Nobody can appreciate how hard it is to take Rafa's forehand and catch it on the rise with a one handed backhand like Fed did time after time for winners. Amazing!
AO videos are always the gold standard. Something about the court, the energy of the crowd, the matchups...Fed was in god mode on his backhand this day, and his serving was tactically brilliant.
I recommend people go and watch the semi final between Federer and Wawrinka. Roger’s backhand was so vulnerable in that game, the contrast with how lethal his backhand was in this game is remarkable. I remember being worried that Nadal would take him to the cleaners but Federer seriously raised his game for the final.
There’s a reason. Nadal was too predictable attacking that side BUT his ball was more loopy than pace, and often not deep, so Federer chose to hit it early (on the rise), creating pace and angles, that’s why he had so many winners on that side. Wawrinka’s, or Djokovic’s crosscourt backhand has more pace, Federer wouldn’t have time to execute his backhand perfectly so he slices back more.
@@tehatte that makes no sense because Federer literally beat wawrinka in the exact same tournament in the match before this, so no neither wawrinka or Djokovic would stand a chance against this version of Rogers backhand... Djokovic was actually spared because Roger hurt his back like weeks before the us open...I actually thought he should've rested that one but Federer wanted us to see him back in action at a tournament he won 5 times in a row❤️
@@SameerKhan-nf3no Federer doesn’t beat others with just his backhand. His number one weapon is serve and volley. He and Wawrinka were pretty even but he served better. A few easy points in a close match make the difference. What happened if Djokovic played in AO 2017? You need to remember this. Djokovic has played Federer 5 times at AO and won 4. Now question for you: when was the last time and only time Djokovic lost to Federer at AO and why he lost?
@@tehatte you mean after they made those courts as slow as the us open? Strange that the courts ball speed was faster at the ao the one year Novak doesn't play...in any case Novak deserves those wins regardless, but if he faced Roger on that court in 17..it would be intense
to me, there are 2 matchs between Federer and Nadal that surpass all of the others. for the drama, the comeback, the meaning and the legacy. Wimbledon 2008 and Australian Open 2017. Federer - Nadal forever.
It's about the sport and being able to watch and follow it properly. That doesn't require 4K with 60 fps. Only people that are mainly focussed on (justifying) their hardware over actually enjoying what they're watching do.
A heartbreaking match as a Rafa fan but I was also happy for Fed and his fans that he broke his 4.5 year GS drought and exorcised some of his GS demons against Rafa. And it was damn cool seeing these old warhorses, ranked 9 and 17 in the world at the time from injuries and time away from competition, improbably meeting after so many years in a career-sunset GS final.
Difference is, Novak is a bit mentally stronger than Nadal, and is also pretty good on grass, Federer didn't learn much, from his semi finals, he hit a rushed approach shot against Nadal, on one mp, and got passed, Novak is going to make that pass, even on a bad day! He choked, and hit a terrible sliced forehand too, that drifted wide.
Every tennis channels are trying to milk Federers popularity. He has made tennis popular. After his retirement viewership might have gone down .Federer's movement in court is the best thing in tennis. What a treat for the eyes.
@steftsakiris Yes it is. 2008 Wimby ended in near darkness. Both parties complained. If you have such situation, how can it be the greatest match. Wimbledon 2009 or 2019 would be better candidates. AO 2012 was too long. Not much variety, as both played baseline tennis.
Such a joy to see these two excellent players play. No childish behaviours or gestures after winning a point. Straight up simplicity showcasing pure professionalism.
FedEx usually runs almost parallel to baseline and adjusts his backhand accordingly, whichever ball is put, whether it's forward and backward the baseline 😊
I really struggle to understand how anyone that has followed the sport of tennis for 30 plus years could consider Djokovic to be the greatest to have played. I can't even make it though one of his matches without succumbing to boredom. I get that his numbers are great but he just lacks that X factor and magic that makes so many love sportsman like Federer or Jordan. I can remember in the mid 2000's I would jump at the chance to watch Federer play anyone regardless of ranking just to witness his latest magic trick (same with Jordan in the late 80's /early 90's). I can't imagine David Foster Wallace ever wanting to write about Djokovic.
Magical tricks that forsakes you when you need them the most (against Novak) is not magical at all. The fans of elegance and style( fedal fans) would want us to forget about achievements. Roger is a good player but if he becomes GOAT via stylistic claims, we would be speaking of Modelling. Roger would like to be called a tennis player and not a model.
So your opinion is highly subjective based on your childhood. Not stats or facts. So how is Federer the GOAT based on your personal opinion? All you said was Fed has an x factor and you loved watching him when you were a kid. So if another person idolises... for example David Ferrer, is he the GOAT? Not saying I don't think Federer fits in the GOAT debate category. I still think Federer, Nadal and Djokovic is the GOAT, but Djokovic clearly has more outstanding results than Federer. Even more so now with the Olympic gold medal achievement.
Federer’s Weakness was his one handed backhand. He was able to improve his record against Nadal during last matches as he improved his backhand but it was still weaker than any double handed backhand. What makes Djokovic the GOAT is no definitive Weakness in his play. But when it comes to Sheer Talent no one comes close to federer.
@@impopquiz I doubt he would have said "better player;" "more talented" seems more likely. Being a player means you are playing, which involves talent, drive, fitness, everything. I don't think any serious person can take "best player" away from Novak, even though his style of play is less watchable and inspiring. For all that, I still have Federer as my GOAT--isn't that weird, that "best" and "greatest" can mean such different things to me? LOL
Wimbledon 2018- he also missed, or did a weak approach like Federer when he had Novak at bp, to serve for the match- some things are just predestined not to happen!
Roger Federer's Forehand became weak link after 2006. Roger Federer was unable to generate extra pace to win Forehand winner Nadal exposed Roger Federer's Forehand in Hard court & subsequently on Grass court from 2006 onwards.
