The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Imagine being told "you're following the Beatles, go give it your best card trick ever."

This was the act that immediately followed the Beatles' first set on that historic 2/9/64 Ed Sullivan show. Fun fact: if Mr. Kaps seems unfazed at the idea of having to follow the Beatles, it's because his act was pre-recorded (this is not "secret insider information," it was mentioned in voiceover during the closing credits of the show). Reason for the pre-recording: the next act was the cast of Oliver, and they needed extra time to put up the elaborate set.

I probably didn’t see this after watching the Beatles because I was too busy begging my mom for an electric guitar.

I just read an article in Rolling Stone and the author was saying how the act following the Beatles was so bad he was saying “I should have rehearsed this..”. The author didn’t get the act, so it was a little better than horrible.

The same show date the Beatles appeared on, along with Charlie Brill & Mitzi McCall and the cast of Broadway's "Oliver!" which featured the then-young Davy Jones

Could someone upload the video of opera singer Jean Madeira from this show? I believe she was on February 19, 1956, season 9, episode 22. That may not be accurate, but that's what I found online.

I guess Fred didn't consider how a color changing card trick would look on black and white tv.
