    I don’t like how most people think the “good” students have the best lifes. Some kids are just better than others at keeping things to themselves or handling situations. For me, 6th grade is when my mental health went downward but I was always the top student at school. The only reason I kept my grades up was because actively listening to the teacher and focusing on work was a way to just avoid things I didn’t wanna think about. At home I played games and watched anime as another form of distraction, and because I couldn’t sleep at night (nighttime is when I had my most mental breakdowns) I listened to music. Everything I did was to distract me from the life I hated. And it always made me feel worse when no one noticed me crying with my head down every time I finished work early. I’m in 8th grade now and this is still my life, only now, the distraction aren’t working anymore. I feel nothing nowadays.

    • @karylleh9920

      Laylahbug my mental health spiraled down in 6th grade as well. Thats because my friend kept telling us how her father “beat her up” all over but had no scars at all. She then started telling lies that I was a horrible person and other much more graphic rumors and also about my bff at the time (bf now.) She also spread rumors about my toxic friends, which it was ironic, considering toxic telling on toxic and anyways. I was good in school because it was a tunnel vision from all of my distractions. I was quiet because I don’t express problems. It sucks you go through that. Yeah, life is bad. I’m here to talk if you want

      Omg that was literally me in 7th grade. I went through a patch of time when I had no friends, hated my life and so I just buried myself in school. Because I was such a good student, my guidance counselor never met with me (even though I asked her to). I would literally cry in every single class, sit alone, do everything alone, finish work early, etc. None of the teachers paid any attention to me. Tbh it really hurt especially since teachers took sides against me. They took sides because I had a very public friend breakup and one of those friends happened to be trans. Because of this, they sided with him (though they never said it I could tell) and I knew that they thought I was a transphobe. That was really hurtful since I’m lgbtq+ and completely support the trans community. I felt nothing for a very long time and still do sometimes. Now I just feel nothing at the most random times and yeah it sucks. But it does get better! Stay strong. (I’m an eighth grader too)

      Overall, educators need more training in identifying students who need mental health support. A lot of students who are quiet, keep to themselves, avoid getting in toruble, have good grades, etc fall through the cracks in terms of wellness/mental health/ emotional wellbeing because educators do not have that training or do not put it into practice. It's easier to catch the loud behaviors. The others require more work. Unfortunately, one one of the ways in which students who need support are identified is academic achievement. Students who are performing at grade level or are advanced in their studies are off educators radars because they are meeting expectations, data goals, etc. I believe this is unfortunate. However, you can take a stand for yourself. Reach out for support. Contact the county-I'm not sure where you live but you can contact mental health supports for yourself and talk it out with someone. At school reach out to a counselor and ask them for services, your information remains confidential. You are your strongest advocate. Do you need resources? If you tell me what city you live in, I can look up some for you. It's important that you speak to someone if you are feeling this way. People do care sometimes people get caught up in their daily tasks and they need to be reminded about what matters. It's great that you are an outstanding student, but it is important that you reach out for help.

People who constantly bully people just keep on making bad mistakes and it’s in their nature, by how they were brought up to what they chose to do, not them being bad as a person. Besides, morality is a subjective matter..

There is a lot of bad people in the prison, but are they all bad people in there? No, but some of them are. How would the world look if we were so forgiving. Death penalty wouldnt be a thing, prison would they even exist? Or would it be a health care center for those people? What makes a person "good" if all he ever done in life is hurting everyone else.

    I think "leniency" is the wrong word. All students deserve empathy, which means we need to be especially aware of the struggles of lower income students. A student who needs more time, should be able to get that. We need to be allowed to measure a student's growth rather than their proficiency, which is why standardization is not useful.

    • @ML-qh6dv
      @ML-qh6dv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      Depends on what you mean by "standardization". Every able student should be required to meet the same standards to move to the next level of our education system. It does a disservice by teaching kids from low SEC less simply because we hold them to lower expectations.
      What needs to change is not our standards but our system. We need more support in low SEC not lower standards. Lowering the standards only sets these kids up to fail.

    • @nilatix9022
      @nilatix9022 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Leniency is the correct word because that’s what it is. They’re behavior or lack of doing work is being dismissed more so it is the teacher being more lenient.

    • @aminamelancon5640
      @aminamelancon5640 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It’s a competitive world so proficiency matters. Monique was absolutely right about not providing leniency to AA students. I grew up in a mostly minority, low income, public school system. Most of us were so unprepared for the real world when we graduated. It did a lot of us a huge disservice. I was lucky enough to be transferred to a better high school though.

    • @TNDCBaby
      @TNDCBaby 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@nilatix9022 It's not a good word because it might not mean that they're not doing the work. It could mean that they do the work but due to say time constraints because they're working jobs and going to school that they can't get it done as quickly. Leniency can mean not taking deductions if you know they've got some personal situations that are handicapping them. it doesn't mean that you don't expect them to learn only that there is ahinderance to them keeping pace.

I would set the bar in an average to above average place, depending on the student but I would also acknowledge if certain things are occuring whch would hinder them fro hitting goals AND THEN work with them, the school, and any interested adults in their lives to try and overcome those barriers.

I was also annoyed when some of them said that they sometimes like the "bad students" better than the "good students" because I really try my best to give the teacher an easy time and I am alaways quite and being a "good students" and in the end if the day the teacher will like better the ones who are behaving badly? It's so frustrating... and the saddest thing is that I can actually see this happening in my school, and I hate it. You need to buckle down and make the choice to sacrifice more than the average person if higher education is truly something you want. My life will always be chaotic and I’ve had professors telling me to take a semester off, every single semester for two years. I was told I’m being naive thinking I can handle college by one of them. Every year someone dies and I relapse back into my ED/self harm. The only family I have left now is my aunt and grandpa, I’m 20 in college pursing my microbiology degree. Being a victim is a CHOICE, albeit an incredibly difficult one.

If you take a year or 2 off to work/explore life/gain maturity before studying again, you basically shot yourself in the foot financially.... if only higher education wasnt a commodity...

    It's also quite immature for a teacher to be insinuating she actively dislikes the people that actually respect her. Not only that, but this is obviously going to generate insecurities in teens, as shown in the comment section. Teachers should be helping teens through these issues, not worsening them.

I mean there are alot of students who say they dont like teachers so it's obviously normal to have teachers that don't like some students too. It doesn't mean they are bad as long as their dislike for the student doesn't make them fail those students in tests, exams or make them treat those students differently.

      @@victory4333 That's not what I mean. What I mean is that the student believed that they had a good relationship while it was the opposite. It's threatening in the sense that it is unexpected; people believe that when you treat someone well, they will like you. If not like them, not actively dislike them.
      This can make people very anxious and analyse every social interaction extensively. ESPECIALLY when it comes to teenagers who are already more prone to overanalysing social interactions and prone to mental illness.
      I'm not saying that disliking students is wrong. I'm saying she should've been more responsible than to say she dislikes the people who are fond of her. This can make people very insecure.
      It's also not the same thing for a student to dislike a teacher than a teacher to dislike a student. The teacher is an authority figure, that many people look up to. Teachers don't look up to students.

As a good kid, I really appreciated in seventh grade when my teacher would bring all the good kids in for lunch with her. The class was a hassle because of the amount of misbehaving kids, but she told us she knew we didn’t get much attention during class so she wanted us to feel like we were wanted and noticed. She didn’t need to do it, but she did and it really made my year. The small things really help and can shape a student.

    I’m a straight a student, I’ve never gotten below an a on a report card in my life, so the teachers know I can do good, so if I miss out on an assignment, they show no mercy. I cry myself to sleep every night, have an identity crisis at least once a day, am constantly scared and worried, and wants to die. But my teachers are never lenient with me because they know that I can take hard work, because I have good grades.

      It's not the teachers. It's way beyond them. Teachers are just the scapegoats for parents and admins but the real problem is the district if nothing is done. Teachers basically get in trouble for every decision they make so even in a situation of bullying, they do not have the power to move students to diff classes or different campuses. A child can go to a teacher all they want but even if a teacher is making it known to admin or district about it, they cannot go above their protocols without risking their own livelihood/job. And if you don't believe me when I say teachers are always the scapegoats because they are the ones "seen" as the person directly engaging with students, remember your comment and who you decided to blame first. It wasn't the district, it wasn't the admin, it was not the parent of the other child... it was the teacher who has zero power to make decisions on bullying other than separating them within the same classroom. Thankfully not all schools or admins are like the ones I guess yours is like, some people do respect teachers enough to put the bully in alternative or suspension even if the victim fights back in defense. Basically, everyone paints the teacher as the students worse enemy when in reality, many teachers are the ones closest to the students and willing to do what it takes to help them.

Good students tend to be passive and detached from conversation, sitting silent unless spoken to and being extremely agreeable - This makes them harder, if not impossible to connect with. @@takearriabrown7644 As a person who grew up around guns and lives in a place with more lax gun laws I want to offer an alternative perspective that isn't super combative like the above guy. In no particular order just addressing what they said in the video and the general sentiments:
      1. Rocks are a terrible idea, you should not be trying to fight back with a tool that won't incapacitate the shooter. That will get students killed standing around throwing stuff. I am no expert, but those who are have weighed in on this idea and are confident that's a bad idea.
      2. Guns being stolen isn't an issue if you keep your hangun in a holster on your person at all times, the same way anyone who conceal carrys would do.
      3. I don't think the suggestion is that teachers be REQUIRED to carry a gun, only that the option should be there if they take it upon themselves to take defensive shooting lessons and/or is comfortable with firearms to begin with.
      4. Particularly on University campuses I am 100% comfortable with people carrying for self defense. Everyone there is a bonafied adult. Where I live you don't even need a permit to conceal carry, and by and large I am comfortable with that because I know a lot of people that carry. So I can't comprehend a scenario where in college classes I would distrust my fellow students to the point of thinking they might shoot me out of nowhere just because they have a gun. I feel safer knowing gun owners are close by to help.
      5. The culture surrounding guns is pretty deadly serious. I have strong memories of being reprimanded by my dad for making mistakes at the range or in other situations. Gun owners take that responsibility very seriously. Many people I know trust other normal citizens to protect them in public more than they trust the police, and I think that is justifiable. Especially people in poorer areas with a bad history with police and/or places with slow police response times.

It gets so bad to the point where I'm terrified for life to come home with a B+. Everything sucks.

    Some students may be abusive because they are being abused. Some well behaved-high achieving students may be obedient because they are being heavily abused and have learned to fear as well as obey all forms of authority. Some students who fall somewhere in between- well behaved but not high achieving or high achieving but poorly behaved, may also experience extreme abuse and despair at home. All scenarios above are true and all are unacceptable. Anyone who is professionally involved in education should already be well aware of this truth. It is one thing for an educator to be naively oblivious to this reality, but it is a whole other breed of evil for a teacher to be purposely ignorant of the sociological damage history itself has inflicted on society and the home. Anyone who enters the school system, blind to these concepts and are not thoroughly educated about childhood trauma, has no place in education.

    If a teacher doesn't like us, it shows a lot more than they think it does.
    My science teacher didn't like our class and we could tell because she would let her other classes do fun activities and let them watch stuff like 'Mythbusters' if they finished early. We never got to do any of that stuff. She would spend our period out in the hall or in another class immediately after she gave us an assignment. One day, when we brought up an activity that the other classes got to do,asking if we could do it too, she said no. When we asked why, her reason was "because I don't like you guys". Like,we could already tell she didn't like us as much as the other classes,but she didn't have to say it out loud.
    TLDR: teacher showed that we were her least favorite class and in the end just ended up telling us that she didn't like us.

While not being in uniform is at first the students fault, my school recently added some rules that make it more difficult to remember the uniform. Example, were not allowed to wear hoodies or any jacket that isn't black or white. We also are required to wear our student ids around our necks. While the student ids are a smart thing since most of not all jobs require you to wear them, what makes it useless is that if you forget your id you get detention and have to pay for everything new one and the lanyard for your grade level. The uniforms don't make feeling like I belong there a thing honestly. It's more of a burden with the restrictions and most of the time they're uncomfortable to wear so you can't do your best. @@whiterosepoetryhouse970 That is not the uniform's fault, it is most likely the fault of that person who decided to set that ridiculous system about uniforms in your place. In most places they are not so strict about it and actually allow jackets and things like that. I don't know about other countries though, but in mine they actually reduce the prices of uniforms for students who have financial problems and also give out free ties or other accessories needed for the uniforms. (For government schools) Of course if all the schools with uniforms have this it would be more pleasant, unfortunately some schools can't because they are either low on budget or they do not care about the students' well being. I am sorry to hear your unfortunate experiences with uniforms but keep in mind that teachers, principals or the education system have to play their part to ensure that uniforms are enjoyable or at least decent.
