- Mobile Suit Gundam's most important story is easily The One Year War. There's been over a dozen stories about it across anime, video games, and more. We're going to start to look at the conflict as a whole, breaking it down into sections to explain what exactly went on, who the most important figures were, and how the entire conflict between Zeon and the Federation played out.

Any ideas on when we can expect your thoughts on Gundam Unicorn? Excited for it my man.
I'm 100% sure that if there are space colonies that existed IRL, the prejudice would be the other way around. The people living in space would be the one to look down to people stuck on earth 🤣
There actually is some of that in Gundam. That'll come up when we talk more about Zeon and Gihren Zabi!
That is the case in the FC timeline, where all the elites went to space and took all the resources with them, leaving earth as an almost desolate wasteland
Witch of Mercury has the mega corps living in space with them using earth as their personal testing grounds for their new weapons.
That’s basically how it is in Witch From Mercury.
Isnt that G gundam plot? They even used earth as MMA ring
15:23 Small correction; Sydney is not the Australian capital city. Canberra is the Australian capital city. Sydney is the state capital city of New South Wales.
This compilation of U.C. lore is masterful. Well done BigMicahC
I’m pretty sure everyone in Australia survived. It’s Australia in all fairness. An Aussie would just shrug it and walk off like a champ in a kangaroo boxing match.
I’m going to listen to this so many times at work. Thank you dude!
I'm digging the music from Gihren's Greed. This reminds me of Tex Talks Battletech but for Gundam. Love it.
Always loved the one year war during the UC. Probably the most interesting series of events in all of Gundam, and we’ve seen less than half the events on-screen.
While giant robots are great, it is the lore and the grace with which the conflicts are generally rendered that inspires people to keep coming back to the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise again and again...well, that is, until The Witch from Mercury.
For fans of that series, Shipping is sufficient. Everything else is a detriment.

The only well done thing in WfM is the design of some of the machines. Gundam Aerial at least looks amazing.
Hey, In the future Chuchu will become an earthian rebel and murder her former classmates. 😂😂😂
The only decent thing we got from that show was the prologue...
I wasn't hyped but at least that made thr series look promising, but, well you all know how it went
i love universal century more than any other timeline. fantastic job. instant sub
Oh God, iv been on warhammer and stellaris lore for so long I never even considered including gundam lore into my sleep listening 😊
Just discovering your videos and I love what you're doing here. As a long time. Gundam fan this is pretty amazing to see
Thanks for sharing, now I can't wait to watch all the series...
Well made and enjoyable video, good job!
This is amazing. Thank you for the video.
The reason why mobile suits were used by Zeon is because they were, at first, a waste. They were originally intended to be mere construction units like the RB-79 Ball before being used for military applications. When Zeon revealed their combat mobile suits, the federation saw it as a joke and made fun of it like "it can babysit without squishing a baby" "it can solve a Rubics cube even with its giant fingers" and other sarcastic insults you can think of. And it was intentional, Zeon needed to be seen by the Federation and perceived as an incompetent wannabe military force full of idiots to camouflage their strengthening military.
My only gripe is the fact that they use legs. IN SPACE. The zaku would have been just as good with its legs replaced by rocket boosters and loads of RCS thrusters. I mean look at the S Gundam Booster Unit Type and the Deep Striker from Gundam Sentinel. They are mobile suits with rocket boosters for legs. And they were created 8 years after the one year war
It's just not as cool.
The legs were because they knew the MS would be useful in intra colony fighting and on earth
I always interpreted the legs being for in-colony work. Like these things are basically one man gunboats or even corvettes with their size and firepower, and with legs they can be deployed inside of colonies to terrorize the population into submission
The legs are for AMBAC, active mass balance auto control, AMBAC allows for the mobile suit to shift its mass in space allowing for zero thrust maneuverability which not only allows for the mobile suit to use less fuel it also allows for more erratic maneuvers.
So hover legs in the armored core games?
Best Gundam lore video I’ve seen .
I had only ever watched gundam wing and such. I just started watching the original gundam. So this is super interesting and explains the back story for me
Eventhough I am a really big fan of Gundam The Origin but fail to keep up with the lore haha. Thank you for compiling the story! Liked!
Great vid!
I’m itching for part 2 my dude!!!! When’s it landing?????
I always felt sorry for Dozle. All the man wanted was to protect his family and his siblings took advantage of his love to manipulate him into thinking horrific acts were needed to win the war. The poor dude has a panic attack after Operation British because he recognizes the human cost and how evil his siblings really are.
Garma and him was the one who should lead Zeon.
Such a great watch. Thanks for the detailed summary!
one of the Greatests anime ever written
I've wanted a General Gundam UC and other Timelines and Verses History Overview for YEARS
Gotta love that in real life a 18 meter mech would be such an easy target that it would emidiatly put the favor back into the federations side😂
This is why, WE DIG GIANT ROBOTS.
and if its less than 10 meters tall its not a real giant robot! Giant robots have to be Giant! the average Armored Core size (10 to 12 meters) is around the minimum.
CHICKS DIG GIANT ROBOTS
19:51 that got aggressive fast. I was going to start with modern close range combat relative to the modern a10
Great video. Also at 24:49 where did you get the footage of the zaku in front of the White House ?
Chick that can pilot a mobile suit is always a plus.
Also, has there ever been a book adaptation of all this?
There is a Novelization written by the original director himself but it's quite different from the established canon by the original anime and similar side stories.
Once ZEON lost the OYW, ZEON became a bunch of splinter groups. ZEON could have had independence if Char didn’t kill the Zabi family but I don’t blame Char because I would have done the exact same thing.
Also the Zabis are a bunch of Assholes TBH, with a few exceptions in the Autocratic family most of them would have been really bad at ruling it anyways, it wasn't like the Zabis were just revolutionaries they were really far from it.
Zeon was formed in 0058, not 53, and the national guard was formed immediately after its formation (albeit, likely still as a Earth Federation precaution), not in response to the Bardo Policy which was in 0059 (at least, according to some timelines).
27:00 “Just 60mm guns” the 30mm gay on the avenger creates enough force to slow the warthog at full power. The Russians developed a (slightly) larger gun and put in in a jet, firing the gun cause massive damage to the aircraft. A 60mm gun on most ships ina med/high calibre weapon firing single shots from a loading system, something being 60mm and belt fed is utterly terrifying. Each round (without the propellant) would be comparable to the size of a thermos flats or large bottle of pop. When they developed they series i guess mart rounds were not a thing, but imagine a 60mm Vulcan that could to 70 rounds a second and each round could do it’s own thing!
sooo i have a question
wich Mobile Suit Gundam should i watch ? there seems to be a lot x)
What about the backstory of MS Gundam The Origin, the background of the War is illustrated there pretty well.
War of Zeon Independence. Begun, the One Year War (0079, January 3rd).
None of this would have happened if char hadn't been robbed of his birthright.
I wonder what role the assassinated Zabi would have played had he not got killed by Kycillia
The real hero of the One Year War was the idiot who forgot to turn off and lock the RX-78 2
28:47 what Game is that? That isn’t an episode.
I thought he was called the crimson lighting?
i have not watched all the series that compose the one year war yet, could someone please tell me where all this lore comes from? I've watched the original anime, the 8th ms anime, war in the pocket, ms igloo 1 & 2. and origin.what am i missing? i dont remember any regretful or traumatized zeon soldiers.
Have you heard of the thunderbolt series? Check it out
@@drumline1321 I freaking love thunderbolt. Here's my question, I know it is in the one year war, but is it the main UC timeline? Or an AU ? I'm still confused.
Thunderbolt is in an alternative UC, it's not part of the orginal UC or the Origin version of the UC.
So… why didn’t they just attack the earth? If their problem was with the earth, then why attack the space colonies?
Well, outside of wanting to use those colonies to drop onto Earth, their problem was with the Federation, not the Earth itself. There's a high probability that the ones they picked were specifically allies with the Federation. This can be assumed since Ensign Shiro Amada was fighting for one of these three colonies.
2:52
Talk about War Crimes and Genocide!
👏🎉🎯💯👍❗ Also for the algorithm.
No Code Fairy....
It's pretty self contained anyway
19:35 😂😂
Wait I dont remember Zeon militarizing side 3, I thought it was the Zabi’s after they took control over ???
By the time the Zabis rolled around Side 3 already had its own military
CHO!
They should make a series where Zeon wins
True would be interesting. Another alternative universe.
ZEON WERE THE GOOD GUYS
19:35 PREACH BROTHER PREACH, im so sick of people telling me mechs will never work in real life tanks are way better
The only reason why mechs work in gundam is because it’s a sci-fi universe with sci-fi technology. And also, you could just fit all that technology into tanks and fighter jets and they would immediately be better than mechs lol. The only way mechs can for-sure be practical is in a non-combat or logistical support roles.
@@smileyface6583 mate can u just like not
@@2Lupus1 I will, in fact, will.
@@smileyface6583 well your an asshole then
@@2Lupus1 At least I’m an asshole who’s right and not wrong(like you) lol
SIEG ZEON!!!
Mobile suits WOULD be a waste in real life. Because in real life, ships would shoot at each other from so far out of visual range its not even funny. Minovsky particles aren't real, and without them the whole concept falls apart, at least in space combat.
Now, if you could make a mech that performs that well in terrestrial environments it'd definitely be better than tanks, but it's very likely that a more practical design would be less humanoid in shape.
So if we just invent or discover Minovsky particles, we can have practical Gundams?
So you're saying there's a chance?
Not only that but inventing mobile suits doesn't automatically make tanks and the like obsolete. In real life a mobile suit would be considered a form of shock infantry.
AND even if we had all that sci-fi stuff, the power plants, the energy shields and weapons, why not just fit them on tanks to make them even more practical than mechs?
@@smileyface6583*Heavy Object would like to know your location*
@@smileyface6583to be fair, tanks won't stay the same way we know them now and will rapidly evolve as well. Maybe in the end something that can incorporate all that high tech will be an unholy, but highly optimised mixture of both mechs and tanks.
Sweet vid. I just like building them. Following the lore has been a chore. But this video helped. Subbed
Zeon did nothing wrong, change my mind.
Hamgurber
Say that in front of my giant robot, traitor
Operation British
Didn't Zeon use poisonous gas on a colony and use crippled veterans as test subjects?
@@kingnothing5678 it's what was deemed necessary. 🤷♂️
