Love how Dr. Gray isn’t afraid to tell people the truth!! “Don’t have a plan B because it’s a distraction”, sounds harsh but in this students case this is especially true.

I love this mentality. I wanna be the best in my field and save lives, give patients good care and put 110% of myself into it everyday. Can't do that if I'm setting up my plan B that's taking 40% of me.
Sounds weird but I don't want a doc that had a plan B, i want a doc who's EVERYTHING is medicine

Backup plans are very important in terms of "what am I going to do over my next gap year if I don't get in." But as for a plan B for your entire career, yes agreed you ideally shouldn't focus on that until you've been rejected for multiple cycles.

I used to watch application renovation for fun while eating dinner every night in preparation for when I would apply to med school the next year. I then on a whim decided to apply to PA school instead and had to submit an application in 2 weeks before the deadlines of many programs this past September. Had I not watched almost all of Dr. Gray’s videos, I would not have had the mindset to submit an application that conveyed who I am and my passion for medicine very well. I knew exactly how to come across, how to craft my personal statement, and how to write about my extracurriculars. Despite my late application (PA school applications open in April), I got accepted to my top school and will be starting this fall straight out of undergrad. Dr. Gray is an amazing resource!!

This dude clearly didn't do his research on how to list things in his application before applying and it shows. That being said I believe he realized he didn't and that's why he made the smart and brave choice to have Dr. Gray critique his app.

It’s simple. I like the video, and then I grab my snack and relax.

I wish he would review an application that had red flags but got into medical school.

Dr Gray goes through a couple, but sadly the red flags are really trivial. Usually something like inadvertently cheating (unknowingly texting an answer to help someone) or drinking in a dorm (very benign minor infraction of college policing); never anything that felt like a true red flag though. Most had good explanations and it felt more like a technical foul as opposed to a flagrant foul or even personal foul (to use a basketball metaphor)

Dr. Gray's idea of clinical experience is a bit unrealistic for premeds. The general rule is if you're close enough to smell the patient, it is clinical. Premeds are limited in what they can do and medical school and residency will give you all the training you need. What they can't teach you is how to be good with patients. If you're able to converse with patients, that's what schools are really looking for.

What do you recommend for Canadian students who may have a hard time getting clinical experience? Opportunities are VERY limited
