One minor correction doesn't invalidate the rest of the **_logic_** in the video] Limited got the XREAS... same exact idea... sorry too many 4runner trims to keep straight 😆... Not $5k. It was a $1,750 option.
      Still pretty steep, but then again it does transform the on and off-road handling noticeably.
      I can't find info on if the Limited could be optioned with KDSS, but if so, that would make the running gear essentially the same as the GX460.

    Totally agree with your comments. I bought a new, off road premium 4runner in January. I'm very happy with it, it gets me to my destination without problems. I've had many cars, from a British, 1950s Standard 8, which was so quiet, I kept trying to start it, every time I stopped, it was still running. I've owned lots of different vehicles, a VW Polo, 3 cylinder, to a Porsche 911 turbo. I've commented on other videos, when Americans debate, at great length, "ah, but what does the truck get to the gallon"? My question is always, what does it matter, 99% of Americans are driving at 80/90 mph, on 55mph speed limit roads. I've been driving, accident free, since 1959, I normally drive 5 mph over the posted speed limit, I've always arrived at my chosen destination. I'm currently getting 20.7 miles per gallon, in my (new), old 4runner. I'm happy, without all those things that most seem to crave. What is the benefit, to using all this technology, when they're going so fast, they have less time to use it? 😁

    KDSS SHOULD have been available on the Limited. XREAS never gave it that flat handling it needed. Unfortunately it was only available on the TRD Offroad Premium with its part time 4WD. I always felt the Limited with its FULL time AWD was far superior unless rock crawling which 99% never does with their 4runner. I am disappointed to see KDSS or equivalent gone in Gen6. I hope this time the aftermarket industry makes a thicker Swaybar available, which it didnt do for Gen5.

    I was going to wait till the end of the year to buy the 2025, but I fell in love with the 2024.
    Its not that I hate the new design, but there are some deficiencies.
    - clearly less backseat room.
    - seats don't fold flat
    -4 cylinder is simply untested in this role. Lacks power without complex assists from turbo and hybrid motors.
    -expecting serious mark ups for first year.
    - last chance to get this generation new.

    Toyota had it right when they put the V8 in the 4runner. It had plenty of power, and weighed A THOUSAND POUNDS LESS than this new 4cyl hybrid. As far as complexity - it all depends on how long you plan to keep the vehicle. Eventually it will all need to be replaced, but that could be 200-300k miles. If you don't plan on keeping the vehicle that long, it's a non-issue. Personally, the weight is a much bigger issue for me. The 4runner used to be a small, lightweight, off-roader that was SIMPLE.

    I'm in the market for a used 2021 or 2022 GX460 but entertained the possibility of a top trim 4Runner but after seeing all these cons including the turbo-charged small engine I'll stick with a naturally aspirated 4.6 V8 in the GX460 (along with the KDSS).

    If you watch Tacomabeast latest video, they talk about the turbos being maxed out or overloaded with 35" tires.
    In addition the transmission oil temperature being above a normal range. I do not know what temperature numbers.
    As we know overlanders / offroaders want to have larger tires for better clearance.
    The turbos reliability and longevity might be an issue with larger tires.
    Another concern is the waterproofing of the hybrids components. Again, overlanders / offroaders doing water crossings might be a concern. Any water intrusion might be very costly.

    I can’t wait! I’m getting one. I’ve research this particular powertrain and it is extremely stiff and over engineered. Toyota is doing turbo charging like no other manufacturer in the world. They’re using the best turbo chargers that are made from a company called IHI, which is a very prestigious Japanese company. They have the heat management under control which we all know is the precursor to failure, semi diesel engines can go 1,000,000 miles on one turbo charger with no problems because the EGT are kept in a manageable level. No one ever says anything about that. 95% of the people that are commenting negative responses about turbochargers is because they really don’t know how turbocharging is worked or how you could manage the EGT and get extended life Toyota engineers are the best in the world because they have solved all the problems that come with turbo charging.

    Lexus/Toyota has too many midsize SUVs. The Lexus GX, Toyota Land Cruiser and this 4Runner are too close in features and price. The 4Runner needed to be the affordable version and this is going to be a minimum of $50K out the door and many in the $70K range.

    1. Design is outstanding. The car looks unreal good, so that’s it for that one. 2. Powertrain: I would assume that Toyota has done their homework and made a reliable powertrain, but the inherent nature of FI and hybrid set ups means they’re far more complex, thus more difficult to maintain. 3. Suspension: Looks like they’re reserving e-KDSS for their top tier off roaders?
    Either ways, our “old” V8s and those with the V6 will become more desirable mainly due to its simpler nature!

    "The old American way, I want something, but I don't want to pay of it... You want it all, but you don't want to pay for it all. I want it to be cheap... And of course that doesn't exist in reality." Which is how we end with either of two things: (1) Take it all by force or (2) Make it look the part: Giant fenders, giant tires, giant this, giant that... American Football styling, which is worth millions, and which makes everyone happy. This 4Runner styling, worth millions, makes us happy. The bright side, or the sweet spot, is that since it is a Toyota, the fairy tales, the fantasies, and the imaginations persist. Which altogether make for an amusing American attitude - We can get it all and not pay for it!

    In my opinion, I don’t think it’s worth it because of the future expenses of number one the turbo number two the battery packs and number three the electric motor… Even if the vehicle lasted 10 years without these three major future problems, can you imagine what turbo and electric motors and battery packs are going to cost in 10 years? It’s gonna be double what it is now and those turbo are about $5000 apiece. That electric motor is at least $7500 and the battery packs are at least 10,000 so double these prices in 10 years and my opinion it’s not worth it. I’m going to stick with the 21 Lexus LX 570 and the 23 Lexus GX 460 and the reason is is because they are bulletproof V8engines… without the worry of electric motors without the wary of battery packs without the worry of turbo sure they may not get the best gas mileage but in the long run, I am saving tens of thousands of dollars and I will say this these are both million mile engines taken care of… Also, I will tell anybody out there if you do have a VA engine change the oil every 2000 to 3000 miles… don’t wait till you hit 5000 or 7500 or 10,000 miles not if you wanted it to last 1,000,000 miles… and with that… This is a phenomenal channel. Thank you for all the research and analysis that you bring. I hope we get to meet someday and share our vehicles, knowledge and adventures.🇯🇵🤍❤️🇺🇸🇮🇹💙💚

I'm hoping once the driving impressions come out, that we're pleasantly surprised. Climbing Elevation in the 5th gen was brutal - I'm looking forward to the increased torque more than anything. I didn't understand people strapping RTTs, steel bumpers and winches on the 5th gen as a daily driver. Without a $10k super charger, zero to sixty is just a memory... I'm wondering with the hybrid powertrain if it is a good idea to keep cycling the turbo motor on and off especially when the turbo is hot? There water pump is mechanical on the Tacoma and it even says in the owners manual that under high load conditions you should let the engine idle for a minute before shutting down.

    • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

      The 24 Tacoma NOT having a 2nd electric water pump for the turbos seems to NOT be verified. the T24 engine was designed with a secondary water pump for the turbo circuit... there's just internet anecdotes on forums about how it doesn't have a 2nd pump... but I haven't seen anyone actually verify this... it is difficult to think that toyota would delete this circuit for the Tacomas... The engine on the Tacoma does not cycle on and off like a HSD. The electric motor is clutched on and off as needed.

    The one major gripe I have with the 4Runner and the Land Cruiser are the rear fender flares. Although aesthetically pleasing, when you open the rear doors, the fenders come off with the door, resulting in dirt, mud, etc that’s exposed on the other side of the car. It’s exposed to the passengers getting into the second row, thus getting their clothes dirty. This is bad design. Especially if you’re an off-roader and have a family, your kids clothes will brush this area 😅
    Now maybe it won’t be an issue but carwow did a review of the Land Cruiser and he’s the one who brought this to my attention. 😅
    It’s going to be a nuisance everytime it rains to have to clean this area off constantly

    They actually could get more power out of the V6. The reason for turbo charging isn't necessarily for power it's for better emissions regulations and also to give the engine more torque which is needed for these heavy suvs.
    I didn't care about the 4Runner being "old" or gas mileage or hp.....problem is that many people are influenced by reviewers, which are not owners and are not people that live with the vehicle. They are people that sit in a car for a couple hours maybe a few days and make content for a channel then go babbling about about it.
    I traded a 2016 F80 M3 fully loaded with a sticker priced at $103K for a TRD Pro 4Runner.....and didn't miss anything in the M3. People need to prioritize what the eff they want. You want power, you got it, want reliability....you had it, want gas mileage get a Rivian....you can't have it all because the government is forcing emission control and idiots are voting for these people in congress.
    Back on subject, all you bitching about the old outdated 4Runner, shut up, here's your new more powerful updated version with a giant screen dash....you don't like it, too damn bad, stop acting like a small fickle spoiled child. You wanted it you got it.
    As for me, I'm actually trying to organize my finances to buy another 5th 4Runner before they become hard to find.Two is better than one.

Hybrid is great, don't have to install my own batteries for a solar setup, which will still cost a few thousand dollars. For every 1 that won't buy because of the battery, 10 will, which is why the vehicles people complain about ceasing to exist, are ceasing to exist. I dont care for kdss. To be honest i wished they didn't have it. The trd pro doesn't have in the 5th gen. It just adds more complexity and more service you really dont want.

    • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD
      @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      KDSS is literally increased offroad articulation... the TRD Pro is a marketing gimmick for Americans... All flagship Landcruisers and the Landcruiser Prado and GX460 and 4RUNNER Offroad had KDSS.... if you Offroad you WANT disconnecting swaybars... there's no complexity, the system is old and it has been proven to work without issue

  • @lav1daloca
    @lav1daloca 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You are putting too much credit on that old kdss system. I watched this one channel the other day he measured it he said the new GX500 without kdss had better articulation than the old GX with kdss by a lot! and the new 4Runner already has sway bars front and back so it will ride better than the old one with kdss and still have more articulation just because its based on the new architecture of the Land Cruiser 300.

    • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD
      @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      we're referring to KDSS on-road flatness here... Topher on YT drove a non-EKDSS GX550 and the first thing he said was it drives floppy with alot of body roll compared to the old GX460 with KDSS... without something like KDSS they have to "balance" the roll bars instead of making them ultra firm and disconnectable...

    You get worse suspension, more unreliable engine, barely better fuel economy, and a higher price tag. YAAAAAY! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Generally speaking turbo charged engines will never outlast NA engines unless it has beefed up internals. And we all know no manufacturers are not giving you forged internals in a regular production car. People only buy Toyotas for their reliability. No one buys Toyotas because they are exciting.

    • @chibbyylol
      @chibbyylol 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      The spec sheet of the t24a itself describes the forged and strengthened internals. It wouldn’t make sense at all for a 'reliable conscious' brand like Toyota NOT to use strengthened internals for forced induction engines
      Also the new platform and suspension design in TNGA-F platforms like say the GX gets better articulation then the previous KDSS equipped one

    • @JavierCR25
      @JavierCR25 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At least in turbo diesel set ups, Toyota engines last a long time except for 2 common issues you will encounter (as with any other TDI engine): 1. Fuel injectors and 2. The turbo itself.
      But yes, NA engines are simpler and more reliable therefore, but emissions are fuel economy regulations drive manufacturers towards these turbo engines, even though they consume just as much fuel 😫

      @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      KDSS is amazing, which is why it's on the flagship 300GRS and the GX550 OT. KDSS disconnects front and rear bars while allowing for a thick bar on road. The 4RUNNER SDM system only disconnects the front bar. It's a value KDSS system and a compromise of KDSS to appease the poors (Toyota's language, not mine)
