I was watching the evolution of the X100 concept from the original over 10 years ago. I delayed, and delayed, and delayed, until the X100V. I always knew the concept was a perfect fit for me but it was the weather-sealing that finally made me press the "Buy" button on the V. The new sharper lens was a bonus. It was clear from the outset that Fuji was making modern classics with this camera line. I got mine for retail price, before the buzz set in. I haven't regretted buying it. In fact, at my club's regular photo competitions, I realised that all my recent entries were taken on the Fuji (not my Canon cameras). Part of that is because I always carry it (Peak Design 3Litre Sling ... perfect day bag) but also that the hype around the beautiful images is real. I just dial-in a slightly modified "Classic Neg" recipe and everything just looks amazing. I can't get the same look using Photoshop on a RAW image no matter how I try. I know there will be a Mk6 soon, probably 40Mp, possibly stabilised, but it's irrelevant for me. The only way I'd consider replacing it is if they do a Full-frame version. Don't get me wrong. If I were shooting a wedding then I'm taking 2 Canon bodies and some L lenses. The Fuji would be great though, to hand to a 2nd shooter, to get some candid/informal shots. I've been shooting "Street" for 40 years (30 years before anyone called it "Street Photography") and the Fuji is the very best tool I've owned for that (superseding my 35mm Olympus XA2 and Pentax ME Super + 50mm). Nothing makes better urban Street images than these Fuji. Just buy one. I doubt you'll lose money if you don't like it and sell it.
agree! my x100f also was submerged in salt water last weekend and now its not working at all. thinking of getting x100v or just wait for the newer x100 series on feb
More importantly than the camera review... the camera that you shot this video with is crisp and the editing/color grading is on point. I like the atmosphere that you created here. What camera you used to shoot this?
I just bought an F. It was expensive but not nearly as bad as the current version, the vi, which doesn't even include a charger. And of course the V was out of the question. I am really looking forward to hitting the streets with this camera. I like the manual controls -- they remind me of my Olympus OM-2. I like the compactness, and I love that it has a silent shutter. Can't wait to try it out. I don't think I'll be disappointed.
@@johnle5941 I bought it from MPB for $1119 excluding tax. It was listed as Like New with original packaging, manual, battery, charger, strap, etc. They had two others, the cheaper of the two about $984. KEH also had some in a range of conditions and prices.
Totally agree with metering on the x100f, i ended up using manual and fixed iso. I bought mine used for $400...3 years a go before the influencer euphoria.
This is something I’m really struggling with on mine. I’ve found that the spot metering and exposure lock works well but it is a bit tricky to do in some situations. How do you find fixed ISO and manual shutter to work for you? I think this specific issue could warrant a video all on its own 😂
I bought mine secondhand 4 years ago The feature that often gets overlooked is the ability of the flash with leaf shutter works brilliantly. I agree the automatic aperture exposure can be annoying at times. Still have no plans to sell it as there is nothing else that has all the features and looks out there Would not spend £1700 on the latest model as I don’t think the still images would be significantly better
Have to say I don't use flash that often, but recently have been seeing some really cool stuff created with flashguns and I'm tempted to jump right in!
amazing video Gabriel! Liked how you presented the camera and the overall style of the video. I also have the x100f and I love it. Perfect camera for my personal shootings, vacations etc. Greetings from Germany! 😀
Hi @GapBahnDirk, how did that happen? Is it becos of where you stay, humidity? Or used it in a rainy day? I would like to know more, I’m about to moved to Hong Kong and wanting to get myself a X100F and I’m worried of the humidity over there, seems like a lot of people who stay there do own a specific box for storing photography gears wondering if that’s a must. everyone who owned x100F or upward, would you risk using it at rainy day? (Not actually under the rain if you know what I mean, like hide it inside your jacket etc)
@@PAPErCUTii I live in Bangkok, but the camera was never exposed to rain. It was stored in a bedroom where the aircon is on at night, but it gets quite hot a humid during the day. I think that the mould was a result of the humidity. now I keep the camera in a plastic box with some desiccant and all is well so far.
Interestingly I bought one X100 in 2023 for my first camera at around 150 GBP considering exchange rate with Chinese Renminbi. Later that year I switched to film photograpy and found out that the OG X100 can be treated as one highly digitalized film rangefinder with CMOS since I'm using it the old way: center focus on OVF only and running on fixed ISO setting. Despite its notoriously bad auto focus plus little manual focus assist I still think this is a real bargain considering this camera is very helpful for a beginnner to get the essence of photograpy.
Great overview, many good points. I honestly don't believe that the V has enough benefits when compared to the F, and therefore in my opinion the F has more than enough to offer.
@@gabrielbailey802Alright, thanks! Have you tried tweaking the settings for the classic chrome simulation to look even more like how you would usually edit your photos?
