You can argue who’s the greatest (Federer,Nadal, or Djok), but Fed has by far the most graceful and aesthetically pleasing style.

Yeah, in the end, based on records, Djoker will probably be best, but there's no denying, the vast majority of people will enjoy watching Federer's game a lot more than the other two. And Nadal's dominance on clay is just ridiculous. They're an amazing trio.

Federe's stroke is so smooth, the entire motion until he hits the ball is effortless, even when he hits the ball is so quiet, don't know how to explain it.

    • @jaizjeeson2180
      @jaizjeeson2180 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think I may have figured it out in a sense. It's not so much his fluidity or his unique motion in the forehand or backhand, it comes down to his impeccable footwork and timing. He always hits the ball RIGHT when it reaches its peak. You gotta have some real talent to make shots like that consistently, as he does.

Play the video in super slow mo. What you will find is that he creates a monster amount of racket lag with that brick Wilson of his. Super flexible hand joint. It happens in miliseconds and once the racket comes shooting back through the ball it reaches warp speed. I have not seen any other player do that so magnificently and effectively.

Because he’s relaxed , has good technique, and puts power when it’s close to the ball like a punch. You wouldn’t tense ur fist the whole time , u relax until near impact.

Great workout! Roger use to do the 1-against-2 hitting drill a lot! Many college players, lesser pros, and tour competitors have hit with Roger over the years, and were ecstatic when asked by his team, especially the bottom 100 guys who knew him much less than the top guys!
He's been retired almost a year now- 11 months basically! It'll take a couple of more years to adjust to his retirement and absence! Still missed a lot!

    • @TennisProTV

I try slowing down many such vids (watching at 0.25x speed) but even still, there are so many subtleties to the strokes that I cannot yet grasp. The exact timing between all the different body parts is hard to catch even at slow speed. The kinetic chain, and so on.

Playing against the greatness of Roger's perfection in all areas from serve to forehand, backhand, his variation, volleys - in my opinion - helped craft Nadal and Djokovic into the unstoppable talents they are.
If you "grew up" having to win / lose grand slams going through Federer there will be very few people who will be able to test you more than he will - and did.
Nadal would have been happy being the greatest clay court player of all time if there wasn't another guy out there being the greatest player of all time. He changed and improved his game to win on grass and hard courts which makes him the amazing player he is.
Djokovic was always good on all surfaces but he brought a new level of strength and flexibility that was NECESSARY for him to ever begin winning grand slams requiring him to beat both Nadal and Fed.
They are the triffecta of tennis greatest.

I was actually really digging the forehand of the guy in black, like at 2:58. Any idea what kind of grip he might be using to get that stroke?

Federer said he had hand problems in the summer of 2018, which he said “destabilized his forehand” for a long time afterwards. I wonder if his uncharacteristically wild forehands in this video are due to that.

While the RF97 was great for his backhand, it doesn't swing through the air as fast as his 90. so he lost some racquet head speed on the forehand. I would have loved to see how he would have done with the RF01 pro in 2022, as it's a much faster pure aggression frame.

Federer's gift is to make the artistic effective (or the effective artistic, depending on your point of view). There are only a handful of athletes in all of sport who can resolve both of these equations. For most they are mutually exclusive, at least most of the time. I've heard many arguments for the existence of God, but somehow it's Federer's movement - its sublimity, its poise, its ease, its sheer impossibility - that gets me doubting my atheism. "Divine" seems too heavy-handed, but mechanical descriptions of his movement don't come close to encapsulating his gift.
