If we talk overall, THE BEST ONE that ever did it. There were better ppl with cards, better with coins, stage illusions, but best overall, the ones that dabbled in all kinds of magic, Fred Kaps is number one. And by far.

In 1951, as a twelve year old aspiring magician, my Mom and Dad took me to a swanky Dinner/Night Club to see Fred. After his set the hostess took me to Fred's dressing room. Mom and Dad knew the owner and arranged the meet up. Fred was very gracious and encouraging. Years later I met him again at a magic convention. He actually remembered me because of the skill I had already developed as a twelve year old.
No this is terrible. The music, the dress ... just painful. The first effect was just a spring cane. He ditches it in his pocket while getting the salt shaker. He ditches the salt shaker in his coat tails. And the card stuff. All front and back palm, split fan production etc. It's old fashioned and terrible. And the cigarette stuff, again terrible. Not setting a good example with the cancer risk.
I like the vanishing cane in the newspaper. I know how it's done. But still I say Fred Kaps is a very entertaining magician. Fred doesn't just come on stage and talk for two hours, (so to speak) Fred has a routine .
patrick page knew well the small ideasfred kapps had behind his act. I recall my father telling me a lot on fred and pat page. along with ken brooke, those guys were something!! what an amount of knowledge...
Pat Page was banned from the Magic Circle for writing a book which exposed too much magic for too small a price. That's how it works. It's all about money.
