I have a '63 Musicmaster. The original owner played it from 1963-2000 (his death). His son sold it to me for $100. As a bass player, I don't do it justice, but I have several friends who can. Thanks for the video!

Just picked up a 60-61 Duo Sonic. All original but needs a refinish. Sounds ace and has mojo galore.

Unless the original(?) finish is less than 50% I wouldn't refinish it (and others may disagree with that). The original finish adds to the value. I have a '63 Musicmaster that the previous owner tried to refinish in black. He said it was a "crappy red" original color which leads me to believe it was Fender's Red Mahogany color of the era. I am restoring it to the original color.

@@michaelquillen2679 unfortunately it's completely stripped to wood already (I think it was red burst). I'm gonna either go with a new nitro desert sand or butterscotch just because it's unusual.

@@civilwaruk6791 in mid-1961, Fender announced that Musicmasters and Duo-Sonics would be finished in sunburst only. The sunburst on the 3/4 guitars was different in that it was yellow in the middle and transitioned to red, then maroon with no black on the outer edge. However, during this pre-CBS time, it was not unheard of to spray a few of these 3/4 guitars with leftover custom paint (whatever was left in the gun) toward the end of a workday (usually over a poor burst finish). These were done in an effort to appeal to female beginners on guitar. Though I've never seen one, I have heard that there were even Shell Pink (Fender's rarest color) 3/4 guitars. So any of Fender's custom colors of the day would keep it close to authentic. Just my thoughts.

Can anyone tell me the thickness of these early '55-'63 models? I believe the later off set Mustang bodied ones are 1 1/2" but are these early ones the same or thinner? Thanks in advance
