a few volumes along with Warner Archive Collection, Criterion and Kino from that era of 20s, 30s, and 40s. Also some backcatalog of Universal and digital too if HD there and only DVD physical.
Labyrinth 35th Anniversary released in 2021 is the same but feels like a soft leather bound book. One of my favorites because of that feel. Several DigiBooks have been released before that going back into the DVD days.
Great picks Heath. I love your Best Of because you don't pick the popular obvious choices. Plus you love my favorite decade of the 50s. Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It To Beaver, we're part of my childhood syndication. And for those who only want the blu-ray version of these shows, Cmon, give the DVD versions a chance. It is the best it ever looked.
Ah I missed those Superman and D&D books. They look very cool so will certainly add their to my wishlist. So much amazing stuff came out in 2023 I can only imagine what 2024 has in store ! Should be another exciting year of cool releases and I can't wait to see what we get!
My favorites not mentioned here the shout factory release of Alf complete series and the recent release of the Vei re release of Threes Company the complete series which also includes the ropers and threes a crowd.
Do you have that Three's Company release? I'm curious about the video quality, encoding, etc. VEI doesn't have a great track record, though I've got about a dozen of their releases.
@CerealAtMidnight I did just receive the threes company release. The picture quality doesn't look incredibly amazing or anything but I assume it's as good as the old out of print set dvd set and better then all the tons of bootlegs floating around over the years. Packaging could be better as all the discs are in like a cd sleeve book and no traditional case so cheap packaging but I'm glad I got it.
This collection put out by Via Vision is probably way off your radar but I love it: Deanna Durbin: The Ultimate Collection. Although I bought the collection just this month, it technically was released in October 2022. The box contains 17 movies on 17 DVD disks.
You should review or do a compare/contrast the Northern Exposure blu-ray set, with the Turbine Media blu-ray one. I'd be curious as to your take on it.
Happy New Year Heath, thank you for all the great videos and podcast episodes this year. I’m always interested hear your thoughts and opinions on our favourite hobby. Keep up the great work bud 🤝
Keep up the great work, Heath. I love the interviews with the people who have a hand in what gets released and why. I have learned so much about the business of restoration. All media needs to be preserved, regardless of quality of story. This is part of our cultural history. Long live physical media. Now if I could only get my film students to support discs.
Thank you, Heath, for posting so many great videos. You touched upon something that's a little bit painful for me: I buy more than I watch. I am turning 40 years old in September of 2024, and I often sit down to watch something new -- often on 4K UHD -- and FALL ASLEEP after a long day at work and raising my five-year-old Son. For the next year, I plan to ENJOY what I buy. (Seriously, I have items from 2020 that haven't been opened yet!)
I'm glad I found your channel in 2023. I was glad to hear you describe Northern Exposure as a wholesome Twin Peaks. That's how I remember it, but its been so long since I saw that, or Picket Fences which also seemed like networks trying to figure out Lynch, and wasn't sure if I was misremembering it. I've been wanting to check it out, but was concerned it wouldn't feel as strange as I remember from my youthful nostalgia. I like shows with strange premises and characters--like the magical realism of Pushing Daises or David Lynch. I'll have to check Northern Exposure out again.
Northern Exposure is a beautiful show about life, populated by characters who wouldn't be out of place in a Coen Brothers movie. It bugs me when people call it Twin Peaks Lite because I feel like that misses its many merits. I do recommend revisiting it!
I made a mistake in ordering the 4k version of Barbs, since I don;t have a 4 k player. I found other was the 1080p double Blu ray.I've ordered the 1080p double Blu ray version.
Great video buddy. I always enjoy your passion for these boutique releases. I've been passionate about this stuff for years, ever since the Anchor Bay days. Keep on trucking brother 💪
Awesome Heath! Great video. Tales of Adventure 1 & 2(Imprint), Empire of Screams, Columbo, Vengeance Trails & Savage Guns are 🔥🔥🔥🔥👏. Here are a couple more that I enjoyed: The Ranown Westerns (Criterion), Stephen King, Walter Hill, and Sidney J. Furie box sets (Imprint), Duel, Cross of Iron, Apocalypse Tetralogy - Piotr Szulkin (Vinegar Syndrome). - keep up the great work Heath!
I didn't have your patience or your foresight to wait for that big box of ADVENTURES OF OZZIE & HARRIET DVDs. I was scared to death they'd stop putting them out before they got to Season 14!
It was a gamble! I could have missed out. It’s a catch 22 because I know it took the support of the customers to get all 14 seasons out, but then they got burned with an inferior product in the end. Also, I reached out to MPI Video before the holidays to interview someone about these releases, but no reply yet.
I greatly appreciate the work you put into your videos. While your channel goes in depth into the love of movies from all eras , so many channels are about hoarding and just going to the local big box store on a supposed hunt for new titles .a Creating a library of films that we will watch more than once should be the goal , if not better to try and track it down on Streaming .This is a great time also to obtain used copies of films at bargain prices as the general public gets rid of their physical media . I have been lucky this year of getting a 100 title collection of 3D films including many hard to find titles by regular visits to local Record and Movie stores.
So glad to see Barbarella in there. It’s one of my top 10 for sure! Ordering Red Rock West because of what your saying, umbrella kills it and I want those adventure box sets too from imprint. Empire of Screams, Psycho set, and Quartet of Torment were AMAZING from Arrow 👏
Universal is the OG Horror studio and for them to release quality blu ray /4k releases fits right in with their brand. WB was the studio that had those awful cardboard dvd cases - so for them not to deliver doesn't surprise me. Hey even their anniversary box-set is mostly MGM films that they have now the rights to. Haven't bothered actually on the movies the studio actually made.
I did horribly. I only got one of these (tellingly because I got it in a real store)--the Browning Criterion trilogy. But I do want several of these (esp. that Empire set). I went to Best Buy this month and picked up the Vestron BD of "My Best Friend Is a Vampire" (how cool!). Too bad they're almost done now.
It was a pleasant surprise to see this today. However, one issue I noticed a few are already addressing is cost. While the boom is nice, it's not cheap and is bound to discourage a lot of purchasing. Out of sheer annoyance, I purchased less the last the months out of the year than the first three. I am talking a 80% reduction in purchases. While there are a ton of films I would like to have, the idea of dropping $100-200 a month doesn't seem practical. And that is the low end and would get me 5-8 4ks from these boutique brands. So, I would like to know your thoughts because you have been vocal about not being a format bigot. I appreciate that. But I can't see how the prices and the deluge of product will benefit the boutique labels down the road.
My thoughts are do what works for you and if that means buying nothing and only watching on streaming, renting from your library, or borrowing from friends, that's what you should do. We're witnessing an unprecedented flood of product these last few years, but none of us are made of money and you have to take care of yourself, your finances, and your family. This is entertainment and we must never let the desire for accumulation diminish our quality of life. The second it becomes a strain, something is out of balance. And I say that as someone who has been struggling with balance for a long time.
Yeah, I saw where you emphasized that and really appreciated it. Few do. You also emphasized just seeing the film and I really loved that because it seems the film is taking the backseat to the format, baubles and extras. It should always be about the film. I love owning media. I study and write film. But I am also of the opinion that access to film shouldn't be hindered by accessibility. I genuinely believe Kurosawa would be bigger in the U.S. if one didn't have to drop decent money on his films or going through one distributor. These films were made to be seen by the masses and when we reduce them to being a collector's niche, it's not a good a good thing for the art. Of course, it's just my opinion. But I genuinely believe a lot of films have been hurt by some high-brow pretentions. Appreciate what you are doing. It's one of the few shows I recommend because it doesn't have the format bias.
Like, I prefer to buy bluray as my minimum standard, but a lot of these old tv shows are really gonna be fine on 720 DVDs, they weren't made to be seen in more than 480 lol. If they were shot on film and I can get a nice 2k or 4k scanned bluray that's great, but if you want the content you have to buy it.
As for "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", I bought ALL the seasons as they were released. Hoping MPI releases the bonus discs separately, because I want to see them. Not going to buy the box set since I already have all the seasons.
Legit! It's a little bit like that Twilight Zone episode where Burgess Meredith loves to read, but breaks his glasses. There's never going to be enough time.
Id say my favorites this year are, It Follows by Second Sight, The Bruce Lee Collection by Arrow Video, Alfred Hitchcock Vol 3. by Universal The Hellraiser The Quartet Of Tourmet by Arrow Video
Why does nobody talk about Kate and Allie? Lol My mom and i used to watch that show every night. It’s never gotten any attention. Was it ever syndicated?
It definitely has been an awesome year for the movies and we can tell. I'm a horror fan and the year has been good for horror but 2022 is gonna be hard to surpass ALL horror fans are saying it now that the year has come to an ending. Still I'm grateful for what we got during 2023 and the releases for 2024 are already looking great. I'm anxiously waiting for Inside The Mind Of Coffin Joe.😁
I can excuse Bonanza as an example only being a DVD release. That is the best possible way we can get it all. Streaming doesn't have a better source. In hypothetical territory all of them were in HD on streaming and then they did a physical media release of only DVD is why I say why no Blu-ray. You brought up Megan. I did not buy the Blu-ray but did the 4K. Any new theatrical release I will not buy on Blu-ray. 4K masters exist, put out on 4K. Paramount with their Paramount Presents line has trained me not to buy 4K scan Blu-ray release when they re-issue in 4K. You said other channels are focusing on quantity collecting and not caring. You say disregard format and buy what you love. Well most of us don't have the budget or studios sending us every release like you get. So me and I assume others concentrate on getting the best possible format we can get with our budget. If I like two releases I will buy the better format every time. Now if I want a title and DVD is the best way to get it, then so be it. I do not buy streaming since it is just a lease. I do not rent streaming as I rather own. So if a show has only DVD but is HD streaming, I don't watch. Plenty others out there to occupy my time with. That is why I at least express disappointment of why no... Another annoying thing is movies like Devotion and Sisu I will not buy but interested in seeing. They have 4K releases but only 5.1 audio. OK fine if that was how the movie was done like Nolan films. Problem is they have Atmos tracks with streaming. Again a release has to be as good as or better than what Streaming offers to get my limited dollar.
We must always remember that DVD outsells every other format by a healthy margin and probably always will. It's business. If a release won't make money, it's not happening. TV on DVD sells way, way more than TV on Blu-ray. It wouldn't matter if Bonanza had 4K scans on streaming, we'd still only get DVD because that's all most people will buy.
@@CerealAtMidnight If that were the case it wouldn't be deserving of my money and just a money grab by the studio. But do continue sitting on your high horse shilling for them with the multitude of freebies you get. The rest of us have a budget and damn well have every right to be upset when studios have better versions available for stream but try to sell the lesser to us. Same with 4K scans, if the work has been put in, release it best possible way.
I have a budget too, and I spend more than I should. I'm not your enemy, nor are the DVD fans who support more physical media than Blu-ray and 4K fans combined. Be well. Peace.

Regions B

Also, I reached out to MPI Video before the holidays to interview someone about these releases, but no reply yet.
I hope you have a happy and prosperous New Year 2024!🥳
I hope you do too, Hector!

I greatly appreciate the work you put into your videos. While your channel goes in depth into the love of movies from all eras , so many channels are about hoarding and just going to the local big box store on a supposed hunt for new titles .a
Creating a library of films that we will watch more than once should be the goal , if not better to try and track it down on Streaming .This is a great time also to obtain used copies of films at bargain prices as the general public gets rid of their physical media .
I have been lucky this year of getting a 100 title collection of 3D films including many hard to find titles by regular visits to local Record and Movie stores.
I hope Universal puts out a complete series of Simon & Simon
So glad to see Barbarella in there. It’s one of my top 10 for sure! Ordering Red Rock West because of what your saying, umbrella kills it and I want those adventure box sets too from imprint. Empire of Screams, Psycho set, and Quartet of Torment were AMAZING from Arrow 👏
Great!
Fabulous Films has the original music in their version of NORTHERN EXPOSURE
Variety and choices
Universal is the OG Horror studio and for them to release quality blu ray /4k releases fits right in with their brand. WB was the studio that had those awful cardboard dvd cases - so for them not to deliver doesn't surprise me. Hey even their anniversary box-set is mostly MGM films that they have now the rights to. Haven't bothered actually on the movies the studio actually made.
I'm not watching Ozzie & Harriet until it's available on 8K dammit!!
8K!!!.... it's the only way!📽 Just throw out yer ol' 4K!!
Christopher Reeve is the ONE-AND-ONLY Superman.
Health, I want to get Bloodsport on 4K, which version is the best version to get?
Definitely the Capelight release, but It all just comes down to which cover art you like best. I think all their discs are the same.
tokyo pop is my favorite kino lorber release this year
Hang on...
JB Hi-Fi is pulling out of DVD, Blu-ray and 4K?
Is that confirmed?
What are the details?
Not confirmed, and I've heard conflicting reports from Australians. No statement yet from JB Hi-FI.
Heath, I saw the movie, D&D Honor Among Thieves. I thought it was a great film. I’m going to rewatch it again to see stuff I missed.
It's so fun!
I thought I'd support jbhifi in Melbourne Australia. I chose the city store as this time of year people hit the malls in the suburbs.
Is JB Hifi pulling physical media? I cant find anything about it online
A rumor, at this point.
So jealous of all the stuff you have, but trying to find time to watch it all, damn😅
Legit! It's a little bit like that Twilight Zone episode where Burgess Meredith loves to read, but breaks his glasses. There's never going to be enough time.
No love for the Monster Squad 4k?
It's my third copy of the movie. It's great, but not one of my personal favorites of the year.
Id say my favorites this year are,
It Follows by Second Sight,
The Bruce Lee Collection by Arrow Video,
Alfred Hitchcock Vol 3. by
Universal
The Hellraiser The Quartet
Of Tourmet by Arrow Video
Remember Mr Ed?
Why does nobody talk about Kate and Allie? Lol
My mom and i used to watch that show every night. It’s never gotten any attention. Was it ever syndicated?
I'm pretty sure it was syndicated!
Cereal at Mill Creek haha
Be well. Peace.
