  • Roger Federer has had a decent year in 2018. He started off well winning a grand slam and becoming the oldest No. 1 in the world and then his performance dropped in the last 6 months of the year. Throughout the year, many tennis fans have been watching him along the way and the majority of the time, the screen is in aerial view. However, occasionally court level view is shown. Here is the ultimate compilation of Roger Federer's best court level points in 2018.

      @SeppuKun not that many casual viewers left. That's cause matches got too long and boring rallys. Back in the day tennis was played more attacking and interesting. It was intriguing to see say a serve and volley guy like McEnroe go against a more of a baseliner like Borg ( who actually adapted attacking) or a Conners who played from the baseline and attack the net on every chance. Today it's usually 15-25 strokes till somebody gets jockeyed outta of position.

  • @srinitaaigaura

    This camera angle is far better than the overhead. You realize here that no two balls are ever the same and the trajectories are wildly different every single time. It's why no two shots are also the same despite seemingly similar strokes. You can see how spin and wind cause the ball to curve and change direction on the bounce, or just how close to the net some of those shots can get. You can also see how fast the court is playing.
    I sometimes have no clue how they manage to place the ball on the lines. It looks too far away. They must really be going for broke.
    Also, what I see is that the tall players have a lot of power and bounce on their serves. It is really not easy to return them. Federer's wrist injury - you can see the effect here. In the later part of the season, there's noticeably less meat on the serve. The bounce and spin is not as high. Whereas he was hitting it so well in the beginning.

    • @Abobagunwa
      @Abobagunwa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Couldn’t agree with you more about the effect of the wrist injury on his game on the later part of the season. Roger as usual would never mention it but I do think his game picked up once his wrist got better. His match against Novak and Zverev at the atp finals were dangerously close. He could’ve won. Again i suspect the injury is also why his 1st serve took a dive with all those double faults and he has had to compromise and rely heavily on his 2nd serve.

      Federer was still the goat federer had the hardest era, he had to face prime nadal and prime dkovic when fed was 30+ while nadal was great but only in clay, federer dominated him 3 out o4 grand slam ao us open including the biggest prestigious tournament of them all the wimbledon
      While djokovic had weak era where his toughest opponents was against injury prone nadal and old out of prime grandpa federer who was 36+ thats why he had an easy grand slam achievement when the goat player federer got older and great nadal became injury prone
      federer even dominated djokovic in their prime, before fed hits the age of 30 their h2h was 13-6 in favor of federer, djokovic used to be the punching bag of federer, federer just got older and thats the only time djokovic really started winning, even a grandpa federer in wimbledon 2019 finals almost beat djokovic, almost 40 years old grandpa federer was 1 championship point away on winning the wimbledon 2019 finals, thats all i need to know how goat fed was

While Djokovic era he faces top 10 players and top 5 all the time the balls are much heavier their grandslam win percentage is much higher and they are in the prime. For example 2011 he faced prime Nadal and Federer. 2021 Medvedev Zverev many more. 2022 Rublev Tsitsipas etc. 2015 Murray Federer Wawrinka Cilic Simon.

      I think the video is accelerated at this moment. If you watch from 4:16 to 4:20, I think you'll find that the movement are unnatural. For example, he looks like he's about to throw the ball very high by swinging his arm very fast, but the ball doesn't go high at all. And thing is you can make movements look faster by speeding up a video, but you can't make the ball go higher than it did in the original video, so it's good to look at this to spot if a video is fake or not. And in my opinion this one is fake (accelerated I mean).

It’s actually a discovered phenomenon, that when people don’t see greatness with the best common presentation (sky view, ESPN/NBC/BBC prime time coverage with top advertisement), shockingly many without particularly developed appreciation for that discipline will be blind to the greatness and just perceive something just better than avg... Proof-world class top musicians, athletes doing undercover street performances, may catch attention but almost never get the most powerfully magnetic attention of hundreds of fans just completely crowing them for just a glimpse of the famous greatness until they reveal the truth as most widely recognizable.

    For his age, Federer still has very good range of motion in his legs and wide base, especially his hips, which I believe contributes greatly to his continued success. More importantly, as we look through these highlights, those with a good eye can see where the balance of many players are which can greatly influence their movement, especially the explosiveness. Aside from certain tall players, even a player like RBA, you can see what limits his movement. He's still a good mover, but look carefully enough and one might notice that his base can be better, as well as his center. Overall, just noticing from this angle the things that can be better. They're good, but they can be better.

    At most of the big tournaments the camera is much too high and consequently, too far away. The US Open is the greatest offender. Years ago it eliminated the camera in the first level of seats right amongst the fans. Court level shorts are shown rarely. Since everything is done for more $$, I wonder what is going on in the minds of the people who have decided that the camera should be higher and higher.

      it easier to show advertisements when angle is so big. the walls surrounding the court are plastered in brand names, and keeping them in the shot at all times increases the revenue.

    Did anyone else see Nishikori around 10:05 say "If I can't beat him, I'll join him." by attempting that one-handed backhand pass under duress?!

    Novak may end up with more slams but nobody will ever match the character, the class, and sheer beauty of Roger Federer's game.
