and how many animals live in the desert? infact how many people live in a desert. by definition is a waterless, desolate area of land with little or no vegetation, typically one covered with sand.
Waterless being the word they. now do people live somewhere that has no water? forgetting food. water is a basic need for any life to be suitable. whether it be animal, vegetable or even single-celled. life as we know it cannot exist without water. so if people are living in the desert then they are idiots.
if there is no vegetation to eat then there is no meat to eat either. since meat needs to eat veg anyway.

a vegan diet does not equate to "privilege". In many countries where poverty is a major issue, for example India, the people live mostly vegan or vegetarian due to poverty. You're also forgetting that some of the cheapest foods in the world are plant-based. This includes beans, rice, legumes, fruits, vegetables. No one said you have to buy the expensive meat alternatives. Those exist mainly for people who are transitioning to a plant-based diet / lifestyle for convenience.

When she was talking about Icelandic villages, seh was referring to very small villages where people live off substeinance foods which include animal products due to issues with accesibility. That has nothing to do with the rest of the country, where you can easily be vegan. Most people can go vegan actually, you don't need any weird fancy products to have a healthy vegan diet. And for those who can't, it's an issue of accessibility, so it really is not their fault that they can't go vegan.

The question here is, is being inconsistent with your morals a bad thing. Certain philosophers will say yes out of the fact that if you're inconsistent with your beliefs you don't really believe in your own beliefs.

My husband is from a Third World country and he says this all the time - it really bothers him actually having really suffered in poverty - he says that the problem with American veganism is that Americans most of them have never known actual poverty or hunger and so veganism has become an elite position only accessible to privileged Americans. If you live in a Third World country where all you have to eat is a chicken or you will die you aren’t going to be vegan. To be philosophical about your food is an incredibly privileged position to take and we should all acknowledge that privilege.

I love this! On the leather question though. I think that we should also look into the sustainability factor here beyond the ethical. Vegan leather, as great as it may sound, is pure plastic - and thus, non-biodegradable. Faux leather (or pleather) has been around for quite some time in the fashion industry as a cheap alternative. However, companies have started to label it as vegan leather to attract a targeted group of costumers. Due to the new label, these products have also gotten ridiculously expensive, which do not coincide with their value and quality. I think that if one refrains from buying leather first hand but still wants to wear it, they should look into second hand leather instead. This does not support the company at all and one can also manage to give a new life to a garment that's already been made and worn. On another note though, I've heard that some smaller companies are experimenting with mushroom leather, which is pretty cool and I would love to support that (as long as the company itself is ethical).

the reality is that veganism is actually a privilege. That's why it's seen mostly in North america and not as much other places where there is genuinely a lack of resources. Some people are lucky to just get any food at all! I doubt they're paying attention to where it comes from. I get to be vegetarian because I live in Canada! but he doesn't get that it's not always that simple
