      Yeah and they wonder why there is a physician shortage lol idk why they make it a pain to get into medical school like why the hell do they weigh the personal statement so heavily there is an interview process for a reason, like what the hell is the essay for if medical schools still interview you and hear your answer for “why medicine”

    • @blackflower6635
      @blackflower6635 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The process is not only brutal. It is annoyingly stupid and the worst thing is that these medical schools think that this is the best process.

    • @Scriabin_fan
      @Scriabin_fan ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @blackflower6635 As someone with pretty average stats, it's honestly so frustrating seeing people with stats like this who are obviously very intelligent get rejected. It makes me wonder if medical schools even want intelligent people lol.

    I’m not disagreeing with any critiques of the app, but shouldn’t the fact that the applicant has shelled out thousands of dollars be an indication that they *do* want to be a doctor? If someone was gonna half-ass it, would they have done an SMP, four MCATS, and multiple applications? That’s gotta be a down payment on a house.

    • @AlphaNumeric123

      What that indicates is the might like the idea of being a doctor, or being successful, more than actually being a doctor. Do you want to be successful or do you want to be a doctor? It seems weird that you’re so sure you want to be a doctor when you don’t have any demonstrable experience to show you know what that even means.

    • @JossinJax

    Why wasn’t there a discussion about DO schools? Especially the ones who like reinvention. I also wonder if that “dip” in MCAT score was due to the “short MCAT” during early Covid. This student likely has 3 failed cycle. Now needs to add clinical. That sounds like he shouldn’t apply in June, but wait until June 2023 so he has something to put down.

  • @estherkim985

    only got to 16:40 but personally i think his work/activities section can be majorly improved by being more specific. for physician shadowing, he says he became a team member rather than an observer, but he could specify exactly how he did that. or for his medlife service learning trip, he could specify how his decision to become a physician was further reinforced or what specific lessons from this experience would help him become a better physician in the future rather than simply stating he promised to make the child brush her teeth. overall, his w/a section is pretty vague and sometimes his writing seems like a trail of his thoughts/him trying to sound deep (e.g., "when searching for a service experience, i asked myself what was something i have never had to struggle with but others do"). he could've written that same sentence in a lot less words and focused more on the actual experience itself.

    I totally feel for him on the MCAT during COVID. Same thing happened to me, and it felt impossible to keep studying.

    • @jlau5634
      @jlau5634 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is anecdotal, but it seemed like with the shorter Covid MCAT, students either did noticeably better or worse than expected. Don’t know if that with fewer questions, if they happened to be ones you could answer correctly, you did better, and if the fewer questions happened to be too many that you couldn’t answer, you did worse.

    This MD is being very bias to me about his criticism. So what if his volunteers work is old , this guy took the MCAT 4 times . Clearly dedicated. Ps , some people don’t come from a family that can pay there bills etc . So he may was working to take care of his self .. taking a dream from a person , because his application isn’t the way you want it to be . Smh 🤦🏽‍♂️

      We are here to help him get an acceptance by highlighting gaps in his application that med schools may have rejected him for, it's an extremely competitive process and the application is extremely important.
