In Mandarin, 14 is 十四 (Shi Si) (Ten Four), and 40 is 四十 (Si Shi) (Four Ten), and they both have similar pronounciations, so that's why it's a tongue twister.
Just try to remember the first several words of a lengthy tongue twister in a language you're unfamiliar with, forget the rest of the words and hope for the best. There's no way my brain could remember more than 6-8 words in a language I can barely pronounce, so I wouldn't even try. I mean as an English speaker all someone would have to say is 'how much wood' and I would know immediately what tongue twister they're referring to I wouldn't need them to say the whole thing.
Because tongue twisters are used to learn to have a flat tongue and become warped, but I am from Sichuan, and I basically speak Mandarin with a flat tongue. 所以我们一起来学中文吧？（So let's learn Chinese together.）

the si shi tongue twister I wouldn’t have understood unless there were the characters…I haad to look it up only until I recognized the characters…that’s why Chinese characters are so important to learn cause I embarrassingly did not understand it from the pinyin text and them speaking 😢
