    Great comparison, appreciate your effort.
    Can the sharpness different due to the bigger megapixels? Is it possible to down size to the same megapixels and see if that helps?

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damon Song I'm definitely sure downscaling the image would make it seem sharper. Keep in mind that in the tests I zoomed in 1:1. If you aren't pixel peeping I'm sure the images wouldn't be as bad as it seems. Thanks for the comment!

    You got noise in all pictures, regardless of ISO. In some photos noise can add atmosphere and mood. I think the fear for noise must be related to age. If you had grown up with positive and negative film, you would have a different opinion.
    You should have a consistent focus point and kept an eye on the minimum focus distance before the "test". This is much harder than you obviously believed.

    Adjust your eyeballs dude. Just by the fact of showing the Fs pictures bigger than the S they seem less sharp. It doesn't mean that they are. I know you are zooming to 100% but it is just a crappy comparison.

    Unless you focused manually/carefully, you can't compare autofocus. There is no 'fixed itself'. Operator error.

    Great comparison!
    does it mean the xt2 and the xpro2 's ISO performance is on par to the x100s since you compared it with the same 3rd generation sensor?

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment! I've never looked at the xPro2 and the XT-2 but I have heard that the X100F is basically a baby Xpro2 so your theory may be correct. I would say the important thing here is the handling of the cameras. Do you need a smaller body? Or the ability to change lenses? Or is video important to you? So my suggestion is to try them out at a store. Thanks again!

    • @dropyvisuals4355
      @dropyvisuals4355 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Somebody's Opinion I've tried it on the store, the handling and such(im not picky when it comes to handling) . But they won't let me take away atleast one sampe images for me to examine.
      So i can't really see the difference if i based it in the view finder. thanks for responding.

    Great video!. Thanks for doing this :) and for your objective presentation. As I have used the S extensively, I can really relate to this comparison.. and honestly.. to me performance wise, I am feeling like there is not much of a difference between the two. Nothing like the "huge performance improvements" as touted by sponsored reviewers or who bought the new F. The AF performance is better it but makes me think... is it due to the new battery? Will try one next month and decide if I really want to buy the F.

    • @SMBYopinion

      Hey Sameer,
      Glad the video was helpful!
      Speaking of battery, there's a point about the battery I'd like to talk about. I will probably make a video mentioning it soon. Stay tuned!

    • @VrilYa100
      @VrilYa100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! While you are at it, it would be interesting to note if the improved AF is actually a better lens to sensor matching.. or simply the result of more power. Saying this because the S had power settings that affected the AF speeds. Thanks!

    I may be wrong, but it seemed to me that both images are not fully focused. I have the x100s and the x-t20 + 23mm f2. I know it is not equal to x100f, but the sensor is the same. In good light situations I don't notice big differences, but in low light with ISO from 3200 onwards, the superior quality of the X-Trans III can be noticed. Good light ISO testing doesn't make much sense.

  • @PGfotografie
    @PGfotografie 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Nice test but in my opinion the test is superfluous if you do not use RAW images... The question is not which Sensor has the better Software noise reduction function.

    • @marcusrembold7115
      @marcusrembold7115 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Good Point. Furthermore, it seems to be a quite well known fact that the X100 series suffer from softness in the close up range (due to field curvatures of the lens?) wide open. I don't really get it why people always try to judge the performance of a lens / sensor by shooting table top objects. Go out and shoot some landscape, street, club or anything else in "real life". And then try to judge the performance again... ;-)

    • @tempest01100
      @tempest01100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But in "real life" situations, like those you suggest, it's difficult, if not impossible to get two identical scenarios to match the cameras on. As we all know ilght and movement can change in a nanosecond.

    The reason for the shorter DOF at the same aperture is the effect of a larger sensor.

    Most of the differences are only slightly noticeable when magnified. Take 50 random shots under different settings and conditions and put them on a wall and have people look at them and ask them which photo was taken by to S or the F model I would bet almost nobody could ever tell the difference...................................................

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello!
      Key differences from the 2 cameras:
      1) EVF focus window when using the OVF
      2) Wifi for transferring. (Yes you can use an Eyefi card of the "S" but its cumbersome and dumps ALL of the photos on the card)
      3) Third stops on the Aperture Ring
      4) CLASSIC CHROME!
      Would I upgrade from "S" to "T"? No.
      But if I were to pick between the 2, I would for sure go for the "T".

    • @1983banana1983
      @1983banana1983 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pioneer7777777 The T for Classic Chrome and you feel the difference with the S. I have the T but thinking about switching to the F. Build feels more durable to me, the new sensor, etter EVF, Acros (!)and the same battery as in the X-Pro2.

  • @Kdkjdjewerdnxa

    The reason the dial is blurry on the F is because you didn't focus in the exact same place on each camera. You pan down to the lens and it even shows that more of the lens is in focus on the F which is why less of the back of the camera would be in focus, you fucked up lol. ISO wouldn't "fix" the depth of field either lol.

  • @gregt8655
    @gregt8655 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had the x100f and had to return it because every time i removed the battery or memory card the camera would reset to default factory settings. I did take some photo's in fairly good light and i was really disappointed with the amount of noise and smearing at iso 6400, [in raw] it was totally unusable. Maybe I got a bad example but it was very disappointing.

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg T Quality Control on the "F" is noticeably worse than previous generations. Tbh, this one I purchased was my second, the first one had a faulty LCD screen. Hopefully things worked out for you in the end!

    Excellent Video, and very helpful comment! Thanks for that! In todays world of constantly new cameras models and their subtile marketing, it's hard to find the tool that really matches your specific needs. Over all: we need less of these cheering (and possibly sponsored) videos in witch only the new toys are good enough, but more of such independent opinions with such clear comments as of "somebody's opinon"!
    @Fotograf Patrick Gawandtka: agree with you. however this is just one information. Beside this, the softness of the picture as a result of the lens-sensor relation speaks for itself. Again good test!!

      Yes, up close the lens is quite soft wide open. This is fairly widely known, but when you shoot further back, images become tack sharp at f/2 and 2.8 (assuming you nail focus).

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are indeed very similar cameras, just the subtle improvements that make them different. Sometimes we get so hung up on changing gear we neglect to realize what we need vs what we want. So if those improvements are important to you and your workflow then upgrade, if not then you're good! Great comment.

      shigsho Hey shigsho. Good observation. The F "appears" closer because it has more megapixels! 24 vs 16. Zooming in on a higher res image makes it seem closer but it's definitely not a distance issue.

    So the difference is 16mp on an Apsc sensor or 24mp, 50% more pixels on the same surface area, lens is the same, make of that what you will..
    End of the day only people with time on their hands spend any length of time blowing up pictures looking for tiny amounts of CA.
    The rest of the world is more interested in the content in the photo itself, not if the trees 5 miles away in the background are slightly mushy.

    IQ is almost indistinguishable. It's the same technology, same APS-C sensor tech, same lens tech. Fujifilm is milking the hell out of the x100 and it's 3 iterations, and you Fujidrones are lapping it up like dogs.

    • @KentuckyMan30
      @KentuckyMan30 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In fairness, he didn't test the RAW image quality between the two. You do get a bump in resolution with the new X-Trans III sensor and you can shoot at higher native ISO's. Auto focus is improved as well. I'm an X100S user and the biggest selling point for me is the better functionality of the redesigned back. I hate the scroll wheel on the back of the X100S and the quasi dial/scroll wheel at the top. The joystick on the X100F is very appealing as well. So, there are some appealing updates to older X100 series users. Whether or not the price in upgrading is worth it is a different story, but the advantages are there nonetheless.

    • @SMBYopinion
      @SMBYopinion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BoxxyFan Very true in terms of IQ, but I also agree with Kentuckyman30's comment. These 2nd, 3rd, 4th generations are mostly aimed to improve on handling. Whether or not those improvements can benefit your shooting experience should be your deciding factor.

    • @tempest01100
      @tempest01100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm with you, can live with the slightly slower AF on the 100S so the only improvement worth considering the investment is the re-designed back on the 100f.
