I agree that Tom Cruise has found his place in life, and in movies. The major shift came after the Oprah incident, and with that it seemed that Tom Cruise actually was scared that we wouldn't love him anymore. He tossed aside his dream of getting an Oscar, he ignored the drive to explore or to take dramatic risks in his acting and just went 100% into dumb action. He was basically saying, look what I am I doing for you, now love me, as he threw himself off a plane for our amusement.
After that he grew a little more confident, and realized that he no longer needed to be a sex symbol either, so he stopped hooking up with the leading ladies on screen and started making fun of himself. One great example is when he cast Henry Cavill who absolutely towered over him in the movies. He let himself be the butt of the joke, and coupled with the intensity in his performances, that worked so well to diffuse the tension.
Now he has found his place and his new confidence. He's still looking for our love, but now he knows the recipe. He knows that he just has to make an excellent, smart movie with crazy set pieces, and that's enough. Just make us forget the real world for a couple hours, every few years.. and we got your back through anything, Tom.

I'm really surprised you didn't see the previous entry (Fallout). It was easily the best entry of the franchise for me up to that point
Completely agree. I was excited for this film because Fallout was so damn good but left disappointed. Hoping that Part 2 will be better. For my money Fallout isn't just the best MI film it's one of the best action films of the last 20 years.

McQuarrie deserves way more credit for how he checks in with story and character at just the right moments to save you from exhaustion.
That's what I said too. McQuarrie builds good stories around Tom's chosen stunt sequences. They are a great team!

I just left the movie theater and literally can’t sleep because of how much it affected me. It was SO awesome…all your criticisms are reasonable and yet for me a perfect summer movie…I completely agree that TC thought of the audience…thought how the movie would look…spent the last 30mins wowing every other second which kept me on the edge! There is no action star like TC and the idea that he’s getting older and this has to end at some point brings me to tears

Finally a good movie from Holywood and as usual Tom Cruise is the only person left in the mainstream holywood circuit that can deliver this kind of entertainment.

This is easily the most consistent action franchise of all time, part 2 is by far the weakest but even that is very watchable and Tom with all his craziness is awesome.

I think he means the John Woo one. Slow motion, doves and thandie newton. Crazy how Tom is like in his sixties he should be in his old man Charlie Bronson action movie phase but he's still viable. Vampire Lestat his greatest performance, discuss?

@@Anthonycheesman33 I think Mission Impossible has John Wick beat, I think the first John Wick is still the best in the franchise, 2 was really good, 3 was pretty average and 4 was pretty good but Mission Impossible really got better with the later movies and that doesn't happen very often.

Saw it at a Tuesday early screening. Not the type of film I would usually enjoy, but I thought it was surprisingly good - Hayley Atwell's and Pom Klementieff's characters especially shine. The much talked about action sequences are great and they advance the plot, rather than existing purely as eye candy. Looking forward to part 2.
When the Piano fell down and almost killed them it was dope. Seeing all the furniture being cleared out the train car by it
really drove home the danger in a real way I loved the final scene
You are unique for delivering a whole review of a film without cutting away to clips; and I have no problem with that. McQuarrie could have had those cameras follow the locomotive to the bottom of the gorge but he thought no, there was a bigger story to tell; and I admire him for that
I think it was on your channel that I said this before, but I'll say it again, I used to really dig that Mission: Impossible got a new action director for each film, to change the flavor, as it were, every time we revisit these characters. And I've been disappointed with McQuarrie's take, and for some reason he gets direct all of them, now. I still see them, I still enjoy them, I just wish we could get back to different visions, and I sincerely doubt that will happen, as things stand. Great review!
I actually share the same opinions with you about Ghost Protocol vs. Rogue Nation. I enjoyed Ghost Protocol more. But from a storyline, Rogue Nation is superior. Think of Rogue Nation and Fallout as a 2-parter. Same villain.
From a visual standpoint, Fallout is the best. Well, I haven't seen Dead Reckoning yet. Maybe tomorrow. And I didn't care for Fallout when I first saw it in 2018. It took me 2 years later to appreciate it after binge watching 4, 5, and 6 with my brother who also didn't care for Fallout initially and had Rogue Nation as his favorite.
I think Ghost Protocol is still my fav because it's the most fun and funniest of that three. It's sorta like The Last Crusade is to the Indy films. Some funny banter. Doesn't fully take itself so seriously until near the end. I was actually watching a little of it earlier today and I still laugh at the scene in Moscow. Doing that hallway scene and Simon Pegg using that water drop sound to fool the guard.
Ghost Protocol was the first movie I saw when I lived in the Philippines from 2011-2016. Saw it with my cousin and we had a blast. I do still like Rogue Nation and Fallout. Love the opera scene and Rebecca Ferguson in RN. Ghost Protocol is the most fun but with the weakest story. Paula Patton is not a great actress but I thought she did fine in GP.
Ghost Protocol features Hoodie Ethan Hunt. The scene on the side of Burj Khalifa was awesome that Furious 7 copied it 4 years later but used cars.
Yes, Furious 7 is a really bad movie (only the ending was beautiful) which copied the scene from the masterpiece Ghost Protocol.
Tom Cruise is our generation's Charlton Heston. Both did a wider variety of roles in their early years, then went full action hero at middle age. I'm fine with that but I do miss seeing him stretch his legs like he did in Magnolia and Born of the 4th of July.

Did you see MI: Fallout? It sounds like you may have skipped to this one after Rogue Nation and if so you NEED to watch Fallout. I think it is better than this one and the best of the franchise. This one was great for sure but Fallout was better I think.
Fallout was really good. Just re-watched it and Rogue Nation within the last week. As good as both are, neither can hold a torch to Dead Reckoning. This latest movie has upped the ante so far, I've no idea how they're going to top it with Part 2.
I'll give though that the main villain in Fallout is better than the 'background main villain' in Dead Reckoning, which is a little silly. (Hopefully, it'll be explained a bit better in Part 2.)
My favorite Mission is probably still Ghost Protocol.
It definitely revived the series and brought back the heartbeat to the movies going forward!
Dead Reckoning was great, probably my 2nd favorite so far.
My one beef was that I was hoping for a more thrilling cliffhanger, because it is only part 1 after all. But nonetheless it's still overall a fun time🌟🍿
One thing I like about these movies is the actors portraying the Bad Guys take their job seriously. It helps to add a tension to the story. And some of these M.I. Bad Guys are nasty evil.

You see what you get? The tension is based on the reality of the story. Believability. So many movies have these kind of situations that are false to the story. When Happy Ending comes along we feel we have been ripped off. Because we have been.
Definitely should check out Mission Impossible: Fallout. It delivers on that summer Hollywood blockbuster with more precision and cohesion.

When I see a great movie for the first time I’m usually sitting there with this kind of stupid grin on my face most of the time. Because I’m loving how well crafted the movie is. And MIDR was just like that. As was Fallout, Rogue Nation and Ghost Protocol. All of these films except the slow motion drenched MI2 have been supremely well made. But beginning with “Ghost” this series really started hitting its stride. I would say this new one is about neck and neck with Fallout as the best so far. That Rome sequence, followed by the Venice sequence made me think “to hell with Indiana Jones, this is a real adventure.”
Been subscribed for awhile now and over the years discovered you're into MMA, you're unique, you're like a painting almost. and you're felt. Hope I get to meet you someday when I become known, having a platform in the future.
Rogue Nation definitely grows on you with rewatches. It's a smart entry. Maggie, please watch Fallout.

I have to chuckle when you say Tom Cruise in his middle age, he's 61 years old. If anything, he's a credit to how men can age if they take care of themselves and vigorously exercise.
Wow for such an intellectual critic you are so grounded, your review is not pompous and you are able to allow a movie not designed for Oscars to shine and highlight its ibtention and design which most snobbish ceitics cannot. It’s the worst of the McQuarrie MI films. The acting is hammy, the green screen for the train sequence is obvious and the plot is nonsensical
i didn’t really care for the a.i villain or pretty much anything to do with the grace character
however the emphasise on suspense, espionage & more personal character moments here was dope
felt like a more melancholic entry in the MI franchise
Henry Cavill /Walker from Fallout was a way more interesting character than Grace.
Perfect movie! If ever an action movie deserves a Best Picture nom-it’s this one. 💪🏽

I've enjoyed all of the mission impossible films. If I had to pick a favorite, I would say M:I 3. Hoffman was incredible. He was the best villain in this series.

Great review and I certainly agree about the film working well on so many levels but lacking the benefit of a stronger cinematographer. This is the one major advantage that the Bond franchise has had over the years with Roger Deakins, Hoyte van Hoytema and Linus Sandgren adding something uniquely cinematic. Bond being a more interesting character than Hunt is the other major advantage but Mission Impossible really excels in the hands-on approach to stuntwork from Tom and Wade Eastwood so it succeeds in delivering on the thrill factor and the casting and use of supporting players is also noticeably better with each new entry.
Just got home from catching an early viewing. Exactly what I wanted/expected. Not my favorite MI, but definitely lives up to the quality across the board. Just a fun, unapologetic, blockbuster, popcorn flick. Can't wait for the 2nd part.
Pretty disappointed by MI7 after all the positive reviews. Second worst after MI2 according to me. But I really liked the other 5. Everything seems too bloated. The car chase, the stunts. The story is pretty thin and way too unrealistic to care. Hopefully MI8 will tie everything together nicely.

MI7 is indeed an insane "adrenaline rush". Regarding some of your other comments, it makes me wonder if we watched the same movie....or maybe that you should've splurged for the IMAX showing. There is a parallel of sorts to Indy5 in that they both have train scenes and extended vehicle chases. This definitely blows Indy's competent scenes out of the water; particularly, the ending train sequence is the most thrilling one ever filmed, so I don't get your critique over "camera angles".
A few historical points: MI2 was a terrible movie. A dud that nearly killed the franchise, because of Cruise's obsession at the time with working with "art house directors".
Rogue Nation gets better with each re-watch. It's only on my most recent watch last week, that I realized something really smart but buried a bit 'deep' in the motivations of the secondary villains which explained something for me that I'd previously thought was a plot hole. You complained about it's cinematography, although that one had the absolutely stunning setup with Ferguson in the yellow dress and the backstage dollies at the opera.
Lastly, you need to see Fallout, because it was a tight continuation from Rogue Nation...and Fallout introduced the White Widow character, who plays a significant role in MI7.
Yep MI7 is way better than Indy 5 in plot and action too. Indiana Jones 5 was just a tired re tread while MI7 was a solid action movie with some pretty scary AI stuff to ponder

I recently rewatched them all back to back with my daughter. I was never a big fan of these movies. To me they were entertaining in the moment but they left no lingering impact on me. They were one and done experiences for me. However having rewatched them again ive discovered a new appreciation for them. None of them are perfect but all are entertaining, and i feel the series really found its footing with Ghost Protocol. The first 3 are vastly different from each other and this to me just felt like a series with no identity, whereas everything from protocol onwards felt like a series that knew what it was doing and what it wanted to be. If i were to rank them from worst to best

I just don't know about a Part 1 and Part 2 movies as it seems like we're being held hostage until we see the next episode, like what if the first one was disappointing, or maybe Part 2 was not as good. The train sequence is absolute madness MUST SEE on the big screen.
I just watched Dial of Destiny a second time a few hours ago. As I predicted, it doesn't get better for me. I know some think DOD is better than KOTCS but it's not for me. Crystal Skull had more fun. Like watching Indy, Marion, Mutt, Oxley, and Mac keep falling from a waterfall. There was banter. No dull scenes even if some of it was completely over-the-top and ridiculous.
After Indy, Helena, and Teddy escaped from the boat, there is like 20 minutes of boredom. No interesting dialogue. No nice scenery. It's just in a cave. Then another night shot in the rain when Helena tries to chase down a plane with a motorcycle. None of the characters are likeable, not even Indy anymore. Helena and Teddy are such a bore. Where is the witty banter way before MCU did it thanks to RDJ? I wish Sallah and Marion joined in on the adventure but what can we expect? They're so old like Indy!
Three senior citizens going on another great adventure or wild goose chase just doesn't seem plausible. Hence, why the action sequences weren't as epic. They had to tone it down since an 80-year-old actor is portraying a 70-year-old hero. This was a deconstruction of Indy according to Mangold? More like a destruction. An abortion. There was nothing good about the film except the ending. Karen was the best part. Indy & Marion is one of the greatest cinematic couples in history. That's really the only scene that brought a smile to my face and deserved any claps. Everything else felt depressing, boring, or stupid.
I thought the hotel/auction scene had potential to be fun like one of those Western saloon fights but it didn't happen. And how did the day get so bright? When Indy arrives, it's still fairly dark. Not even dawn yet. He's in that hotel for no more than 5 minutes. By the time they go outside, it's completely sunny. Watching it a second time made me hate Helena some more. What a total asshole! Then laugh after Indy's friends are killed and reply with a "I'm sorry' and then move on.
When Indy sees her in Morocco, she mentions how he's wanted for murder. Um, that's on you, b*tch! You led them to their deaths by stealing that artifact. Then you lock Indy up who was later being held by gunpoint. I didn't care for Teddy either. Short Round and Mutt have way more charisma. Dial of Destiny was a soulless movie. I really wish Banderas' character didn't die that soon. I believe had they went as a group of like 5, the movie might have some fun to it. Every dialogue felt dull. The action scenes were mediocre at best. Way too many dark scenes.
I enjoyed Love And Thunder, Dominion, Nope, Bullet Train, Bodies Bodies Bodies, and Don't Worry Darling more than Dial of Destiny. I think DOD is as bad as Solo, Attack of the Clones, and JW: Fallen Kingdom and I hate those movies! Is it the worst movie I've ever seen? No. Not even close. But it's bad. It's only worth seeing for Karen Allen's return and listening to John Williams' music. When the script disappointed Karen Allen, that's all you need to know.
Under Spielberg's script, Marion was supposed to be more involved. Then she gets replaced by one of the most unlikable female characters or KK's alter ego. Now I wish they never killed off Mutt. Killing him off meant less screen time for Marion and this movie needed more of her. When Helena punches Indy in the face, it really is a metaphor of modern Hollywood. Someone wants to stay in the past. Nah. Punch him and drag him to present time to stay miserable.
I know this sounds bad but I wish they could make an Indy 6 using more of Spielberg's script and release it 2-3 years later. This can be Indy's last true film. Have George more involved. I don't want Indy to end this badly. Bring back a younger man who can replace Indy. Not that god daughter from hell. And give us scenes with adult Short Round. He can be the grandfather to Data who goes on an adventure himself involving friends and pirate ships in Astoria, Oregon. "That's what I said, booby traps!"

Here I am thinking we need more Indy films while ignoring the redundant MCU crap. I just find Indy's history more fascinating than all this superhero crap. One great thing about Indy is it's not episodic like Star Wars, Back To The Future, and The Godfather. You can watch any of the Indy films in any order. Heck, the sequel to Raiders is really a prequel in terms of the story.

Here's the irony to all this. I watched it a second time which is like 10 days after release and the theater at the top where everyone sits was like 80% filled. At least 40+ people were in that theater and it's a Monday / 6PM showing. And I still heard claps at the end like I did the first time. Not as loud as the first time but as loud as the first time I saw The Flash.
I thought The Flash was a much better movie even with some glaring flaws, awful CGI, and younger Barry being annoying. But The Flash only got a 3-week run in my local theater. The last day was last Thursday. It didn't even get a 4th weekend. It was gone in a flash, alright. When I saw it a second time like 11 days later, there was like only 6 people which included me. But I estimate at least 40 for Indy 5 .
So I'm thinking as bad as Dial of Destiny was for me, it should make more money than The Flash. It's Indiana Jones and it's a family-friendly franchise. Jurassic World: Dominion is a bad movie too and that still made over $1B last year. Still, Indy 5 was more expensive to make than The Flash. About $75M-$95M more.
To break even, Indy 5 needs to make $600M. I don't see that happening. I see only $400M while The Flash makes below $300M. Either way, they're both the biggest box office flops in recent memory. But I see Indy 5 having a little more staying power being how much more popular Indiana Jones is over The Flash. But we're watching a bad movie get rewarded if it happens to make a lot of money.
Oh well, at least we still have Lara Croft and Nathan Drake, those Indy copycats that started from video games. Tomb Raider and Uncharted are in modern times but neither will ever be truly great as the Indiana Jones franchise. I will say I enjoyed the Tomb Raider from 2018 way more than Dial of Destiny. Why not use Alicia Vikander over Fleabag instead? Alicia is far more easy on the eyes and Lara has a British accent.
I now truly hate you, Kathleen Kennedy. If George Lucas' creations are going to be ruined, let George do it. It's his right to ruin them. Not his glorified secretary who got producer credits because she was dating and then married Frank Marshall.

The fact that you haven't seen Fallout means this review is not reliable because you should have made that comparison. Dead Reckoning was a huge disappointment to people who saw Fallout.
Rogue Nation was my favourite, but none of the new ones have been bad so hopefully this continues the trend. McQuarrie is a great filmmaker. Second one was my least favourite as John Woo went full John Woo and didn't really feel like an MI movie.

Christopher McQuarrie did rewrite Ghost Protocol so I can see his fingerprints on there and Rogue Nation was where the franchise found their footing and Fallout delivered what felt like the culmination of the series so I’m curious how this stacks up. My favorite Mission movie is still the Brian DePalma one though.
Due to the lack of quality movies of late, I’m getting the first 6 movies. I don’t mean to belittle TC’s work but it’s not necessarily my cup of tea. I loved the first Top Gun. The second one was very good and I appreciate his appreciation of the fans/paying customers. So I decided since there aren’t many movies out worth watching, and to show my appreciation of the respect he showed the customers, I’d put my money where my mouth is and pick up the first six. Seeing 7 tomorrow.

Interesting review, thanks for that. I do hope it makes the studio a lot of money. But these over the top action movies are just a bit too cartoonish for me. But glad to hear that many like it. The more money a studio makes the more chances that some of the money will filter down to more movies that take greater chances.

I didn't really feel this movie until Gabriel shout Ethan's name at the end. Immediately bought a ticket for the next screening.

I didn't like this one... Everyone is just so darn intense all the time. Every line is delivered in such a serious and overacted way. Than they go and kill the only character I liked, halfway through: Rebecca Ferguson's character. And it"s not only that she dies, but she is killed in a stupid way... how do you lose to someone who has a knife when you are wielding a long pointy sword? All you have to do is poke the guy! And they telegraphed her death so much. As soon as Tom got stuck in the narrow alley with the two goons and the fight dragged for so long... I knew Ferguson's character was a goner... I checked out of the movie after that.
This woman is very easy to listen to. I really appreciate her videos.
the most glaring gripe for me was how unnecessary and meaningless the two cop characters were, they not only hogged screen time and weren't entertaining, but they only served to show the audience how they don't know whether or not to blindly follow their superiors or do the right thing
"Especially as he goes into his middle age" Uh, Tom Cruise is 61 years old..he's WAY beyond that. (Unless he gets to 120 years old, which may be possible)

Guy flies jets, does things we would never do, keeps us entertained, and reminds us CGI can never match practical stunts. Sounds like a formula for success.
This one is definitely worth it on the big screen, even though it's far too long. I loved Hayley Atwell's character, and the climax was epic. The series has never done better than part three and four, but in terms of consistency, it is far and away one of the greatest franchises of all time. I respect the hell out of Cruise for realizing that he is the last movie star and not trying to be anything else. He knows his place and his purpose, and he gives the audience what they want. Sign me up for _Dead Reckoning: Part 2._
A big-budget summer blockbuster that delivers everything that was promised. Tom Cruise knows his audience. Agree that this was excellent. I also agree that motorcycle, however impressive as the showcase, wasn't as impressive for me as driving the Fiat 500 through the streets of Rome. So fun! I would disagree about not seeing earlier films, that watching from Rogue Nation makes sense since you see the relationship with Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust which was a turning point in the series in my view. She added so much! In this, the addition of Hayley Atwell was a master stroke. See in the largest theatre you can find, I saw in IMAX. Worth the money!
Yet another magnificent review from you! So fun, so, so intelligent. It blows my mind that you so appreciate all of these other tiny films which I'm completely unaware of, yet revel in such frothy summer Hollywood fare. And it's an added bonus that you don't seem to hate men or our mythology.

The MI franchise has built a story arc over the last several films that has established them in a class by themselves. The films with DePalma, Woo, and Abrams were strong in their own right, but there was nothing that made the films link together very well. The McQuarrie MI movies are very strong in terms of their action scenes and storytelling. But the driver of the movies remains Tom Cruise strength as a performer; the muscle he brings to his role is significant on every level. I will say that Cruise is not only the greatest actor is his generation, he is definitely one of the greatest of all time. I cannot think of any of his movies that could be called bad. Even a bad Tom Cruise movie is better than most people's best movies.

when you talk about tom cruise, i remember thinking about his masculinity and i must say, its mindboggling. he CAN be romantic and approachable, emotional, yet he can be tough in the smartest way while still being SUPER physical. its impressive, isnt it? there are other actors he do action, but his smartness hardly anyone matches. zero humor, all respect and you totally buy it. i do, at least. great acting.

wait a minute, its a part one, presumably of two? or ...three, or ...? i mean so was the ending satisfying? or did they leave you hanging? like the batman tv show tune in next time for part two for the exciting conclusion? sounds like it ended fine and i guess i dont see the point of it being a 'part one' from the review here (which was otherwise great as usual of course). can someone comment on this? just because these multi parters can be frustrating. gracias.

I don’t get the high praise we just saw it and I would put it behind every movie except the second one. Wanted to love it and it had great parts but just didn’t work.
If you liked this I think you would love John Wick: Chapter 4. It is hands down one of the greatest american action films of all time. Levitated in the theatre while basking in the stunts and the absolutely gorgeous cinematography. Much more flair to the filmmaking than the Mission Impossible franchise, even though I like it a lot too.

I love the first John Wick film, but I feel like the sequels steadily declined in quality, with Part 4 being the “worst”. It’s not a bad film, but the movie is nearly 3 hours long with almost every action set piece overstaying their welcome.
Hey Maggie, I think you should see Fast X and have a look at their action scene in Rome. They use pretty much the same locations as MI7. I think you will have fun comparing the tactics the movies use to build action and suspense

so true, as you note "cruise's star power drove the MI franchise" to fruition. will add that cruise had begun maturing as an actor and that if not for his significant improvement i doubt that MI would have enjoyed the sustain it does to this day (and still some beyond).
i mean we still see top gun, boyish goofing and grinning laughter in the first installment...and stll quirks in the second..
a further good example is his delivery even upto spielberg's '02 masterpiece "minority report", especially in the the final conflict's resolution when the confrontation with burgess and his covert deeds begin's seriously escalating in complexity---->you can easily pluck out cruise's read line acting tendency like horta (χόρτα: edible weeds) sprouting near after a rain fall.
he didn't fully step in unti; supported by seymour hoffman, a far more memorable antagonist than dougray scott, the third installment and which took two additional, six not four, years to release (and, i know but, even if the story/film suffered the stooge ensemble of kurtzman, orci and especially abrams mess).
he was very strong in "oblivion" (i really like and appreciate kosinsky's dediction and world building ability as a director) and "live, die, repeat" with blunt (and , of course, gleeson).

I found Tom Cruise quite robotic in his acting, and the action scenes are among the least spectacular of the whole franchise, imo.
I do agree that a lot of the dutch angles got a little too much, I think McQuarrie was obviously trying to go back to Del Palma's style even bringing in Kittarage into the film which was a fun reference. The plot also I don't think is far fetched or dumb, its really quite stressful what AI is becoming these days.

I've just returned. It's evident this is a pandemic movie. The practical stunts look better behind the scenes as there's far to much VFX added. Some shots look 'like' they've used an Insta360 (obviously they haven't) to prove it's him - not necessary in my opinion. Some evident continuity gaps with his hair for example - even on the very next shot.
Overall it's great just not unreal. He's peaked with Maverick. McQ stated last week that MI8 is 40% in the can. I'm hoping without the pandemic that this will end up looking more seamless.
Eddie is absolutely amazing with editing but there's a scene with Vanessa Kirby (in the background but clearly in shot) where's she's speaking dialogue in the 3rd act and her mouth isn't even moving.

Absolutely 💯 epic. Besides some cheesy dialogue and funny lines about “the entity” and other silly plots I’ll say this turn to be one of the best action pieces that I have seen since fury road. Characters went berserk specially Paris, love that villain and the chemistry between Grace and Ethan work also very well too. A very enjoyable theatre experience. Oppenheimer isn’t the movie this year to take u back to cinema, is Mission Impossible dead reckoning part 1
Last year it was Top Gun Maverick, this year Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning. Tom's burning on all cylinders and is leaving more message conscious movies choking in the dust. Where will he go next? Stay tuned!
No thanks. Cruise is possibly the worst actor among the biggest hollywood movie stars of all time- maybe Rock Hudson. Totally unbelievable in every role (even as husband to his then wife Nicole Kidman in EWS) .
